I was re-watching a few episodes the other day and one of them was White Knuckle. I started wondering what would have happened if things had turned out differently. This is what I came up with. Hope you enjoy!
Despite all the evidence that pointed to him being the killer, there was something about Billy that made the entire team believe that he was innocent. The only problem was, they had no further leads on any other suspects and their 48 hours was running out. If they couldn't prove that Billy didn't kill Isla by the time their time was up, they would have to arrest him.
Everyone was digging deep, leaving no stone left unturned, but kept coming up empty handed. They were down to their final 5 hours with zero potential suspects other than Billy. That is until Jay made a possible connection with a second suspect. He posted Tim Rollins photo on the board and explained the connection between him and Isla. Suddenly, all the evidence was pointing to Rollins.
Kevin, Kim, and Adam were sent to bring him in. They pulled up, noticing his blue sedan parked out on the street. Kim went right over to the car, inspecting it while Kevin and Adam started to approach the house.
They stopped and waited for Kim who had just radioed Jay and Haley who were checking on a second possible location for Rollins on the other side of town that they believed Rollins was at this location. They were gonna figure out their game plan while waiting for the other two officers when Kevin noticed their suspect walking out of the house. Adam and Kevin instantly started to approach, causing Rollins to take off running. The three officers immediately began chasing him. Adam went straight for Rollins, Kevin went around back, and Kim followed Adam until they hit a side street where Kim broke off to try to cut Rollins off.
Adam did a decent job of keeping up with Rollins while doing his best to call for back-up. Growing frustrated with the lack of containment, Adam refused to let Rollins go. He was slowed down a little while crossing a busy road, allowing Rollins to get further away from him, but had seen where he was heading. He knew he shouldn't have taken the corner without back-up but stopping now would be a sure-fire way to lose Rollins for good.
Kim and Kevin were each a block or two away when they heard multiple gunshots go off, causing them both to run faster. Out of the four shots they heard, only the last shot sounded like it came from Adam's gun. They both feared the worst but were hopeful that the last shot came from Adam.
Kim rounded the corner calling for Adam. Her heart sunk when she found both Rollins and Adam lying motionless on the ground, prompting her to immediately call for two ambo's. Her gut reaction was to run straight to Adam, but she knew she had to make sure the scene was safe. She went to Rollins first, kicking away his gun and checking for a pulse. Adam had hit him almost square in the chest, killing him instantly.
Once she realized Rollins was dead, she quickly made her way over to Adam. A pool of blood had started to form around him which worried Kim. He was unresponsive to her calling his name, but when she carefully rolled him to his back to try to find where he was hit, he started to come-to a little.
"Easy Adam, try to move. I gotta see where you're hit." Kim said as she quickly started to undo his vest.
Adam was too incoherent to listen to Kim. He kept trying to sit up, feeling like he was choking on his own blood. Every time he tried to sit up, Kim would push him right back down. "Stop moving Adam, I gotta get your vest off."
Adam wanted to tell her he had to sit up otherwise he was going to choke to death on his own blood, but he couldn't catch his breath enough to get the words out. Each breath was becoming harder and harder until he hit a coughing fit, coughing up blood. Kim's worry sky-rocketed at the site and she prayed the ambulance would get there quick.
"Ruz, where you at!?" Kevin rounded the corner seeing Kim's blood covered hands and Adam lying on the ground. "No, no, no! What the hell happened? Where's he hit?" He ran straight to his two best friends.
"There's blood everywhere, it's hard to tell. Looks like one in the chest and one in the abdomen. The vest caught the third one. Help me hold pressure here." Kim moved her hands away to let Kevin try to control the bleeding while she focused on keeping a fading Adam awake.
She wiped her bloody hands on her pants before lightly tapping his cheek. "Come on Adam, stay with me." She pleaded. Adam slowly opened his eyes, looking Kim straight in the eyes before glancing over to Kevin and starting to close them again." Kim's heart was shattering. She could tell Adam was struggling to breathe and that the blood loss was getting to him, but she knew if she let him fall asleep, there was a chance he would never wake up.
She could hear the sirens getting louder and knew the ambulance was close. "Come on baby, please. I need you to fight. Makayla needs you to fight." She knew Makayla was Adam's soft spot. That girl had him wrapped around her finger since she came into the picture. She would use that soft spot to her advantage as long as she could as long as it kept Adam awake.
Adams eyes flew open at the mention of Makayla's name and he scrunched his eyes shut, fighting back tears. He and Makayla grew very close, very quick, and he hated the idea of her losing another parent figure. He hoped she knew how much he loved her. He wanted to tell Kim to make sure Makayla knew, just in case, but every time he opened his mouth to try to tell her, he would start coughing again.
Kevin would chime in occasionally, and between the two of them, they managed to keep Adam's eyes open until the ambulance arrived.
The medics arrived quickly and wasted no time getting to work on Adam. They rattled off all kinds of medical terminology and numbers that sounded like a foreign language to Kim and Kevin and before they knew it Adam was being loaded into the ambulance. Both officers stood there frozen. Everything seemed like such a blur. The medics said they were headed to Med and that they could meet them there. They were gone before Kim could even think about riding in the ambulance with them.
Kevin and Kim remained motionless for a few seconds after the ambulance was no longer visible. They could still hear the sirens screaming as the ambulance raced towards med, but both were still in such a state of disbelief and shock, that they didn't know what to do next.
Jay and Hailey had arrived a few seconds before the ambulance left, but Kim and Kevin were so focused on Adam that they didn't even notice. Hailey approached Kim, putting a hand on her shoulder. Kim jumped and turned around, reaching for her gun before realizing it was only Hailey. She doesn't know what it was about seeing Hailey, but Kim just broke down in tears.
Hailey quickly wrapped Kim in a hug, knowing she needed to let the tears out. Her and Jay never got the chance to get a good look at Adam before the ambulance took off but judging by the amount of blood on the ground and Kim and Kevin's hands, it wasn't good. Hailey broke out of the hug, helping Kim wipe tears away. "Come on, you guys can ride to med with us." Jay said before the four officers got in the car and sped off to med.
