Before we start with the next chapter, there are a few things that I need to discuss about.
Firstly… Well, guess I sort of jinxed myself after the last chapter. So as it turns out, the people in Blizzard just announced that they wouldn't be doing anymore Overwatch Beta in the foreseeable future. Course the reason behind it has to do with the new game coming out in October, since we are inching closer to the release date at the time of writing this. That being said, I assume that they did enough testing the product as it is. I mean, it is a beta right? They wanted to make sure everything is working properly before the release of the game. And if there are some things that isn't right, they can always update them as maintenance repair. But hey, no game is perfect. I mean, just look at Cyberpunk 2077 and they had to do that huge update to make certain repairs within the game itself. I mean, I never seen much of it since I have it on Xbox One. I guess it was a Playstation issue or a PC. Whatever the case, still can't wait for the sequel to come out. Still wondering if it's going to be the same as before, more multi player matches and special events. Or maybe they should have an actual story campaign just like Titanfall 2 or the Plants vs. Zombies sequel. Guess we have to wait and see.
Another thing I want to mention at the time of writing this, is that beginning at the end of August, they will permanently ending Overwatch loot box payments. Now I never really care about to Lootbox monopoly. Hell, in the early years, I bought the most expensive ones to get more lootboxes just for a few rare occasions. But I find it to be nothing but cosmetics in a way that doesn't improve the gameplay. It seems rather tedious. Still, I am trying to give all the Overwatch characters all black in a way, and only a certain half have to dark color and not others. But with the loot box payments ending on the 31st of August, wonder what the Overwatch 2 loot boxes are going to be like. Perhaps more then cosmetics I would assume. Let's hope something interesting will happen with the sequel coming out soon.
Thirdly, there is a new character they announced at the time I was writing this. Her name is Kiriko and she is what I have reason to believe is a healing shrine maiden with a history of Fox spirits. Not little is known about her, but she is sort of like Mercy or Moira that focus mostly on damage while using little in inflict damage at all. Other then the spirit tapes to heal and knives to throw, she also has a fox, which I have reason to believe to be her ultimate that gives the team a permanent health gain temporarily. It is the strangest of heroes, but hey, we do have another female to add into this story. Just going to need to figure out who is going to be the person to turn into her. Giving she looks like she's from Japan, I do have some idea on what to do. But you need to wait to find out.
The last thing I need to discuss about is the membership with Overwatch. See, with Overwatch 2 coming out, a lot of people fear that it will ultimately reset all progress from the first game and people will have to do the whole progression binge all over again. But recent news suggests that you can transfer all that progress from the first to the second so you won't loose any ranks or cosmetics. I haven't checked on it yet and you need to follow some simple instructions to do so. I'll get on the horn when I have a chance playing the first game for the story. And speaking of which, it's time to proceed with this chapter.
Now to look back at the last chapter, it does look dismal at best. I only got almost a hundred views and no reviews. I mean, it is what it is. Story starts off strong and begins to shiver downwards to nothing. I've seen it a lot over the years. Still, the more chapters I released, the more people will read it. Though I can't blame them since one chapter has Widowmaker masturbating with a dildo and the next having girl and girl action with Pharah and Ana. So yeah, I understand the reasons people would be uncomfortable. For now, no other sex or other self-pleasuring chapters, so far. But you all have to wait and see in the future chapters. Speaking of which, let's go to the next chapter and yeah, no sex scenes on this one. It's more of a serious matter.
On this chapter, we go to a recruit that doesn't like the fight. All he wanted to do is heal. Will his hobby get him what he wanted? You need to read to find out for yourself.
Chapter Notes
This chapter is going to be a bit different. As you know, there is a certain healer that is famous for her sole role. And I feel like the person I recruit will be a fitting match for her. Not going to say who it is and what the occupation is. You need to read it all to see what I'm referring to. In fact, the reveal is happening right about now.
Disclaimer: I don't own Overwatch
6th Recruit: Dr. Jeffery Downer
In a Hospital not far from the town, many doctors, nurses, and physicians were minding their own business, helping patients and performing surgeries to keep them healthy and happy. One doctor was working the most as he handles those that are the most serious of injuries and illness. Walking down the long hallway, a burly man in his fifties was heading to a certain room where a special patient was waiting. This doctor's name is Jeffery Downer and he's the top medical expert in the field. At 55 years of age, he was a veteran and his body was showing it. His muscles were just fat with a round gut, but he was as healthy as a normal person. His face was rough and rugged with a gray beard and a white hair that has a bald dome at the top. Wearing a doctor's uniform with a stethoscope around his neck and a clipboard in his hands, he was heading to a certain room to check on a certain patient. Seeing the door, he approached it and put his hand on the knob. With a sigh, Jeffery turned the knock and opened the door, calling out a certain name.
"Kelly Richardson? Are you up?"
He entered the room and waited for a response from his patient. Upon entering, he looked to the sight that was bestowed upon him. In this single bedroom, there is a hospital bed that is filled with multiple flowers and balloons saying 'Get Well'. On that bed, there is a young girl of eight with a bald head and has an IV drip in her arm that has her treatment that was nearly empty. She was reading a book with more books next to her bed, considering there's nothing much for her to do other than that and watching TV. The girl's name is Kelly Richardson and she has a rare disease that was plaguing her system.
See, Kelly is suffering a rare disease known and Neuroblastoma. It is known as a rare childhood cancer that affects the sympathetic nervous system. The cancer is located around the adrenal glands, which sit on top of the kidneys and have cells similar to the nerve cells. This in turn leads to strange mutations and in some cells of the body and certain side effects. For Kelly, she has those types of side effects.
While the disease was diagnosed for kids below five years of age, Kelly's condition was diagnosed passed that. Her symptoms include swellings in the belly, stomach pains, headaches, and changes to the eyes. And while the disease is treatable, Kelly's case is more severe then others. This includes pain in the bones, making her arms and legs weak and can make her weak. That is why she is tied to the bed, cause she is weak in getting up and can do little movements with her body. She hopes that one day, she might be able to recover and be with her family and friends instead of them visiting the hospital to see her. But it would be impossible as her condition was making it difficult for her to move.
Kelly heard the doctor's voice and laid her book down, turning to see him standing there. "Oh… Good evening Dr. Downer. Are you here to give me a check up?"
Downer looked to her with an assuring smile and answered with, "You could say that. However it's more of a visit then a check up. May I come in?"
Kelly looked to him with a smile and said, "Sure thing. Come in."
With that, the doctor entered the room and closed the door. Kelly then put her book down and started to feel sore from the condition she was in. Once approaching her bed, he took the clipboard and checked on the progress she made. Looking at the report, he smiled and said, "Hmm… Interesting… You seem to be making some steady progress. Your blood levels are close to normal and the bone marrow seems to be stable. You are recovering quite nicely."
Kelly sighed and said to Downer, "Not much, though. The headaches are acting up more and my body is still aching. I mean, it takes me five minutes to sit up from my bed without feeling my back getting soar."
The doctor looked to her and told her, "That's just the after effects. When you have something as rare as Neuroblastoman at your age, you tend to have these 'growing' pains when your bones get weaken. Give it some time and perhaps you will fully recover."
Kelly heard that and turned away at the thought of it. "But that's the problem! I don't know when I will recover!" she said with disappointment, "I've been in this hospital for months and the progress was slow and steady. Meanwhile, I've missed out on a lot of things to do with my family and friends. Places to go, things to do, and occasions I should've been a part of. I'm missing out on all of it! Sometimes, I just want to get out of this bed and leave this hospital so I can have fun. I want out of this place!"
She pounded the bed in frustration, only to feel the pain returning. She clutched her head with both hands and keeled over when the stomach cramps arrived, feeling all sorts of agony across her body. Dr. Downer could see her in anguish and knew that she was rushing into her recovery. Placing the clipboard back to the front of the bed, he went to the side and sat next to her. Patting her on the shoulder, he told her, "There, there, Kelly. You shouldn't be too rough. I know that you want to leave this place and be with your family and friends. But you need to be a bit patient, just a bit longer. Your condition would make it impossible for you to be up and about. One sudden movement would lead you to collapse or worse. I promise that the moment you feel better, I will take you out of the hospital and let you enjoy the fresh air."
Kelly was breathing heavily as she was still in brief aguishable pain. But she had all the strength to looked to him in the eyes and said with a quiet voice, "You promise…?"
The doctor gave a smile smirk and told her straight away, "I promise…"
The patient looked to him and gave a small smile for that promise. She soon used her strength to stretch her arm and placed her hand on his that was resting on the shoulder. The two gave a brief chuckle as they were both sharing that moment. However, that moment stopped when the door opened and a female nurse came walking in with an extra IV drip filled with treatment medicine Kelly needs. Seeing the two, she cleared her throat just to get their attention. That worked as the two looked to see her standing there and looking to be a bit annoyed.
"I'm sorry for interrupting, but it's time for Kelly's treatment before going to bed."
Downer heard her and nodded to understand the procedure. "But of course. I'll be on my way." he said as he got off the bed. Turning to her, he told her, "Goodnight, Kelly. I hope you get better first thing in the morning."
Kelly looked to him and sighed for a response. "Yeah… Sure… I just hope I would feel better tomorrow."
With that, the doctor soon got left Kelly's side and approached the door while the nurse was heading to her side. As they cross paths, the nurse stopped him and whispered something in his ear.
"A bit of advice, don't give our patients false hope. It's a waste of time and energy."
Downer looked to her and responded in her own ear, "It's not false hope, nurse. I was only keeping her comfortable due to her condition. After all, she will be recovering once the treatment is finished."
The nurse sighed and said, "I'm not so sure about that. Based on the frequent pains, I fear there is no way for her to recover by this rare disease."
The doctor sighed and knew that she was right. After all, the Neuroblastoman disease is very rare for kids past five. And while treatment is the only way in handling such and incurable virus, it won't be enough as it will leave Kelly immobile with no way to even stand up. Hell, some say that she could be lucky to leave in a wheel chair once fully recovered. But Downer won't give up as he needed to find a way in making Kelly feel better, if not cured.
Looking to the nurse, he whispered, "I'm not going to give up on her. I made a promise."
The nurse looked to him and reminded him of the last couple of doctors.
"Funny… That's what the other doctors said, and all of them gave up on her. What makes you think that you can accomplish the impossible."
She soon walked away from him and approached Kelly's side to switch her drip. Looking to Kelly going back to her book, he gave a sternful look and said in his ruff voice.
"I'll try to save her… Even if it means working day and night to do so."
He soon left the room and headed to his office, looking for a way to save his patient.
A few hours later, it was late at night as Downer was in his office, trying to contact connections to miracle drugs and treatment. It was already two in the morning as he had his coffee on hand to keep himself awake. Call after call, he couldn't get what he wanted as he was on his tenth contact that night.
"Hello? Is this Moderna's Disease Division?" he asked on the phone. "Hi. This is Dr. Jeffery Downer. I'm calling in regards of your new treatment. You know, the one about curing the Neuroblastoman disease from a kids body between the ages of five and ten." … "Yes, that one. See, I have a patient that has that disease and is in need of some desperate treatment. I was hoping that…"
He paused when he listened to the other end. His face soon started to droop further hearing the unfortunate news. "Oh… I see… That's rather unfortunate. Do you know how long until the treatment is complete? My patient needs it really badly." … "Hmm… That long, huh? Sigh… Okay… Thanks for letting me know. Have a nice day."
He soon hung up the phone and lowered his head in shame.
"Damn it… Another dead end… That's the fifth one tonight!" he said as he was rubbing the temples of her head and has his elbows on the desk. Groaning, he knew this would've been impossible to help save Kelly from the disease that would hurt her for life. "Why is it that the kids are the ones who would suffer?" he asked himself. "They are so young and full of life and they have to be the ones that would be unfortunate. No matter how many treatments we have, it won't be enough to give them better lives. Maybe the nurse is right. Maybe it's impossible to save everyone. Maybe I'm way over my head."
He gave a groan and has to figure out a way to figure things out. Thinking of it, he shook his head and decided to not surrender.
"No… I can't give up. Not yet. I need to find a way to find the proper treatment to save Kelly." he said with a bit of confidence. But feeling a little on edge, he leaned back on his chair and was a little frazzled.
"Still… All that angst is starting to cause me to get a little antsy. I really need to unwind." he said with annoyance.
Looking at this desktop computer, he had a lot of windows opened for researching for a proper treatment. Still, that hasn't gotten him anywhere as they wouldn't give him any answers. But at the side of the icons, there was one icon that got his attention. At the lower corner, is a game logo of Overwatch. Now Downer wasn't much of a gamer, but he was interested in Overwatch for a specific reason. Looking at the icon, he gave a sigh and said, "Might as well blow off some steam on playing Overwatch. Could clear my head from all this mess."
Sipping his coffee, he clicked on the Overwatch icon and waited for it to load up. Once the window opened and the progression bar appeared, the game was fully loaded and took him straight to the title screen. Clicking start with the mouse pointer, he waited for the main menu to appear and he hovered over what game mode he wanted to play. Going through his options, he decided to use quick play and waited for a match to start.
"I'll just play a round of Overwatch. That will clear my head for a bit before getting back to work." He said as he took another sip.
As he waited, the game found a match and took him to the loading screen. That's when he noticed that it was one of the original maps: Watchpoint: Gibraltar. Looking at it, he knew what it was.
"Hmm… An escort mission in one of the famous maps, huh? Seems like an easy map to beat. Course it depends on who the teammates are and who the enemies will be. Speaking of which…" The screen changed to the character selection and Downer knew whom to pick. "Time to pick my character for this game. And I think I know who…"
Skimming down the character selection, he went to the healer section and chooses the one healer he could relate to. Mercy.
A guardian angel to those who come under her care, Mercy, real name Angela Ziegler, is a peerless healer, a brilliant scientist, and a staunch advocate for peace. As one of the original members of Overwatch, she is the most gifted doctor in the world when it comes to medical technology and has applied such technologies to her own body. But it wasn't easy for her. Growing up, her parents were dedicated doctors who volunteer their services to help those in need. In fact, the last time she saw her parents were when they were volunteering at a local hospital during the Omnic Crisis, as Switzerland was dealing with the consequences of war. But as she was waiting for them to return, she got the news that her parents were killed in an air strike. Despite this tragic event and the pain of loosing her mom and dad, she wasn't consumed by a thirst for revenge. Instead, she dedicated her life to become an advocate of peace at a young age.
As the years went on, Ziegler establish herself as a medical prodigy, studying her craft and following in her parents footsteps. She even helped out Torbjorn in the hospital after loosing his arm during Operation White Dome. As she was studying in the university, she would visit the Overwatch base from time to time and even taking a picture with Torbjorn and other Overwatch members. After obtaining her MD and PHD, she rose to become the head of surgery before pioneering a breakthrough in the field of nanobiology that radically improved the treatment of life-threatening illness and injuries. This got the attention of Overwatch as Commander Jack Morrison was impressed by her thesis and offered her a job in HQ as head of medical research. And while she was hesitant at first, she agreed and join, knowing she wouldn't have to worry about the grand or haggle for new equipment she need for her continuous research. As a member of Overwatch, she helped out and provided various treatments and bio-engineering surgery for not only civilians but also Overwatch members, practically those closest to her. She even make some augmentations with her own body, providing herself with a unique flight system known as Valkyrie swift-response suit that would help her air the injured as quickly as possible, giving her the name of Mercy. There were some restraints between her and her superiors over technology being exploited and weaponized for war. But she remained firm and continued being a peace ambassador while serving in multiple missions, including the King's Row Uprising with Tracer, Reinhardt, and Torbjorn. Even after Overwatch's fall, Mercy still helps those in need and traveled around the world, all the way up to the Recall and reformation of Overwatch. Up to that day, Mercy has always become the best medic in the field and will do anything to save the innocent.
While Mercy is not much of a fighter like the other character, she is more of a healer. So her arsenal mostly focuses on healing then that of combat. With her Valkyrie suit, she can not only glide through the air, but also use one of her abilities, Guardian Angel, to fly fast in quick succession to reach those who are badly injured. Her supposed weapon is called the Caduceus Staff where she can use it heal her teammates, but also increase their damage input by 30%. Another ability is that she could resurrect people when they die and would have to wait a ten to fifteen seconds to respawn. But with her ability, Mercy can instantly bring them back from the dead and bring them back in the field, that is if she can heal them back up after resurrecting them. She can even regenerate her own health just incase she was damaged and would need to a place to hide. But her ultimate ability is her Valkyrie system as her healing/damage increase and spread to other teammates, has infinite ammo, and speed movement doubles as a means of gaining an advantage. Of course, even if she heals, she still needs to defend herself as she has her Caduceus Blaster to damage the opponent if she is all-alone and has no one with her. But she rarely uses it as she is focused on helping others then hurting.
And that's something Downer likes. People who likes to heal and not hurt. Mercy is one who would save many lives with her advances of medicine and wouldn't turn a blind eye on the weakest and sickest. Looking at the character he has chosen, he knew that she would be something special.
Looking at her, he sighed and said, "I must admit, Mercy is something. Always helping the weak and helpless. I bet she can help Kelly's condition and let her live a normal life without going through so much pain. If only she existed in real life, then maybe she can save Kelly from her escapable faith."
Course, what he didn't know is that it would happen eventually after one more match. See, while he never plays much of video games, his own son was playing Overwatch himself and saw Mercy on the screen. Of out of curiosity, he bought the game for his computer in his office and plays it whenever he needs a break from hospital life or relieves some stress in certain moments. And every time he plays it, he always chooses Mercy as his main stay. And believe it or not, he has been unbeatable when it comes to choosing her. Flying around and healing people at the same time giving them damage inputs. Resurrecting them when they are gone and using Valkyrie to fly towards them the quickest. He always uses the healing ability more than that of the combat ability. And it has been proven constantly. Since choosing only Mercy, he has been undefeated in matches by healing his teammates and giving them extra damage to smite their enemies. And he has won pretty much 99 matches, with this one to be hundred if he beat it. Course, what he doesn't know is that the Overwatch Recruitment Program is looking into him. And with his assist kills count as actual kills, he could be getting to that hundred mark as well as the match mark. It all matters if he can reach those qualifications without him knowing it.
Thinking about Mercy coming to real life, he gave another sigh and said, "Still… That would be impossible as she's just a video game character. There's no way she could be real, even if I wish for it." Course, he doesn't know that will be true if he beats this game. "Oh well… Guess I have to dream of that day to come. Until then, better play as her then have her here to help me."
Once the countdown went to zero, he was in Winston's lab, claiming that he and his team were the ones doing the escorting. Looking at the team he has, he was surprised who was on it. There is a Tracer for speed, Winston as a heavy, Soldier 76 for offense, Reinhardt for defense, and a Torbjorn for support. Seeing this team, he knew who they are and realized what they currently have.
"Huh… Wouldn't you know it. Look like we got the whole Overwatch team together. Didn't think that would happen." He said as the countdown was ticking to start the first round. "Still… There is the concern on the opposing team and whom they have there. That could be problematic if who they have will overpower us. Hmph… Guess we have no choice but to wait and see whom we're dealing with. Better not be those that could be too tough for us."
Quickly, Winston decided to take the top floor, so Downer lead his Mercy character to go after him, using her wings to fly up high. Getting to the doorway to exit, Downer thought of what to do.
"Guess my best bet is to take a look at the field to see what we're up against. Hopefully, I might know who's on the other side and what to do against them. Really don't want surprises." he said with some anticipation.
The timer went down to five seconds as everyone was ready. The moment it hit zero, the doors opened and the group went in for the charge. Both Winston and Mercy were perched up on the balcony as they surveyed the area. Downer looked to the opposing side and noticed that the enemy forces were completely stable. They have a Pharah in the air, starting to fire rockets and Reinhardt and his shielding. There's a Widowmaker perched on the catwalk keeping watch and looking for an exposed opponent and was sniping a fast moving Tracer blinking fast to avoid the shots. There's a at the payload and was shooting bullets and rockets at the shield to weaken it. On the farther end at the top of the building is a Bastion in his turret mode and shooting a lot of bullets at the team. There's a Junkrat that is shooting grenades right at them as well. And finally there was Zenyatta for help heal his teammates while shooting his orbs at any forces. Looking at all of this, Downer knew that it wasn't going to be easy.
"Crap. Looks like they too have a well-balanced team as well. Between the sniper, a movable turret, and a heavy, they have a healer of their own. This could be a bit of a problem. Let's hope we can beat them and win the match." he said with worry.
Already, Mercy and Winston noticed Reinhardt was holding himself at bay while Soldier 76 was firing his bullets followed by some rockets along the way and Torbjorn using his rivet gun to pick off the rest. They knew that the knight's shield was fading fast and has to act now before it is too late. So Winston decided to shoot two birds with one stone and launched himself off the balcony and headed to the payload where the enemy force is protecting. Mercy soon joined him as she used her guidance system to fly towards the gorilla. Pretty soon, Winston landed on top of the payload as the enemies around it were pushed away from the impact. He soon placed a barrier over the payload to protect himself as Mercy joined him and started to give him a damage output. To that end, he used his lightning gun and gave a shock to those that are the closest. Zenyatta and Junkrat were the closest as the lightning bolts with the increased damage shocked them. But they can still fight at they fired orbs and grenades at the barrier. soon joined in and fired her arsenal right at the ape's blue dome. Even Bastion joined them at the top of the building as it fired a full drum at the barrier to take it down before destroying them. Already, the shield was about to break down and both Winston and the Mercy were about to get mowed down. But what the group didn't know is that what they were really doing was distracting them as their team came to their aid. With them getting distracted this gave Downer's team a chance to take hold of the payload. Reinhardt soon charged in and plowed through Junkrat as he pinned him to a wall. He soon turns to see seeing it go down and solely focus her attention in on the heavy, firing her missiles in the process. He swung his hammer and fire an energy stream right the mech to add some damage. At the same time, Soldier 76 and Torbjorn joined in and fired with whatever they currently have. Of course, the sniper was in range and looked for the right moment to fire her shot at them. But what she didn't know is that someone has already joined her and not in a good way. As Tracer went beside her and the player playing her added a voice that says…
"Pst… What'cha lookin' at?"
In instinct, the sniper turned to her and fired her rifle, trying to pull some shots at her. The scout zipped left and right before going back and forth with her pulse pistols firing at her. The sniper has little time to react as she was being attacked on all sides by one girl. Pretty soon, Widowmaker was defeated and was eliminated. Bastion could see this and reacted by shooting its gattling gun at her. She was badly damaged, but she managed to rewind herself and gain some health before falling back to the payload. She soon joined Reinhardt and assists him in taking care of . Together, they managed to take down the mech while the pilot ejected out and backed away while shooting. Zenyatta managed to back her up and threw a harmony orb at her and keep her healed, but the two had to make a retreat incase they get easily destroyed. With them out of the way it lead Downer's team to get on the payload and it started to move to the first checkpoint. Reinhardt got his recharged shield up front to protect his team while Torbjorn got his turret set up in the middle of the moving platform. Once they were on a move, it would be a matter of time for the enemy team to come in and stop them. One of them is Bastion as it was on the top of the building and sees them on the move. So it fired its turret drum and was ready to take them down. Reinhardt got his shielding to the direction of the bullets and managed to hold it back with Mercy healing those who were damaged by the assault. But those said bullets were starting to damage the shielding and it was about to break apart.
"Barrier can't hold forever!"
Downer saw it going down on the computer screen and knew that he needs to do something. Even if Torbjorn's turret were shooting at the bot, it still wouldn't be enough. Using his character, Mercy saw Soldier 76 and came up with a good idea. Using her staff, it aimed it at the soldier and started to give him an extra boost of damage.
"You should be a peak performance level."
Feeling that, Soldier 76 used his arsenal to fire his bullets and rockets at Bastion. The bot was getting heavily damaged and changed back to retreat while repairing itself. With him out of the way, Soldier 76 gesture for a thank you. Downer looked at the screen and sighed in relief.
"That was too close. Just a bit more and maybe we all would've been torn to shreds with Bastion at the defense. We need to get this payload to the first check point if we are to advance." he said to himself with a bit of worry. "No doubt, the others are already setting up a defense at the checkpoint entrance to prevent us from getting there. We just need to break through it if we can get there."
The Payload was making its way to the checkpoint while the team was around it, keeping close watch. When they got under the bridge archway, they could see grenades coming around the corner and bouncing to them. Those grenades exploded around their feet and nearly blasted them, taking down their health. Mercy quickly healed them to make sure they can stay alive for a little longer. Yet despite the attack, they continued to push forward as they were crossing the bridge. But as they did that, someone got a purple orb and was tagged. Downer saw that and knew what it was.
"An ambush!"
Indeed, it was an ambush, as Zenyatta came out with who got her mech back and were ready for round two. He threw a yellow orb to his partner as the pilot used her mech to shoot constantly to make sure everyone is down. Downer's team turned to the two and had to take them out now in order to proceed, otherwise, they would cross under the bridge. As they were shooting their weapons at the two, used her defense matrix to absorb all the damage and left the two unscathed. She soon fired her bullets and missiles to take some serious damage. Thankfully, Winston's barrier absorbed most of the damage, but it was enough to destroy the shielding and leaving both him and the engineer's turret vulnerable. Reinhardt soon got his shielding in front of the two and protected the two, but that too won't last forever. Downer looked to the situation and needs to find a way to help them out. When he his character to see Tracer behind the shield, he came up with an idea and started to talk to the player playing her.
"Tracer, you with me! We need to take out Zenyatta before our team gets rid of . You shoot; I'll provide you with extra damage. Let's go!"
The person playing Tracer acknowledged that and went on with the plan. Getting behind the knight, she zipped fast past the mech and behind the healer as Mercy used her wings and glide towards her. By the time the two got behind, the medic used her staff to increase the damage of the scout. Once they were together, the two started to fight and Tracer fired her dual pistols at the mechanic monk. Zenyatta felt that and turned to see the two and started to throw orbs at them. He started to attack the scout as her damage was dropping significantly. Quickly Tracer uses her rewind ability to restore most of her health. But doing so, it lead to Zenyatta targeting Mercy and threw a few more orbs to damage her as well. On instinct, Downer switched Mercy's staff to a pistol and fired a few shots at him to damage him further. Already, he was low on health as his shielding was depleted. But both of them were even and Zenyatta was about to finish the medic off. But Tracer reappeared near the healer and used the rest of the pistol ammo to finish him off. In a matter of seconds, Zenyatta was eliminated and Mercy gained a point after assisting Tracer. Once that happened, this gave the rest of the team a chance to strike back. Reinhardt started to charge in and plowed through pushing her right to the wall. Stunning her, he swung his hammer at her and damaging her a lot. Tracer soon assisted him and continued to shoot multiple shots at the mechs armor. At the same time, Mercy used first her healing stream and heal up the heavy and than the damage side to increase his damage. While was trying to shoot, it wasn't enough as her mech was easily destroyed. The pilot ejected out the mech before it broke apart and backed away with her pistol firing. But that didn't matter as Tracer chased after her with her blink ability and followed her, firing back. Within moments, both Zenyatta and were eliminated and Mercy got the two points from assisting them. Downer looked to the end result and couldn't help but to chuckle.
"Ha, ha… That was quite a plan, if I do say so myself. And who say FPS's is about shooting like a crazy maniac? Now… Let's see what we're up against at the first checkpoint." He said feeling a bit of self-accomplishment.
With that, the first half of the group was heading up the steps to investigate while the other half moved the payload to that said checkpoint. By the time they got there, Reinhardt was bombarded with bullets and deployed his shield. This gave them a chance to see what they're up against. There's a Bastion perched on the second floor catwalk, up in the corner with a good enough view of the payload approaching. Widowmaker was perched in the other corner, waiting to give out some headshots. Junkrat was next to her and was ready to shoot his grenades. And Pharrah was in the air, ready to fire rockets at them. Seeing them all there, the doctor knew that this was their whole plan.
"Huh… So that's their end game. They take the higher ground to defend the first checkpoint. Hmm… This could complicate things." He said.
Once they backed away, they needed to formulate a plan where they can get rid of the higher ground. Tracer thought of something and used her blink and zip by their defenses to enter the hanger garage. Getting up the set of steps, she reached the second floor catwalk and came out the way she came in. When her blink charged, she got out of the garage and headed to the first target she saw, Bastion. Getting close, she fired a few shots before it noticed anything off. Bastion felt that and turned his turret to her, firing the drum at her. She was bombarded before she rewound herself to regain some health, then using her blink to fall back to the garage. But before she could get back, Widowmaker saw her flee and shot her in the head, taking the scout down in mere seconds. Bastion soon repaired itself and went back to position to fire. Downer saw that in her Mercy character and gave a sigh.
"Great thinking, Tracer, but a full frontal assault won't work on any occasions. There has to be a way to take them out so we can get the first checkpoint. But how…?" he pondered.
It was then that he hear Winston told everyone…
"Group up with me."
Followed by…
"My ultimate is ready."
Hearing those two sentences, Downer wondered, "Huh? Wondered what that big ape is up to?"
So the group started to fall back downstairs to reach the payload that was slowly moving up hill. Once they regrouped with Soldier 76, Winston, and Torbjorn, they wondered what the gorilla was up to. Mercy got her staff ready to heal those that would need it the most as Downer was still unsure of what he has up his sleeve. Slowly, they were approaching the checkpoint and could see the opposing team was getting ready to take them all out.
Gulping, he told Winston, "Hope you know what you're doing. Cause we are about to get bombarded in the worse of ways."
The moment they were exposed, the opposing force fired back with grenades, bullets, and rockets, ready to take them down in one fell swoop. But Winston was ready for everyone as he started placing his barrier to keep the team protected. Once that was done, he activated his ultimate and exploded in complete rage. In an instant, he fired his boosters and jumped up to the first targets, which are Widowmaker and Junk Rat. Both of them saw him fast approaching and immediately targeted him with their arsenal. But his has a stronger health bar that it barely scratched him. Reaching the second floor, he got between the two and knocked them off their perch, letting them plummet to the lower floor the payload was approaching. He soon turned to Bastion and launched himself to its position. The bot saw it go down and immediately turned to him to fire a lot of shots at him.
Downer saw him approached the bot as he could see his health cut in half and quickly declining. Groaning, he knew that he was planning and didn't like it. "Damn it, Winston! Why do you have to be suicidal with your enrage? You know it's temporary!" Knowing he needed assistance, he used his Mercy character to go after him and she spreads her wings to head to his position.
At the same time, the rest of them team saw the two on the ground and decided to take them out now before they could recover. So Soldier 76 gave the charge as he used his machine gun to fire the demolition junker before he could fire back. That soon followed by Reinhardt giving his charge to catch the sniper expert and pinning her to the wall. Both of them were taken care of as they were down for the count. But as they got rid of them, and Zenyatta returned and this time they meant business. The mech pilot used her boosters to charge in and plow through Reinhardt while firing her missiles and bullets at him. The metal knight was caught by surprise while he immediately got his shielding up to hold her back. But with his health desperately depleted, he has keep himself alive long enough until back up would arrive. But that would be short lived as he was focusing in front of him; he failed to notice what's above. Almost instantly, multiple rockets came coming down over him and weaken the rest of his health. The heavy wasn't prepared for that and had little time to getting out of it. That led to his ultimate demise as he perished from the rockets and was destroyed instantly. At the same time, Mercy was able to help Winston and with her healing and damage boosts, managed to take down the last of the defense. With Bastion down, Mercy looked at the battle on the ground and could see that things are starting to go a little sideways. On the one hand, Torbojorn was on the payload with the turret up and Winston's barrier still active as it slowly moves. On the other hand, while Widowmaker and Junkrat were disposed of, she could see and Zenyatta back for another go with Pharrah dealing with air support. Already, she could see Reinhardt is down while Soldier 76 was falling back to the payload. Seeing that, Downer knew that they still have a problem.
"Hmm… This is still complicated. While we dealt with the defenses, we have a few returning characters and a Pharrah still flying around. We need to take care of them before we could proceed." Looking to where Reinhardt was slain, he could tell that he still has time to told Winston, "Keep the others occupied. I'll bring one of our heavies back from the dead."
With that, Winston responded with…
"Understood."
And immediately, he jumped down and headed to the two enemy teammates that were heading to the payload. Once he did that, the two got separated as the gorilla focuses his attention to . Using his lightning gun, he shocked the mech and pilot and was trying to hold her back. Zenyatta saw that and threw a health orb to keep her stable while using a damage orb to inflict pain on the huge monkey. At the same time, Mercy flew down and headed to Reinhardt's body, ready to bring him back with her resurrection ability. Lifting her hand up, she begins bringing him back to life while Downer hope he doesn't get caught.
"C'mon, c'mon. Get this over with. I swear, every time I do this, I'm always exposed and vulnerable to an attack." He said with worry.
Speaking of which, Pharrah saw her bringing back her teammate and has to take her out now before it complicates things. Taking aim, she first fired her concussion blast and pushed the healer away. Thankfully, she managed to recover quickly and went back to resurrecting her teammate. Seeing that, the flyer soon use her launcher to fire her rockets. But just before she could take her out, she was immediately bombarded by bullets and looked to see who was shooting at her. That's when she noticed Torbjorn's turret in range of her and was shooting at her. Knowing the risk, she focused her attention at the turret to destroy it. But as luck would have it, Winston's shield is still active and it absorbed most of the damage. And while it cracked, it was still holding and the turret was unscathed. Pharrah quickly reloaded to fire a few more rounds to destroy the shield before destroying the turret. But just as she was about to do that, the turret took her out and the team's air support was no more for the moment. Downer looked at that through Mercy's eyes and was glad that the engineer got that taken care of.
"Phew… That was a close one." Just as he said that, he finished resurrecting Reinhardt and said, "And just in time to."
Once Reinhardt was fully recovered, the medic soon have him a damage boost and he soon targeted Zenyatta and gave a bit of a charge with Mercy following behind. He rammed the droid and sent him to the wall, destroying him in one hit with the additional damage stream. With the healer out of the way, the team soon came forward and went to town with . From bullets to lightning strikes to swings, the mech pilot was completely overwhelmed and her mech got destroyed. She got out and used her pistol to fire and back away, but it wasn't enough as Soldier 76 fired his rifle with rockets and bullets and took her out. By the time it was over with, the payload lurched forward and reached the garage door entrance. By the time they got their, they succeeded in the first checkpoint and time started to extend for them to have plenty of time. Downer looked to that and was glad that they were able get into the first checkpoint.
"Good. We got to the first checkpoint. So far so good. Though, I got the feeling that they weren't going easy on us. And with the garage having nothing but close quarters, it won't be easy to get to the second one. I just hope there won't be any more surprised along the way." He said with hope that there won't be any more trouble.
The garage door started to open up in front of them and they were about ready to come on in. But as they were getting ready to head on in, they were confronted with Bastion in his turret mode along with Widowmaker above with her sniper rifle ready on one end of the ship and a Junkrat on the other end of the ship. Seeing the group, they immediately went on the attack to hold Downer's team back. Reinhardt quickly got his shield up and protected them from any incoming assault. The doctor saw that and knew what has happened.
"Of course they were waiting for us. Why didn't I see this happening?"
As if on cue, Tracer, who joined the group after the clean sweep, decided to focus on the high ground while the rest can handle the turret. She zipped by and took the steps upwards to reach the catwalks. As she got there, her first target was Junkrat as she used her duel pistols to lay waste on him. He could feel that and turned to her to shoot some more grenades. Some of them hit her and she was low on health. But she has her recall and rewound herself and her health back and went back to shooting. After a few quick shots, she took out Junkrat and he died with his grenades popping out and exploding around him. Once he was down, Tracer soon focuses her attention to Widowmaker and she zipped into the parked jet and went on the other side. Once she found her, she was about to attack her. But unfortunately, she got caught by a venom mine that the sniper placed and took out a small portion of her health. When the trap got sprung, Widowmaker turned to see her and shoot at her with her rifle. Tracer managed to recover and shoot back, but it wasn't enough as she got taken down easily. Widowmaker thought she had it under control, that was until she got hit in the back by three rockets and killed her instantly. On the ground, Soldier 76 looked to that and used it as an opportunity to finish the job with his arsenal.
"At ease soldier."
With the two defenses in the second floor gone, all that's left is Bastion as it was still firing its drum at them. The shield from Reinhardt managed to keep the team alive for so long, until it started to brake from pressure and on the verge of breaking.
"Barrier's failing."
Downer looked to this and has to find a way in getting rid of the bot's turret mode. Looking at all the teammates, he need to find someone to help get rid of Bastion.
"C'mon, Downer. Think, think… Who could I bring in to help out on this bot? Running out of time here."
Looking to all the teammates, he spotted Soldier 76 who took care of the enemy's sniper rifle and decided to choose him as a partner. Pointing the staff to him, Mercy unleashed the damage stream to him and told him…
"Damage increase."
The soldier felt that and knew what Mercy want him to do. Charging in, he started by firing his rockets at the turret before shooting his bullets at it. Bastion could feel that and turned to his direction, shifting back to its bot mode and shooting his machine gun at him. The two duke it out as Mercy assisted the soldier with more damage. However, he was low in health and he placed a heath device on the ground and gained it back before the medic could do anything. After a bit of shooting, he was able to take out the robot and the area was cleared. The two returned to the payload as Reinhardt got his shielding down to recharge while Winston got his barrier up. With Tracer returned from the respawn that is close to the garage, the group was riding on it while the others were on constant watch of any more threats.
"That takes care of the defenses. But it's not over yet." Downer said to himself, "Where in a garage, meaning not enough to move around. Not to mention that there's no telling when the opposing team would use this for an advantage. Best check our corners and hope we don't run into more trouble."
They went around the corner and around the track pass the multiple objects just to get on track. The moment they get straight to the next corner, they were introduced to quite a surprise. Almost immediately, Pharrah appeared in the air and got into position to unleash her barrage.
"Justice rains from above!"
Rockets soon hit the barrier and damage the shielding to the point of breakage. The remaining rockets soon hit the others as Soldier 76 and Torbjorn were destroyed along with the engineer's turret. The rest managed to get into cover, as they were fortunate enough to survive the flyer's barrage. But that meant that their forces have dwindled and they need to regroup behind the payload. Downer saw it go down on the computer screen and knew that would happen.
"And just as I said that, this happens." He sighed and said, "At least its just Pharrah. She would be easy to kill."
But then suddenly…
"Activating Self Destruction Sequence."
Hearing that, he uses Mercy character to look up and see the mech of flying high and dropping, already beginning to self-destruct. Seeing that, he knew he spoke too soon.
"Crap…"
That's when Reinhardt got his shielding up and told everyone to get behind him.
"Get behind me."
On instinct, Mercy and Winston got behind the knight as Tracer zipped back. The moment they are behind Reinhardt's shielding, the mech blew up and pushed them back. Thankfully, the Crusader's shield protected them, but it lead for it to be damaged. Knowing that they escaped death, they have to take the two down now before more will arrive. On instinct, Reinhardt charged in and headed straight for before she could summon her mech. The pilot managed to bring it in and got in before the knight can do that. Once she was in, Reinhardt speared the mech and not the pilot, pinning both her and it to the wall. Even if he wasn't able to take out just the pilot, he can still damage the mech as he swung around and use energy swipes on her. At first, he might be able take the two out at the same time. But the most he swung, the longer she was still standing. He wondered why her mech was still operating despite the many swings he did? What he didn't know is that their own healer arrived to back them up. Zenyatta arrived on time as he tossed a heal orb to the pilot's mech to keep it online while at the same time, tossed a damage orb on the Crusader. Taking care of that, he crossed his arms and charged up his orbs. In one quick swoop, he fired all the orbs at once and damaged the knight completely. Reinhardt felt that and his health bar were cut in 75% at the least. Turning around, he could see the monk droid levitating and has his orbs around him. Knowing how damaged he is, he needed to fall back with his group before it got worse. Unfortunately, it got worse for him as he was bombarded by Pharrah's and 's missiles at the same time. This in turn led to his demise as he was easily defeated by three enemy teammates. Now that it's down to three, it was going to be a tough fight. All three members looked to each other and wondered what to do. Downer thought of that too and decided that they need to do what it takes to take them down, or keep them busy.
"Well, we can't just sit by and do nothing. We need to act now before they can get an advantage on us." He said giving them orders. "Winston, Tracer, we charge in and keep them busy. Place a barrier in the middle and zip around to avoid the shots. I'll heal you as much as possible. Let's go!"
The three soon charged in and did all that they could to hold them off. Winston got in the middle and caused the area to shake and pushing the opposing team around him. He soon placed a barrier over himself as Tracer and Mercy joined him for protection. Once they gathered together, they could see the opposing faction recovering and getting back to the three, firing their weapons. While the shielding was protecting them, it was beginning to crack and was about to break apart. Knowing they need to hold on for a little longer, Mercy used her staff and gives Tracer a damage stream and let her go nuts. And nuts she did as the scout zipped around and attacked all three team members. First, she took a couple of shots with Pharah as she fired two full clips on the flyer. Then she zipped around and fired at the back end of the mech, not wanting to shoot in the front with the pilot's defense matrix. Finally, she went to Zenyatta and fired more on the enemy's healer. She soon repeated the circle, trying to keep them busy. The three knew she was messing with them and had to take her out with their own arsenal. From rockets, bullets, and orbs, they were trying to swat the zipper and she blinks a lot to avoid them. And when she is damaged, she can use her recall to regain some health. However, getting it back would take some time. So Mercy switched to her health stream to help her regain health and switched back to damage. Already, things have been going well as Tracer was keeping them busy and the shielding is still holding. Yet they don't know if the others will arrive.
Checking on the health of his comrade, Downer looked on and wondered if they can last for long. "Okay… Something tells me this is taking so long. I hope the others will arrive, otherwise we would be in a whole lot of trouble."
By the time he said that, he could hear the sound of Bastion going on the charge as he knew that it got its ultimate ready and going to attack.
"Yep. As I thought, trouble has officially come."
As if on cue, Bastion arrived in its tank mode and started to fire a few shots. That caught the three by surprise as they were immediately owned. The first target was Tracer as she tried to avoid the shot with her blink. But it was too late as the explosion took her out. Then the tank got to the barrier and shattered it in one shot. The two knew they were trouble and Downer told the gorilla…
"Fall back! Fall back!"
The two quickly fell back to the payload and looking to find some cover. At the same time, the four went after them with Bastion taking the lead. It turned to Winston and shoots him by the back. While it took the shots, Winston use his jumper to get away and Mercy used her flight to go after him and gave him a heal stream to patch him up. When they are safe, it won't matter, as they need to make an escape.
"This is bad… We lost most of the team and the others are giving chase. What do we do?" the doctor said to himself.
They went pass the payload and turned the corner to find some cover until Bastion's ultimate would be spent. At the same time, the four were chasing the two and Bastion took aim at Mercy and was about to take her out. But before it could accomplish that, Reinhardt and Soldier 76 popped in through the doorway and they had their ultimates at the ready. The crusader first went forward and activated his special ability.
"Hammer Time!"
He dropped the hammer down on them and in a shockwave; he knocked down all three contenders in one shot and knocked them all silly. With them out, it was Soldier 76's turn to activate his own ultimate.
"Tactical Visor activated."
Turning on his visor, he quickly got his targeting system online and started to aim at each of them. Seeing that, Mercy uses that to her advantage got to his side with a damage stream. With extra power, he went to town with them and took out Zenyatta and Bastion with bullets and rockets. Pharah was in the air and saw it go down. So she decided to intervene and fired her rockets on them. Reinhardt saw that and used his wide shield to lift it up high and act it as an umbrella to absorbed the rocket damage. Once the rocket launcher was empty, the flyer needed to reload and got another set of rockets. But the soldier still has his ultimate activated and with an auto reload, he aimed at her and with Mercy's damage stream, took her out of the sky and his body plummets to the ground. Now all that's left is as he aimed at her and fired on her mech. She was able to recover used her defense matrix to protected herself from the shots. But that defense matrix isn't enough for the metal knight as he charged in and speared the mech and pilot right to the payload. Swinging his hammer he was able to damage her and without the metal monk healing her, it would be an easy kill. After a few swings, he destroyed the mech and the pilot ejected herself out of it. She was going to make an escape, but Soldier 76 used his weapon, visor, and Mercy's damage stream to take her down before his ultimate would be depleted. Once the team was taken out, Reinhardt turned to them and told them…
"Group up with me."
Just like that, they regrouped to him and they were all on the payload. The vehicle soon moved down the track and was making its way to the next checkpoint.
Downer gave a deep sigh and said to himself, "Phew… That was a bit too close. But regardless, we were able to take down the team and regained the checkpoint. Not to mention that I won some points after a bit of assist kills. Now all we have to do is reach the next checkpoint and we'll be one step closer to our goal. Let's hope the others don't interfere in our victory."
Almost immediately…
"Fire in the Hole!"
Downer heard Junkrat and knew his ability was activated. "Yeah, just like that."
He could hear the sound of the tire approaching the team as they need to make an escape or brace for the worse. Downer could see his ultimate is completely full and knew what it meant.
"Time to make an escape now before the tire reaches me." He said ready to take the shot.
Activating his ultimate, Mercy spreads her wings and flew up high in the air.
"Heroes Never Die!"
As soon as she was up in the air, she could see the Rip Tire already around he corner and was approaching her teammates. Reinhardt got his shield down as Winston placed his barrier. But that wouldn't matter as the tire got past that and detonated. While the gorilla and the knight survived the blast, Soldier 76 didn't get that treatment as he was wiped out. Seeing what happened, she swooped in and aided the team the best of her abilities. She started to heal both Reinhardt and Winston so that they can be at full health. Then she used her resurrect ability to get Solider 76 back to the fight. After that, she flew ahead to see what they are up against. Going around the corner, she could tell that both Widowmaker and Junkrat have already set up positions and was waiting for them to come around. Already, she could see the sniper having her own visor on and saw her coming, aiming her scope right at her. Mercy reacted and performed quick maneuver to avoid getting headshot. By the time she got out of the line of fire, she switched her staff with her pistol and decided to defend herself. The same can be said with Downer as he was on his own and he needs to take the two out before his ultimate is gone.
"Okay, Mercy… You got this. You just need to take these two out before the team comes around to get to the second checkpoint. Gotta make it count." he said to himself.
She soon went to the first target and fired some shots with her pistol. That first target is Widowmaker as she sees her charging towards her. The sniper expert saw her and fired her shots at her, hoping to get her in the head and take her down. The medic swiftly flew left and right to avoid the shots and continued to shoot. Even if she was able to shoot parts of her body down and not the head, Mercy can still regenerate and brings her health back up to its original state. After a quick reload, she was able to shoot Widowmaker down, mostly by the headshots. At the same time, her ultimate shuts down and she landed on the floor of the second floor catwalk, reloading her pistol after successfully taking down one of the possible threats.
Downer looked at his work and said, "There. One down, one to go. Now to find Junkrat and they have a clear path to the second checkpoint. He couldn't have gone far."
Looking around, Mercy was finding the demo rat to take him down. But as she started, she saw Junkrat right on front of her, face to face. He soon waved to her and gave her a greeting.
"G'day."
Downer looked on and find that surprising. So he responded with a wave and greeting of his own.
"Hello."
Downer soon said with his on mouth, "I'm so dead…"
That's when Junkrat tossed a mine to her and detonate to push her off of the catwalk. That blast damaged her considerably and she needs to make an escape before he could finish the job. Running backwards, she used her pistol to shoot him and found cover in a huge stack of boxes. Reloading and regenerating, Mercy was recovering from that surprise while Downer gave a groan.
"Well… That was embarrassing. Took down Widowmaker and instead got surprised by the most unpredictable character in this game. At least I can get into cover until backup arrives. Shouldn't be too hard."
As soon as he said that, a bunch of grenades came over cover and bounced off the walls and landed close to her. Looking at all of them, he knew he spoke to soon.
"Oh, right… I forgot that he has grenades that bounce off the walls. I'm an idiot." The doctor said in embarrassment.
Mercy soon got away from the grenades as they exploded around her. She barely got out of there as her health wad depleted greatly. She used her pistol to shoot away as Junkrat avoided the shots at a farther distance. Reloading his clip, he fired more grenades to finish the job. She ran away from the grenades raining down around her and was trying to survive. But with her health slowly regenerating, she has little time to escape this.
"Not good. Not good. Not Good! This guy is raining grenades on me and I'm too far to take him out. I can't escape this! What am I to do?" he said panicking.
What he didn't see is a blue blur going past him and vanishing in the doorway leading to the steps. Junkrat was reloading another round and kept shooting more grenades to keep her busy. He knew that he had her on the ropes and decided to finish the job. Throwing the mine, he said in his own words…
"Special Delivery!"
The mine landed near her feet as she was preoccupied and the demo rat had the detonator ready to ignite. But before he could push the button, he felt a sticking in his back and heard a familiar British voice.
"Bombs away."
Turned out it was Tracer as she zipped to avoid the grenades and made it to Junkrat to place a Pulse Bomb on his back. She soon recalled and falls back as the demo was trying to get the pulse bomb off of him. In mere moments, however, he got blew up and was killed in one shot with his mini bombs scattering and exploding. Yet the mine didn't explode, as he didn't detonate it near the doctor's feet. Mercy saw that and wondered what happened. The same can be said with Downer as the doctor wondered that too.
"Huh? That was unexpected. Wonder what happened?"
It was then that Tracer zipped to her and gave a wave to her.
"Hiya."
Seeing the scout, he sighed in relief and said, "Of course, Tracer comes in to save the day. Must've been waiting for the right moment to arrive like a hero. Should've come sooner, but I guess she like to make an entrance."
He soon gave his Mercy a thank you gesture as the payload made it around the corner. Already, he could see the team on or around it and could even see Torbjorn on it with his turret ready. No doubt he arrived, as the medic was preoccupied with two of the opposing players. The two soon joined them as they make their way to the second checkpoint. Once they rode together, Downer was giving what happened some thought.
"Hmm… This is really odd. Back at the start of the checkpoint, we were assaulted by the team. By the time we get to the second checkpoint, it was just Widowmaker and Junkrat. Doesn't make any sense. Why let those two handle the second checkpoint and not the entire team? Hmm… Something doesn't seem right." he asked himself.
The payload made it to the second checkpoint as the timer extended further, giving them amble time to reach the rocket. As the door slowly opened, Downer knew that this was nothing more then a trap. When the door was fully opened, they were introduced with the rest of the enemy team. They could see Bastion on the corner of one end; Pharah was in the air, on the roof, and Zenyatta in the middle. Seeing them all, he knew that was going to happen.
"Yep. Definitely a trap."
Bastion, , and Pharah started to fire their bullets and rockets at them, preventing them to proceed. Reinhardt got his shield down and was able to deflect the bullets. It was then that the team began to fire back and hoping to take anyone down. But Zenyatta stopped them as he had his ultimate ready and immediately activated it.
"Pass into the Iris…"
As he did that, he went all deity and gave the three a health boost to keep them alive as the projectiles Downer's team was doing won't do zilch. He could see that and was getting annoyed.
"Damn it. Figure he had Transcendence on stand by the whole time and decided to use it now while we are reaching the final objective. Now we can't kill anyone with that thing on." He rubbed the temples of his head and was trying to figure out what to do. "Guess our only option is to wait for him to stop using it. But that will take some time. If only there's some way in gaining an advantage and getting them all out of our hair."
It's then that he heard the monkey saying something.
"I feel like I'm getting angry."
Hearing that, he turned to Winston as he was ready to unleash his ultimate again. With a nod, Downer said to him, "Okay… That will do. Let's target that monk. I'll provide you with assistance. See if we can take him to the cliff and eliminate him. Go!"
With that, he activated his enraged and immediately charged with his jump ability. Mercy soon followed him as she administered a damage boost for extra damage. But that wouldn't count with Zenyatta's transcendence in full effect. Still, they have one goal in mind. To knock the mechanized monk off a cliff. Zenyatta saw them and didn't have a way to fight back with his ultimate on. That lead to Winston to pound on him and caused him to fly to one end of the area, near the cliff. The gorilla soon charged ahead and went towards him, swinging his arms like a mad man. The monk had little time to get out of there as he was getting pushed further and further to the cliff. With one impactful swing, he knocked Zenyatta off the cliff and was falling to his death while his ultimate was still on. Winston soon calmed down as he adjusted his glasses and said to the medic…
"I… Erm… Seem to have lost all control."
Downer gave a chuckle could understand that.
"Yeah… I can tell. At least we got rid of their healer, for the moment. Let's get back to the group. I doubt they could need some help." He said.
He soon heard Soldier 76 saying…
"I need healing."
Followed by Tracer with…
"Need healing!"
Downer sighed and said back, "Like I said… They need help. Let's get going."
The two hurried to the group as they were trying to protect the payload. Seeing the battle, they could see that they have already have their hands full. Not only that Reinhardt is trying to look hold back the forces with the shield, the others were taking advantage of it. Bastion Pharah and were in their usual positions and were firing. But already Junkrat joined them and followed his grenades constantly at them. With all that firepower the shield would be on the verge of getting destroyed and everyone would be vulnerable. To make matters worse, they could already see that the soldier and scout were already low on health after trying to take them out. They have to do something otherwise they would be wasted and the payload won't move. So they need to act now before it's too late.
"Looks like this need us more than ever. C'mon! We don't have time." Downer commanded.
The two made their way to the group with Winston using his jump and Mercy using her wings to soar. At the same time, Reinhardt was struggling and couldn't hang on forever. That's when the shield he placed was destroyed and the team was completely vulnerable.
"Barrier's destroyed!"
The enemy force saw that and knew that they the opening that they need. So with their weapons armed, they begin to lay waste to the group and were going to administer a team kill. But as they started to attack, Winston came to the rescue and placed a barrier around the payload.
"Barrier: Activated."
The bullets bounced back from the barrier and protected the team from a complete massacre. At the same time, Mercy approached the group and started to heal both Soldier 76 and Tracer to full health. Once they got everything handled, they now have to focus in getting rid of the threat in front of them. To handle the ground forced, Torbjorn was saving his ultimate for a special occasion and activated it immediately.
"Molten Core!"
With a good enough angle, he spread the lava in a curve and hit the three combatants in the ground. All three of them were burning up and had to make their leave. Bastion, who was in his turret mode, switched back and ran away, using his repair function to fix himself. At the same time, did an about face and boosted upwards to get away from the stream of lava. But for Junkrat, he wasn't the fortunate one as he had the lowest of health and died instantly before he could make an escape. That left Pharah as she was still in the air and trying to shoot the group down with her rockets. But with the barrier still up, she was only able to weaken and crack it. She quickly reloads and was about to use the next batch of rocket and shatter it. But Soldier 76 saw her and fired his own barrage of rockets followed by his bullets to knock her off the sky. The moment she's down, the payload proceeded to go further and made the turn to reach its final objective, the rocket itself.
"So far so good. We pass two checkpoints and cleared the way at the exit. Now all we need to do is take this payload to the rocket and the game is over." Downer said with a bit of confidence. "Still, that doesn't mean we're out of the woods yet. What with some of the members retreating and the others respawning, there's no telling what they have plan for us. No doubt they will be pulling all the stops the track's end. We better be ready for anything and everything."
The moment he said that, someone sniped Tracer in the head and brought her down in one shot. Seeing that, he uses her Mercy character to look up as said to everyone…
"Sniper! Don't get caught!"
That's when he could see Widowmaker perched on a small part where she could get a good enough view to snipe anyone close by. Seeing that, he finished with what he just said.
"Yeah. Just like that."
Quickly everyone prepared themselves for the push forward as Reinhardt took the lead and place his barrier in front them and the payload.
"Get behind me!"
Everyone went behind the crusader as he starts the journey to the final objective. Widowmaker took a couple of shots on the shielding to take it out, but it wasn't enough to take it down. But then, Pharrah made a reappearance and assisted the sniper by activating her ultimate.
"Rocket Barrage! Incoming!"
Winston placed a new barrier of his own while Reinhardt got his barrier up to act like an umbrella. As they were keeping the rockets at bay, the sniper saw Reinhardt exposed and aimed right at his head. With one shot, she killed the knight and he was down for the count. Mercy could see that and has to get him back up his feet. With the barrage over, she flew to his body and begins the resurrect spell. But that too lead her getting exposed and Widowmaker took immediate aim to her. As she was about to pull the trigger, three rockets came in and damaged her on impact. Removing her scope, she could see Soldier 76 watching her and fired those rockets to keep her away from the medic. He soon fired a few shots and Widowmaker had to fallback by using her grappling hook to get to the catwalk over the path near the end of the objective. As she was away, Mercy was able to bring back the knight from the dead and told him to keep fighting.
"The Battle Continues."
Reinhardt thanked her and placed the barrier again, trying to keep the threats at bay. But with Widowmaker and Pharah on the enemy team, it won't be too easy. So Tracer made her return and this time focused on the two that would hold them back. Zipping into one of the rooms, she climbed the stairs and reached her first target. Getting to the sniper, she fired her pistols and caught her by surprise. Turning around, she fired a few shots and fired a venom mine to her. Some of the shots damage while the mine gave her a weakness. Quickly, she recalled and regained all her health, using her ammo to finish her off. Once she took out Widowmaker, she looked up to see Pharah still firing her shots at the team. All she needed to do is get her attention and fired her weapons at her. The flyer felt and turned to see her standing there with a salute of her own.
"'Ello."
Seeing the scout, she aimed her rocket launcher and fired a few missiles at her. Tracer zipped back and forth to avoid these said shots. Course, that was a quick distraction as the others saw her and took that opportunity. With bullets and rivets, both 76 and Torbjorn took her out with their abilities and managed to knock her out of the sky. With the eyes in the sky gone, the team proceeded in reaching the rocket to win the first round. But as they were getting there, Tracer was about to join them when a barrage of bullets hit her in the back when she wasn't blinking. With her down, the group was in shock and wondered what happened. The moment they turned, they could see what awaits them. At the rocket end, they could see the rest of the group that was on the defensive. Bastion was on one end in his turret mode. was on the other end with her mech armed and ready for an attack. Junkrat was in the middle with his grenade launcher at the ready. And behind him, Zenyatta was in front of them with his orbs floating. Seeing that force, Downer knew that they could be in for quite a fight.
"That can't be good. Between the people we're up against and the other two making their return, it's going to be a difficult fight. Our best option is to push harder if we are to win this round. I just hope some of them have their ultimates at the ready. Cause if we don't, it's going to be a difficult fight."
The enemy group started to arm up as Downer's team did the same. With the payload slowly moving toward the goal, Downer told everyone to attack.
"Open fire!"
So Soldier 76, Torbjorn, Winston, and Reinhardt used their lightning bolts, bullets, rockets, rivets, and energy swipe to strike first. At the same time, the opposing team has their own bullets, rockets, grenades, and orbs to do the same. The Crusader placed a barrier down on the floor to hold them back, but the shield was breaking apart pretty quickly. By the time it broke apart, Winston came in and placed his own barrier and told everyone to gather.
"This will protect us."
The group got together to be protected. But that too couldn't take the strain, so it too broke apart from the barrage. But they won't give up as Mercy had her ultimate at the ready. Activating it, she flew high in the air and used her staff to heal everyone at the same time. This gave them some time to fire back as they were using whatever they had to take them down. At the same time, Widowmaker and Pharah came out of the respawn and joined the group. That's when they could see the healer in the air keeping her team alive. So with that, the flyer took off as the sniper got her scope armed to aim at Mercy. Downer didn't notice them until a rocket came whizzing by. Turning around, she could see Pharah approaching her with her rockets as Widowmaker took aim. Knowing the situation, she did an about face and headed to the roof before more shots would be fired. She landed when her ultimate was drained and headed to the door as rockets rain down on her, giving her minor damage. Pharah could see that and landed on the roof to give chase. At the same time, the rest of team has to do it themselves as their Mercy went MIA. So with two ultimates armed, the heavies decided to charge forward to begin their attack.
"For the Crusaders!"
Reinhardt started his attack with a hammer smash as a shockwave went straight and knocked both Zenyatta and Junkrat in the process. But Bastion, , and Widowmaker weren't as that was meant for the second part of the plan. That's when the knight gave a charge straight and rammed their healer to keep him from healing the team while ramming the rat in the process. Once he took the healer out, Winston got angry and jumped to one end to take care of Bastion and Widowmaker. At the same time, Reinhardt swung his hammer to focus his attention on the other two. As they were giving them a fight, Soldier 76 noticed Mercy running away from Pharah and saw them go into one of the buildings. Knowing this, he sprinted to that building as Torbjorn stayed behind.
In the building, it was a mistake for Mercy. It's one thing to make an escape. It's another run into close quarters, meaning it's easy for the rockets to get her. One already flew in and almost hit her going down the stairs but she turned and avoided, only to be left with some damage. Turning around, she used her pistol and fired some shots at her. While she got some, she didn't get much out of it. Downer watched it on the screen and knew that he was in trouble.
"Damn it! This was a stupid idea! What was I thinking?! Going in here knowing that rockets and close quarters don't go together. Should've remained outside when I have the chance or regrouped with the others. Now I'm going to die because of my stupidity. And I'm a great doctor for crying out loud!" he complained.
Another rocket hit her and she was nearing death's door as she kept firing her pistol. Both of them have low health, as it would take one or two shots to take each other out. Pharah has one rocket in her arsenal and was ready to finish her off. But before she could do that, a barrage of rockets came in and hit her, eliminating her completely. Downer saw that and used Mercy's character to turn to see who saved her. Turns out, it was Soldier 76 as his gun was smoking from the rockets.
"Soldier 76! Oh, thank goodness you came in the nick of time. I thought I was a goner."
With that, the soldier placed a healing pack on the floor and told her to come in it.
"Get over her and get stabilized."
With that, Mercy walked into the area to regain her health. While she can regenerate, this is far quicker then her ability. Once she was fully healed, Downer responded with her character saying with Sweedish…
"Tack sa mycket."
With that over, Downer said to himself, "Now to get back to the team. Bet they need my help when I'm away."
As soon as he said that…
"Need Healing!"
"I need healing!"
Hearing that from Reinhardt and Winston, he sighed and said, "Yep. They need my help. Let's get back there!"
Soldier gave an acknowledgment and the two returned to the payload. Once they arrived, they can already see the team holding back, but they can't budge the payload with the others still around the rocket. They could already see Winston and Reinhardt getting low on health as they were holding back with their barriers. Tracer was already there with her blinking and trying to get a few quick shots. And Torbjorn was keeping his turret intact as he hammered it constantly. What makes it worse with that the timer was already on sixty seconds, leaving them with little time in getting there.
"Sixty seconds remaining."
Hearing that announcement, Downer needs to help them otherwise they won't stand a chance. "Going to the home stretch, I see. We better get down there and win this round. If not… Well… There's no consequences. We're just up two points. Though we need three to have some lead and I have no idea what they do when they attack. But need to focus on winning this. Better get to work."
Soaring to the group, she used the healing stream to patch both heavies up. Once they are in full health, they continued to get into the defensive and were keeping them at bay. Tracer has her ultimate at the ready as she zipped to Zenyatta and tossed a sticky bomb to him.
"Times Up!"
But Zenyatta was ready and used his transcendence to prevent him from blowing up.
"Pass into the Iris."
Seeing him keeping his health and others health up, Downer groaned and didn't like that one bit.
"Argh! I hate it when he does that. There's no end to his healing meditation." He complained.
As he was thinking that, he heard Soldier 76 saying…
"Tactical Visor Ready."
Hearing that, Downer knew that they might have a chance.
"Okay… Maybe there is a chance. Okay, 76, here's the plan. We wait until Zenyatta's transcendence dissipates. Once he's over with it, it will be our time to strike. Get ready." Downer ordered around.
The soldier gave an acknowledgement and was waiting for the right moment to strike. At the same time, Reinhardt placed his barrier down to keep the enemy at bay while Zenyatta kept his transcendence to keep his team alive for so long. But in a matter of moments, his ultimate got depleted and is in desperate need of a recharge. Once it was done, Downer knew it was time and told the soldier, "Now! Hit em' hard!"
With that, the two made the charge with Downer's Mercy pumping the extra damage from her staff. Once she did that, Soldier 76 started to activate his ultimate.
"I got you in my sights."
Once the visor was activated, he went all out as he targeted each person and with extra damage, taking them out one at a time. saw that and used her defense Matrix to block out all the shots from him. That led her to have her ultimate ready and used her boosters to reach them. Ejecting, she activated her ultimate and said out loud…
"Nerf This!"
At the same time, Junkrat has his ultimate charged and yelled outloud…
"Fire in the Hole!"
Deploying his rip tire, he revved it and was about to take off. Torbjorn saw this and had his ultimate at the ready too. Getting at a good angle, he got his mechanical arm up and fired more lava in a wide curve.
"MOLTEN CORE!"
The lava spread around the base of the rocket as the remaining enemies started to get cooked up. Even the Riptire didn't stand a chance as it was destroyed after a few hits from the lava. Pretty soon, and Junkrat were killed as the Tactical Visor with Mercy's damage boost took down Zenyatta and Bastion. Pharrah on the other hand, took off as Widowmaker used her grappling hook to get to higher ground. But they need to get into cover quickly as the pilot's mech was on the verge of exploding. The group either went into Winston's protective done or going behind the payload. As the mech stopped at the front, it exploded, but everyone was safe with the only casualty being the barrier. Once it was over, the payload moved further and was about to reach the rocket. The flyer and sniper saw that and has to stop them before it's too late. So they fired their rockets and sniper shots to take them down. A few of them got shot, but only weakened them. This left Mercy to heal them all as quickly as she could. Winston placed the barrier again and protects them from the multiple shots. As for Reinhardt, he could see the group coming out of the respawn room and were about to protect the rocket. Quickly, he charged in and made a mad dash towards the spot they were coming out of. That led to Junkrat suffering the blow and flattened to the wall as he placed the barrier to hold them back. Already, everyone had things under control, as the payload was getting closer with thirty seconds remaining. Just then, the rest of the enemy team came in from the other side to stop them. But Winston saw that and jumped to them and caused them to get pushed back. The gorilla soon used his lightning gun to give them a shock. All that's left on the payload is Mercy, Tracer, Soldier 76 and Torbjorn as they were about to make it. The barrier soon broke down after that many hits from the rockets and sniper fire. So they had to fire as much as possible as they were just mere inches. After what felt like forever, the game slowed down and the victory screen appeared with only seconds to go.
"Match Complete!"
Hearing that, Downer smiled and was excited that his team won the first round. Yet at the same time, worried about the second.
"Phew… Finally… That round is over. Any more and it would've gone to overtime and that team would've taken us out ion the first place. But thankfully, we were able to get those three points. Still… I'm a little concerned about the second round. Will the team switch up their strategy, gets some new characters, or will they stick with the formula? Hard to tell… Though I want to know what my team is going to do as well. Let's see where it will take us all."
Once the second round started, the game asked to pick their character. Of course, Downer kept Mercy as a way to help the team out. But looking at the rest of the team, there were some changes. So far, Reinhardt, Soldier 76, and Torbjorn remained, but Winston switched to Mei and Tracer switched to Echo. Looking at the choices, he finds that to be a bit skeptical.
"Odd… Only two of the players switched while the others stayed the same. Don't get me wrong, I respect having Reinhardt still on the team. But to have Mei and Echo instead of Tracer and Winston? That's seems like a stretch. I hope they can hold the team back as long as possible so we can win it. Cause I feel like what the opposing half has against us could be bad."
Once the timer was up, he and the others were in the barracks at the start of the game as they made the move to the payload. But instead to defending it, they are going to attack those that will use it. As they make their journey to the payload, he looked at the team and was still glad they are on the same page.
"Oh well… At least both Mei and Echo are still part of Overwatch in a way. Maybe they can be useful in holding the team back at bay. We just need to wait and see what happens when we see who we're up against."
The moment they reached the payload, they all started to set up position. Torbjorn started to go up with Reinhardt following him. Once they got on the catwalk, the engineer placed a turret there and has his rivet gun ready while Reinhardt got his shielding up to protect him and his weapon from any incoming attacks. For Soldier 76 and Mercy, they set up in the small room next to the payload to prepare for anyone coming. Echo was in the farther end of on the rooftop to attack from the distance. And Mei got into position near the main entrance door, setting her ice wall up and waited for the door to open. Once everyone is set up, Downer wondered what the enemy team is doing.
"Okay… So we currently have two new character on this team in Mei and Echo. The bigger question is what the opposing team is going to have let alone the strategy they got. Guess we're going to have to wait and see when the second round starts."
Looking at the timer, he could see it approaching zero. Once the timer reached it, the round started and the doors opened. But Mei pulled a fast one and placed an Ice Wall to prevent them from getting out before falling back. Unfortunately, the upper level was opened and Pharah came out of it to take off firing her rockets at the first obvious target, Torbjorn and his turret. Thankfully, Reinhardt was there and blocked the rockets with his shield. Echo saw that and decided to do the same. Activating her flight mode, she took off and pursue the flyer, firing her energy projectiles at her. Pharah felt that and turned to see her charging in the air. Refocusing her attention to the bot, she fired her rockets and hopes to hit her. Echo avoided the rockets as the two duke it out in the sky. But it was short lived as the ice wall broke down and the rest of the team took the charge. Already, the team could see Zenyatta, , Bastion, and Junkrat coming out. But also coming out is a new character that replaces Widowmaker. That character is Orisa as she was in the rear and firing her arm-mounted cannon at Downer's team. Mercy peaked at that and could tell that one of these characters has changed.
"Interesting… One of them switched to Orisa and not the others. Hmm… Guess that makes sense. They have a turret in Bastion and it needs desperate need of protection and Orisa is the best choice to protection. Though I think they took a page out of our playbook though. That's a little worrying." Downer said, wondering what they would do.
Getting his character back, both Mercy and Soldier 76 waited for any of them to see if they reach the Waypoint. As they were waiting, the others were holding their own as the enemy team made a mad dash towards the payload. Torbjorn used both his turret and rivet gun to pop some shots and amplified his firepower to weaken them further. Reinhardt was still protecting him and his turret, but joined in on the action as he lowered his shield and swung his hammer and sent a wave of energy to them. Orisa was taken the blow, but used her armor plating to protect herself from the attack. She targets the knight and was going to take him down. But Reinhardt got his shield up again and protected himself and the dwarf. Junkrat soon fired some grenades to help damage the shielding completely. But then he noticed the opening in the building and wondered if someone was in there. So with a fresh clip, fired more grenades at the opening. One of the grenades reached the opening; it landed near Mercy's and 76's feet. The two saw that and knew they could be in trouble.
"So much for the element of surprise! Run!" the medic in the real world yelled.
The two made a mad dash out of the back end and had to get away. At the same time, the grenade exploded and almost got the two. Once they were safe, they went around the building to try to get a better view.
"Jesus! That was too close. Seriously, why they kept a Junkrat he is more of a defense guy. Whoever was playing this character need to know of the difference between defense of offense." Downer complained.
At the same time, the enemy team made it to the payload and prep for departure. Bastion was already in his turret mode on the top while Orisa placed a barrier to protect it. At the same time, Pharah and Echo was dog fighting in the air, and they tried to outwit each other. Between the rockets and the energy projectiles, the two were evenly matched. But looking down, the droid could see the team already on the payload and were on the move. And with most of the team not around, she needed to stop them. Looking back at Pharah, she decided to finish it. Parry in the air, she used one of her abilities and fired a batch of sticky bombs and some of them got the flyer in the chest. With her projectiles, she was able to knock her out of the sky and was plummeting downward to the floor. Flying to the other end, she landed on the floor and activated her beam to hit the team in the back. The group felt the hit on each of their backs and turned around to see the droid attacking them. Quickly, Zenyatta threw a Discord Orb to trace her. The group soon fired at her and she got away with her flight systems. Yet the discord tags her and the team knows that they can follow her. and Junkrat soon followed her as Zenyatta, Orisa, and Bastion remained on the payload. At the same time, Mercy and Soldier 76 regrouped on the roof and saw the two opposing teammates going after Echo and Downer gave a chuckle.
"Huh… Looks like Echo is keeping some of them busy. That would give us time to take care of the rest." He said.
Mercy placed a damage boost on the soldier as he started to fire his bullets and missiles on the shielding. The shield was getting damaged and was on the verge of cracking. Orisa noticed that and turned to see the two on the roof Echo was on, trying to break the shield. As they were moving, Reinhardt and Torbjorn were still on the catwalk with the turret still active and was it too was firing as well as the engineer. The two fired at Reinhardt that had his shielding still up. Orisa felt that and looked up to see the two still attacking. Knowing this, she decided to stop them all once and for all. Pointing her arm-mounted cannon, she fired a green projectile and floated upwards near the four teammates. Once it stopped, it was immediately activated and pulled all four of them in, catching them by surprise. All four combatants were pulled off both the floor and catwalk as they had little time to react. Even Downer saw that and didn't think that will happen.
"Crap! Forgot Orisa can do that. We are too exposed for us to protect each other. We need to fallback now before we get destroyed."
With that, the pulled in team landed on the ground as they all retreated with Reinhardt holding them back with his shielding. Both Echo and Mei were either in hiding or running away from the others when they saw their teammates falling back to the first checkpoint. Knowing that they need to help them, they approached the back of the payload and fired their ice blasts and energy projectiles at the three in the back. Even Echo used her sticky bombs on a frozen Zenyatta and he was eliminated easily. They were going to focus their attention on Bastion and Orisa to stop the payload entirely. At the same time, Pharah managed to return and fired her rockets at them. The ecologist turned to her and launched her ice wall to protect them from the rockets. But even if that worked, they sort of forgot about two more coming towards them. Those two were and Junkrat as they assisted the flyer by taking down the wall. Once the Ice broke apart, they went to town with the two, firing all their projectiles at them. They did their best to hold on, even Mei show put ice around her to heal up. But it wasn't enough as Orisa and Bastion joined in and mowed them down, with Echo dieing first followed by Mei that broke out of the ice. Once the two were down, everyone joined in and rode and tailgate the payload to the first checkpoint.
Meanwhile, at that said checkpoint, the rest of the team set up camp and was ready to stop the enemy. Torbjorn and Reinhardt was on the corner of the catwalk where they could see the payload approaching while Mercy and Soldier 76 was on the other end of the catwalk above the garage door. Once they were set up, Downer looked at the two eliminations on the corner of the screen and gave a sigh.
"Looks like Echo and Mei were taken out. And we need them to hold the line on the first checkpoint. At least the respawn is close to here, so they might be able to help us hold them back. But the way this looks, I fear that they might reach the checkpoint. Let's hope it doesn't happen." he said with concern.
Waiting for the group to arrive, Reinhardt saw them approaching and warned the others.
"Enemies approaching!"
Hearing that, Downer knew what will happen and decided to move on with the plan.
"Here they come! Get ready to defend the checkpoint at all costs!"
By the time the payload arrived with the team, all four attacked them to keep them at bay. Torbjorn's turret first detected Pharah and fired her with it's bullets. The flyer saw that and fired her rockets to it. But Reinhardt's shield blocked off the rockets and protect not only the turret, but the engineer himself. Soldier 76 saw her attack, and retaliated with one of his own. Combining with Mercy's damage boost, he was able to take her down with his bullet/rocket arsenal. But that was only one flyer. Right now, they need to focus on the payload and the rest of the team stationed on it. So the group focused their attention on the group with bullets, rockets, and turret fire. Orisa's shield was starting to fail and about to break down. But the moment the shield is down, came up front and used her defense matrix to deflect all the bullets and rockets. Once that was spent, she used her boosters to fly up to the catwalk and went on the attack. That caught the group by surprise as they immediately focus on the mech and her pilot. With all the bullets and their disposal, they went on a full assault of . With the heavy armor, she was able to absorb the damage, but needs to take them out. Turning to Reinhardt, she used her booster and flew around him to get to the turret, firing her missiles at it. After many hits, the turret was destroyed, leading the dwarf engineer to get upset.
"My turret…"
She soon turned and fired more bullets at them. Reinhardt soon got in front of everyone and charged in to spear her down, crashing into the wall. He swung many times as fired constantly. As they were busy, the other three looked down and at the payload moving and they need to stop them.
"Damn it! They're getting close. We need to stop them at all costs." He panicked.
With that, the two jumped down and went on the attack, preventing them from reaching the garage door entrance. Mei started by placing an ice wall up to stop the vehicle from reaching it. They then split in two sides to go right into the attack. Echo and Mei went on one side to fire their icicles and energy projectiles while Soldier 76, Torbjorn, and Mercy went on the other end and joined them with Mercy using the damage stream to give the soldier extra power. The three were overwhelmed, as they can't take them all on. Already, Junkrat was eliminated as his little bombs scattered about. They managed to avoid it as they went back to the attack on Orisa and Bastion. The two bots were trying their best survive with the centaur armoring up while Bastion repaired itself, but it wasn't enough. Their health were decreasing as Downer's team thought that it was going to be over. That was until…
"Pass into the Iris."
Zenyatta managed to make it on time as he used his Transcendence to not only heal him up and the other two. Now both of them have regained all the health that they lost and the tables were turned. Downer watched as they focused their attention on Echo and Mei, who they managed to fallback as the ecologist lifted another ice wall and retreating into the room close by. And then they turned to the other three and showed no mercy. Mercy tries to heal them up, but it won't be enough.
"Damn it! That Zenyatta is making things difficult for us. There's got to be a way to stop them."
Just then, he heard Reinhardt saying out loud.
"Need healing!"
Looking up, he could see that Reinhardt is still going at it with with hammer swings as the pilot fired her bullets and missiles. Both were evenly matched, but the knight's health was lowering. Seeing that and the situation, Downer decided to let Mercy help out the Crusader.
Turning to the two, Downer said to them, "Sorry guys. But Reinhardt needs my help. You're on your own on this one."
With that, he used Mercy's character to spread her wings and flew up to get to the knight. That left with 76 and the engineer getting mauled by the two bots eliminating them in the process. They soon headed to the garage when the payload started to move.
At the same time, Reinhardt was having a hard time keeping the pilot down as she was firing all the projectiles at him and lowering his health. Reinhardt did try to gain some ground with his swings, but it won't be enough to as he was on the verge of death's door. saw his health decreasing and is ready to finish it all off.
"GG!"
She fired all in her arsenal and was about to stop him. But instead of his health decreasing, it was increasing. What has happened is that Mercy arrived in time and managed to heal him up before he was removed completely. Reinhardt knew he still have time as he continued to swing around over and over again. This time, it was whose health has lowered and it would be a matter of time before her own mech would be destroyed. That was until her health was rising and she was regaining health as well. That's because Zenyatta saw what happened and gave her a Harmony orb to patch her up. Downer saw him do that and knew that the monk is the prime target.
"Damn it! We can't get anything done with that bot giving everyone health. There's got to be a way to stop him. But how?"
It was then that he heard Reinhardt saying…
"My Ultimate is ready."
Hearing that, he knew that the swings was giving him his ultimate. Hearing, he knew that maybe there is a chance to take out the healer.
"Okay. You want to use that ultimate, then let's deal with . We just need to just destroy the mech and be done with it. And to do that, we're going to need to make a risk here. You ready?"
With that, he switched the heal to damage on Mercy's staff and told him, "Then charge and take her out!"
Hearing him, Reinhardt went to the charge and speared the pilot into the wall, damaging the mech completely. After a few more swings and increase damage, the mech malfunction and she had to eject out of the mech, destroying it completely. With the pilot landing on the lover level near the payload, she fired her pistol at the two while Orisa, Bastion and Zenyatta joined in by firing bullets and orbs at the two, with the monk using a discord orb on Mercy. Reinhardt place a shield to protect them and Downer saw them react and had to know how to stop them.
"This isn't good. We can't take them down with them firing right at us. There has to be a way to stop them."
As he was thinking about it, he saw someone coming out and said something out loud.
"Freeze! Don't move!"
Turns out it was Mei as she tossed Snowball out and he landed in the middle of the payload. That when the droid lifted upwards and fired a stream of snow at them, catching them by surprise. They tried to escape, but they were frozen and couldn't get out of there. Mei wave to the two as Downer forgot about her and her ultimate.
"Oh! Completely forgot Mei can do that. Let's hit them hard!"
The crusader soon jumped down with Mercy following. In the air, he used his ultimate to bring down the pain.
"Hammer Time!"
He slammed the ground as Mercy added the damage to the impact, knocking them down a peg. They all soon went on the attack with Echo and Mei joining Reinhardt and Mercy and fired everything at them. The medic started by using her pistol to get some headshots to Zenyatta before eliminating the monk before he thawed. With him down, the other two broke free from the ice and they have no healer to help them up. Echo soon threw some sticky bombs to Bastion and in one shot, blew him up in pieces. Now all that's left is Orisa as she was on her own against four. The four fired everything at her with Reinhardt swinging an energy swipe at the centaur. She managed to place a shield down and armored up, but it was only a quick fix compared to what she's up against. At the same time, Soldier 76 and Torbjorn arrived in time and joined in on the attack, firing bullets, rockets, and rivets. With all the combine firepower, Orisa couldn't handle it and she was eliminated completely. With the team gone, the payload stopped mere inches from checkpoint and gaining a point.
Downer gave a deep sigh and said, "Phew… That was close. Just a bit more and they would've gained a point in the process. And with only two and a half minutes left, I bet they would've had two more minutes added. Now all we need to do is keep them from this payload. And judging by the fact that most of them didn't use their ultimates, they would pull out all the stops. We better be ready for them."
So the group went into the defensive and was ready to hold them back. Torbjorn got on the vehicle and place the turret on top as a means for defense with Reinhardt got in front of him and set his shield up. Soldier 76 and Echo got in the front of the payload to act as the first line of defense with Mei between them. And mercy was behind all of them, standing by to give them aid. She even gave the Crusader some health to patch him up with Soldier 76 assisted her with his own healing pack. Once everyone was ready, Downer too a deep breathe and knew that this is going to be a difficult fight.
"Okay… This is it… We need to hold them back as long as possible until the timer is up. Let's hope that they won't cause to many problems."
They waited until the enemy team advances and taking back the payload. It was then they heard Junkrat call out his ultimate.
"Fire in the hole!"
Hearing that, Downer knew they were waiting for this and said, "Here they come."
Already, they could see the Rip Tire coming down and was about to reach them to detonate. 76 and Echo saw it and fired right at it with their arsenal, trying to stop it. The tire swerved left and right to avoid the attacks and was getting closer. That's when Mei stepped in and placed an ice wall, blocking its path. The tire went around the wall and was getting close. But that give Echo an advantage as she placed some sticky bombs on the floor near it. Once the bombs detonate, the tire was hit badly and broke apart. Once the tire is gone, the group had a temporary relief until they heard someone from above.
"Rocket barrage! Incoming!"
Pharrah came up from the sky and used her barrage to rain down hellfire. Reinhardt saw that and used his shield as an umbrella to deflect the bullets. The group soon joined him on top of the payload while Mei used her glacier to save herself. The barrage was enough to badly damage his shielding and would be on the verge of breaking. Once everyone was safe, the group soon got back on the attack and focuses their attention on the flyer. By the time the ice wall thawed, they could see two more people already on the top. Those were Junkrat and Bastion as the two fired at the farthest of angles. Seeing the three, Downer knew that the other three aren't far behind.
"Hmm… Interesting strategy. Use these three as a meat shield while those that matter would have to pull out all the stops. Just need to know where they are located."
Just then, someone was flying high in the air and was coming down. That's when someone ejected out of the mech the bigger piece was glowing green.
"Nerf This!"
Downer looked up with Mercy's character as he could see 's mech coming down and was around to relay the payload, planning to blow them up in the middle. Feeling panicked, he warned everyone on what is coming.
"Oh crap! Everyone! Get to cover now!"
But with little place to hide, they were in some serious trouble. That's when Reinhardt made a huge risk as he place the shield above his head and told everyone…
"Group up with me!"
And with that, everyone quickly got on the payload and was over the shielding. At the same time, the self-destructing mech landed on top of the shield and exploded on impact. But even after a huge explosion, the team survived it and the shield broke apart and they were completely defenseless. Downer took a breather and was glad they survived it.
"Sheesh… Talking about cutting it close. I thought for sure that we're goners." He said with relief, then worry. "Still… This could also be troubling. With Reinhardt's shield gone, it could mean that we will be exposed. And I'm afraid that this team got one more trick up their sleeves."
It was then that he heard the voice of Orisa activating her alt.
"Cease your resistance!"
Hearing that, he saw Orisa arriving at the scene and was with Bastion and Junk Rat as she brought her booster drum down to gives them and extra boost. then came in and got her mech back up, joining the fight as she fired her own arsenal. With the additional boost, they lay waste on the team with their own arsenal. The doctor saw it all go down as he knew they were in trouble.
"Shit! I knew this would happen. We're so dead!"
What she didn't know is that Echo was saving her ultimate as she was ready to initiate it. And she knew whom to pick.
"Adaptive Circuits engaged: Reinhardt."
She soon turned into the exact copy of the crusader and placed her shield, protecting everyone from the assault. Everyone was relieved that they got out of that as Downer breathed deeply.
"At least Echo can be a copy of someone from the team to help aid us. And good thing too. Choosing Reinhardt is a wise choice."
He soon notices her own shield cracking and forgot that Orisa's drum is still active. At the same time, he could hear the voice saying…
"60 seconds remaining."
Hearing that, the doctor knew that it's now or never.
"But we better get that team off our backs in sixty seconds. We can't let them win the game, if not the first point. Let's push them back!" he yelled to everyone.
With that, the group went on the attack as they fired what they got. Reinhardt swung at the second floor walkway and the energy wave approached them. It did hit most of them, but it didn't take them down. That's when Zenyatta arrived and threw harmony orbs as any wounded to bring them back up to proper health. He soon joined on the assault and threw his orbs at them, even charging up to fire them all at the same time. Mei quickly rise another ice wall and protected the team from the charging orbs as Orisa held Reinhardt's shield for as long as possible, even if it's badly damaged. Pharah soon used her concussive blast and pushed the frontal force in multiple directions and separating them. The group soon fired at the three, trying to take them out. The ecologist soon placed a huge glacier to protect herself as the soldier placed a health back down to keep him alive for so long. Soldier 76 and Torbjorn soon fired their bullets and rivets with the engineer maximized his power output and the soldier shooting his mini rockets. soon used her defense matrix to deflect the shots. Once it dissipates she went back to firing her own arsenal. At the same time, Echo's adaptive circuits shut down and she was back to herself, leaving the team completely vulnerable. But the real Reinhardt's shield has been recovered and placed his own shield down to keep them all alive. Everyone was at an even stalemate as the countdown was slowly ticking down.
"30 seconds remaining."
Hearing that, Downer knew that it was now or never as his character was healing as much as possible. With the rockets, bullets, and missiles pouring, he has to help them all out at the same time and with little time to spare. Looking to his ultimate, he could see it fully charged and decided to use it now when they have the chance.
"This is it! The moment we've been waiting for. Time to clean them out and win this game. As Mercy says…"
He soon activated the ultimate and but he and his character said…
"Heroes Never Die!"
"Heroes Never Die!"
With that, Mercy activated her Valkarie system and lifted off the group and pulls all the stops. First she focused on Pharrah, who was too distracted in shooting her teammates. With her pistol out, she fired multiple and unlimited shots at her. The flyer felt that and focus her attention at the healer, firing right at her. Mercy flew with grace and continued to fire. After a few hits, she took the flyer down and she dropped like a rock. Once she took out the aerial assault, she could see someone eliminated Torbjorn and flew down to his aid. Quickly resurrecting him, she soon got her staff out and added a booster to not only him, but also the rest of the team.
"There! You are all boosted up. Now put them on!" he told them all.
With that, she flew up to make sure everyone got a boost. Once everyone was boosted, the team charged in and attacked the upper walkway. Echo flew up high and with limited time, fired sticky bombs across the team while using her beam for further damage. The bombs blew up on them and damaged them considerably. At the same time, few of the bombs got the damage drum and destroyed it, leaving them completely powerless. Orisa soon got her barrier up to protected the team from the onslaught. But it wasn't enough to hold back as it was nearly breaking apart. Mei with her ultimate back on, tossed her droid up high and in a good enough angle. Once she got it placed behind them, it activated the Blizzard and froze them all completely. During that time, Torbjorn soon got that and has his ultimate ready for a big enough attack. With his arm activated, he used his molten core and spread the lava up on the walkway where he was. They were all getting cooked and frozen as their health was diminishing. This in turn led to the weaker ones, like Bastion, Junkrat, and Zenyatta to die early as the remaining two heavies were cut in half.
"10 Seconds remaining."
Downer heard that and knew that they were getting close to winning.
"Keep pushing them back! We're about to win!"
The two heavies thawed out and were in a serious disadvantage. With little seconds remaining, they need to get on the payload to keep pushing forward. So they decided to go all out and get to the payload quickly. For , she used her boosters to keep pushing forward and reaching it while firing her rockets at the engineer's turret. After a few shots, she took it down and landed on the payload, pushing the knight and engineer off it. The moment it reached zero, the Overtime meter appeared and the game was still on. Downer saw that and cursed to himself.
"Damn it! And we were so close too. Everyone, get that mech off the payload! We need to win this game!"
So the group focused their attention at the mech and pilot, trying to keep her off it. At the same time, Orisa saw the distraction and armored up to give a quick charge. Jumping off the walkway, she approached the group and attacked them while they were busy. Mei soon felt that hit and turned to see centaur charging. Quickly, she raises the ice wall to block her path while she healed herself. She soon went back to and fired back at her with the others joining in. The group, all together, took out the mech as the pilot ejected. With her vulnerable, that led to Reinhardt to charge in and pushed her right into the wall, eliminating her completely. Once she was down, the overtime meter started to go down. Seeing that, the doctor knew that they got it.
"That should do it." He said.
Of course, they forgot about Orisa as she came around the ice wall and fired a magnetic ball to the farther end. Once she activated it, the green lines grabbed them and pulled them away from the payload. With them away, she made a mad rush to the vehicle and was about to keep it moving. Mercy, who's ultimate was out, look for the one person to stop her and decided on Solider 76. With her staff aiming at him, he got boosted up and was ready to fight.
"C'mon Soldier 76, Mei, we need to stop her at all costs! Go, go, go!"
The three of them rushed to her and saw stopping her from reaching the payload. At the same time, they could see the rest of the team heading towards them and they need to hurry before they arrive.
"We better make this quick! The reinforcements are arriving and we can't let them join Orisa."
Just as Downer said that, he could see someone blowing by them at full charge. That was Reinhardt as he going to sacrifice himself to stop the others from coming in. With one quick push, he shoved the others out of the way while getting the prime target, Zenyatta, at his sights. Once he got their attention, they focus on him instead and rushed to him.
Downer gave a chuckle and said, "Well… That was random… All right… Let's finish this!"
Together, all three of them went on the attack. Mei started to use her blaster to freeze up Orisa with her icy mist while Soldier 76, with Mercy's damage boost, went on the attack. The Centaur quickly armored up to protect herself just to get closer to the payload. But it didn't matter, as she was huge ice pop just inches to the vehicle. Soldier 76 quickly fired his rockets and bullets in his rifle and took out the remaining health she had. The moment she was down, the overtime meter was gone and the gameplay slowed down. That's when the scoreboard appeared with the tile saying…
"Victory!"
With the scoreboard showing Downer's team with a three and the opposing showing zero. Downer leaned back in the office chair and stretched, knowing that it was over before it started.
"And that's a clean sweep! Man, that was very refreshing. And to think this is the type of game my son enjoys. This is the game for me since it has the one character that is the best medic in the group."
Swiveling his chair around, he soon dreaded on the situation now while the play of the day and match results were showing. "Still…" he started, "This game is only delaying the inevitable. I still have to worry about Kelly's deteriorating condition. Even after playing one round, I still don't have any idea on how to fix what she's going through." He soon sighed and said in defeat, "Maybe the nurse is right. There's no way in curing her illness. I'm pretty much wasting my time with her."
Almost immediately, he realized what he said and shook it off. "No, no, no, no! Don't think like that Downer. You can't give up on her! Not yet! Perhaps a few more rounds can help me focus. Perhaps it can help me get an idea on what to do, let alone find a cure for Kelly. If only Mercy was here, she would know what to do."
He soon swiveled around the chair and was going to go back to the screen. "Oh well… Guess there's nothing I can do but to play along. At least the Mercy in the game is the closest thing I can get out of this."
He turned to the screen and was about to get back to the game. But as he was going to start, he noticed something on the screen and raised an eyebrow.
"Huh…? What's this?" he asked.
Looking at the screen, he noticed a message that says…
'Congratulations Savior1967! You have won 100 matches and eliminated 100 players without dying. Click here to claim your special reward.'
Looking at the computer screen, he rubbed the back of his head and was a little confused.
"That's strange… I never heard of this message before. What is this? And what do they mean as a special reward." Just then, a thought came into his head and came up with a joke, "Let me guess… It's the cure for Kelly's Neuroblastoma?" He soon laughed at the joke and finds that highly unlikely. Still, he was interested to see what this prize is and hovered the mouse cursor to the accept button. "What the hell… Might as well check to see what this reward is. Could be some cheap skin that does nothing special."
He clicked on the button and waited to see what the prize is. But just as he did it, the screen shut off and went completely blank. He blinked and was confused by what just happened.
"Seriously?! Now of all times! You have to cause an unexpected shut down when I have to see what my reward is." He complained.
Looking at the computer sever under his desk, he checked to see what is wrong with it. At the same time, sparks were surrounding the computer and was about to do something unexpectedly.
"Hmm… The server is working properly… The fan is spinning smoothly… There isn't not much of overheating… Everything seems fine to me." He said to himself as he got up to check on the screen. "Maybe it's the computer screen that's been the problem. That thing has been on the fritz from time to time. Might as well unplug and replug it again. I swear that screen always have-"
Almost immediately, a lightning bolt came out of the screen and hit the doctor in the doctor's chest. It soon pushed him out of the chair and to the wall. He soon lifted up in the air while the lights flickered in his office. As he was in the air, his eyes were glowing bright as strange changes were about to start. First of all, his clothes started to deteriorate and disintegrate on his body; even his stethoscope was broken down into nothing and vanished in the either. Soon, Downer was completely naked, showing off her mid fifties body with his flabby gut and flaccid dick was jumping at attention. Even underneath his once clothes, he was a bit of a bear as he had hair pretty much everywhere from his chest to gut, arms to legs, and back to butt, and a full bush around his privates. When the clothes were gone, electricity danced around his body, shifting it to something that would be familiar.
The first thing that happened was that he started to regress in age. His body went back nearly twenty years of his life before settling to thirty-seven as the lightning around him compressed his body. When the regression stopped, the sparks soon started to mold his body into someone he was playing moments ago. First sparks hit every hair on his chest, gut, arms, legs privates, and back, leaving his skin completely smooth. A heavy bolt of electricity hit his gut and slowly decreases it until it is flat and toned. But that didn't mean that the fat disappeared. Instead, it was split and moved to the top and bottom of his body. His top part ballooned on his chest and became a pair of ripe C-cup melons. The bottom part expanded in his rear, giving him a nice looking bubble butt. His hips started to compress as two more bolts hit his sides, giving him childbearing hips and a curvy hourglass. Sparks came down his arms and legs as it lost all of its flabbiness and gained a womanly tone. Spark soon spread to his hands and feet, as they all grew small and dainty with his fingers thin and long and nails growing out of them. His shoulders grew tight and narrow when the lightning hit them, making his body womanlier than man.
His face then got hit by more lightning as the sparks molded his face into someone that he knows about. His gray beard sizzled as it burned off his face and leaved his skin completely bare. Sparks danced around his face as it was molding it to a feminine appearance. Cheekbones flat and high, nose, thin and elegant, lips slightly puffy and mature, and eyes small and exquisite. The small sparks hit his hair and did a serious transition. The bald spot in the back was beginning to fill in and covered up his bare skin. The rest of his hair blew up and descended down to his upper back, going silky and shiny in the process. Then blond locks dominated the salt and pepper variety as it spread from the roots to the tips. The hair soon lifted itself up and tied into spiky short ponytail with cowlick in the front.
Finally, his penis got hit with the bolt of lightning and it soon started to change with the rest of his body. The shaft started to get erect as it hadn't been that active since his early years. But then, it started to shrink into his body as the balls started to deflate to join it. A hole opened and sucked all of them up as the testies went inside out to become ovaries whit the dick and mushroom tip shrunk and thinned into a clit. In a matter of moments, the privates swapped from a penis to a vagina as Downer went from being a he to a she. That in turn led to the doctor becoming his personal Overwatch character in all her nudeness. All she need is something to cover up. And the lightning bolts knew what to do.
The first two bolts hit her chest and waist, creating a skintight bra and panties to cover her nipples and pussy. Then one bolt hit her stomach and spreading across her body up to the back end of her head. When the light faded, it became what appeared to be a nano skin suit to keep her comfortable with a black and faded yellow/orange color in the center. Another bolt hit her chest and spread from her hips to her hands. What appeared next is a white light armor with an orange and black banner in the front and metal extensions across her hips. Light metal gloves connected to it as it go down to her fingers and has some white plating on the top and yellow and back plating on the bottom. Another two bolts hit her legs and she gained a pair of black metal boots that go up her knees. One bolt hit the top of her head above the ponytail and out popped a golden headpiece acting like a halo. A bolt hit her side as a holster appeared with a Caduceus blaster in it. Another bolt hit her opened hand as the Caduceus staff appeared and she instinctively held on to it. But the one thing that was missing is the contraption that makes her the guardian angel. That's when the last bolt hit her back at the Valkarie system appeared with built in wings. Now fully dressed and armed, Downer, or Mercy, is prepared for battle. But it's not over yet.
Two small electric bolts hit the sides of her head and seeped into her brain. That's when the mental changes were starting to kick in. While she still attains her old memories of Downer, new memories of Mercy were entering her mind, including combat, body language, knowledge, and personality. One of the most important factors in that a medical knowledge, as she was gaining almost every piece of medicine and MD information that is decades, if not farther then today. Once the information was entered, the electricity dissipates as she dropped to the floor in one knee, completing the changes.
Taking a breather, Downer groaned and said, "Ow… Vad var det? Some electric surge? Never expected something like that from happening. Jag svar, I couldn't died…?"
But as she said that, she noticed something off about her voice. Rubbing her throat, she sounded more feminine and, Swedish…? But it was bizarre because she only speaks one language and that's it. She even realized that the voice sounded familiar.
"Vanta…" she started to say in confusion, "Is that my voice? It sounds so womanly and…Swedish… That's impossible! Hoger…? I never speak Swedish, let alone any language in general. And why does it sound so familiar? It almost sounds like I'm…"
Slowly realizing it, she slowly turned to the mirror on the wall and got up, slowly approaching it. With the room dark, she couldn't see a thing. So with a lamp next to the mirror, she twist it on to get a better look. With the light on, what she saw shocked her to the core. Standing before her, she didn't see Dr. Jeffery Downer, top medial professional. Instead, all she could see is Mercy, Overwatch's best medical expert. She placed her hands on her face and got an immediate surprise of her life.
"Whoa! Is that Mercy?! Ar det jag?" she said to herself.
That shock soon turned to curiosity as she observed herself in the mirror. Whenever she moves, her image moves and she was showing off her body and staff.
"Wow… I can't believe this is me?" she said as she checked her backside. "Look at this body. It looks exactly like my character in the game."
She soon noticed the Valkarie wings in the back and was curious about. "Hmm… I wonder if these things work." She started to try to flap her wings to see if they can function. After giving a bit of thought, the wings responded and started to get small flaps without extending outwards. Seeing that, she smiled and knew that it did the trick. "Ja. De fungerar."
She soon checked on the staff she was holding and marveled that she was holding it. "And is this my Caduceus staff? Looks slightly heavy then when my character was holding it in the game. Let's see if I can do the things Mercy does in the game."
So backed away and got enough space to do her moves. She started to twirl her staff like a baton dancer and then twists her body around to have the twirling. Amazingly, she was able to perfect the moves that matched her video game character. After a few spinning and twirling, she planted her staff to the ground as it opened up on the top and her wings spread out wide. Looking to the mirror, she was amazed that she could do that.
Gasping, she said while obtaining her pose, "Otrolig! Not only do I have the look, but also the skills to match. I am literally Mercy in body, mind, and soul."
Retracting her wings and the top of the staff, she was still trying to figure out how it happened. "Yet, it still doesn't explain how this happen. How could I turn into Mercy just like that." Rubbing her chin, she was contemplating how she could change instantly without realizing. That's when she remembered what happened before hand. "Sjalvklart! It's the game! It gave me that special prize after a certain criteria. That's what turned me into her."
Looking back at the computer on her desk, she wondered if it was still on. "I better check the game out again. Maybe there's an answer being what happened to me." Approaching the computer, she checked to see if there's a reason behind the changes. But as she looked at the monitor, she found something that might answer her questions. "Huh? Vad ar det har?" she asked herself. In front of her is another message that has appeared after the shocked transformation. It reads…
'To Jeffery Downer (Savior1967),
Thank you for entering our Overwatch Recruitment Program. Created by the Pentagon and Blizzard, this program is used to turn the top players in the Overwatch community into soldier characters based on the game. When choosing your character and playing 100 matches and eliminating 100 players without dying, you are immediately recruited and turned into the very character that you played, complete with the skills and body language. You still have your own memories, but you need to have the body and combat necessary to apply for the job. As for the job itself, it's about a double-sided working environment. Not only will you be in the field protecting our country from terrorists and stopping crime, but also you will be an official mascot for Overwatch in conventions and promotions. Emails will be sent directly to you for either orders from the military, or openings in promotional opportunities. You will be paid for double duty, higher than any job you will have. From all of us from Blizzard, thank you and enjoy your new life protecting the World and promoting our game. We hope to speak to you shortly.
Dev Team'
Skimming through the message, Downer/Mercy look to it and said, "Hmm… Overwatch Recruitment Program… Guess that could explain why I turned into my favorite character in the game. They need the top players to turn them into Overwatch soldiers to both protect the world and promote their game." She soon look down to her body and continued with, "And with this body, I now have the skills and intellect of Mercy in everywhere." Rubbing the temples of her head, she knew she has so much advance knowledge ahead of current medicine and said. "I mean, I have so much medical information that is beyond our own. Medicines, medical treatments, even cures for diseases that doesn't exist in…"
That is when a thought came straight to her. "Vanta lite… Det var allt! Kelly's treatment! I almost forgot about her!"
Indeed, she realized that all this time playing the game and then turning into her character, she completely forgot about what she's trying to accomplish. To find treatment for Kelly's Neuroblastoma and cure her of it. The constant failure all night, making it impossible to fund a solution. It is the reason why he's in his office. To save her.
Rubbing her head, Downer/Mercy sighed and said, "I need to find a cure for Kelly otherwise she's stuck in her condition for the rest of her life. I know that playing Overwatch is one thing, but turning into my favorite medic? That's a whole 'nother story. I don't see why…" But she soon stopped and realized something that she came up with. "Stopp… Jag insag nagot… jag ar Mercy. I have the advance knowledge in treatments that don't exist today. I have answers in the Medic's head that tells me what to do. I… I even have a way to cure Kelly from her cancer. Maybe there's a chance to save her after all. But I need to get to the lab to begin my work. They have what I need to treat Kelly's illness for good."
But she soon turned to the mirror and realized something that could be a problem. "Det finns ett problem. Jag ar inte Downer langre. I'm my own character that I play. If security finds me looking like this, they could kick me out of the hospital for life and I won't save Kelly from her grim condition. There's got to be a way in getting to the lab to prepare the treatment. Men hur?"
She gave it some thought and wondered how to get to the lab without being detected. Looking to the mirror, she looked to herself and then turned her back to see her Valkerie system still attached. Moving her metal wings, she came up with a plan. "Det ar ratt! The Valkerie! I can get out of the office through the window and fly down to the floor where they have the lab to handle treatments and cure. Det ar perfekt! Hmmm…. I wonder if these wings could work on flight."
Turning to the window, she sighed and decided to take the shot. Jaja… It's now or never."
So she went to into her desk and took out her old ID card that has her old face of Downer and approached the window. She soon opened the window and slowly stepped out to see the view of the town. Looking down to the ground, Downer/Mercy realized that it was far down then expected. Gulping she said to herself, "Whoa… Det ar langt ner…" She soon took a deep breath and was ready to take her first flight. Walking close to the edge, she took a deep breath and said, "Okej… Har gar ingenting."
Just like that, she tilted downwards and went off the windowsill, approaching the ground really fast. Falling off the building, she closed her eyes and waited to see if her wings would work. But there was no response and realized that she could be in some serious trouble. Looking back, she told the wings, "C'mon you stupid wings. Flaxa! I got turned into Mercy for a reason. So start flying!" But the system wasn't listening and she looked down at the ground that was getting closer.
"Flyg for helvete! Flyga!" she panicked.
The ground was getting too close and Downer/Mercy knew that she was going to die. Die… That's it! That is what would activate her Valkarie systems. Closing her eyes, she opened them up with a serious look and gave out a huge yell.
"HEROS NEVER DIE!"
Almost instantly, the metal wings started to spread out and administered energy feathers out of the ends. Within moments, she pulled herself up from a few inches from the ground and took off high in the air. She was caught by surprise and was in the air. That shock soon turned adulation and she was cheering in excitement.
"Woo-hoo! Det har ar haftigt! No wonder Mercy loves these wings. Det har ar sa roligt!"
With that, she flew across town and over the houses and streets, shining like a light in the morning. Some of the patrons got caught watching something bright passed by like it was a UFO. Some even took pictures on their phones to show evidence that something is in the sky. But Downer/Mercy didn't care. For the first time in her life, she felt happier, lighter, and freer. However, as much as she wanted to fly around, she has something else to take care of. Something important.
"All right… Den roliga tiden ar over. Let's focus on what I need to do. Cure Kelly."
Quickly doing a 180, she headed straight to the hospital to get to the lab.
In the hallway, the light appeared on the window and shine brightly. Thankfully, the window was opened to let the cool air in, but also let a certain medic went inside as well. Downer/Mercy went through the normal size window to help let her through. Once she was in, the light faded and the wings retracted. Still hanging on to her staff, she looked around the area to see if it's clear. Thankfully, the hallway was empty as it was late and there would be a few nurses and security guards around.
"Bra. No ones here. Just need to get to the lab and create the treatment necessary to cure Kelly. I just hope it has the stuff I need for a treatable medicine." the medic said with hope in her voice.
So Downer/Mercy walked down the hall to approach that lab that handles with medical treatment. Zipping through the hallways and passing nurses and security cameras with her Valkerie system, she made it to the labs and was at the front of the door.
"Har ar det… The treatment lab… Now to find the proper cure to help save Kelly."
Approaching the scanner, she scans her old card with her old male face and it gave her access. The door started to slide open as she entered the lab and scanned for any personnel.
"Hmm… No ones here. An sa lange ar allt bra. Now to find that cure of Kelly and save her from eternal pain." She said as she walked down the lab to see if there's something to help save her patient.
Walking down the sections of beakers and tubes, she looked for something that can help cure the cancer, but didn't find anything.
"Helvete!" she cursed, "No cure for Neuroblastoma. Ar vettigt, a cure like that won't exist in the next couple of decades or so. Savida inte…" Looking to all the beakers and tubes, she stated to notice certain formulas and ingredients needed to cure Neuroblastoma. "Hmmm… I can see certain ingredients on making that said treatment and the amount to make it work. Guess having Mercy's knowledge in medicine and medical treatment does have its benefits. Bast att skynda pa. Kelly is in desperate need of this treatment and fast. Lat oss borja jobba."
So she went right to work and started taking a few beakers containing the certain chemicals and medicine to create that treatment. For a good hour, she carefully measures the amounts necessary and mixes them in the mixer. When she perfected the cure, she poured the contents steadily in an IV bag and looked to her work.
"Dar! Klart. Didn't think it would take this long in perfecting this cure. But I was able to accomplish it." She said with satisfaction in her voice. Looking to the clock on the wall, it was getting close to dawn, as there is an hour of nighttime yet. "Precis i tid osksa. One more hour and it will be daybreak. Have to administer this treatment to her before she could wake up. Hoppas detta fungerar." So she left the lab and exit through the window close by to get to Kelly's room.
A few moments later, Kelly room was dark and she was sleeping peacefully in her bed with the IV drip still attached to her. As she was sleeping, a yellow glow emanated through the windows and caused her to stir a little bit. But she didn't wake up as she turned over, feeling the soar aches in her body. Once the light faded, the window opened and someone stepped into the room. A shadow loomed over her as it proceeded to do something that is impossible, curing an ill-related child. Approaching the empty IV bag, she took it out of holster and uncapped the nozzle. She soon capped the drip with the bag filled with special treatment and placed it back on the holster, ready to make her leave. But before should go do that, she sat next to Kelly and gently brushed bold head of hers, trying to not wake her.
"Shh… There, there, Kelly… Sov gott… By tomorrow you will feel far better then you are. Jag lovar…"
She slowly bent over and gave her a light kiss on the forehead. Kelly squirmed a little more until she felt more at ease. With her still asleep, the person patted her on the head and said in a quiet voice, "Godnatt… Sov gott…"
Getting off the bed, she walked back to the window and spread her wings, launching out of it and closing the window behind her. With yellow glow appeared again and Kelly moved a little more before getting comfortable once more.
Up above the building, Downer/Mercy floated up in the air and looked down at the hospital that she worked in. Now having cured Kelly, there is still something on her mind.
"Well… Det ar allt. Kelly's treated and in time, she can finally move freely without having to deal with constant pain. Though I wish I would be there to see it, I don't know how to explain what I have turned into. Could imagine the reaction. Jaja. It's for the best, jag antar." She soon thought about the opportunity that lay before her now and said to herself, "Hmm… Now this Overwatch Recruitment Program… Seems a bit far-fetched if you ask me. Going on missions while promoting the game, that's a bit redundant. Sedan igen, that program did turn me into the character I played constantly. And I have the knowledge and skills to help in a fight and this body does show how to promote the game. Not to mention I have all of Mercy's knowledge in advance medicine that is decades ahead, if not centuries. So I guess that it won't be a problem giving this program a college try. Jag menar, they can reverse this, hogar? Tiden far avgora."
So she spreads her wings and left the hospital, flying back to her home after a long night. But returning home, there is one more problem to address.
"There is still one thing that I'm worried of the most. How am I going to explain this to my wife and son?"
She flew through he sky, trying to figure out how to talk to her family about it.
Two weeks later…
Weeks later, in town's park, everyone was hanging out their own way as they either went out on a jog, fishing, or playing in the playground. But in that playground, one of the kids was hanging out with the others and she never felt happy in her life. That kid is Kelly as she was going around the obstacle course and loved every minute of it. Two weeks ago, she was suffering through a cancer that would leave her nothing but pain and aguish. But on that night she was mysteriously cured from Neuroblastoma and the medical personnel were baffled as to how that happened. They even discovered that someone switched her usual treatment with a special one that got rid of her cancer and got her moving without the constant pain. And what makes it weird is that no one knows who was responsible. But for Kelly, she knew who did it. Dr. Jeffery Downer. Somehow, he must've pulled through and provided her with the treatment necessary to be rid of the disease. But what's strange is that Downer have not been heard from or seen since that night and the family was keeping quiet over it. He wasn't even there when Kelly left the hospital with her family. She wondered what really happened to him since he was the one who promised on getting her back on her feet. Whatever the case, she was happy that she can walk again and can finally do the things she missed doing.
That's why she's in the park, to play with the kids and go on the playground's equipment. Already, she was different from what happened in the hospital, her raven black hair was growing back and looked like a bob cut and she was wearing a She-Ra shirt, blue jean shorts, and a pair of childish converse. She can now live like a normal girl without the worry of getting sick from cancer.
She was climbing over the monkey bars and finally reached the top of it, trying to come down. The mother saw her do that and was a little worried about her, since it's been weeks since leaving the hospital and she was afraid of any after effects from the treatment.
"Be careful Kelly! I don't want you to fall!" she told her.
Kelly wave to her mother and said back, "Don't worry mom! I'll be fine!"
She soon started to climb down and tried to get on her feet. But just as she was going to do that, she nearly slipped halfway climbing down and landed right on her rear. She soon feels that and started to cry from the pain, especially for her age. The mother saw that happened and went to her fast.
"Kelly!"
She soon headed to her aid and checked on her, while at the same time upset with her.
"Oh Kelly… How many times do I have to tell you to be careful? You just got out of the hospital after getting miraculously cured a few weeks ago. Do you really want to get back to the hospital again after one quick fall?" she scolded her.
Kelly sniffed and rubbed her teary eyes, saying, "I'm sorry, mom. I was just excited that I could finally be out after so long. I guess I still feel like I rushed it all too soon."
The mother sighed and said to her, "Well, at least you are not physically and mentally sick from you illness. That's a good thing. Just wish I know what you broke just now."
What she didn't know is that there's a shadow looming over them and a voice that sounded Switz like.
"Perhaps I could be of assistance."
The mother looked up to see this shadow and could see a woman in her late thirties dressed in a long coat that covered her body all the way down to her legs and blonde hair that is done up in a unique doo with a cowlick on one side. Blinking, she asked this woman, "And who are you?"
The woman shrugged it off and responded with, "Mig? I guess you can say that I'm a medical doctor. Har… Let me check on her for a brief moment."
The mother was hesitant at first, giving that this stranger says she's a doctor. If it were up to her, she would ignore her and head to Kelly's own professional physicist to see what the diagnosis is. But considering that their own doctor is far from reach, she didn't have much of a choice in the matter. Giving a deep sigh, she told her, "Okay… If you want to check on her, be my guest."
The doctor gave a warm smile and said, "Tack… This will only take a moment."
Approaching the hurt girl, she bent down to one knee and rubbed the back of her head.
"Dar, dar… Grat inte… Are you in good hands. Tell, me, what is your name?" she asked Kelly.
The girl whimpered and turned to the stranger that was helping her. But looking at her face, something felt off. She couldn't put her finger on it, but it's her smile. It's almost similar to that of Downer when he was looking after her. Almost identical to a T. Maybe it's just her imagination, but she felt very comfortable with this stranger next to her.
Seeing her, she nodded her head and said back, "K… Kelly."
The woman smiled warmly and responded with, "Duktig flicka. Now, where does it hurt?"
Kelly shrugged and could feel soreness somewhere in her body. That's when she moved and felt it on her rear. "Ow! I think the pain is coming from my butt."
The doctor could see that and said, "Hmm… Jag forstar… Okay then, get up, nice and slowly."
The girl heard her and decided to follow her instruction. Slowly, she started to stand with the help of her mother. She felt a brief pain during the standing, but she can still hold her own. Seeing that, she was impressed and continued with, "Now, slowly walk back and forth to here. Kom nu. We don't have all day."
Kelly listened to her and started to take her first steps. At first, she was wobbly and slouched as she was still feeling pain in the rear. After getting back to her, the doctor looked to her and knew what it was about.
"Interssant…" she said as she looked to the mother. "I can see what's the problem with your daughter, miss. I appears that Kelly must've have soreness in her back end when she landed from the fall. Var sa saker, it's not as serious as it sounds. The bones around her hips and rear are the strongest part of the skeletal structure for kids her age. It leaves a certain soreness from a fall like that. All she needs is an ice pack and some rest as she'll be all right."
The mother looked to her daughter rubbing her but and then back to the nurse, surprised that she assumed that. "Wow… You figured it out just by looking at Kelly, huh? I must say, I'm impressed."
The woman shrugged it off and said, "Vad kan jag saga. I sometimes amaze myself when I do things such as this."
Kelly's mother soon grabbed her daughter by the hand and said to her, "Come on Kelly. Let's head on home and give you an ice pack. I'm sure you need your rest after all that running and playing you did before the fall."
Kelly looked to her mother and said back with, "Okay…"
She soon turned to the woman and said to her, "Thank you so much for looking out for my daughter miss… Erm… I'm sorry… I didn't quite get your name yet."
The doctor laughed a little and told her, "Mitt namn? Why, it's Angela Ziegler. It's really nice to meet you."
The mother looked at her strangely and wondered where she heard that name before. Course what she didn't know is that Ziegler is in fact not only Mercy, a healer from Overwatch, but also the former doctor, Jeffery Downer, the same doctor who was treating Kelly when she was in the hospital. Of course, it was the help of the Overwatch Recruitment Program that not only turned him into the very character he played, but also gave her the knowledge to cure Kelly from her rare disease. Now she was visiting her to see how's she feeling and could tell that she was now full of both energy and life. And when she fell off the Monkey Bars, she decided to check and see if she's fine without saying whom she really is. And yet, Kelly and her mother didn't know who was really in that Switz doctor.
Once the introduction was aside, she said to her, "Okay. Well, thanks again for the help Ms. Ziegler. I'm glad you came otherwise I would've taken her to the doctor far from here." She looked down to her daughter and soon asked her, "Kelly? What do you say to Ms. Ziegler?
Kelly looked up to the doctor and could see that she was like Downer in a way. Kind, caring, and looks out for his patients. Course, she didn't know that that was really Downer in the body of a video game character. Looking into her eyes, she waved to her and said, "Thank you Ms. Ziegler."
Ziegler smiled and said back to her, "You're welcome, my young one. Now, off you go. Farval."
With that, the two walked away and headed out of the park and back to the car. But not before Kelly turned to see her one last time and waved to her with a warm smile, ignoring the pain from her rear. Once the two left the playground, Downer/Angela Ziegler/Mercy turned around and walked away from them, feeling confident that her patient will make it after all.
"Jag maste saga, Kelly seems to be happier then what she had to endure weeks ago. Not too long ago, she had that disease that would cause her torturous pain every time she moves. Now she is free from the pain and living a happier lifestyle thanks to me. If I didn't create that treatment that could cure her, then she would've suffered through the worse when she is older." Looking at her hands, she soon remembered how she was able to get that treatment through and said to herself, "But… Men till vilket pris? All I did was play a video game of my favorite character and I turn into her. It's bad enough that I had to tell my family to keep this a secret, but it's worse that I am stuck like this for the rest of my life. Detta ar frustrerande…" But then she thought about the positive side of being in this body and knew what it could mean. "A andra sidan, I have medical knowledge that is beyond modern medicine. I can cure diseases that are uncurable, treat the sick in ways I can imagine, and save countless lives. Sure, risking your life on dangerous missions is extreme and… Well… Showing off your body just to promote just one game is a bit…uncomfortable. But if it means protecting the sick and making them feel better, then I guess I have to accept it."
As she was thinking about it, she got a buzz in her coat pocket. Digging her hand in, she could see that there was a notification on her phone. Looking at the screen, it turns out that the US government has given her an important mission and they are calling out the entire squad to intervene in the exact location. The medic sighed and knew what it meant.
"Oh well… Plikten kallar. After all…"
She soon went to a good hiding spot and put her phone away. Taking off her trench coat to reveal her Valkarie uniform, she placed her halo headband on and took her staff out of the bushes that she placed earlier to utter her famous words.
"Heroes Never Die!"
She spread her glowing wings up and took off, flying high in the air to join up with her team.
In the car, Kelly was sitting in the back seat, looking out at the window to see the bright blue sky. But as she was looking on, she could see something fly by with glowing wings. Seeing that, she pointed up to that spot and told her mother what she found.
"Mom! Mom! Look! I see an angel flying by! Do you see it?"
The mother was paying attention to the road, not realizing that her daughter just saw.
"Yes, Kelly… I see it… I swear, you got quite the imagination."
Kelly could see she wasn't paying attention and looked back to see this said angel just left.
Course she did see an angel as it was Downer/Mercy who flew in the air and over the car. She soon flew away into the day lit sky as she was heading for her mission with her team. After all, no matter where she goes, there's only one thing she has in mind. To heal the world in order to save it. A guardián Angel.
And that will do it with the sixth recruit. Must admit, this one is far wholesome then the others. I mean, saving ones life so that person could live a better one is something worth mentioning. I mean, there has to be one recruit that could save people based on their qualities, right? Either way, it's nice that I was able to put something like this in this story. Though I would assume most of you want Mercy to be the last character before the big finally. Well, I'm saving that last one for a very specific character and the person that would be recruited. I'm sure most of you would guess who it would be. Still, hope you like this chapter. Stay tune when we go to the next two chapters. That's right. You heard me. There will be two chapters. After all, if Blizzard can transfer Overwatch's content to it's sequel, I will do the same. Please Review. #WherearetheGoodCartoons
