Mirai tiredly dropped into his chair in his office. It had been a long day and he had a feeling that it would only get worse. His head was pounding from the use of his quirk and attempted overuse. Despite knowing it was impossible he had tried and now was suffering for it.
Awata said as she entered with Juzo right behind her, "Mirai you should rest. The reports can wait until tomorrow."
Mirai shook his head and instantly regretted as white hot pain flared. A part of him wanted to reach for his headache relievers in his desk. Not that they would work on quirk use pains unfortunately.
Instead he chose to say, "I can't just leave this. We need to get everything written out while it's still fresh. I also need to check on Izuku. Where is he?"
Awata waved him off, "I sent him to one of the overnight rooms. He looked awful and figured he could use some sleep."
Mirai frowned, "What do you mean he looked awful? He was fine when we left."
"Could have been worry about you, Mirai," replied Juzo, "You haven't had much time to bond to the child. It would make sense that he might have been worried about your health from a hero stand point."
Awata shook her head as she said, "I don't think so. When I went to show him where the overnight rooms were he was staring blankly at his computer. The screen had locked before I got there but whatever he had seen it hurt him."
"Could he as Luck been working with one of the fallen heroes?" Questioned Juzo with a wince.
Mirai thought about it. In all likelihood Izuku probably had been. He vaguely remembered being suspicious of his soul child's actions when he was leaving. In the chaos of the day he had forgotten about what happened.
Izuku had frantically been typing at his computer before Mirai got the call. In the short time he had known the child he realized how calm and collected he was. It took a lot to shake that calmness.
Flashes of fear and anxiety had passed over the child's face he remembered. There were even flashes of self loathing that Mirai couldn't understand. He was only allowed to see a brief amount of the emotions as he had been called to action soon after. When the call came Izuku had met his assessing gaze coolly without the previous emotions. A child should not be able to compartmentalize their emotions like that.
He thought back to the abuse Izuku suffered. That could explain some of it but not all of it. But it didn't explain everything. He felt as if he was missing something important.
Juzo questioned, "Do we know how everyone was able to be organized so quickly? Despite all the destruction Quake made it should have been worse."
Awata added, "You're right. Quake hadn't even started his rampage when we were called up. I heard from some of the Undergrounders that they had someone coordinating in their comms. You don't think?"
Juzo denied, "It wasn't Izuku acting as Luck. I spoke to a few that said the same. There were at least two people coordinating."
"Izuku has that friend though. What's his name? K... Something."
"Kavar," murmured Mirai his golden eyes distant as he thought things over.
Something was tickling at the back of his mind. It should be his instincts screamed yet he was missing it. What was it?
Awata asked drawing him back to the conversation, "Did you know Overhaul was there?"
"Overhaul? Isn't he an Underground Hero? Isn't he in your group chat Mirai"
"Undercover speciality," mused Mirai and then it clicked, "Chisaki wouldn't have come out for just anyone. He certainly wouldn't have gotten involved in such a large scale attack. Not with his identity on the line."
"What are you saying Mirai?"
"I think I need to have a conversation with Chisaki."

With a bag slung over his shoulder Izuku snuck down the halls. He had timed the pacing of Centipeder so that he should have enough time to make it to the entrance. For whatever reason Mirai's sidekick was out roaming the halls. It could be nervous energy. It could be that he was ensuring Izuku didn't run away. No matter which Izuku knew he couldn't stay cooped up tonight. Kavar felt the same and they had agreed to meet in a nearby internet cafe. Kavar had already left needing to take a train to reach him.
Silently he slipped into the stairwell and down several flights of stairs. Halfway down he paused and listened closely. No alarms or running footsteps behind him. It seemed he was in the clear.
Still he was fast and light on his feet as he exited on the ground floor. The lobby appeared to be empty but his instincts were screaming at him. Wait they said. Something isn't right here. It was a good thing he had long since learned to listen to instincts no matter what his eyes said.
After a moment a man came out of the darkness and headed for the elevators. It took Izuku a moment to recognize the man as Chisaki Kai the Pro Hero Overhaul. He was younger looking than the young vigilante expected. If Izuku had to guess he was in his mid to late twenties.
He almost flinched away from the door when the man suddenly looked around with bright eyes. If he didn't know any better Izuku would have thought the man could sense him. That shouldn't be possible. He was hidden and no one knew that he was trying to sneak out.
Several moments passed with Overhaul watching where Izuku hid. The youth felt sweat forming on his brow. He dared not wipe it away as it may give away that there was in fact someone there. When Overhaul finally moved away he let out the breath he was holding.
Only when the elevator closed and was headed up Izuku slipped out of the stairwell and then out into the streets. He had to meet up with Kavar before Mirai or the other heroes realized he was gone.
