With a land that was rather reminiscent of Altissia, Ravus wasn't too sure what to think. It looked so much like the real thing, but it still didn't seem right. Something was different in the air, and Ravus was determined to find out what it was.
"Perhaps this truly is some form of afterlife," he commented as he walked.
He knew that he had died. He was sure of it as his memories didn't let him forget the painful moments the Starscourge corrupted his body, leaving only a faint sense of human consciousness. That small flicker of human mind remained all the way through that fight with Noctis and his retinue.
But if this was an afterlife, where were the others? Where was his sister? His mother? He would even take finding King Regis in this world if it was what he believed it to be. The idea of walking in a place that resembled the city where his sister died haunted him deeply.
There was nothing for him to do except keep moving forward. He was determined to find someone… anyone in this world. Never again was he going to be left alone.
Meanwhile, Luna was walking around the airship, looking out over the view while she waited for others to return. They had to keep moving to find the rest of the groups, since there were still many scattered across the world. But for a moment she looked back the way that they had traveled, and something pulled in her chest.
She stared off into the distance, focusing on that feeling, trying to discover the source. But before she could dive too deeply, she saw Ignis approach her.
"Ahh, Ignis. Is there something you need?"
"Not much, mainly I wished to check on your well being. We have traveled around a lot recently, so I wanted to know how you were keeping up."
Luna smiled. "I'm quite alright, thank you for the consideration, Ignis. It's been a long road since I first joined everyone here, but I've grown used to a lot of it."
"Ah, then I am glad to hear it."
"But there are things I wonder about… I know we sometimes have groups flown back to previous areas to search for items and food. So, I was wondering if we could return to the area that reflects Altissia."
Ignis hummed. "Is there something in particular you wanted from there? Pardon me for asking, but I feel there is more to it than just exploring."
Luna nodded, placing a hand on her heart. "I have a feeling someone is there. Someone recently arrived in this world, and I know them. I can feel it."
"Then I will make plans for us to be taken back there, as well as see if anyone else is available to come along."
"Thank you Ignis. Might I ask that you also accompany me? I would be grateful for your assistance and since you have been with Noctis since his arrival."
Ignis bowed his head. "It would be an honor."
Several minutes later, Ignis returned, followed by two others, one an adult man and the other a young girl.
"Ahh, hello," Luna said as she greeted them with a smile. "If I remember correctly, you are Gabranth and Porom, yes?"
"Indeed. Ignis has told us that you are in need of a group to join you?"
Ignis nodded. "We were planning to go back to the world that reminds us of Altissia. There is something that leads Luna to believe that someone is there and in need of our assistance."
"Well, we would be happy to come along and help!" Porom cheerfully replied.
"Yes, I have nothing against coming along to help," Gabranth added.
"Then I will tell the current one in charge of the ship to bring us around," Ignis stated before he headed off again.
"Thank you, the both of you. I know I haven't been here very long, but you all have shown me much kindness."
When the four arrived, Luna took the lead, bracing her trident in her hand tightly. She focused on what her heart was telling her and started walking in one direction.
Prom ran up to her side, looking up with admiration. "So Lunafreya! I haven't had a chance to talk to you, but I've heard already that you have amazing abilities."
"Why thank you Porom, that's very kind of you."
"You're welcome. Though, while I'm not an Oracle, I am a powerful white mage. So you don't have to worry about me."
"I can believe that. I can see the strength in your eyes."
Porom smiled happily. "So what was it that you wanted to come here for? You said you sensed someone?"
Luna nodded. "Mm, yes that would be correct. And if my feelings are right, they should be…"
She stopped as she looked to the right. Her heartbeat raced as a smile graced her face. "Ravus."
Ignis came up to stand next to her and Porom, adjusting his glasses as they all looked at the man in the distance. "I shouldn't be surprised at this point, but yet again I find myself shocked to see another from our world who I thought had been lost to us."
"And just how is Ravus acquainted?" Gabranth asked.
Luna smiled as age started walking. "My older brother."
She kept walking until he started to notice her. His eyes widened as he slowly moved forwards, nearly staggering and stumbling to the ground.
"Is… is it truly you, Lunafreya?" he asked in desperation.
"Yes, Ravus, it is," she replied cheerfully.
"Then have I truly found you? After searching for so long?" he asked before noticing the others. Soon, his expression changed into something with more confusion. "But Scientia is here as well… Either he too has lost his life too soon… or this isn't the Afterlife."
"This is something beyond our world," Luna explained. She reached out to touch his right arm lightly. "But, we don't have to worry. As long as we stick together, we shall be alright."
Right away, without any warning, Ravus wrapped his arms around Luna, pulling her into a tight hug. "My sister… You are alive. That is all that matters to me. Do you have any burdens on your shoulders here? The Astrals have no involvement?"
"There are deities in this realm, from what I have heard, but I have yet to meet them. But for now, we should return to the ship and reconvice with the other. From there, we can help explain anything you may wonder."
With a heavy sigh, Ravus pulled away from his sister slowly. "If you insist, but this time, I will not let you out of my sight."
Luna shook her head. "I appreciate your care, Ravus, but I am very capable of taking care of myself."
"I don't wish to take the chance. I lost you once, I don't wish to bear that pain again."
Porom quickly walked up between the two and cleared her throat. "Excuse me. I understand how you feel. You're the older brother, and I'm the older sister to my brother! You want to protect her, but she is very strong on her own. But! That doesn't mean you can't stand by her side and help her out still."
Ravus blinked, staring down at the small child talking up to him. "And you are…?"
"Porom!" she said proudly. "But seriously! You don't have to worry too much! We all watch out for each other here. Your sister has been in good hands!"
Ignis then stepped up next. "Yes, I will agree to that. Ravus, I know how much you feel about this, but we can assure you that Luna is safe with us."
Ravus hummed to himself, looking over the small group that now stood before him. His eyes then fell back to his sister, seeing her warm and kind smile. It was enough to make him exhale and nod his head.
"Very well, lead me back to wherever your ship is and explain to me what has happened."
With the rest of the group all nodding in agreement, they turned around, heading back the way they came. Along the way, Luna couldn't help but smile to herself, knowing that her brother was here with her, alive and well just as she was.
It had taken some time to tell Ravus everything they knew, but eventually he seemed to catch on. He stopped asking questions, and started to just nod his head instead.
When Ravus was up to date on the current situation, Ignis and Porom left to attend to other areas of the ship. Luna and Gabranth were left, but the man was staying back by the doorway as the siblings talked, ready to leave at a moment's notice if he felt they needed privacy.
"Ravus, if it's alright with you, I wish to help attend to some chores around the ship. Will you be alright on your own?"
Ravus sighed. "If I must… I think I do need time to process all of this."
Luna stood up, making her way towards the door. "Very well, if you wish to find me, I will be a few levels below."
Ravus said his goodbyes as he watched his sister leave the room. His eyes then shifted to Gabranth who still lingered.
"Do you have duties to attend to as well?" He asked as he stood up.
"None in particular," the man replied.
"Hm…"
Ravus made his way across the room to the window to stare out of it. The ship was currently docked at a different island, with some of the people going out to explore while others stayed back to watch the ship and prepare for when others returned.
After a moment of silence, Ravus finally spoke again. "I've learned much about this world, how those who have passed still may walk amongst others again, but my heart cannot accept this."
"Your words ring true, yet your tone belies a struggle deeper still," Gabranth replied.
Ravus turned his head slowly. "Ah, Gabranth, was it? Forgive me if I speak my mind. No matter how I try to comprehend it, I still struggle to process these impossible events."
The armored man nodded. "Such is the nature of this world, fantastical twined with reality, yet here you ponder something beyond that?"
"I stand here, brought back from death, to once again see my sister. And that leads me to believe I shall see her betrothed in due time. The man whom I sought death upon, until my final moments. To say I am conflicted would be a gross understatement."
Ravus fully turned around now, staring at the man. "That which we share?"
Gabranth gave another nod. "In battle against my brother, was I slain, and yet here again I stand, but shoulder locked with the one I once denounced as a brother."
Ravus's eyes widened with interest and curiosity. "How did it come to that? For brothers to fight and kill each other?"
Gabranth moved into the room, taking a seat at one of the couches. "Long before, we once shared our homeland, but when it was invaded, he fled towards the invader's enemy, yet I took our sickly mother to her home, the people who invaded. Casted name aside, joined forces with foe, and became her Judge Magister. T'would be time before my brother and I crossed paths, as enemies of high rank."
Ravus closed his eyes, humming as he mulled over the new information. "I can see how eerily similar your tale mirrors my own, albeit with a few different factors. Does he still live back in your own world? Your brother?"
"Indeed, and in this world, reconciled our differences and broken bread we have."
Ravus lowered his head, letting out a long sigh. "Do you think the same could be said for me? Not only between me and my sister, but also Noctis?"
With another nod, Gabranth gave his answer. "Of that, I must ask… Do you plan to grasp at your revenge again?"
Ravus lifted his head, starting to pace around the room slightly. "I do not know. In death, I found peace with Noctis fulfilling his destiny. Yet here I stand, unable to bear the thought of facing him again."
"That which you must grasp lies beyond revenge, something greater than despair. These words rang hollow once, but here they ring anew."
Ravus stopped pacing, staring right back at Gabranth. "Beyond revenge…"
"The chains of history bind us to fate, yet here fate stands askew, the chance to change opened."
After a few moments of processing what Gabranth was saying, Ravus nodded his head, smiling slightly. "I understand. Perhaps the reason I am here...is to find reconciliation."
"Scientia," Ravus said, finding the man in the kitchen with Porom. "Is this a bad time?"
"Not at all, Ravus," Ignis replied. "And if you wish, you can help us prepare meals for later."
Ravus shook his head, lifting his one metal arm "No, I fear I wouldn't be much help. This arm was not meant for dealing with cooking or the preparations of meals."
"I understand, but what was it that you wanted?" Ignis asked.
"I… I never got to properly thank you when we were in Altissia."
"There's nothing you need to worry about, Ravus. I only wish I was able to have helped you afterwards, rather than let you run when the Empire announced their propaganda."
"It wouldn't have mattered in the end, I'm sure my fate would have been the same… at the hands of that man."
Ignis pressed his lips together into a fine line. "Ah, Ravus, you should be informed, but please don't be alarmed. But… Ardyn is here, though he seldom joins when many of the others are gathered."
Ravus gritted his teeth. "You mean that murderer is here!? And no one has any cause for alarm!?"
"He's… not what you think," Ignis answered. "Not anymore at least."
"He's kind of weird," Porom said, popping into the conversation suddenly. "But he hasn't done anything bad in a while. He's even helped sometimes in battle."
"And even Luna is not concerned?" Ravus asked, feeling the sudden anger fading slowly.
"I don't believe so. I think she too can see the change in him. And while I can understand that you still may hold resentment, you don't have to be worried if he shows up. But perhaps it would be best if you steered clear of him until you feel that you can be around him without that anger. Gladio is doing much of the same right now."
"Very well… but now for my second question… When will Noctis return?"
"It's hard to say, the groups that venture out all return at different items depending on what they find. Do you wish to speak with him?"
"I would… There is much I still have to say to him. Now given the place that we are in, I feel that we will have the time to make things right."
Ravus found himself wandering down to the lower levels of the ship once he saw more people returning. He had been informed just how many there were, but he still was not ready to mingle with more than just a few at a time. He knew Noctis was probably up there, but he would have to find the proper time to speak with him one on one.
As he wandered the halls, he heard someone coming down the stairs. He paid it no mind as he looked around more, exploring the different rooms that were open to wander into. But, eventually he did end up running into someone else. He was a large-built man, even more than Noctis's bodyguard Gladio was. Though, what was most notable was that he sported a large metal gun on his right arm.
"So you're the new guy, huh?" he asked.
"I suppose I am, unless there has been another who's shown up since my arrival," Ravus answered.
"Hmph, not that I know of. Name's Barret by the way."
"Ravus, though I figure you may have already heard my name from the others," Ravus replied, his eyes drifting back to the man's gun arm.
Barret seemed to take notice of it, chuckling a little. "Guess you are pretty curious, huh? Everyone from the other worlds usually are, especially the ones that don't even have any guns!"
"Hm, I suppose that would cause some to stare out of confusion."
"But you're also no stranger to the concept, aren't you?" Barret said as he gestured to Ravus's arm.
"Our worlds may be cruel with our fate, leading us to need such things. Though I cannot say what your reasons were, mine was due to my own ego," Ravus said as he clenched his protest fist. "I made a choice, and I lost my arm as the consequence."
"I lost my arm against the powers that tried to destroy the planet, but instead of wallowing over what's lost, I thought 'why not make use of it to add some more fire to my firepower'!" Barret said as he held up the gun arm.
The sudden burst of loud energy was a little shocking to Ravus, but he tried to keep himself from wanting to step away. Something he had to learn here was that there would always be someone around to talk to. He would have to try as best as he could to act more social, trying his best to ease into having many other people of all kinds around.
"I see… at least you had motivation. I never wanted this, but the empire had insisted since I was still high rank in their army. I still do despite it greatly."
"Well maybe you need to do something about that! Maybe make it something that screams 'you' instead of this empire! We got plenty of people here, so maybe they can do something to make it work better for you!"
"You mean to say I should have it redesigned to fit my standards? Hm… I've never considered that… Perhaps you have a point."
"As crazy as this world is, we got a lot of things to make it better. Heck, that guy Ignis from your world is one hell of a cook! When he showed up, meals around here really took it to the next level!"
Ravus started to smile. "I have heard that Scientia is an impeccable cook. I suppose I will see it for myself later on. I will admit I am finding myself a little bit peckish."
