Explosion by remote_mine
Explosion.
Red yellow orange a curious mixture blossoming, blasting away the black of night.
The metal supports melted under the onslaught of heat. She could imagine the individual steel fibers give way as it dissipated as much of the energy as it could, before being overwhelmed.
Parts of the roof caved in as gravity's hold on the now-unsupported beams pulled it down, down. Down toward where it was built from, where it originated and where it would return to sometime – tonight.
A widening crack made her bite her lip as her eyes glimmered from the far too bright sight. A chunk of the wall suddenly fell off, crushing itself onto the debris-littered lawn. It was beautiful, the way that no two were ever the same. Each one had its own particular pattern, its own way of expressing itself before it was over. This one was special in how it bloomed outward before finally shooting up, petals of color searing the sky.
In this moment, she could watch and admire it. No one could see the raw beauty in this event, except her. There was no way to define how seductive it was to see it in all its glory, how it begged for attention, how it drew your thoughts until it was all you could think of.
The sounds reached her ears, delayed by the slower speed of sound in comparison to that of light. Ripping screeching and in utter agony, the building gave way as she watched intently. No words could describe how she felt as she witnessed the death of what had been a monumental building.
Within the space of five seconds, it was over. The explosion burnt itself out. Only charred sections remained. Smoke wafted in the air, debris lay on the ground. Over.
She left, her mission done.

A/N: First thing: yes, this wrote itself. I just had this random inspiration where I weaved an entire fic around the word "explosion". Er, if you're really curious as to what I was thinking when I was in the process of writing this, it was something along the lines of "what's it like to be on a mission and accomplish your goal?" and this is how it turned out. Yes, this is sort of vague so draw your own conclusions.
