Sokolov froze upon hearing a voice behind her. She slowly turned around to face the owner of the voice. Now, in front of her is another fairy dressed in blue and white with a nice tan skin and wings made of ice.

?: Huh, I just got deja vu. I swear I met someone like this before.

Sokolov: Miss, I don't mean much trouble but I have important business to attend to.
.
?: Hmm? Like what?
.
Sokolov: It isn't something you should know.
.
A voice ring out from the distance, then another fairy showed up.
.
?: Cirno! Where-ah! There you are. Why do you always run away?
.
Cirno: I was just wondering around, Dai.
.
Daiyousei: Yeah but what if you run into anyone dangerous?
.
Cirno: Pfft, come on. I'm the strongest, remember? I can take care of myself.
.
Daiyousei: But what if you face a scary foe that's stronger than you?
.
Cirno: Then I have you to team up with me to face said foe!
.
Sokolov: Huh, that's kinda wholesome.
.
The green-haired fairy turned at Sokolov and jumped.

Daiyousei: Eek! A scary foe!
.
Sokolov: Where!?... Oh, you mean me.
.
Cirno: Meh, she doesn't seem too scary. Weird wings though.
.
Sokolov: Thanks I guess...? Anyways, I'm gonna leave now.
.
Daiyousei: Yes. Goodbye strange person.
.
Cirno: Where are ya going? You seem to be going into the direction of the big red mansion. You're not a fairy maid are you cause you kinda look like one.

Daiyousei: Yeah I can see that.
.
Sokolov: Umm... It's really not your business to know so please don't push farther until something bad happens to you.
.
Cirno: ...What? What does any of that mean? Are you trying to make me mad by saying a lot of words?

Sokolov: No I-
.
Cirno: You know what, I'm gonna freeze you!

Sokolov: Wait!
.
The ice fairy shot out icicles from her hands. Sokolov dodged frantically and began running away.

Cirno: Hey! Get back here and fight!
.
Daiyousei: Cirno, wait!
.
Sokolov rushed past the many trees in the forest as the ice fairy slowly catches up, shooting ice shards while giving chase. Daiyousei frantically tries to catch up but fails.

Eventually, our obsidian fairy runs up to a gate with a green and white dressed guard who noticed her. The gatekeeper also wore a green hat with a star on it with red hair underneath.

?: What the...Umm, hello? Are you lost or something?
.
Sokolov: Huh? Oh, hi. Um..I'm being chased by someone who wants to fight me.
.
?: Have you tried fighting back? That usually works.
.
Cirno(in the distance): She has to be up here!
.
Sokolov: Oh no..
.
?: *Sighs* I'll protect you. Just get behind me.
.
The fairy rushed behind the guard as Cirno flew up.
.
Cirno: Ah! She esc-no wait...found her.
.
?: You might wanna step away before you get hurt.
.
Cirno: Ah come on. We're just having fun. Me, my friend and my other friend.
.
Daiyousei: *Heavy breathing* N..no...it's wrong..to lie.
.
Cirno: Dai!
.
?: Ugh. Are you two done?
.
Daiyousei: Yes.
.
Cirno: No.
.
Daiyousei: Cirno!
.
Cirno: ... *Sighs* Fine. We'll leave but know this, weird fairy. I will fight you...I mean it...Seriously!

Both fairies turned around and headed into the forest. Sokolov sighs in relief as she faces the gatekeeper.

Sokolov: Thank you miss...
.
Meiling: Hong Meiling and your welcome. Are you a maid perhaps?
.
Sokolov: Huh? N-No. I don't even think I look like one.
.
Meiling: Meh..a little bit. So if you're not a fairy maid, then why are you here besides getting chased by your "friends". I assume you were going to travel here, yes?
.
Sokolov: Umm, that's right. I was told to go to the library. I'm a scientist in training.
.
Meiling: Oh I see. You must be here to learn from Miss Patchouli. I'm sure she's ecstatic to know that she'll have an apprentice like that devil assistant. Then please come on in.

The obsidian fairy watched as Meiling opened the gate and walked past it. She turned around to face the gatekeeper again. Meiling closed it and gave Sokolov a thumbs up.

Meiling: Just tell the head maid your business and she'll escort you to the library. Good luck!
.
Sokolov: Um, thanks.
.
The fairy walked up to the front doors and knocked on it. After a minute has passed, the door opened up revealing a little bit of the inside.

Sokolov could see a red carpet with dim lights scattered in the room, giving it a dark environment. In front of her is a tall maid wearing a blue and white dress. Her hair is silver with braids with green ribbons on them.

Sokolov: Uh..h-hi. My name is Sokolov and I'm a scientist in training. Are you the head maid?
.
?: Why yes I am.
.
The maid bowed.
.
Sakuya: I am Sakuya Izayoi. Head maid and servant to the Scarlet Devil herself. Now, why is a scientist in training doing here in the first place?
.
Sokolov: Well I came on behalf of Marisa Kirisame.
.
Sakuya: Oh, is she sick or something?
.
Sokolov: No she is very busy. She tasked me to go borrow a book from the library.
.
Sakuya: Oh? Well unfortunately that's up to Miss Patchouli. I could escort you there.
.
Sokolov: I would like that. This place looks big and I feel like I could get lost easily.
.
Sakuya: Oh indeed it is. Please come on in, I'll take you there.
.
Sokolov: So, Is Miss Patchouli the owner of this place?
.
Sakuya: Not quite. You must not be familiar with this place?
.
Sokolov: Indeed. All I know is that this place is called the 'SDM'. Miss Marisa didn't give me much details now that I noticed...maybe I should've ask for more information.

Sakuya: Hmm, well the place is really called The Scarlet Devil Mansion.
.
Sokolov: Oh. I kinda figured the SDM are initials.
.
Sakuya: Correct! It's smaller and simpler than just saying the full name. Calling it 'The Mansion' doesn't help though since there's other mansions in Gensokyo.

Sokolov: So where does the scarlet devil part come from?
.
Sakuya: That's a title from the mistress: Remilia Scarlet.
.
Sokolov: Oh I get it! Now that I think about it. You did mention being a servant to her earlier.
.
Sakuya: Indeed I did. Ah! We're here.
.
The head maid turned the knobs of a pair of doors and pulled them open to reveal a room. The room is massive with rows and rows of bookshelves all lined up. There's even stairs leading to a second floor with more bookshelves similarly organized.

Sokolov: Woah. This place is incredible. It's almost magical in a way.
.
Sakuya: It is, isn't it? I have some business to attend to but it shouldn't be hard to find Miss Patchouli in the library.
.
Sokolov: Thank you Miss Sakuya. It was a pleasure chatting with you.
.
Sakuya: *Smiles* Likewise.
.
Suddenly, Sakuya vanished.
.
Sokolov: Woah! That was interesting. Teleporting maids...This place is definitely something else.
.
The fairy turns around and immediately bumps into someone. The person dropped some books in the process.
.
?: Ow! Hey watch it.
.
Sokolov: Sorry! I didn't mean to.
.
Sokolov helps the person up and brushes any dirt or dust off. The person wore a black and white dress with a red tie. She appears to have bat wings on her red hair and bigger ones on her back as well.

Sokolov: Here, I'll help pick up your books.
.
?: I can do it.
.
The two bump heads while picking up the books. Eventually they cleaned up the mess.

Sokolov: Sorry I caused some problems Miss.
.
?: *Sighs* It's fine. I appreciate the help though. Did my master request your assistance?
.
Sokolov: Huh? Uh, no. Is your master Patchouli?
.
?: What? Oh course she is. I know I'm a little obscure but all maids know who I am.
.
Sokolov: Wait I am not-
.
?: Follow me, maid.
.
Sokolov: Well I..Uh, well...Nevermind.
