In the vast reaches of time and space, there are two different but similar dimensions.
First, you have the magical kingdom of Mewni, a land divided into many neighboring kingdoms.
One of those kingdoms, the Butterfly Castle, happens to be where the Butterfly Family rules over.
The kingdoms' rulers, Queen Moon Butterfly and King River Butterfly are the ones who currently rule over the land.
And their daughter, the Princess, was...
"Me! Oh that's totally me!"
"Star Butterfly!"
What the... Star? When did I say you were narrating this story?
"Like, right now? Come on, can't a girl have a little fun?"
"I mean, it's just the Prologue!"
Fine, fine. I guess a little 'fun' wouldn't hurt.
"Yes, yes, yes! Okay, here we go..."
"Ahem!"
Far, far, away in a magical land called Mewni, lived a princess...
…Star Butterfly.
That would be me!
So... people have kind of called me reckless and irresponsible over the years, and that's because...
I fight monsters!
And tame wild unicorns!
I like to just have fun!
And I'm about to have even more fun, because it'll be my sixteenth birthday!
…
Wait, sixteenth?
Hey, narrator?! Am I getting this right? I thought I was fourteen?
"Well... I had to change some things to make it... work?"
That's not going to make any sense!
"Now do you see why I needed to narrate?"
That doesn't tell me why I suddenly got two years older!
"If you hadn't taken over, then it would've been explained, Star."
Then explain it!
"So that means I'm narrating from now on?"
Sure, sure... but you better explain it before you get a Narwhal Blast!
"Of course, of course. No need to get hasty... ahem!"
So the princess of Mewni, Star Butterfly, would be soon in high spirits due to it being her sixteenth birthday.
On this day, she would get a family heirloom passed on through all generations of the Butterfly Family...
The Royal Magic Wand.
Normally, Star would've gotten the wand when she turned fourteen, but Queen Moon felt that she just wasn't ready for the responsibility.
But even still, Moon still had her worries...
In the next dimension, was the land of Halkeginia that also held other kingdoms.
One of which, was the kingdom of Tristain ruled over by princess Henrietta de Tristain.
Inside the kingdom itself, there was a school which students from many different backgrounds learned the art of magic at the Tristain Academy of Magic.
One student in particular was Louise de la Vallière.
Louise was a very 'special' student, but not in the good kind.
Being labled as Louise the Zero, the sixteen year old girl had difficulty in casting magic.
Most times, it would 'literally' just explode in her face.
Despite all hardships, Louise never gave up as she held high scores in the 'academic' side of school life.
And coming up, she would prove her all in the Familiar Summoning Ceremony...
"Yee-ha!"
Riding a magical unicorn through the forest, Star Butterfly was very excited about today. For, on this day, her families greatest treasure would be passed down onto her – The Royal Magical Wand.
Star had many amazing ideas for spells – Narwhal Blast, Cupcake Blast, Blast Blast... a whole lot of blasts! There would be so much fun to be had with a magical wand!
Though she was happy to finally get the wand, she was also a little annoyed that she had to wait a couple extra years before she was deemed 'ready' for it. It was said by 'tradition' that she'd get it when she was fourteen, but her Mom decided against it.
"You may have delayed the inevitable, but you will not delay the magical!" Star exclaimed as she sped her steed into the Butterfly Castle before crashing into the thrown room. While everyone including her parents were slightly panicked, star dismounted the unicorn just as it crashed through the wall where her parents were.
Both Moon and River steadied themselves as Star waited with bated breath... and a bit of self hyperventilating.
"Moon Pie, are you sure she's ready?" River whispered to his wife.
"River, I've delayed this two years too long..." Moon whispered back. "It's either now or never." The Queen took a short breath before addressing her awaiting daughter.
"Now, Star... this wand, as I've told you before, is-"
"Yes, yes, big responsibility... evil forces... yada, yada yada... it's super important." Star droned on before putting on a big smile. "Mom, I think with the two years I've gained, I think I'm ALL the responsible I can be."
Moon sighed before holding out the wand to her daughter. "If you're aware, then it would be rude of me to keep you waiting."
"Yes!" Yanking the wand out of her mother's hands, the wand itself transformed to accommodate it's new-found user – light purple with white wings attached to the grip and the bell of the wand holding a blue circle with a gold star and pink hearts surrounding the crystal star inside. Star looked at her wand with heartfelt eyes before giving a shrug. "And don't worry Mom. I'm pretty sure I can handle it."
"She can't handle it."
Watching their daughter slowly walking away after having conjured a flaming rainbow, of all things possible, both Moon and River were exhausted as they heard the screams of people in the distance.
"See, River?" Taking a seat onto the royal bed, Moon put her hands to her face. "This is the whole reason why I changed tradition by giving her an extra two years. She can't control her magic."
"I can see that..." River took a seat beside her 'Moon Pie' as he too didn't know what they could do at this point.
"You think we should just send her to Saint Olga's?" Moon asked her husband with furrowed brows.
"What, heavens no!" River dejected the idea. "Our daughter isn't a wayward princess! It's just her magic is a little... chaotic is all dear..."
"What options do we have left then? Another two years? Even I don't think our daughter would even be 'mature' enough by that point let alone at sixteen years of age."
"You're right... there's got to be something where she we can get our little Honey Pie to have better control."
"That's..." It was at that moment when Moon got a brilliant idea. "I think I might know how to fix this."
"What would that be dear?" River asked with hope in his eyes but didn't account for what Moon had in mind.
Meanwhile at the Tristain Magical Academy...
"This is pointless..."
Louise de la Vallière was not in the best of moods. Having to listen to the lecture Mrs. Chevreuse was giving on transfusion magic was going to give her a mental illness the more she had to listen. She already knew how to use the spell, but given the fact that her magic was almost a fluke or as others have called her – Zero – she felt her time was better writing notes in her journal on how to fix it.
Besides, the Familiar Summoning Ceremony was coming up soon, so that would be the best opportunity to prove to everyone at the school that she was more then just a Zero. She hoped for a griffon, a dragon, … better yet a divine being that would cure her magical curse!
Whatever the result would be, she'd be ready for it.
"You there."
"Hm?" Louise looked down to see that the teacher was looking toward her direction.
"Louise, am I correct?" Mrs. Chevreuse asked.
"Yes ma'm." Louise answered before standing up at attention. It was best to keep things formal – she was a Vallière after all.
"Would you like to demonstrate the transfusion spell?"
Louise was just about ready to decline before she heard her other classmates whispering about not wanting to do perform the spell. Things like... 'not the best fit'... 'it'd be dangerous'... 'please don't pick her'... it made it seem like they expected her to fail.
So that's how it is... I'll show you all!
"I'll do it."
The students gasped as Louise made her way down the steps over to the front of the class where Mrs. Chevreuse was. As students either hid, left, or panicked... the teacher looked back to Louise.
"Alright, so strongly imagine the kind of metal you want to create."
"Yes." Bringing up her wand, Louise brought her wand to the rocks and began casting the spell. "Lel, in, yan." In a bright rainbow light, the rocks shined before...
"She's definitely not ready..."
A fellow classmate of Louise, Kirche von Zerbst, sighed as she looked at the damage Louise had done with her 'spell'. "Still a Zero..."
Louise herself looked at her torn clothes after the explosion her mistake of a spell had caused. Her teacher, Mrs. Chevreuse, was lying down and unconscious due to not having expected the spell to blow up like it did.
But this is what happened when it came to Louise the Zero.
I only hope the Summoning of Familiars will be different...
If only Louise knew what was bound to come in the near future.
