The wrong girl
Chapter one
There's someone out there for everyone. Kami had made sure that it was that way and she hated it when people convinced themselves that there wasn't. How dare the humans defy her or think that she was incompetent? Of course she had made it that everyone had some form of companion! What she had no control over was when they were going to pass away. Ankhseram was the one in charge of death, while she promised life. He tore people apart while she gave them a second chance.
Or that's what he had been doing the last however many millenia it's been since they started doing this thing together. What she didn't account for was him suddenly taking an interest in meddling with humans. Death was his domain and he didn't like anyone tampering with it, hence why he cursed Zeref so violently, which bled into the life of Mavis as well. Kami knew that Ankhseram was pissed off with her technically wiping their memories and giving them a second chance at love. She couldn't help it, the two of them were just so cute together!
She had initially been expecting Ankhseram to visit her and rant and rave about how she was undermining him from doing what he's supposed to do and that they have laws that the humans are supposed to abide by and blah, blah, blah. Oh, he visited alright. But he didn't complain. In fact, he had a little smirk on his face. She was suspicious, but she wasn't too worried. He wasn't a prankster by nature, he was a serious god.
"Why Kami, you're looking so beautiful today."
Ankhseram never complimented her before. He never complimented anyone. He never smiled, only smirked. But right now, his smirk had widened into a grin as Kami couldn't help but run her hand through her hair, taking the compliment very well, even though she knew she shouldn't. She blushed lightly.
"Th-thank you, Ankhseram. What brings you here?"
He shrugged his shoulders carelessly, almost as if he had no reason, but he definitely did. He never really came to visit her, he hated all the light that she radiated. Right now though, he seemed pretty happy to be in the same room as her, which was definitely odd. She really couldn't understand what his angle was.
"Well, I saw that you gave Zeref and Mavis a second chance. Thought I should come up."
Okay, so he wasn't really going to beat about the bush, he was going to discuss it. Maybe he had improved? Maybe instead of yelling at her, he had come to talk like a normal being? No, that couldn't be it. He's had centuries to change his personality, he wouldn't just do it now. Zeref had been the first person that he had cursed in almost 500 years and Mavis had been the last about 150 years ago. She knew he would be upset that they were no longer in the palm of his hands.
"I thought they deserved it, you know? They are soulmates after all."
Okay, so they weren't soulmates originally. Zeref was like 250 years too old for Mavis and she had someone else in mind for him, but when she saw him tempting fate, she had to sever the ties between him and his original mate. It was a shame really, they would have had so much fun, but he got her killed when Ankhseram got angry with him trying to play god. As much as Kami loves humans and would vouch for them, she also despised them when they thought that they could cosplay as them. It angered her to no end, which is why she didn't mind it when Ankhseram dealt them a hand in karma.
"I see. That's cute. Anyway, I just came to see how you're doing. I guess I should be going now."
Kami's eyes widened in surprise when she watched him turn around to leave for his dark realm. "Wait! That's it? No lecture, no bouts of anger, no materialising things just to throw them around?"
He shook his head, the grin still lingering there. "Nope."
She eyed him with a huge amount of suspicion. She really didn't like where this was going, not one bit. He was toying with her and she hated it. He never toyed with her. He got angry, anger was his thing. He was a straightforward god, not one for riddles which she appreciated whenever they did talk. Right now though, she wasn't liking this. Currently, she doesn't know where she stands with him.
"I'm surprised you came all this way to the light realm just to see how I am."
He chuckled at her and she puffed out her cheeks, not liking the fact that he was laughing at her. "I just came to see if you had noticed something happening. Something important to you."
She jerked back in shock. "What?!"
He pointed at her oasis where she was able to watch all the humans from. She turned her head towards it, but was reluctant to take her eyes off of him just in case he attacked her. She wasn't sure if she could trust him when he was in this state. He was acting differently. She wondered if he was even Ankhseram.
Still, she took a look down and scanned her eyes all over the world to see what was so wrong with the humans. Wrong or amusing. For Ankhseram to be smiling like that, something funny must have happened, right? She started from Caelum and made her way across the globe, leaving Fiore for last. They had been through so much in such a short amount of time, she just didn't think that something stupid would be happening. They needed a break and she was giving it to them.
That was until she happened upon a scene that should NOT be happening. Not now, not in 400 years. Her head pinged up to where Ankhseram was, hearing him laughing out loud. If it had been over a different situation, she would have enjoyed such a sound. They had been fellow gods for as long as they could remember and not once had he ever laughed in that time. Not once. Not even a chuckle, so hearing him chuckle earlier was also eerie.
"Y-you! Did you put them up to this?! What have you done?!"
Ankhseram was wiping away tears from his eyes at this point. He was laughing way too hard for someone who had never laughed before. Or maybe he laughed when he was by himself in his own realm. Just because she hadn't seen him do so, doesn't mean that he didn't. But she still wanted to believe that he didn't.
"I just wanted to know what was so fun with you and your little soulmates project, so I decided to give you a helping hand."
Kami saw red, she really did. "But that's MY job! Everyone's already been assigned one from birth, you can't just change things around!"
Ankhseram feigned an innocent look. "Oh, I can't? I didn't realise...yeah, maybe it's not for me. I guess I'll be going now."
He was gone in a flash of darkness, leaving Kami to practically scream in distress at the mess that he had caused. The noise of the 'couple' in her oasis brought her back to reality. Kami stared at the scene in front of her in shock. No way had Natsu just mated with the wrong girl, no flipping way.
In all honesty, he hadn't meant to bite her like that. He had wanted her to shut the hell up about Gray and how awesome he is. At first, he asked her politely to shut the fuck up, but Juvia was just as stubborn as he was when it mattered most. Gray mattered most and she didn't like it when she was being silenced on her love confessions to him. The dude wasn't even with them, he was on a solo job!
When he asked her to shut up, she said bite me. Stupidly enough, he did. He actually bit her. On her neck. With his magic in his teeth. He was only supposed to do that when he was mating with someone and Juvia sure as hell wasn't going to be his mate. Why would he want her to be? She wouldn't shut up about his rival. Honestly, that was probably the reason why he even did it in the first place. There was a voice nagging him in his head to do it and to ruin her day. He gave into that voice, but it fucked him over too.
Juvia was glaring at him when he pulled back. Still, he was dead sure he had heard a light moan pass through her lips when he had latched onto her neck. He had to admit it, she tasted really good. Like he could eat her.
Still, there was no time to think about how delicious she had tasted, his eyes were wide with fear. He had just marked her and he didn't even mean to. He was pretty sure she wasn't his mate and now he had probably disrupted the balance in the world. He was horrified with his actions and he really didn't know how to tell her about what he had just done.
"What was that for?!" She had shrieked and rightfully so. What was that for? He's fucked it. If he told Juvia, she would kill him. If he didn't say anything, Gajeel would smell her, tell her and then he would kill him. It wasn't really looking too good for him, he was going to die regardless of the scenario.
"Y-you told me to bite you, so I did!" He rebutted. He couldn't take the full blame here. Lucy had said something similar and he had done the same thing, so she should have known what he was like. The only difference is that he had never bitten Lucy with his magic in his teeth. He really fucked up here, but there was a voice egging him to do it.
"Yeah, metaphorically! That actually really hurt, Natsu-san!"
She continually rubbed at the bite mark in order to soothe herself and Natsu sighed, feeling guilty. He knew how to make her feel better, although it would be best if he didn't touch it at all. He would only be strengthening the bond that shouldn't have taken place. "Let me."
Juvia gave him a sceptical look and rightfully so. He had literally just bitten her and now he wants to make her feel better? That was just dumb. Still, she felt inclined to let him help her out. She sighed and removed her hand, angling her neck where he could reach it.
Natsu gulped, a primal wave of hunger washing over him when he saw his mating mark decorating her neck. Just knowing that Juvia was his was wrong, yet oddly satisfying. He loved the look of it on her neck, paraded around to let others know that she belongs to him. He had to try his best to hold back the growl that was threatening to escape his lips.
He reached out with a shaky hand, his thumb caressing the mating mark. Immediately, Juvia melted like butter under his touch. It was amazing to watch as she tried to hold back her moans from the way he was touching her. Her eyes rolled to the back of her head from the pleasure that he was giving her and she knew this wasn't normal.
"Natsu-san, your fingers are like magic. Are you a secret masseuse?"
Natsu chuckled and shook his head. "Can't say I am. You seem to really enjoy this though."
"Hmm," was all she could hum. Natsu knew he was going to have to stop soon before this played out in a very dangerous way. He just gave her a mating mark and the next thing he needed to do was complete the mating by sleeping with her. He knew that it was wrong, but he really wanted her.
Reluctantly, he moved his hand away from her. Juvia's eyes snapped open as he saw the disappointment settling in. Before he could even say anything, she whined, almost trying to reach out for his hand.
"Why did you stop?"
Natsu almost blushed. "O-oh, I thought everything was okay now. You looked like you were fine."
Juvia pouted. "Yes and it felt really good. Juvia thought that Natsu-san would continue..."
Natsu sat closer, listening as her steady heart beat started racing a little faster than usual. "What are you saying? You want me to touch you? I thought that was only reserved for Gray?"
He lowered his voice and watched as her eyes widened in surprise. She clearly didn't mean what she was saying and Natsu wanted to stop this madness before it went any further. Natsu was only inclined to have her because he bit her. If it wasn't for that, he wouldn't even look in her direction, right? He didn't deserve her, not when she liked Gray.
"Y-you're right, only Gray-sama can touch me like this. Natsu-san will have to excuse Juvia, she needs to go."
She slid off her chair and made a beeline for the door. Her head was down and Natsu wanted to reach out and stop her, but he couldn't bring himself to do so. He needed to tell her as soon as possible, but he wanted to tell her in private. He didn't want her to overreact and then get everyone else involved. Plus, he wanted to find out if there was a way she could reject the mate mark.
The guild door opened and Natsu watched in horror as Gajeel came in with Levy. The iron dragon slayer's eyes immediately shot over to Juvia's in confusion before his crimson reds looked up in the direction of Natsu, a hard look on his face.
Juvia looked surprised but happy to see her friends suddenly appear in front of her that she forgot that she was supposed to be getting away from Natsu. "Gajeel-kun, Levy-chan! How was your job?"
"Oh Juvia-chan it was so good! Are you going somewhere, maybe I can tell you?"
"That would be good! Juvia wasn't going to go anywhere of importance."
Natsu winced when Juvia basically voiced she just wanted to get away from him. Well, he's not stupid. He knew that she was running away from him, but it still hurt to hear it. Gajeel left the two girls and stormed over towards him and Natsu stood up quickly, backing away from him. Although he loved a good fight, there were some scenarios you just had to run away from. Gajeel was overprotective of Juvia because he saw her as his sister. Hurting a dragon slayer's family was a big no no.
"Now I know this looks bad-"
"LOOKS bad?! You fucking bit her, you brain dead bastard!"
Gajeel was whispering harshly and Natsu actually flinched at the name he was called. Okay, rude, but also deserved.
"I know, I know! Which is why I need your help man! How the hell do I end it? Is there even a way to end it before it starts? I can't ruin her life man, she doesn't even know! I didn't get the chance to tell her about it."
Gajeel took a deep breath as Natsu looked up at him hopelessly. The only thing Natsu ever learned about was his dragon slayer magic. He learnt about the basics of mating, but Igneel deemed him too immature to really learn about it properly. He had to look to Gajeel for help as he was a little bit older than him and already received a lot of guidance about the way they mate.
"You have a 5 day period to try and not jump each other's bones. If you sleep with her and she bites you during this time, you're mated for good. If you can manage to hold off, then it's all fine. The bite you gave her will fade away. If you sleep with her and she doesn't bite you, you contaminate the mating process and then you'll have 10 days to try and let the mark fade away."
Natsu would have sighed in frustration if it wasn't fault. Unfortunately, this is all on him so he couldn't say anything about it. All he could do was nod his head and listen carefully to what he was being told.
"But ya hafta tell her."
Natsu really didn't want to. It would make it really easy to leave her for the five days so that they don't complete the process, right? "What she doesn't know won't kill her, right? I mean, as long as we don't cross paths for the next 5 days or something, we should be good and then that will be it! Almost like it never happened!"
Gajeel shook his head with a frown. "No, ya gotta tell her. As much as yer right, it ain't nice not tellin' her. It will be her decision from there. Besides, she's gonna start acting fuckin' weird and that all leads back down to ya."
Natsu almost gripped at his hair in frustration. "But I don't even like her like that! I don't want her to be my mate! I don't want this stupid mate mark to cloud my judgement and make me do something I'm gonna regret!"
Gajeel's eyes flashed. "Well it's all yer fuckin' fault anyway, so stop bitchin'! Besides, how did ya come to fucking bite her? I swear, I better not hear some horny shit."
Natsu blushed and shook his head. "No! She kept talking in my ear about how fucking great the ice princess is and when I told her to shut the fuck up, she said 'bite me'..."
Gajeel gave Natsu a look of disbelief. "And you DID?! Actually, why am I acting surprised, of course you did. To be fuckin' honest, I mighta done the same thing if Levy had said that ta me... But yeah, she does get really annoyin' if you don't tell her to shut about that prick. Fuckin' nuisance. Surprisingly, I ain't all that mad at how this situation came to be. But ya gotta tell her."
Natsu groaned in annoyance before nodding in agreement. "And I will. Tomorrow."
Gajeel just sighed and shrugged. "Fine. Not any of my business, but don't let her find out from someone else. She might get pissed off."
"Yeah, yeah," he rolled his eyes.
~x~
Juvia quietly swore to herself when she got home. Both her and Levy had both absentmindedly walked all the way back to Fairy Hills as she explained their job. She found herself cackling a lot more than she usually would at Gajeel's expense at a lot of things that took place during the job.
They had both parted ways when they got to their flats and Juvia immediately made way to her bathroom. She needed to see just how bad the mark was.
Seeing it, her eyes went wide when she realised just how angry and red it was. "Juvia is going to kill him," she mumbled to herself. How was she supposed to hide such an ugly mark from everyone? How was she supposed to hide it from Gray?
"Who cares about what Gray thinks?"
Juvia froze at her thoughts. Did she really just say that to herself? She couldn't believe it, just why wouldn't she care that much about Gray, she always cares about Gray! She shook her head, rubbing some oil over it, trying to calm it down. Maybe she was just really annoyed with this bite mark that she had and that was making her angry. That could be the only explanation.
She sighed and tried to rummage around for some makeup that she might be able to use to hide it. She found some concealer and tried her best to cover the angry bite that was on her neck. She ran her finger over it gently and couldn't help herself as she moaned. She couldn't help but remember how good Natsu's fingers felt on the bite and she wondered just how good his fingers would feel elsewhere.
Her eyes pinged open and a blush swarmed her face when she realised what she had just thought to herself. Usually, the only person who could get her to think of such a thing was Gray, but the thought of Gray even touching her seemed to disgust her. Her heart rate quickened, wondering about what Natsu had done, because this definitely had to be his fault. Things started to feel weird after he had bitten her.
She frowned before squinting at the bite in the mirror. "Wait...Natsu is a dragon slayer and he bit me..."
There had to be something that Gajeel told her about a dragon slayer's bite, but she couldn't remember it. Mostly because she was staring at Gray take his shirt off when she was being told about it. She had asked him about how things were going with Levy and he told her he bit her, but she stopped listening the moment Team Natsu had come back from their job, thus making Gajeel huff and leave her to her own devices. She regretted that now, because not only did she not have information on a dragon slayer's bite, she had actually rudely ignored her best friend. The guilt crippled her at how she treated Gajeel, almost as if he was nothing while Gray was the apple of her eye. A guy who hadn't even really given her a straight answer as to whether or not her wants her or not.
Juvia sighed and moved away from her bathroom, feeling bad for herself. There were a few things she had started thinking about lately that she had never thought about before. She had come to realise that she had taken her friends for granted and she put a lot more energy into a guy who didn't want her. Well no more! Why should she waste her time with him? It was time to start thinking about her and her friends.
"And also how hot Natsu is."
She groaned as she sunk onto her sofa. These thoughts were getting too much now.
So, how was that for a first chapter? It's a lot shorter than I usually write, but hopefully it was a good enough start. I'm a sucker for soul mate stories, so here's another one.
Please don't forget to rate or hate, flames or floods! You guys knows I wouldn't still be writing if it weren't for you reading and reviewing!
