"Artemis?" Butler walked into his master's room to find the young man on his computer staring intently at the screen.
"Could you hold on Butler, I'm in the middle of a chess game with a player who is either a genius or insane," Artemis could not believe he nearly fell for the trap this internet player had set; He himself almost caught it a move to late. He blinked, perhaps this was going to take longer then he thought…Artemis quickly typed a message to his newest victim…though at the moment he was not as sure as he usually was… "Yes?"
"Theirs a strange phone call for you, he says his name is Mulch Diggums. He claims to have a proposition for you. Should I put him through?"
Artemis sighed, and rubbed his temples, "No, but get his number."
Not for the first time Artemis wished his parents where out of the country. For a while, anyway.
Butler bowed in response and left the room. Artemis turned back to his computer. He moved his rook three spaces forward, and waited. Then something happened that Artemis had never anticipated, the player moved his bishop diagonally two squares and trapped Artemis. No matter what he played now, he would not win. Artemis stared at the screen in disbelief. He could not lose…then he saw an opportunity, he would not win but he certainly would not lose either. Artemis moved his knight and a little white box on the screen bore the word STALEMATE.
Artemis was still appalled, he marred his perfect record, however he gained a worthy adversary. Artemis smiled grimly, a fair trade. Artemis would love to know more about this new chess master, whose username was Bringer_Of_Challenge986.
Artemis knew better then to try and find anything about her/him through chat, he/she could lie her/his little head off with him being none the wiser, and he had more respect for her then to hack into her computer. This would be one mystery that will be left unsolved. Everyone could use a little mystery occasionally.
His own username was Seer_Of_Destruction87. He would have chosen something less dramatic, but alas, his first choice was already taken, by this newfound opponent nonetheless. Ironic. Artemis frowned; he/she already had beaten him once, to his name! Yet, by how much. Artemis whirled back to his computer. Five seconds…five seconds, that's how much. Five seconds.
A little white box again popped up on the screen and it bore the legend; PLAY AGAIN?
He typed back, "How are you at Chinese Checkers?"
