The Beginning

Chapter 1

I stood at the edge of the cliff looking down at the party going on with the others. I was standing between Pogue and Caleb. Tyler was on the other side of Caleb. Reid was running his usual late self. We were the Salem Five as they called us around town. I spun around when I heard crunching of rocks. I smiled at Reid.

"Where have you been? I stopped by to give you a lift." Tyler said. Reid picked me up and hugged me tightly.

"Had things to do. How's the party?" He said stepping us closer to the edge.

"Don't know, just got here." Pogue said. Reid let me go and stepped even further to the edge.

"Well hell boys and Bells. Let's drop in." He said kicking some rocks off. I felt him use then he fell.

"Shit yeah!" Tyler said following his lead. But he fell backwards.

"Tyler!" Caleb yelled. I giggled and looked at Pogue.

"Come on, Caleb. It's not like it's going to kill us... Yet." He said smirking. He held out his hand to me and I took it. I waved to my brother then Pogue and I fell. I squealed happily when we landed.

"God, I love doing that!" I said laughing. He laughed and smiled. Caleb landed behind us. I smiled at him, which caused him to shake his head. We started walking to the party.

"Yo, Caleb!" Harry called out. Caleb waved and I rolled my eyes.

"And Mr. Popular goes to you this year, big brother." I said smirking at him. He elbowed me in the ribs. I glared at him as I rubbed the now sore spot.

"Hey Kate." He said as we approached my best friend. She was dating Pogue.

"Caleb. Hmm, you're late." Kate said kissing Pogue. I noticed a tiny blonde standing beside Kate.

"Yeah, I had a thing with the family. Who's this?" He said nodding to the blonde.

"My new roommate, Sarah. Sarah this is Pogue Parry, Tyler Simms, Reid." Kate started but Reid cut her off.

"Garwin. Reid Garwin. Good evening." He said smiling. I rolled my eyes at him and hugged Kate.

"Good evening." She said playing along with him.

"You know Sarah's my grandmothers name. You kind of remind me of her." He started. Then Caleb cut him off.

"Caleb Danvers, and my sister Bella. And you don't remind me of our grandmother in any sort of way." He said shaking her hand. She laughed at him.

"Good. Sarah. Nice to meet you, Bella." She said smiling. I just waved at her. Something was off about her that I didn't like.

"Hey Caleb." Kira Snyder said walking up to my brother.

"Kira." He said sighing.

"How was your Summer?" She asked him. He hummed and looked at Sarah. She followed his line of sight and turned to Sarah.

"I'm Kira." She said introducing herself.

"Sarah." She said nodding.

"Right from the public. Tell me. How does one get into Spenser transferring from the public?" She sneered at her.

"Probably book smart, instead of sleeping with teachers like you, Kira." I told her. She turned to me with a glare.

"Give it a rest." Caleb told us. Aaron walked up then with Spence.

"Why don't you give it a rest?" He snapped back. Caleb sighed and shook his head.

"I don't want any trouble, Aaron." He said annoyed.

"I'm sure you don't." Aaron said.

"These posers make me want to puke." Spence scoffed.

"Is that right?" Reid asked smartly. Caleb pushed him back from starting a fight with Aaron. Aaron turned to me and looked me over with a smirk.

"You owe Kira an apology, baby girl." He said licking his lips. I scoffed and crossed my arms. Caleb stepped forward between us.

"No. I think Kira owes Sarah the apology." He stated. Aaron nodded then shoved Caleb hard. Some random stepped in between them to break them up.

"You were being kind of bitchy. Both of you were." The guy said looking between Kira and me. I felt someone use and Spence is puking all over Aaron and Kira. I jumped back into Tyler.

"Hey guys! Dylan just called! Said he just saw three cop cars headed this way on Old Dell Road." Ricky called over the system. I groaned.

"We just got here." I groaned. Caleb pushed me as we headed to Tyler's Hummer. (If you've seen the movie, I won't go into the woods walking or the cliff jumping details.) Caleb and I drove Pogue back to our house in Caleb's car. We said our goodbyes to him and headed inside.

"You two are home early." We heard our mother comment from the Den. I sighed and looked at Caleb.

"Go on to bed, I'll handle our mother." He said kissing my head. I nodded and walked up to my room. I showered, dressed in an old t-shirt and got in bed. I fell asleep instantly. I was dreaming, I thought. It felt like a dream. It was blurry but I could see a kid being killed. I have seen him. From Reid and Tyler's floor. I felt the burning in my hands and body. The pain, he felt.

"No!" I screamed as I shot up in bed. I looked around and I was alone. I looked at the clock. It was 2 in the morning. I sighed and ran a hand through my hair. I got out of bed and headed to my door. Once I opened it, I screamed again, stumbled back and hit the floor. It was a darkling. He reached out then disappeared.

"Bella!" I heard Caleb yell. He came to my door and ran in beside me.

"Bella? Hey. What happened? What's wrong?" He asked.

"I saw. I saw. I felt power." I said shakily. He looked at the door then back at me.

"Come on. Let's go back to bed." He said softly. I looked back at the door. We got up and he helped me to the bed.

"Could it have been one of the guys?" I asked him.

"We'll talk to Reid tomorrow. He's usually the one who uses. Get some rest." He said kissing my head. I nodded and he walked out. I couldn't go back to sleep after that. The next morning, I dressed for a day in town and for Nicky's. Then I walked down the stairs to the kitchen. I grabbed ahold of the staircase as I felt a hard hit of dizziness.

"Bells?" Caleb asked coming up behind me.

"I'm okay. Really." I said nodding. We ate breakfast and we headed into town separately. I was in the middle of the bookstore when I felt the power being used again. I gasped and dropped all my books. Flashes of Caleb and a log truck crashing came across my mind. My body was hurting. I dumped my bag out on the floor searching for my phone. Once I found it, I called Caleb.

"Hey, Bella." He said answering the phone.

"Hey! That's all I get is a hey! What the hell just happened!" I snapped angrily.

"What are you talking? You saw it? You saw the wreck?" He asked concerned.

"Yes! Caleb! I saw and felt it! What the hell happened?" I snapped.

"I saw a darkling. In the form of that dead kid that they found at The Dells." He said sniffling. I tensed up. That's who I saw last night. That's who I saw in my dreams.

"Caleb." I said uneasily.

"Look we'll talk to Reid and Tyler tonight. We're all going to Nicky's. Meet us there and we'll talk tonight, okay?" He said sighing. I rubbed my face with my hand and nodded.

"Yeah. Yeah, I'll meet you there." I said hanging up. I picked up everything and placed it back in my bag. I grabbed my books, checked out and headed to my car. I got in and sat there for a moment. What was happening to my family? To me? Why are darkling's appearing all of a sudden?
