Preparing For Battle
Day Seven
The Fentons were invited by Sakura to join her after being summoned by Shutaro Mendo. Though Danny left to train with Lita and her friends he left a duplicate of himself in his place, a fact that only Jazz and Sakura are aware of. They drove together to the Mendo estate, and the Danny-clone is anxious the entire time but Jazz held his hand and promised she would keep him away from Ryoko. They arrived at the estate and found a fleet of military helicopters ready for take off. The largest chopper is by the estate with a group of people in front of it: Sinobu, Inaba, Ran, Rei (tiger-cow form), Ryuunosuke, a floating baby Oni that only the Danny-clone recognized as Ten and Mendo himself.
Sakura and the Fentons stop in-front of the copter and Sakura gets out first, followed by her uncle Cherry. Mendo walks up and greets them.
"Ah, Miss Sakura, I am glad you could join us. We are ready to go now." Mendo says.
"I invited some people to join us." Sakura says and the Fentons get out of their car.
Mendo's eyes narrow on the teenage boy.
"You!"
He draws his katana but before he can do anything else, his own guard places his hand on his shoulder.
"Young master, you have enough lawsuits already."
Mendo grumbles and puts his sword away.
"No thanks to him." Mendo sneers while looking at the slightly shaken Danny-clone.
"Is there a problem young man?" Maddie asks, holding the Danny-clone close to her and Jack glares at the teenage heir.
"Yes, is there a problem?" Jazz says getting into a fighting stance.
"Yes, there is." Mendo says indignantly. "It is because of that not my sister Ryoko is currently in juvenile hall, my father is in prison and my family is on the verge of going bankrupt!"
"You mean because your sister kidnapped me, tortured me and then I helped break the grip she had over that demon that was keeping you guys from facing criminal penalty. Yeah I'm so sorry about that." The Danny-clone says sarcastically.
"Danny, you were kidnapped!?" Maddie asks in shock and horror.
"Don't worry mom, me and Lita saved him." Jazz says. "And I'm sorry Mendo but your sister got what she deserved."
"She was crazy." The Danny-clone says.
"Be that as it may, she did say some nonsense about half-ghosts (whatever that means) but before the Mendo Family was worth four trillion dollars!" Mendo starts sobbing. "Now…we're only worth…$1,000,000." He starts sobbing uncontrollably. "We are going to have to sell most of what assets we have left to our rivals the Mizunokoji just to stay wealthy."
Mendo sobs even more. Jazz and Danny stare at him like "seriously?"
"Wow, that's really terrible." The Danny-clone says sarcastically.
"How will your family get by?" Jazz asks.
Mendo screams to the heavens.
"What did the Mendo Clan do to deserve this!?"
"Well you did fire cannon balls at Ataru on your first day at school." Sinobu says. "And before that you threatened to torture and execute boys who misbehaved in class if you were elected class president."
"Not the girls though!" Mendo states.
"And then there was when your mom and Lums mom started a literal war against each other that destroyed the city because she accidentally killed one of her cows." Sakura says.
"And that time YOU purposely destroyed the city via starting a war with the Mizunokoji." Adds Ryuunosuke.
"The city's consciousness had kidnapped Miss Lum! I was trying to weaken it to rescue her!" Mendo snaps.
"The cities what?" Maddie asks.
The Danny-clone whispers to Jazz: "Sad thing is, I know what he is talking about."
"You've threatened a bunch of people with your katana countless times." Says Inaba.
"When Lum got amnesia you convinced her she was your fiancé." Says Cherry.
"The whole reason you've lost so much money and your father is in jail is because he invested in illegal dealing, cut corners with health and construction regulations, abused your own servants, actually basically anyone of lower class."
"Ok I get it!" Mendo snaps. "But that is why I have summoned you all here now! We will destroy the amnesia device and then I will be hailed as a hero! And be able to woo women again."
"Hooray for you." Jazz says sarcastically.
"Question, why are THEY here?" Jack asks, pointing to Rei and Ten. "They are Oni like that Lum girl!"
"And that one's a kid." Maddie says pointing to Ten.
"We're here because we like this planet." Ten says. "And because we ARE Oni." Ten holds out a small black circular device that looks like a hockey puck and a small remote snapped like a pen. "The device will let me through the forcefield then I can attack this to it. When I press the button it will temporarily disable the field for a few minutes."
"Ok, that will definitely be helpful." Maddie says. "But what about the clones the aliens made of the Sailor Guardians and the ghost boy?"
The fight yesterday had been recorded in the sky by the news team and broadcasted throughout the city.
"Oh, you don't have to worry about them." Ran says. "The clones are near mindless. They only think to follow specific orders. Lum told them to keep their originals away so they won't care about you guys."
"Are you sure?" The Danny-clone asks.
"Positive!" Says Ran. Then she smiles wickedly. "The clone that Rupa made of Lum didn't even flinch as I melted it." She then glances at Jazz. "That was before we met." She reassured her.
"And you melted it how?" The Danny-clone asks.
"Acid, duh." Ran says.
"Oh, yeah. Right."
"I was hoping to run into the clones soon so I can test this on them." Jazz holds out a spray can of Anti-Fungal spray, which specifically says it kills mushrooms. "It's worth a shot."
"Even with the forcefield down and if the clones don't attack, destroying the device won't be easy." Ran says. "Oni technology is very tough."
"I think we can handle it." Maddie says, pulling out one of her blasters along with Jack.
…
The Fentons, the aliens and the Tomobikians are in the main helicopter as the fleet looks around for the amnesia device. Jazz, now wearing a jumpsuit like her mom, presents a pair to Ryuunosuke and Sakura.
"Here, my mom modified the jumpsuits to protect against intense heat."
Ryuunosuke and Sakura turn to each other then back at Jazz.
"Why would we need that?" Sakura asks.
"Because of the- Oh yeah I forgot you're all ANME-gene carriers."
Meanwhile Maddie is working on her blasters with Jack while Ran and Ten watch.
"I thought those were ghost hunting weapons?" Ran asks.
"They are derived from ectoplasm. It's like a ghost blasting another ghost." Jack says.
"They can still cause minor damage if used on a human but we're modifying them to the max." Maddie says. "Tear apart steel max."
"Well just to be safe we brought some weapons too." Ran says gesturing to the box of hand-held laser guns to her side. "Oni tech vs Oni tech."
"I wish Lum hadn't removed the off switch. We could just try to hit it with baseballs and be done." Ten laments as Maddie and Jack put some of the guns into their pockets.
As the Danny-clone is looking outside for the ship and the mushroom clones, Sinobu is whispering to Inaba.
"Can't you just tell them?" She asks.
"I told you, I can't directly go against my bosses. I already broke the rules enough by making sure Danny gets the power up. We just have to let everything happen naturally."
"I don't like lying." Sinobu says.
"We're not lying, we're just playing our parts. If we don't my bosses will just change things more. This will all be over soon I promise." Inaba says. "Just stick to the script."
Mendo addresses his men.
"Have you found it yet?" He asks them.
"Uh, funny you should mention that young master." One of his corps says. "What is it we're looking for again?"
"The amnesia device! How many times do I have to tell you!?" Mendo shouts.
"Geez, that's a long name to remember." Says another corps member.
"These guys are idiots." Jack says to Maddie, who nods.
"And that's my cue." Inaba whispers to Sinobu.
Inaba then addresses the group.
"Umm... I've been wondering for
a while, but what is that?" Inaba then points to the large window to his right where the device is seen flying beside the copter. "It's been flying by our side for a while now."
Everyone turns to his right, Mendo's eyes jump out of his sockets and when the Danny-clone turns, from having been staring out the left window, he smacks his head.
"It's the Memory-Erasing Device!" Shouts Ran.
"Darn it! I was looking for it out the wrong window! STUPID!"
"It's ok Danny-San. We were all too busy to notice." Mendo says, then he yells at his corps. "But where the hell were you guys looking!?"
The corps member shrugs.
"Staring at the radar."
Mendo groans.
"What's important is that we found it." Ryuunosuke says grabbing one of Ran's lasers. "Let's bust that thing up."
"I'll go fly ahead and place the inhibitor on it." Ten says holding the device in his hands. "You guys get ready."
The copter door opens Ten flies out it as the rest of them up on the Mendo winged jet-packs, though Ran helps Rei put his on. All except the Danny-clone who told "his" parents he was afraid of heights, though it is really because he feared the mushroom clone of the real Danny would recognize him, attack and blow his cover. Jack and Maddie understood.
Ten makes his way to the amnesia device. Once it sees Ten coming it recognizes him as an Oni and Lums cousin. It lets down its shield and Ten lands on top of the device's head. There he notices the mushroom clones of Phantom and the sailor guardians on its back sitting cross-legged with blank faces, waiting patiently for when they are needed. They pay no attention to Ten as he places the hockey-puck shaped device on it and presses the pen-shaped device. The inhibitor sends out a pulse which causes the amnesia device to drop its shield. The device's eyes glance to Ten with confusion.
"IT'S DOWN!" Ten shouts.
"Alright let's go!" Shouts Mendo.
The copter opens its hatch and he, Sinobu, Inaba, Sakura, Cherry, Ran, Ryuunosuke, Rei, Jack, Maddie and Jazz all jump out. They fly towards the device with their get packs. The amnesia device notices them and analyzes them. He doesn't seem any of the humans or the Oni and succubus a threat so it refrains from using its weapons or dodging, yet.
They all shoot their lasers at the amnesia device. The Fentons alternate between using the alien lasers and their own ghost blasters, but nothing they do has any effect.
"Not even a scratch!" Jazz shouts.
"No!" Ran shouts. "The Oni must have reinforced the outer shell after tot's last fight!"
Benten and Oyuki fly up to them on the former's air bike.
"What're you doing?" Benten asks.
"What's it look like!?" Jack snaps. "We're trying to destroy the device that YOU activated!"
"So that's the Memory-Erasing Device
whose switch you activated." Oyuki asks.
"Shut up!"
The Danny-clone watches this from the copters window. He is so glad that his real self is currently training as hard as he can with Lita and the others. His ghost sense goes off and when he looks back at the device he notices the mushroom Danny-clone rises up from behind it. Both clones make eye contact with each other and the mushroom clone flies towards him.
"Danny!" Maddie shouts seeing the clone of the ghost boy fly towards her "son".
"I got this mom!" Jazz shouts flying ahead.
Before one clone can reach the other, Jazz flies in-front of it and sprays it with the anti-fungal spray. The mushroom clone stammers back and the flesh on the right side of its face sizzles and blisters, like it has been sprayed by acid. Jazz and the Danny-clone turn to each other in surprise.
"Wow, that actually worked!?" The Danny-clone says. "I gotta remember to tell the real me that!"
The mushroom clone smacks the fan out of Jazz's hands and it falls to the ground below. Jazz then pulls out the Fenton Ghost Peeler and Jazz is covered in the (now Ofuda symbol enhanced) armor. The clone fizzes more when Jazz touches it and then Jazz sends it flying back with a peeler blast. She sends a coy smirk to the Danny-clone who crosses his arms and huffs.
"I gotta get my own suit of armor." He says.
The amnesia device, now getting bored, lowers its extended arm towards the group.
"Look out!" Jazz shouts.
Jack and Maddie pull the strings on their jumpsuits just in time. They become encased in an ecto-energy bubble that protects them from the flames. Everyone else is burnt, but due to either having alien physiology or being ANME-Gene carriers the worst that happens is their skin feels a hot stinging sensation as they slowly float down to the ground due to their damaged packs.
"Dammit!" Mendo shouts as he falls.
The Danny-clone turns to the Mendo Corps with him.
"These are military style helicopters right? Fire at that thing!" He yells at them.
"Oh hey? That's not a bad idea." The corps member says.
Soon the heel opted that the Danny-clone is in turns towards the device. It shoots two missiles at the device as well as fires from its machine guns. All the other helicopters do the same. The amnesia device simply flies out of the way of most of them or it fires the lasers out of its eyes or pulls out its extra extended (normally hidden) robot arms from its sides and causes the missiles to explode before they can reach it. Or he shoots down the helicopters with them. The device then extends the arm that's carrying a bat and spins in a circle very fast creating a small tornado. The copters are either blown away as the device moves around or they are destroyed by the device as its bat swings at it really fast. All the Mendo Corps jump out of their respective copters before they hit, but the Danny-clone has a feeling they wouldn't have been seriously injured anyways. All the corps in his helicopter panic and rush out the opening, grabbing a jet pack along the way.
"See you later kid!" The corps member says before jumping out of the helicopter, which now starts to shake without a proper pilot to fly it besides autopilot.
"The captain is supposed to go down with the ship!" The Danny-clone yells as the pilot jumps out the airlock.
"I'm not a captain, I'm a piloooottttt…." The man says as he falls/flies away.
The Danny-clone sees the spinning top that is the amnesia device heading towards him. He turns into his ghost form then turns intangible. The device destroys the copter but The Danny-clone floats around unharmed.
"Danny! Danny2!?" Jazz asks frantically flying around.
The clone Danny turns visible again and Jazz flies towards him.
"I'm glad you're alright." Jazz says but the clone just takes a t-post with his arms, floats backwards into Jazz's and turns back to human form so Jazz is carrying him.
"Danny!"
"Son!"
Shout the worried voices of Jack and Maddie. They fly through the smoke and they see their daughter safely carrying what they think is her son. They sigh.
"Oh thank goodness. Jazz you saved your brother!" Maddie says relieved.
"The device is still active." The Danny-clone points out.
They see Ten flying away screaming as the amnesia device follows behind him.
"Why's it chasing him now?" Jack asks.
"It's probably after the remote." The Danny-clone says.
"Time for plan B!" Ten shouts as he flies down to the city with the device following him.
…
Moments later, down in the streets of Tomobiki
Ten flies past an array of hundreds of Tanks led at the front by Mendo as the amnesia device floats down to them.
"Go! Go! Mendou Clan Mobile Armored Corps! Move out!" Mendo shouts then once the amnesia device becomes close enough he yells: "FIRE!"
All the tanks shoot at the device. The device just flies out of the way of them, zooms through the air, spins around and drops down to crush a tank under its weight. All the other tanks around it are destroyed by the shockwave as well. The Fentons watch safely from above with horror.
"Gosh, how do you destroy that thing?" Jazz asks.
"And the force field is still inactive." The Danny-clone mutters.
Down below, Mendo looks around at all his demolished tanks and he is enraged.
"How could the Mendou Clan Mobile Armored Corps be defeated just like that?" Mendo asks. He glares at the machine and pulls out a microphone. "This calls for the final option! Mendou
SXR-7000-Tako, come on out!"
The Fentons watch in shock as the very city itself opens from below. Out of it emerges a gigantic robot. It stands as tall as the amnesia device and is built like a samurai. The amnesia device actually registers it as a potential threat.
"He has a robot too!" The Danny-clone shouts.
"Go rich kid!" Jack shouts. "Stay away from my children, but go rich kid!"
Mendo flies up to the robot's shoulder and he laughs.
"Now do you understand the true power of the Mendou Clan?" He asks, the amnesia device. "If an idiotic robot like you can beat me, I'm not Mendo Shutaro!"
The robot holds out a yellow ball with the Mendo family octopus symbol on it. A bomb.
"Let's kick butt!"
The device gets into position and then it throws the bomb at the amnesia device as hard as it can. But as soon as the ball is close enough, the amnesia device hits it with its bat.
Mendo is scared as the ball comes flying back at him. It strikes the robot in its head so hard that it starts cracking all over its body. The robot explodes in a blast bigger than a building, leaving the Fentons shocked and Mendo flying away from the force of the explosion.
"Oh my…" Ten says in dread before the amnesia devices' forcefield comes back on.
The device notices Ten and sends a single eye laser that destroys the remote to the inhibitor before he can press it again. With its enemies destroyed and the remote to the inhibitor gone the amnesia device laughs and flies away. The Fentons float down to join Sinobu and the others on the ground as they dreadfully watch the device leave.
"All we can do now is to depend on Ataru now." Sinobu says.
"No." The Danny-clone says. "Danny Phantom and the others will destroy it next time. I swear it."
…
Day Eight
Ataru is still chasing Lum, and Lum is still flying away sadly.
'Darling, I beg you, just once, say you love me.' Lum thinks to herself as she continues flying away.
Meanwhile, in the mountains by Tomobiki, Danny and the Sailor Guardians are training their hardest. Danny was in full ghost mode and the girls plus Tuxedo-Mask are coming at him with everything they've got. Their goal is to push each other to the limit and improve their reflexes to oncoming attacks. Danny is right in the center of it all, dodging Burning Mandala's and Moon Tiara's, trying to hone in one his hearing when the Aqua Mist is used and learning to bend his ectoplasmic shields around himself and combine it with his strength to repel attacks. Meanwhile, Sailor Mars is learning how to adjust her flames to counter ice attacks. Venus is learning how to use her Love Me Chain to attack multiple Danny's at once before they can attack, and Sailor Jupiter is learning to improve her usage of Flower Hurricane to distract her opponents then attack faster than they can react. The cats were watching the entire time, giving the guardians tips on how to better harness their powers. But most of all, they were trying to help Danny learn better combat moves. Danny was a pretty good hand to hand fighter, with plenty of experience, but they had more formal training. Danny wasn't doing great at first but he proved to be a quick learner.
"Alright kids, water break!" Luna calls.
Danny just got done sparing with Lita. Though Danny could tell she was still holding back, at little, he was now able to atlas put up a decent fight.
"You're getting better, Danny-Kun." Lita says breathing a bit heavier. "I was actually trying."
"Thank you…Lita." Danny says panting more.
"Getting better isn't enough." Artemis says. "You need to get stronger."
"Artemis…" Sailor Moon scolds.
"What? You're all going to go up against clones of yourself. You need to become stronger than ever within the next three days." Artemis says. "Otherwise, you can all forget about each other. And who knows what it's going to do to me and Luna, actual aliens."
"It's ok Artemis, they've got this." Luna says.
"Don't worry," Says Danny. "We got this. And don't worry girls, even if you do forget I promise I will find you all and make you remember."
"But won't you forget all things alien too?" Ami reminds him.
"I mean I will remind you guys that you're the Sailor Guardians." Danny says.
"But if we're reincarnations of aliens and the device makes you forget all things alien, you might forget ever meeting us." Tuxedo-Mask points out as he hugs Sailor Moon close.
"I already had my memories of you guys erased once. I dont wanna go through it again." Says Venus.
"I don't think any of us do." Says Mars.
Danny turns to Sailor Jupiter who is looking at him worried.
"I might forget my friends. And if that isn't bad enough, I might still remember you, but you could forget me." Jupiter looks sad. "I'll be alone again."
Danny floats up to stay eye level with her. He grabs her cheek gently.
"Trust me, I won't forget you." Danny says.
He and Sailor Jupiter smile at each other. They lock eyes and they are about to kiss but…
"Oh, get a room you two." Artemis snaps. "And really? You just met like a week ago! Way too fast! Gonna be planning a wedding next?"
Danny and Jupiter both fluster.
"No, I mean, we're both kinda young for that." Jupiter says.
"Too soon, WAY too soon for that." Danny says.
…
Day Nine
It is sunset. Exactly 24 hours from now the amnesia device will go off if Ataru Moroboshi doesn't grab Lums horns or say he loves her. He chases her down the street despite his tiredness. Elsewhere, Benten, Mendo, Sinobu, Sakura, Kotatsu-Neko, Cherry, Jack, Maddie and the Danny-clone watch Ataru race on the Tv screen from the Organizational Committee tent in the city.
"Ataru looks pretty exhausted." Says Sinobu.
"What a stubborn idiot!" Mendo says.
"Well what about Lum?" The Danny-clone asks. "Yeah sure Ataru is a moron but Lums is the one who brought the device here and won't release the pigs already."
"Danny's right, as much as I think that boy should just say he loves her she's the reason why most of the city is damaged and overrun with mushrooms." Maddie agrees.
"The food supply has run out, too." Cherry complains.
"I know, that's the worst part." Jack moans clenching his belly.
"Well the mushrooms are really Carla's fault…" Benten says.
"And the amnesia device is 50% yours." Jack points out.
"Anyways…I blame both Lum and Moroboshi. They are both stubborn and both do things without thinking. But something is going on with Lum. Even when I've tried reasoning with her she's still being so…obstinate." Benten says. "Normally when she goes too far I can reason with her, but it seems like any time right now I try to talk sense into her an accident either happens that prevents it or she just turns cold. It's like someone's flipping a switch."
Sinobu looks away. Inaba told her exactly who's flipping Lum's switch.
"Well one of those fools better switch back because we only have one day left." Sakura says.
"Before Lita and the others lose their memories and/or the world gets covered in darkness." The Danny-clone mumbles.
He looks around and notices something. Or rather a lack of something.
"Hey where's Jazz?" The Danny-clone asks.
"I saw her and Ryuunosuke earlier." Sinobu says. "Ryuunosuke said that her dad burnt something of hers so she got a copy of that something from me."
"What was it?"
They hear Ryuunosuke's father call out: "Sorry to keep you waiting! How would you like some nice hot takoyaki?!"
They turn around and they see the crazy man running a Hamajaya stand, serving takoyaki (a ball shaped snack composed of a wheat flour based batter and octopus in the middle) to a customer.
"There! It's freshly made!" He serves another customer. "It's Hamajaya's takoyaki, the kind that can even warm the depths of your soul!"
Then Sinobu and the Danny-clone see Jazz and Ryuunosuke approach the stand with a couple of cops beside them.
"Dad!" Ryuunosuke tells to get his attention.
Sinobu smirks at the Danny-clone.
"You're about to see. It's been a long time coming."
Ryuunosuke's father pays no attention to his "sons" attitude.
"Oh, Ryuunosuke. Help me out, will ya? Good job, I see you brought some customers."
"Wait, are you seriously selling food at a time like this!?" Jazz shouts at him.
"Of course, food's low we have a chance to renovate the Hamajaya!" He tells Jazz, not seeing a problem. "Ryuunosuke tell your girlfriend something about business."
Jazz and Ryuunosuke both look disturbed.
"She's not my-!" They both shout at once.
"Ok you know what nevermind. This isn't what we're here for." Ryuunosuke says.
"Is this your father, Miss?" One of the policemen asks.
"Miss? Maybe you should get your eyes checked. You were talking to my son Ryuunosuke, not the girl next to him." Ryuunosuke's father says carelessly serving takoyaki to a customer.
"Ok yeah it's him." The other officer says.
Both policemen barge into the stand and they twist Ryuunosuke's fathers arm behind his back, slapping a pair of handcuffs on him.
"Mr. Fujinami. You are under arrest for child abuse, several charges of assault," the officer peaks into the stand. "and several health code violations."
As the officers drag him outside the stand one of the customers he served dumps his takoyaki.
"What!?" Mr. Fujinami yells in outrage. "Ryuunosuke why? Betrayed by my own son, what's a father to do?"
"I'm your daughter damn it!" Ryuunosuke yells at him. "I've wanted to do this for years but I really wanted to beat you to the ground first!"
"But I helped her realize that you WANT her to do that because that would prove to you that she's a man in your eyes. So she's finally doing it now." Jazz says.
"Jazz told me Lum will release the pigs anyways. But if the device goes off I will end up forgetting Benten. I refuse to forget her but be stuck with you."
Mr. Fujinami smirks at her.
"So you're doing this out of love for a woman?" He asks. "I suppose I didn't completely fail after all."
"You failed big time." Ryuunosuke says. "You don't have a son and even if I did pound you to death you still wouldn't have had one. You have a daughter, one that thanks to you doesn't know how to act like one. I'm going to have to do a lot of work to figure out what kind of person I want to be and how to act like it but I'll only be able to do that when you're gone. And honestly, I don't care what you think of girls, or me. And it doesn't matter if you can get me up, I beat you now."
Mr. Fujinami frowns at her.
"Oh, you break my heart."
"Please you don't have one." Jazz says. "Now, is Rye's mother really dead or did she just leave you? After everything you've put Rye through, just once in your life be honest!"
Mr. Fujinami remains silent. After a while Ryuunosuke scoffs.
"Take him away coppers."
The cops drag Mr. Fujinami away and Jazz pats Ryuunosuke on the back.
"You did good, Rye." She tells her. "So what are you going to do now?" She asks.
"I guess now social services will find my mom. If she's still alive. Or I'll be out with a foster family for a year. But first I better tell Nagisa that we are officially unengaged. By the way, thanks for removing his ghost powers."
"Thank my mom."
"Wait!"
Jazz and Ryuunosuke turn around and they see Mr. Fujinami placed in a cop car. He is looking right at Ryuunosuke with watery eyes.
"Yes. Your mother did leave." He admits. "Her name was Masako. But it pained me that she did, so I acted like she was dead."
Ryuunosuke approaches him as he continues rambling.
"I wanted you not to know her, because I wanted to forget her." He admits. "I wanted to forget her out of shame. Because, like your friend Ataru, I couldn't properly provide for the woman in my life. I couldn't even say those very words to your mother. Those words are so hard to say when you're young."
Now he's actually crying and, despite everything, Ryuunosuke feels a pinch of pity for her father.
"But I can say those words now." Then he screams. "Masako, I love you! O, Ocean... I... LOVE... YOU!"
The ground rumbles and they hear rushing water. Jazz looks up in shock seeing a massive tidal wave emerge from over the buildings and crash down on them.
"WHERE DID THAT COME FROM!? WERE NOT EVEN BY THE OCEAN!" Jazz shouts.
"That's what happens whenever my dad says he loves the sea." Ryuunosuke deadpans.
"WHAT!?"
The wave comes crashing down and everyone on the street gets washed away. The Danny-clone grabs onto Maddie, who grabs onto Jack. Cherry rides the save on a surfboard while eating. And Jazz screams:
"How the heck is this possible!?"
"You fool!" Ryuunosuke yells at her father, who is washed away too.
"I love you!" He yells oblivious to his surroundings.
…
Later that night.
Ataru lays asleep in his bed. Ten comes flying through the window and looks down at him.
"How can you sleep so innocently?" He asks the sleeping Ataru. "Tomorrow's sunset is the deadline for us all."
Ataru doesn't answer in his slumber. Ten continues.
"You know, I tried to help destroy the device. Not because of you or anything but because I like this planet." He half lies. "It didn't work. I told that ghost boy and the cute girls in skirts my mom is gonna call the Oni fleet away. Maybe they can destroy it in time that way. But if not…it'll be the end."
Ten starts to cry now.
"You bullied me all this time...and now that I can forget about you, I feel a hell of a lot better!" He says that but doesn't entirely mean it.
He's so focused on Ataru he doesn't notice his mother watching them through the door.
"The fact that we won't be together anymore ain't gonna make me sad at all! I'm not sad!"
A tear falls from his eyes and lands on Ataru's cheek.
"Goodbye."
Ten flies out the window. Once he's gone Ataru opens his eyes. He feels the tear on his cheek. His mother steps into his room.
"It was Ten." She tells him. "He said that he would be glad to forget you. But he didn't mean it."
Ataru sighs.
"No kidding."
Mrs. Moroboshi walks over and sits down on his bed.
"Listen Ataru. You know I never actually meant it anytime I said I wish I never had you, right?" Mrs. Moroboshi asks. "It's just one of those things you say when you're mad."
"No, I understand that." Ataru says thinking about when he told Lum he hated her in a moment of anger.
"But I do love you, you know that right? You're a fool but you're my fool."
Ataru turns to her wide eyed.
"I think that's the first time I've ever heard you say that."
Mrs. Moroboshi swallows the guilty lump in her throat.
"Can I ask you a question?" Mrs. Moroboshi asks. "You can say 'I love you' to just about any girl on the street you ask for a number but you can't say it to Lum?"
"It would be different if I said it to Lum." Ataru says.
"You would actually mean it." She realizes. "You told Sinobu you loved her when you were dating though, right? You tried to marry her once."
"Yeah, well look how that turned out." Ataru snaps. "As soon as Lum latched onto me she left, even though she knew I wanted to get rid of her then. As soon as Mendo came along she just tossed me aside." He averts his eyes. "It wouldn't have worked out, the marriage, but it still hurts."
Mrs. Moroboshi nods.
"Lum is a bit different, but she's a good girl."
"A part of me just hoped things could stay the way they are. I could chase girls, they would reject me and she would get mad but still be in my life."
"That's kinda selfish to play with her like that." Mrs. Moroboshi says.
Ataru sighs, realizing she's right.
"Even when other girls say no I get a thrill when they do so violently." Ataru admits. "But there's no joy at all lately. They reject me with words not fists. It hurts. Lum doesn't even shock me anymore, but I still miss her."
"I thought you wanted a harem though."
"What man doesn't?" He asks. "You know it's funny though. You know Inaba? Sinobu's new boyfriend?"
Mrs. Moroboshi nods.
"His bosses decide people's destinies. When we first met he took us to where he works and we could see so many possible futures. There was one where I was married to Sinobu, we had a kid while Lum got back with Rei and I worked for Mendo. I hated it. There was another where Rei ended up with Ran, Sinobu never married and Lum married Mendo while I worked for them. I hated that more." Ataru chuckles darkly. "Then, get this. Inaba actually gave us the chance to make our own futures so I made one where I get a harem."
"So that's your fate then?" Mrs. Moroboshi asks.
"No." Says Ataru. "When I entered that future it had every beautiful girl I know, except Lum. That was a big disappointment. Then I overheard my future self lamenting why. To get the money for the harem he made his Lum sell all her things, get a job and sleep outside." He turns dark. "I destroyed that door myself."
"So there is no future where you're still together then?" Mrs. Moroboshi asks, worried.
Ataru sighs.
"There was one door. It showed us getting married."
Mrs. Moroboshi's eyes widened.
"I didn't see my face, but I saw Lums. She was so happy." Ataru's voice turns vulnerable. "His bosses were mad at us, they made every single one of the doors get destroyed so they could make new ones." He sighs deeply. "I tried to save that one. I really did."
"You tried to save the future where you get married. You went into space to get her back. But you can't say three words?"
"I never hear you or dad say it." Ataru points out.
Mrs. Moroboshi is silent for a moment. Her face is unreadable but she stares at him. She just gets up and walks out of the room.
She finds her husband sitting down reading the newspaper. She walks up to him from behind. And takes a deep breath in.
"I love you."
He stops reading the paper and turns to face her.
"What did you say?"
"You need to talk to your son." She tells him. "I know all this is crazy but please try to be a father."
She walks away and Mr. Moroboshi glances at his paper before reluctantly dropping it.
As Ataru thinks about what his mother said he notices his dad sitting next to him. It was so weird seeing his face instead of a newspaper at a time like this.
"It was hard for me to tell your mother I love her too when I was young." Mr. Moroboshi tells his son. "But I did it anyway. And we still love each other."
"How can anyone expect to do that under these conditions?" Ataru asks, pointing to the mushrooms outside. "She says that she doesn't care if it's true, but I don't want her to have that attitude."
"Then maybe tell her THAT."
Mr. Moroboshi gets up and leaves. Ataru groans and slams his head into his pillow. His parents' words ringing in his ears.
…
Day Ten
It is the final day of the game. If nothing changes before sunset on this day, the amnesia device will go off and everyone on earth will forget all things alien. Just about everyone in Tomobiki, human, Yokai and Alien is watching either on the street or on TV.
Ataru faces Lum at the starting line and alum floats several feet away from him. Rupa stands in the middle and he prepares to fire the gun to signal the start of the game. Before he can, Ataru speaks up.
"Wait, hold on a second!"
Lum perks up.
"Darling?" She says, hopeful that he will say what she wants him to say.
Everyone else watches in anticipation. Even Megane and the other Lum Stormtroopers are hopeful that Ataru's finally cracked.

The rabbits create a future where Ataru is still chasing Lum up until sunset.

Tomobiki
"Listen Lum, I can't say what you want me to say under all this pressure." Ataru says. "Just stop this now and we can talk in private."
Everyone watching groans in anger. Lum looks at him hurt and angry. Rupa fires the gun and Lum flies off. Ataru chases after her. As he runs the people around him shout:
"This is Judgment Day!"
"Do something!"
"Give it up!"
"Run quicker!"
"Don't slow down!"

At the Organizational Committee Tent
Jazz shakes her head in disappointment. Next to her are her parents, Sakura, Sinobu, Ryuunosuke and Mendo. On the other side of them are Benten, Oyuki, Ran and Rei. All of them are scared and anxious for what seems likely to happen. Benten and the other aliens fear losing their lives on earth. Ryuunosuke fears losing her best friend. Jazz is saddened by how she wasn't able to help Ataru and now she won't be able to keep her new friends either. Though less sad, Maddie and Jack also weren't looking forward to forgetting all of the things they have learned and the exciting things they've seen since coming to this town. Sakura faces the aliens.
"Benten... Oyuki…Ran... and Rei…I wanted to say just one thing. That I've really come to like you. Even if I were to forget about you after today's sunset, what I feel now is no lie." Sakura says truthfully.
Ryuunosuke, Sinobu and Jazz face them as well.
"Me, too."
"Yeah."
"Same."
The three of them say. All the aliens look saddened themselves. But only Benten speaks, the only thing she can say.
"W... We know that already."
"Wait where's Danny?" Maddie asks. "You would think that HE of all people would be here for this."
"Don't worry mom." Jazz says. "Danny is where he needs to be."
…
The Oni Mothership
Mr. Invader is talking to his sister-in-law on the communicator screen. Beside him is his wife and Ten.
"What? A broken leg?" Mr. Invader asks.
In Oni language, her sister, Lums mother, points out that she's had broken legs before but has never called.
"This one's really bad." Ten's mother says. "Dang pyromancer got me." She fakes moans of pain and her son gives her a thumbs up. "Can you just come see me? Please?"
"We're all the way on earth now." Mr. Invader tells her. "Our daughter and son-in-law are having a lovers spat."
His wife reminds him that they can watch from the broadcast and reminds him that with the modifications and the clones the amnesia device should be safe.
Mr. Invader relents.
"Alright deer." He turns to the rest of the crew. "Alright everyone! We're going home early!"

Tomobiki
From stop one of the tallest mushrooms, Danny Phantom and the Sailor Guardians watch the Oni mothership leave. They watch it until it completely disappears from sight.
"They are gone." Sailor Moon says.
"I must thank you Danny for the information your clone provided us." Sailor Mercury says holding a can of anti-fungal spray.
"So we take out the clones then destroy the device." Says Sailor Mars.
"Sounds easy enough." Says Sailor Venus.
"Nothing we do is ever easy." Says Tuxedo Mask.
"Are you sure about this Danny?" Sailor Jupiter asks her boyfriend.
"Yeah. I'm fine. I'm stronger now. We all are." Danny says mostly confidently.
…
Subspace
"They are going to take on the device again." Says one rabbit.
"The Oni fleet is leaving and they are indeed stronger." Points out another.
"No worries." Says the lead rabbit. "Even if they beat the clones they can't destroy the machine with all its modifications."
…
Tomobiki
Danny touches the charm he got from the soul of Tomobiki in his pocket, making sure it's still there. But he decides not to use it yet.
The sailor guardians and Tuxedo Mask touch their broaches and cane respectively and they fly along with Danny.
As they soar through the air and head towards the amnesia device their clones catch sight of them. The clones leave the device as it continues monitoring Lum and Ataru.
And the final fight begins.
I got done with this chapter early. Now I shall start working on the next and final chapters. We're approaching the end now. Please tell me what you want to see happen next. I have my ideas already but I don't mind some extra inspiration.

pokemon fan 1991: As I said in my notes below, Flynn Fenton is a concept character created by Butch Hartman. But I changed a couple of things for the backstory.
