Chapter 1: A Loki Chapter
June 9th, 2012
Loki scowled as he watched the one who calls herself The Black Widow hand his scepter to that Rumlow idiot; he rolled his bottle green eyes when she told him to be careful unless he wanted his mind scrambled; the fool would more likely stab himself with it then even accidentally get it to work long enough to destroy his mind. Loki was in a bad mood while he watched S.H.E.L.D. and The Avengers walking around the now destroyed Stark Tower; Loki had failed his mission of taking over Midgard. The Mad Titan had sent Loki down to retrieve the tesseract; in return, Thanos was going to give him the earth to rule over, even gave Loki a mind-controlling scepter to help with his goal, not that Loki had any intention of actually handing the tesseract over to Thanos; he was going to turn on him in the end and use all that power to rule Midgard.
At the time, Loki hadn't been in his right mind, not entirely at least; he hadn't been thinking straight, with his jealousy of Thor, his need to have Odin's approval, to keeping all his feelings bottled up for centuries, one thing after another; it was bound to make Loki crack, the final straw had been finding out the secret about his heritage. Odin had kept it from Loki that he was adopted, not Asgardian, but Jotunn and originally from Jotunheim. Loki went a little crazy with anger; his plan to stop Thor from becoming King went better than he imagined when Thor was banished. Then Odin fell into Odinsleep, and Loki became King of Asgard. With him not what you would call sane, Loki killed his biological father Laufey, then tried to take out Jotunheim and was stopped by Thor destroying the Bifrost. When Loki was hanging off the side, he let go, trying to kill himself so all the pain, anger, and secrets would die with him.
Fortunately, Loki had survived his fall into the abyss; unfortunately, what he fell into was much worse than death; first, Loki thought he had found a powerful ally, one that would help him get revenge on Thor, for what? Loki wasn't entirely sure, for his trip through the void didn't help his mental state. He blacked out at some point during it. When he woke up, he was on Sanctuary, an asteroid field inhabited by an alien race called the Chitauri, their leader, a creature called The Other, took him to Thanos; Loki was still feeling angry, and hurt towards Odin, Thor, his stupid friends, and Asgard as a whole, so Loki struck up a deal with The Mad Titan, Loki would get him the tesseract, in exchange, for Midgard, Loki thought what best way to punish his former brother than to rule the planet he swore to protect and loved. Loki started having second thoughts when Thanos had him locked up and tortured before sending him to earth to show what happens if you double-cross him.
That didn't stop Loki from still planning to turn on Thanos and accepting the scepter. He arrived through the tesseract and immediately started killing everyone he saw; not usually Loki's style, but once the scepter was in Loki's hands, his anger turned to pure rage because Loki had been unaware at that time it housed the Mind Stone. Since Loki's mind wasn't at its strongest, the stone could influence him, not controlled like Barton and Selvig, but it fueled Loki's anger, making him act more violently than he usually would. But the stone was also helping Loki; the more he used the scepter and was around it, the more the Mind Stone aligned itself to him, and its influence became less and less, as it started affecting Loki differently by putting the broken pieces of Loki's mind back together, healing him, and making him sane again; with his mind whole, and strong, Loki can now block out The Other, something he would have been able to do before if it hadn't been for his mental break. Then Loki's rage slowly faded away until there was barely any anger left in him; mostly just sadness and disappointment remained.
Loki realized too late just how big of a mistake it was to make a deal with Thanos; if Loki lost or turned on Thanos, he would kill him. If he won and gave Thanos the tesseract, he would become nothing more than Thanos's puppet, and Loki was no one's puppet; he would rather die than spend his life doing someone else's bidding, he no longer cared about ruling Midgard or getting revenge, all Loki wanted now was out of Thanos's reach, and decided the best way to do that was to lose and allow Thor to take him back to Asgard.
So, after purposely losing the war, he raged against this pathetic realm; Loki surrendered and didn't put up a fight when Thor chained him; he was dead either way; Loki knew that he was living his last moments standing here waiting for his fate, Loki could probably get away, knew he could break the chains on his wrist and teleport away, what was the use? Thanos would find him; he'll spend months, maybe even years, being tortured at the hands of Ebony Maw until Thanos gets tired of his screams and ends him; at least with Odin, his death will be a quick, painless beheading. At least with the second option, Loki wouldn't suffer more beforehand; there was always the tiny chance Frigga would talk Odin out of killing him. Then it would be an eternity in the dungeons; death might be better than spending the rest of time locked in a cage. So, yeah, that was Loki's option, torture than death, quick, easy death, or an eternity locked up in the dungeons, none of which was appealing options if Loki was honest with himself; he didn't want to die anymore, and he sure as hel didn't want to become a child of Thanos, so, what else could Loki hope for? And when has Loki ever gotten what he wanted anyway? Thor continuously overshadowed him; Thor had all the friends, all the admirers, all the...No, he can't think this way; it's what led him to his breakdown, and Loki wasn't going through that again.
Besides, Loki had all that once, along with a lover who adored him, one Loki himself still loved; even though there was a war going on, it had been some of the happiest times in Loki's life; they even had a child together. Unfortunately, Loki's biggest worry then was pleasing Odin and getting approval from Odin; due to fear of Odin's reaction, Loki kept his child and lover a secret, abandoning them both, and went back to Asgard, closing off that part of himself and didn't step foot on Midgard again until visiting Thor during his banishment. At least he had a couple of years of happiness once; he should think Frigga for that; he had been on Midgard on a mission for her when it all happened. Though she unknowingly was also why Loki decided to abandon his child and give up the only lover he ever actually loved.
It all started when his mother came to him for a favor; there was unrest and war in the magical community of Midgard; she somehow got Odin to agree to let Loki go down and investigate to find out who this so-called Dark Lord was, stop him and put an end to the war. Odin didn't care, of course, but if Voldemort had succeeded in wiping out what wizards called muggles and muggle-borns, that would have wiped out a large population of Midgard. As the Protector Of The Nine Realms, it would not look good on him, especially when his wife had sworn to protect that magical community.
So, Loki went to the Midgardian magical community, shifted into his female form to help hide his true identity, and used the name Reigna Ikol; Loki discovered a wizard named Albus Dumbledore was the main one behind the group against Voldemort, so Loki went to him, and joined the Order of the Phoenix, posing as a witch from Norway who had heard about Voldemort and wanted to help put a stop to him; within weeks Loki had everyone's trust, was getting Dumbledore information he needed to help stop the Dark Lord, she claimed to have a personal connection within the Death Eaters, Dumbledore respected her not being able to give him a name, but in reality, there was no such person, Loki had been using her shape-shifting to pose as Death Eaters and spy on them.
Loki could have killed Voldemort and all his followers if she wanted, but she was having too much fun being among others like her, being respected and liked; there, she was admired, had friends, and was appreciated, so Loki decided to help end the war and Voldemort and not just kill him quickly and go back to Asgard. She felt too at home in the magical community.
Then Loki met him; he hadn't been at the Order meetings Loki had been at yet because he had been gone on a mission for a couple of months; Loki could tell by how relieved everyone was when he walked into the room, the wizard had been gone longer than expected, and they had feared something happened to him. Still, there he was, barging into the meeting, cheerful and carefree, ignoring the scolding he was getting from his friends and the other Order members; he sat down in the only empty seat which was right next to Loki, propped his feet on the table and started telling some tale-tell about where he had been, over half of which Loki doubted was even true, but she sat there listening to his every word because she couldn't take her eyes off him; Loki had no idea Midgardians could look like gods, but he did, with his aristocratic good looks, a tall, athletic-looking figure, his medium-length silky black hair and his dark grey eyes full of mischief. Once his story was over, he turned to Loki with a flirty smile and a wink, then introduced himself as Sirius Black.
Loki isn't ashamed to admit that she left that night on Sirius Black's arm; she went to his flat and spent the night; it ended up being a thing they did every time there was an order meeting, which was once a week, sometimes twice; two months later, Sirius asked her on an actual date, to sit down and talk to each other over a nice dinner at a fancy muggle restaurant, Loki learned she and Sirius had a lot in common, both family outcasts that was big disappointments to a parent they couldn't please no matter what they did, to Loki that parent was Odin, for Sirius that parent was his mother; Sirius even had a brother favored over him. The only difference was Sirius had given up caring about what his family thought of him a long time ago; Loki, on the other hand, had still been trying too hard to please Odin and make him proud of Loki, something he had only recently given up on, realizing it would never happen.
Loki and Sirius's hookups turned into a real relationship that night after Sirius confessed he liked her a lot and wanted there to be more between them; Loki feeling the same way, had agreed, and the two soon became inseparable, doing everything together, going everywhere together, going on missions together. Loki even attended Lily and James' wedding as Sirius' plus one. Loki should have known better; she knew she would have to go back to Asgard at some point; falling deep for a Midgardian wizard was a bad idea; Frigga had even warned her of such when one day, she appeared in Loki's cottage, and caught the two making out on the sofa; but Loki couldn't help it. How could you not fall in love with Sirius Black? He was the only person Loki said I love you to and sincerely meant it.
Loki had never felt that way about anyone; whether it was man or woman, there was just something about Sirius that made them fall hard for the man, not just his good looks; that's what attracted Loki to him at first, but once she got to know him, his carefree attitude, his love for making mischief, he was talented, powerful, and intelligent, Sirius could get vicious if he had to, especially when dealing with Death Eaters, but of course, Sirius had his sweet side too; he had a habit of spoiling Loki with gifts, whether small like chocolate or expensive like the gold dog head shaped locket, Sirius gave her for their first Christmas together. A locket Loki still has, but it was the books he would give her. Loki loved the most; no other lover had ever gifted them with a book when trying to win over Loki's affection. Sirius Black understood them better than anyone ever did, never tried to change Loki, accepted her, accepted them; Sirius knew Loki was genderfluid and had a male form and didn't care. Sirius has also seen Loki kill Death Eaters for little to no reason and never said a thing because, unknown to anyone else, Sirius did the same thing because he knew, like Loki, that taking out Voldemort's followers would weaken him, not to mention they would kill them if they had the chance, they say you can't fight fire with fire, sometimes you have to, that is a sad part of the war, that Albus Dumbledore never could accept.
Nearly two years into their relationship, Loki discovered she was with child; at first, she was excited; then Frigga's warning rang in her ears, and reality sat in, then excitement turned to panic; Loki had no idea what to do; Odin would be furious if he found out; he thought so little of Midgard and thought so highly of Asgard, and the image of the royal family, Loki having a bastard child would be bad enough, but to add Loki being the mother, then add the father being a Midgardian; what if Odin went as far as killing Sirius or their child? In fear, Loki kept it a secret from everyone, even her beloved Sirius, until she started showing and knew she couldn't stay or risk being found out, so she left Sirius without a word or explanation and hid away for the rest of her pregnancy. When it came time to give birth, she was frightened, in extreme pain, and alone; thankfully, everything went as it should, and after giving herself three days to recover, she took her son and snuck into Sirius's flat, then left him, along with a few things the baby would need, and a note, explaining the baby was their son, and that she couldn't keep him, and please don't hate her.
Loki then went back to Asgard, shut herself up in her room, and cried; she refused to come out for a long time, not talking to anyone, only opening her door to get food servants left in front of it, the food she barely touched, more than a year passed on Midgard, when Frigga slipped a note under her door, telling her Voldemort was defeated Midgard was safe, Frigga thought she'd like to know, Frigga never explained how or who defeated Voldemort and Loki never asked. He had shifted back to his male form and finally left his chambers that next day; his mourning had gained him no sympathy in Odin's eyes, and he seemed to have lost what little respect he had for Loki, for what Odin assumed was locking himself away and pouting like an infant for a ridiculous amount of time.
Loki, still grieving but hiding it well, lived in Thor's shadow and overlooked; all that jealousy and hurt turned to hate and anger over time until it all spilled out when he learned of his true heritage. All those bottled-up hidden emotions were unsuitable for anyone; it was only a matter of time before it ended badly. Loki's slight breach into madness had been the result.
Loki didn't even know if Sirius survived the war; if he did, was he still alive today? Is their son happy and healthy? Who did he take after? Did he look like Loki or Sirius? What did Sirius name him? He doesn't know how much time has passed since time works differently on Midgard. Loki stopped keeping Midgard time years ago; Loki could find out. It would be nice to know how he and Sirius were if Sirius would forgive him, he probably wouldn't take him back, but at least Loki could meet his child. Perhaps have a relationship with him; the boy deserved to know where he came from; Loki didn't have to die or be locked up in the dungeons; he had another option, go back to the world that had accepted Loki as one of their own.
"No use crying now, Reindeer Games, you've lost, and big brother is taking you back to face daddy's punishment." Tony Stark said, walking up to Loki, frowning. Loki reached up and wiped his eyes, and sure enough, he had let some tears fall.
"Tell me, Stark," Loki said, turning his attention to him, "What year is it here on Midgard?"
"What?" Stark demanded, looking confused; Loki rolled his eyes. Honestly, wasn't he supposed to be a genius? Loki also knew Stark was supposed to be a playboy, loved by most women, something Loki decided had to be because of his money; he did not find Stark attractive at all and couldn't see where anyone else would either, not to mention his arrogant I'm better than the universe attitude was a big turn off.
"The year, Stark, what is it?" Loki demanded, "I've been to this realm before; I know you keep track here, have calendars, and have a holiday dedicated to celebrating the year's passing. So, tell me, Stark, what bloody year is it?"
"2012," Romanoff answered, walking up to them. "June 9th, 2012, to be exact; why?" She crossed her arms and looked at him suspiciously.
Loki turned away from her, ignoring her question; it had been, what year? 1999 when she gave birth to her son, Loki didn't even name him because it would have made her more attached and more challenging to give him to his father.
"It's been nearly thirteen years," Loki mumbled; his son will become a teenager soon, on the Midgardian day of July 31st; Loki has missed so much time with him, and no doubt Sirius has moved on without him; his baby boy might even call someone else Mother, Loki felt anger at just the thought. He will kill the woman who dares call herself his son's mother.
"What has?" Romanoff demanded, still wearing that suspicious look.
"That's none of your concern." Loki snarled; no way he was telling any of them; they'll probably seek his son and Sirius out; no best to keep it to himself; after all, once he escaped, he didn't need them to know where to come to look. What better place to hide than the wizarding world? A place with so much magic and enchantments it's even hidden from Heimdall's gaze. No one should be able to find him there, not even Thanos.
"Calm yourself, brother," Thor demanded, walking up to Loki and grabbing his arm; he didn't care if he was chained; Loki was going to get away once they went outside; he just needed to figure out a way to get Thor to let go of his arm, then Loki could teleport to Britain.
"On my way to coordinate search and rescue," Steve Rogers said into his earpieces as he walked past; Loki rolled his eyes and shifted into Rogers.
"On my way to coordinate search-and-rescue." Loki mocked, then turned to Thor as he shifted back. "Honestly, how can you stomach..." Thor covered Loki's mouth with a muzzle stopping his rant.
"Shut up," Thor demanded, gripping his arm tighter as he led Loki into the elevator with Tony Stark, Natasha Romanoff, Clint Barton, and a couple of agents; when the Hulk tried to get on, Stark and Thor lifted their hands. "Whoa! Whoa! Whoa!"
"What are you thinking? Maximum occupancy reached." Stark replied.
"Take the stairs," Thor ordered, and Loki couldn't help himself; he raised his hand and gave a little wave.
"Yes, what Thor said," Stark said, closing the doors and taking the elevator down; they stepped out and went down a small hall into a lobby, and as they made it to the doors, Loki was getting ready to pull his arm away from Thor, when an older guy in a suit leading a group of agents came walking up to them.
"May I ask where you are going?" The suit guy demanded.
"A bit of lunch then, Asgard, " Thor answered, "I'm sorry, you are..?"
"Alexander Pierce. He's the man above the folks behind Fury." Tony answered.
"Oh," Thor replied.
"My friends call me Mr. Secretary. I will have to ask you to turn over that prisoner." Pierce said.
"Loki will be answering to Odin himself," Thor said; Loki rolled his eyes; nope, guess again, Thor, he thought. The only person he will answer to is Sirius Black, and not for invading New York.
"No, he's going to answer to us. Odin can have what's left. And I'm going to need you to hand over that case. That's been S.H.I.E.D property for over seventy years." He reached for the case the tesseract was in that Stark was carrying, but Stark didn't give it to him. Instead, he tightened his grip and held up his other hand.
"Now, wait a minute," Stark replied; then, to Loki's bewilderment, the two grown men started playing tug of war with the silver briefcase, pulling it back and forth for a good minute. Behind them, Hulk suddenly came busting out of a door that led to the stairway, screaming about hating stairs; the sudden bang and yells made both men jump in surprise, which made the case fly out of their hands and into the air where it slammed down on the ground along its side and busted open, the tesseract flew out sliding across the floor. Stopping right next to Loki's foot, Loki looked down at it, surprised, then back up at the others; all of them, even Thor, had worried looks on their faces and holding up both hands pleading with Loki not to do anything, too afraid to move toward the cube, worried Loki would pick it up and disappear.
"Stay right where you are," Pierce demanded; Loki smirked behind his muzzle, looked down at his hands, and green magic swirled around the cuffs and chains, and they disappeared within seconds. Then Loki quickly picked up the tesseract and tossed it up and down, and then from hand to hand, teasing them a little with it, then held the tesseract in one hand as he reached up and removed the muzzle, making it disappear also.
"Hang on; you could have gotten out of those at any time?" Barton demanded, looking bewildered. "Why didn't you?"
"Until now, I was planning to allow Thor to take me back to Asgard." Loki shrugged, looking at the tesseract. "I've changed my mind about that." His smirk grew at the bewildered look the Midgardians were giving him. "What? You didn't think you defeated me on your own accord, did you? That's adorable. No, my friends, you defeated me because I allowed it."
"We aren't your friends," Barton said.
"Allowed us, my ass," Stark added. "You're full of shit; we beat you on our own."
"Brother, do not do anything stupid," Thor commanded, slowly stepping forward. Loki rolled his eyes and sidestepped out of Thor's reach.
"Loki, hand it over." Romanoff demanded, "Haven't you done enough?" Loki raised an eyebrow, then grinned.
"No, I do not think I have," Loki replied, tossing the tesseract and then catching it. "Looks like I'm not going to be facing punishment from either you Midgardians or Odin himself."
Loki was about to use the tesseract to take him to London but paused. Did he want to take this thing? It was a powerful object, but could it lure Thanos to him? Apart from seeing Sirius and their child, the reason for returning there was to hide; he didn't want to put himself, Sirius, or their son in danger. Then again, it is a powerful object, holding an Infinity Stone inside it, and it would be a quicker and easier way to get to Britain than teleporting across the planet; he could use it to teleport all three away if Thanos was to find him somehow, perhaps maybe he should find his scepter and take that too. Keep them both out of Thanos's reach for as long as possible. Without it, unless Thanos got lucky and found another stone, it was doubtful he would find Loki, especially in the wizarding world.
Then another thought hit him; this was another chance he had at getting everything he ever wanted; Loki could get Sirius back, have a relationship with his son, and have a place to rule. The wizardry world value those who have power, the more powerful, the more respect you hold; Reigna Ikol had already made a name for herself among the wizards; the closest thing to a King in the wizarding world was the Minister of Magic; at the end that's what Loki will become, he'll win Sirius back, get their son to love him, have a family that cares about him then rule over the wizard community. He, Sirius, and their son would be like royalty; maybe Loki still had a chance at happiness.
"Brother, you are in enough trouble as it is," Thor replied, "Give me back the tesseract. You do not need it. You need instead to go back to Asgard, back to where you belong."
"You know, Thor, for once, you are right," Loki replied, tossing the tesseract again and then catching it.
"I am?" Thor demanded; Loki grinned.
"Yes, I need to go back to where I belong," Loki replied; Thor looked at him suspiciously; Loki smirked and held the tesseract out in front of him with both hands.
"Loki, no," Thor said.
"Farewell, Brother," Loki replied, "Give Mother my love,"
Blue light swirled Loki, and he disappeared into it; he reappeared in front of an elevator that opened seconds later, the S.H.I.E.L.D. agent called Rumlow came walking out carrying a long silver case he knew had his scepter in it, and behind him was a hand full of agents, along with a Jasper Sitwell. Without a word, he blasted Rumlow with magic sending him flying back into the elevator, knocking down everyone with him; smirking, Loki took a couple of steps forward and picked up the case where it fell; the only one still on their feet was Sitwell, who was staring at Loki with fear on his face. Loki was suspicious of this group of agents; he was sure they were more than they seemed, but that was for the Avengers and Thor to deal with; he had more important things to do.
"Hullo," Loki said to Sitwell, giving him a little wave; the man looked even more frightened; Loki could get used to that.
"Loki, stop!" Thor's voice rang out as the rest of the Avengers came running up behind him. Loki rolled his eyes with an annoyed sigh.
"See what I've had to put up with all my life?" Loki asked, "And they wonder why I turned out evil."
Loki turned around and grinned at Thor as he raised his hand, holding the case with his scepter, and waved with three fingers, Loki's way of teasing them that he had it back before making it disappear.
"Move one inch, and I have an arrow that'll go right between your eyes," Barton said; Loki laughed.
"Boo," Loki said as he stumped his foot at Barton, who let loose the arrow pointing at Loki, who moved slightly to avoid it; behind Loki, Sitwell cried out, and Loki glanced briefly at him before turning his eyes back on the Avengers, the arrow had barely glazed Sitwell's arm, mostly ripping a hole in his suit sleeve and the shirt he wore under it.
"Oops, sorry," Barton said, looking as if he wanted to laugh; Sitwell wasn't the only one experiencing a little pain right now, as the elevator doors kept trying to close only to hit Rumlow's legs and pop back open, the man himself still knocked out thanks to Loki, who could only imagine the bruises and possibly more Rumlow's legs would have later.
"Loki, you stay right there," Stark ordered, holding his palm out, which now had his Iron Man glove on it; then he told Jarvis to hold the elevator doors open.
"Oh, I would not bother," Loki spoke up. "Rumlow, there is not truly on your side; none back there are."
"What are you talking about?" Rogers demanded.
"There is something off about them," Loki replied, "Do you not feel it or see it? They are bad guys, and I should know; after all, aren't I the villain in our little war?"
"A little war?" Stark demanded, "You call killing dozens of people and destroying New You city a little war?"
"My brother is just trying to play with your heads." Thor guessed. "Do not listen to him."
"Suit yourselves, but when they turn on you, you can not say I didn't warn you," Loki said, then held his free hand up, pointing backward, and shot a blast of magic at Sitwell, who had been trying to sneak up on Loki. "See, why else would he try to shut me up?"
"Because you are the bad guy," Romanoff said. "As you just pointed out yourself. And Thor has already warned us about your lies."
"My dear sweet Black Widow." Loki grinned, "The best lies are spoken with the truth."
"That doesn't make sense," Stark said. Loki laughed.
"And you call yourself a genius." Loki knew Stark was brilliant; he wouldn't have been able to make that Iron Man suit otherwise, but one thing an arrogant genius like him hated was looking stupid, and pissing off Stark was the best amusement Loki's had all week.
"It wouldn't hurt looking into it," Rogers replied; he understood what Loki meant, and now that Loki mentioned it, those guys seemed a little off to him also.
"Finally, one of you shows they have brains," Loki said, then looked right at Rogers and winked, "You know, Captain, I think you will be the one I miss the most."
"Are you...flirting with Capsicle?" Stark demanded, both eyebrows raising; Loki merely shrugged in answer.
"Stop gaming, brother," Thor demanded; at that moment, Pierce and the people with him came running towards him, the guards with guns pointing at Loki.
"I guess that is my cue," Loki said, "You gentlemen...and lady." Loki nodded at Romanoff. "Have a nice day." And before anyone could move, Loki disappeared again into the blue light of the tesseract, this time going to the new life he was hoping to make for himself.
AN There is Loki's escape and who Harry's father is; I've read all kinds of fanfic where some other than James Potter was Harry's dad, and never have I seen one where the writer made Sirius Harry's dad and thought, why not, that was different, and Loki and Sirius make a good couple I believe. However, though they will be friendly toward and flirt with each other a little, their relationship being rekindled will be a little slow, but not too slow.
I hope it wasn't too confusing switching from calling Loki him to her, depending on which form they were in at the time. Next chapter, in Sirius's POV, mostly his thoughts and POV of what happened, you'll also learn what happened after Loki abandoned Harry with him; it should be up in the next couple of days.
