Episode One: Not So Happy Campers, Part One

The episode began with Chris McLean standing on the docks of Camp Wawanakwa.

"Welcome back to Total Drama Island," he told the audience with a smile on his face. "Alright, it's time to meet our first eleven campers. We told them they'd all be staying at this five-star resort, so if they seemed a little T.O.-ed, that's probably why."

The first boat to arrive dropped a lean teenage boy of Italian descent. He had brown eyes and jet black hair that was slicked to one side. In addition to wearing a gray t-shirt, black gym shorts, white sneakers and black socks, he also had a toothpick in his mouth as he looked around at his surroundings in confusion.

"Tony, welcome," Chris McLean said to him. "How does it feel to be the first one here?"

"Ey, are you sure this is the right place?" Tony asked in a thick Brooklyn accent, gesturing to the buildings that could be seen inland. "Cause when I heard that this was happening at a five star resort, this wasn't what I was expecting, capisce?"

"Ey, this is it," Chris answered in a horrible attempt at a Brooklyn accent, causing Tony to frown. "Camp Wawanakwa. Now take your things to the other end of the dock before the next boat arrives, capisce?"

"Hilarious," Tony said in an annoyed tone as he picked up his bag and moved down the dock while grumbling to himself. "This looked a lot different on the application form…"

The second boat dropped off a Cacuasian girl of average build with ivory skin and short red hair that was in a pixie cut. She had brown eyes and long muscular legs. She wore a royal blue parka over a white shirt, black jeans, white socks, and ankle boots. Around her neck hung a circular silver locket. Though she looked a bit surprised by where she had been dropped off, she managed to stay calm and put on a fake smile as she walked over to Chris.

"And this is Iris," Chris introduced. "Welcome."

"Thank you," Iris said to Chris, shaking his hand. "It's great to be here. This… is where we'll be staying, correct?"

"Nope," Chris answered and Iris sighed in relief. "This is where you'll be staying." He pointed in the opposite direction. "My crib is an airstream with AC that-a-way."

This answer disappointed Iris, but rather than complain about it she picked up her bag and walked over to Tony, making sure that her left elbow was covered first.

"Hi," she said as she stood next to Tony. "I'm Iris."

"Ey, how you doing?" Tony asked, toothpick still in his mouth. "The name's Tony."

The third boat dropped off a teenage boy who was very short and petite with pale skin. He had bright blonde hair and silvery blue eyes. His blue jeans were ripped and over a white shirt he wore a black hoodie with cat ears. Plastered on his face was a charming and friendly smile.

"Our next camper is Eli," Chris announced as the teen walked over.

"Wow, I can't believe I get to meet the Chris McLean," Eli said in childish awe. "I am a huge fan! I especially love your work on that figure skating show."

Chris's big smile grew even bigger with this praise. "Hey, thanks man," he said to Eli. "And I knew I rocked that show!"

"By the way, my parental consent forms came in okay, right?" Eli asked after having stroked the host's ego.

"Oh yeah, don't worry about it," Chris reassured Eli. "No problems there."

Chris's answer made Eli look secretly relieved as he walked over to where Iris and Tony were chatting. "Hey, isn't this supposed to be a talent show?" he asked his fellow campers while noticing the buildings inland.

"We are just as much in the dark as you," Iris told him while Tony nodded in agreement.

The fourth boat dropped off a lean teenage girl who looked to be of mixed ethnicity. She had dark blonde wavy hair that she let loose up to the top of her neck, dark brown eyes, and a natural resting bitch face. She wore a beige hooded trucker jacket over a plain red t-shirt, dark brown cargo pants, white socks, and dark brown sneakers. She stood on the dock for a moment, looking nervous and fidgety.

"Rae," Chris introduced, only for the girl to seemingly not hear him. He cleared his throat. "Rae."

The girl heard her name being called for the second time and she went over to Chris. "Sorry, sorry," she apologized to him, attempting a smile. "Thank you for choosing me." She looked around. "Is this it?"

"Yep," Chris confirmed. "Have you ever been to summer camp?"

"Uh, no actually," Rae told him.

"Well, this is a lot like that," Chris explained. "No outside contact, Internet, or simple comfort for eight weeks. That won't be a problem with you, will it?"

Rae shook her head. "No sir," she answered. "This… this will be fine." She took a deep breath and carried her stuff to where the other campers were, though she still made sure there was a good amount of distance between her and them.

The fifth boat dropped off a teen boy with a well-toned lightly tanned body. He had an angular face, long silky black hair that he let loose, and gray eyes. He was wearing brown jeans, gray sneakers, and a red short-sleeved flannel shirt with a white undershirt underneath.

"Total Drama, here I am!" the boy said with a confident smile as he went over to Chris.

"Bill!" Chris greeted, fist bumping the new contestant. "Great to have you!"

"Hey man, great to be had," Bill told Chris. "Really looking forward to trying out new things this summer… and meeting new people! Live life to the fullest and all that!"

"You do realize that this is a competition, right?" Chris asked Bill.

"Of course!" Bill replied with a cocky grin. "And I still intend to win! That's just not my only reason for being here."

He carried his stuff over to his fellow campers. "Hey, what's up?" he asked as he introduced himself to everyone except Rae, who kept her distance. Bill noticed this and gestured to Rae. "Is she okay?"

"I think she's just nervous," Iris said, keeping her voice low. "We probably shouldn't crowd around her, it might make her uncomfortable."

As Bill nodded, the next camper was dropped off. This teen was a Caucasian girl with red long straight hair, brown relaxed eyes, and a freckled face. She wore a brown and white shirt, light blue jean shorts, black roller skates with long white socks, brown helmet, wrist guards, elbow pads, and knee pads. As she jumped from the boat to the dock while on her skates, she almost fell over but managed to regain her balance and prevent a wipeout. She sighed in relief and skated over to Chris.

"Hey, nice save there Xenon," Chris told her. "But just warning you now, this place might not agree with her skates."

Xenon noticed the island behind Chris and frowned. "The application form didn't say this talent contest would be happening in the woods," she told him.

"Well, it's not exactly a talent contest either," Chris told her. "You'll see what I mean."

Still frowning, Xenon skated over to her fellow campers. "Hi," she greeted.

The other campers greeted her back, but it was Tony's 'Ey' that grabbed her attention. She turned to him.

"Was that a… Brooklyn accent?" she asked him.

"What about it?" Tony asked, narrowing his eyes slightly.

"Oh, it's just that I used to live in New York before my family moved to Canada," Xenon explained. "I just wasn't expecting to hear a New York accent here."

Tony smiled at that. "A fellow Yorker, huh?" he asked, putting his arm around her shoulder. "You and me, I think we are going to get along fine, capisce?"

The next teen dropped off was very tall, but built like a twig with awkwardly long limbs and knobbly knees, though there was some wiry muscle in his limbs. He had very pale skin, hazel eyes, and chestnut brown hair that was gelled back and swept to one side. He wore a white shirt with a red bow tie and black pants tucked into tall brown boots. On his shirt was a red name tag sticker with 'JOE' scrawled on it. He also wore a single bright red inflatable boxing glove on his left hand, which was decorated with a comic book style 'POW' speech balloon on it.

"Joseph, welcome!" Chris greeted, much to the confusion of Joseph.

"Joseph?" he asked, looking around. "I don't see a Joseph. If you are referring to me, then I am afraid that you are mistaken. For I am known as… the Greatest Joeman!"

Chris did not look impressed. "Yeah… I am not calling you that," he told Joseph. "But as I was saying, welcome to Total Drama Island."

"Total Drama?" he asked. "That's funny, because just yesterday I had finished up with your Total Drama-mama!" He laughed at his own joke, even though Chris was not the least bit amused.

"Just go over there with your fellow campers," Chris said, pushing Joseph away. He groaned under his breath. "Sheesh, comedians."

"Hey, uh, what's with the punching glove?" Bill asked as Joseph carried his stuff over to them.

"Simple," Joseph answered. "You see, life is a joke. Which means I have to be the punchline."

Nobody laughed.

"A-and it's better to punch than get punched," Joseph tried to explain. "That's what Joe told me." Everyone was awkwardly silent while Joseph's eyes darted around expectantly. "I said, that's what Joe told me."

He waited for somebody to ask him who Joe was, but nobody was falling for it. Eventually, Iris decided to end the awkwardness. "Uh, who is Jo-"

"Joe mama!" Joseph interrupted triumphantly, laughing to himself as he took his spot while everyone else groaned at his obnoxious humor.

The eighth camper to be dropped off was a short, petite Korean girl with an inverted triangle figure and a flat stomach. She had bright aqua blue hair that she wore up in two space buns with a few loose pieces of hair out to frame her face. She wore green contacts, a yellow spaghetti strap crop top, mid thigh length light wash denim shorts, and black high heel boots. For a split second, there was an evil smirk on her face as she headed over for Chris.

"Kennedy," Chris greeted. "Hope Camp Wawanakwa is to your liking."

The Korean girl looked around. "This is an old summer camp, right?" When Chris nodded, Kennedy got out her journal and looked through it, a crazy smile appearing on her face. "Oh yeah, I can work with this." She then put her journal away and turned her attention back on Chris, enthusiastically shaking his hand. "Thank you so so so much for letting me on your show! I promise you won't regret it! This is going to be awesome!"

After she was done shaking the host's hand, she went to join her fellow campers, getting a good look at her future victims. "Hi," she said with a cheerful smile.

The next camper was quite tall with a pretty average build and pale skin. He wore a long black gothic coat with chains on it, red accents, and the card suits on the trim of the coat; a red dress shirt with a black intricately designed gothic vest; a black western bowtie with an ace of diamonds broach; black jeans with a chain attached to the belt loops; black steel-toed boots black fingerless leather gloves with small chains connecting his two outer knuckles; and red contacts. As he stepped off the boat, he was shuffling a deck of cards in his hands.

"Alright, and this is…" Chris fumbled with the teen's name and had to pull an index card out of his pocket. "…Aztaroth. Really, that's what you're going with?"

"It is my regal name and you will address me as such," Aztaroth told Chris, his voice calm and dignified.

"Okay then," Chris said, not sure how else to respond. "You can go ahead and join the others if you don't mind rubbing shoulders with 'commoners'."

Aztaroth smirked and headed toward the other campers with his stuff, only for Kennedy to get in his way.

"Wow, cool contacts!" she said, pointing to his red eyes. "I got those too!" She pointed to her own green eyes.

"Ey, what exactly is with your get-up?" Tony asked with a smirk. "Ain't it too early for Halloween?"

Aztaroth's eye twitched at this as he turned his gaze onto Tony. "For your information," he told the Brooklyn accented teen. "I am known as the 'Gothic King of Gambling'. My aesthetic reflects my tastes: extravagant."

"Well I think he looks cool," Eli interrupted with a childish smile. "And impressive."

Any further argument was interrupted by the sound of rock music. Everyone turned to see the next boat heading toward the dock. On the boat was a speaker blasting rock music and chilling to the music was a slender Caucasian girl with dyed dark purple hair that was long and messy. She wore a dark red tank top with two black stripes horizontally in the middle, blue jeans, and black velcro shoes. A tattoo of a heart with an arrow through it was next to her belly button.

Once the boat was at the dock, the girl jumped off and gave a chill wave. "Hey there."

"Roxie!" Chris said as the girl walked over to him. "I know that you said in your audition tape that you wanted a nice vacation, but this probably wasn't what you were expecting."

Roxie glanced at the wooden buildings and woods that could be seen inland. She shrugged. "Still looks like a vacation to me."

She carried her stuff over to the other competitors, smiling at them. "Hey dudes," she told her fellow campers. "Great to be here with you all."

"Same," Bill said, fist bumping Roxie as she joined her fellow campers. "Was that rock music you were listening to?"

"Yeah, actually," Roxie told him. "I even have my own rock band back home called the Vibing Vampires. I brought some of our music with me if anyone wants to give it a listen."

However, nobody answered Roxie. Instead, everyone's attention was on the camper who had just been dropped off by the next boat.

This teen was a Hawaiin boy with thick and black hair that was styled so it would fall into his eyes. He wore a dark red shirt that showed off his musculature and dark jeans. By his side was a surfboard that he carried. Almost all of the girls and several of the boys were staring at him.

"Hey, what's up?" the boy asked as he came up to Chris.

"Alright, Kai is here," Chris said to the teen. "And it looks like you've already made a good first impression."

This confused Kai. "But I haven't even done anything yet," he said in a gentle voice.

"Hey, what's with the board?" Roxie asked. "This ain't exactly Hawaii."

"I heard there was going to be a beach," Kai defended as he looked around. "Though the application form seems to be very misleading…"

"Oh, don't worry," Chris told Kai. "There is a beach." He pointed to a nearby beach, which was covered in garbage. A seagull with plastic around its neck was sitting on the beach until a small wave carried it away.

Kai cringed at that sorry excuse for a beach. "Yeah, that's… not what I had in mind," he said as he went to take his place with the other campers.

"Eleven down, eleven more to go," Chris said as he turned toward the next boat.

This boat dropped off a skinny white girl with a bit of a gut. She kept her medium length brown hair in a bun, while her eyes were round and blue. She wore blue jeans, a pink t-shirt, and blue shoes. Chris walked up to her.

"Chloe, welcome to your new home for eight weeks," he told the girl, gesturing toward the buildings inland.

"Oh my gosh, is this a summer camp?" Chloe asked and when Chris nodded, she smiled gleefully. "I LOVE summer camp! This is going to be even more fun than I thought it would be! I can't wait to roast marshmallows, sing campfire songs, tell scary ghost stories-"

"Yeah, and you'll get to do all that later," Chris interrupted. "But right now I have ten more teens to introduce, so why don't you go and introduce yourself to your fellow campers?"

Chloe nodded and picked up her stuff, running over to the teens who had arrived before her. She smiled at them and waved. "Hi! I'm Chloe!"

As she introduced herself to the other teens, she stopped in front of Aztaroth. "Wow, what are you supposed to be?"

"I am Aztaroth, the Gothic King of Gambling," Aztaroth introduced himself in a dignified manner.

"Ooh, sounds edgy," Chloe said, getting excited. "I wonder what you're compensating for."

Aztaroth scoffed at this, though his eye twitched slightly.

The next boat dropped off a Hispanic boy who had a slimmer figure and was on the shorter side. He had tanned skin, brown eyes, and wavy hair which was dyed pale pink, his bangs falling to just above his chin and parting to the right. He was wearing a rose patterned green and tan striped-sweater, brown chino pants, round gold glasses, and a pink converse.

"Rico," Chris announced as the teen boy walked over to him. To his surprise, the boy was offering him a flower. "Uh… what is this?"

"I wanted to give you something as thanks for choosing me," Rico explained cheerfully. "This is the trilliium grandiflorum, also known as the white trillium. Ontario chose it as its provincial flower in 1937. It opens from late spring to early summer and is called the trillium because it has three petals and three lea-"

"Yeah, I really don't care," Chris interrupted, snatching the flower out of Rico's hand and stuffing it in his pocket. "Just get going and please don't try to give me any more flowers in the future, okay? I don't want to make this weird."

Rico tensed at this. "O-of course," he said, fumbling over his words. "I-I'm s-s-sorry, it won't happen again." He carried his stuff over to the other campers. "Hi, I'm Rico. I mean, you probably already knew that if you were listening to Chris, but-"

Before he could finish his sentence, the tip of one of Rico's shoes fell into the space between the dock's boards and he tripped, falling flat on his face. He groaned weakly. "Ow…"

Bill rushed forward to help Rico up. "Christ, are you okay, man?" he asked, concerned. "Because that looked like it hurt."

"I'm fine," Rico said as he got up and brushed himself off, a small blush on his face. "T-thanks."

"Hidey-Ho, strangers!" the next camper shouted, causing everyone to look toward the approaching boat. But the camper who had shouted was not on the boat… she was above it.

She was a small and petite Asian girl of below average height only. Her face was round in shape and her narrow eyes were hazel in color. She also had downward-turned lips with bushy eyebrows, a button nose, small ears, and light freckles the rest on the bridge of her nose and cheeks. Lastly, she has gray-colored braces and oval-shaped black-rimmed glasses. She was a simple short-sleeved bright yellow t-shirt along with a dark green vest overtop, which was covered with different types of girl scout badges. She also wore a forest green beret with matching, form-fitting khaki shorts that were forest green in color as well. Lastly, she wore dark brown hiking boots along with over-the-calf wool socks that are forest green in color.

Currently she was flying behind the boat on what appeared to be a makeshift hang glider made out of ropes, duct tape, and boat tarps. But when the boat came to a stop at the docks, the hang glider didn't stop and instead found itself on a collision course toward the docks.

"Incoming!" the girl shouted as she came in for a crash-landing… right on top of Rico.

"Ow…" Rico said weakly while beneath the girl and her makeshift hang glider.

"Sorry, my bad!" the girl apologized as she helped Rico up. "I hope I didn't hurt you too bad."

"It's okay," Rico reassured her as he walked off his injuries. "Don't worry about it."

"This is Suzie, our Girl Scout," Chris explained as he walked over to them.

"Girl Scouts?" Iris asked. "Is that where you learned to make a hang glider?"

"You bet!" Suzie said, swelling with pride. "I'm the junior leader for the Posy Girl Scout Troop, here to show everyone how awesome it is to be a Girl Scout!" She looked around and suddenly realized something, causing her to turn to Chris. "Wait, is this show taking place at a summer camp instead of some big stage or something?"

"You got it," Chris answered, causing Suzie to get even more excited.

"Yes!" she celebrated. "I will be so much more in my element here!"

She walked over to join the others, standing next to Joseph who decided to speak to her.

"You seem like a girl who is very fun to hang with," he said, causing a few nearby teens to groan.

"Hang, ha!" Suzie laughed, which made Joseph grin. "I get it! Good one!"

The next teen dropped off was a Japanese boy with a slender body, brown eyes, messy neck-length black hair, and a beige skin tone. He wore a pair of dark blue jeans, a blue and gray plaid shirt with the sleeves rolled up and a gray t-shirt underneath, black sneakers, and a pair of black fingerless gloves.

"Nate," Chris greeted as the teen looked around in confusion. "Everything okay?"

"I think there's been a mix-up," Nate told Chris. "Because the application form said that this contest would be taking place at a five-star resort. So where's the hotel?"

"Heh, that's the thing," Chris answered. "There is no hotel. You and your fellow teens will be living and competing here."

Nate looked annoyed at this, but he quickly disguised his annoyance with a smile. "Good joke, Chris," he said with a fake laugh. "You really got me. I can't wait to see what else you have in store for us this summer!"

He then walked away from Chris to join the other campers, all the while mumbling under his breath. "Stupid host," he whispered to himself. "Lying to us about where we would be staying. Now I have to spend eight weeks in a disgusting rundown summer camp…" He then put on an insincere smile for his fellow teens. "Hey everyone, how are you all doing?"

The next boat dropped off a tall Hispanic girl with a very curvy and pudgy body. She had honey tan skin, dark brown eyes, a beauty mark on her left cheek, and very curly and wavy dark brown hair that went down to her upper back. She wore a flowy, off-the-shoulder magenta crop top with sleeves that went down just past her elbows and flared out. With this, she wore a long layered skirt that reached the ground. The top layer was magenta with a slit over the left side, revealing the navy blue bottom layer. Wrapped around her waist was a navy blue sash and she had a navy blue headband wrapped around her head. She wore a lot of jewelry, including a gold plated necklace with a red gem in the middle, a long necklace with a crystal attached to it, gold hoop earrings, and multiple golden bracelets on her wrists.

"Looking great, Camila," Chris complimented.

"Thank you, Chris," Camila said with a smile. "Glad to be here, though I already knew that I would be chosen."

"Let me guess, because of your 'gift'?" Chris asked her.

"You could say that," Camila said as she walked past him. "But don't worry, Chris, I promise to make your show much more interesting…"

As she walked toward the other campers, something fell out of her bag and rolled toward them, which she quickly rushed forward to pick up. "Oops!"

"Is that a crystal ball?" Rae asked in surprise, speaking up for the first time since her arrival.

"Yes, actually," Camila said with a grin as she held her crystal ball. "You see, I have the gift of clairvoyance. I can read fortunes."

"Ey, you serious?" Tony asked with a scoff, earning Camila's annoyance.

"Oh, you doubt me?" Camila asked. "Are you not a believer in the supernatural and the occult?"

"Of course not," Tony said, crossing his arms. "And anyone who thinks they can read someone's future or talk to spirits or whatever is a wackjob, plain and simple."

Camila narrowed her eyes at him. "Be warned, non-believer," she told Tony. "For the spirits are listening. You may find yourself regretting your words soon enough…"

"Pfft, I doubt it," Tony said with a smirk. "I would like your spirits to take their best shot."

"Do you think you can read any of our futures?" Kai asked as Camila stood next to him.

"Of course, my dear," Camila told him, smiling. "For a fee."

The next camper dropped off was a very out-of-shape Caucasian teen with a big, husky body shape. He had blue eyes, pale skin tone, short curly light-brown hair, crooked teeth, and was rather on the chunky side. He had black sweatpants, a red and white sports jersey with the number '0' on the front, and red sneakers.

"Welcome, Sid," Chris greeted as the teen boy walked over to him. "I'm Chris, the host."

"Oh, I know you are," Sid scoffed. "You're much shorter than I expected."

Chris raised an eyebrow at this, only for Sid to let out an obnoxious giggle before giving Chris a hard-gripping handshake, causing Chris to wince.

"I'm kidding," Sid said with a grin. "I'm actually something of a fan of yours. Especially your old band Fametown."

"Huh," Chris said in surprise. "I haven't heard anybody mention Fametown in a while. Usually it is just the superfans who remember Fametown, like this purple-haired chick who is the president of my fan club."

"Superfan?" Sid asked, scoffing slightly. "Well, I wouldn't go that far…"

Sid then walked over to the other campers, doing his best to look cool and tough. "Pft," he said. "Is this really my competition?" He looked down at Rico in particular. "Laughable."

Rico gulped, feeling intimidated, and backed away a little. "Nice to meet you too…"

Sid then noticed Aztaroth and he suppressed a laugh. "Let me guess, you're the goth kid? Where did Chris find you, loser?"

Aztaroth glared at Sid. "You are hardly the one to be criticizing someone's appearance, brute."

Sid was surprised to hear Aztaroth respond and he narrowed his eyes at the gothic gambler. "You're trying way too hard, you know that right?"

"And you're not?" Aztaroth asked, the two teens pressing each other's buttons.

Sid decided to back off. "Just messing around," he said as he took his place.

The next boat was carrying a short indigenous girl with a fit build and slightly lean muscles. She had tanned skin and green eyes, her messy, dyed magenta hair done up into a ponytail with her bangs covering the left side of her face. She wore a forest green blouse with puffy green short sleeves with a brown corset over top of it. With this, she had a matching forest green skirt with a brown strip along the bottom and a brown belt over it. Underneath this, she wore a purple body suit that covered her arms and legs while doubling as a mask which covered the lower portion of her face. She also had brown, fingerless leather gloves and matching knee-high boots, while draped around her shoulders was a long, dark purple hooded cloak.

As the boat approached the dock, the girl did something that surprised everyone else. She leaped off the boat, did a flip in the air, and landed neatly on the dock. Everyone stared at her in silence until she finally spoke.

"What?" she asked them. "Are you waiting for me to say something cool or something?"

"Uh, yeah," Chris admitted. "We were, Miriam."

"Well, I don't do catchphrases," she said with a shrug as her bag was thrown to her from the boat. She looked around. "Uh, this is not what was on the application form."

"Yeah, we wanted to surprise you," Chris told her. "Is that a problem?"

"Of course not, I love surprises," Miriam said sarcastically. "Who doesn't love being lied to about the place they'll be staying at with a bunch of strangers for eight weeks?" She then shrugged. "Though I like the woods, so I can't complain too much."

She walked over to the other campers, several of whom went over to greet her.

"Hey, that was a pretty sick flip," Xenon told her.

"Yeah, and I love your outfit!" Suzie admitted. "It's so cool!"

"Thanks," Miriam said in a flat, monotone voice.

The next camper to arrive was a skinny Hispanic boy with brown eyes and brown hair that rested just above his neck. He wore a cyan jacket with pockets stuffed with notepads and pens over a white long-sleeved shirt, beige pants, and gray shoes.

"Ashton," Chris said to him. "Welcome to Total Drama Island. How do you feel about being here?"

Ashton gave a confident grin as he started to get off the boat. "Well, let me just say-" He never got to finish, since he tripped as he fell off the boat and fell flat on his face on the dock. "DAMMIT!"

A few of the campers winced as they saw Ashton land on his face. Others snickered.

"Ouch," Xenon whispered to Tony. "Probably not the first impression he was hoping for."

Ashton quickly got up and brushed himself off, looking panicked and embarrassed. His notepads and pens had fallen out of his pockets and he immediately started to gather them up.

"Hey, do you need any help?" Iris offered, stepping forward.

"NO!" Ashton shouted at her. "I mean, I'm fine!"

Iris was taken a bit aback by this. "O-okay," she said as she left Ashton alone.

Once he had finished picking his notepads and pens up, Ashton walked over to the other contestants with an annoyed expression. He knew that they wouldn't take him seriously after what they had just seen. He thought he caught Kennedy snickering at him for a moment and he shot a glare at her, though she didn't seem to notice.

"I guess you're not very good at planning trips," Joseph joked, earning Ashton's ire.

"Shut up," he told Joseph, not amused at all.

The third to last camper was a Japanese teenage girl with an athletic build. She had porcelain skin, yellow eyes. black hair with dyed silver streaks and ponytail dyed lime green, purple lipstick, and green fingernails. She was wearing a range shirt with a picture of a record on it, blue headphones, a vest with one half cyan and other half dark blue, black pants, and red running shoes. She was listening to her headphones as she stepped off the boat, not really paying attention to everything and everyone around her.

"Roxanne," Chris said, trying to get her attention. But the teen had her eyes closed as she listened to her music. "Hey, Roxanne." Chris snapped his fingers in her face. "Roxanne!"

The girl finally noticed him, opening her eyes and removing her headphones. She smiled when she saw Chris and started to sign. 'Hi, Chris.'

"Yeah, I'm going to stop you right there," Chris told her. "The problem is that I don't know sign language, so I have no idea what you're saying." This caused Roxanne to frown. "We did have an intern who knew how to sign, but yesterday there was an accident and in addition to sending condolences to his family, I still haven't found a replacement interpreter. So this is going to be an issue."

"Wait!" Suzie shouted as she ran over to them. "I know ASL!" She started to sign to Roxanne. 'Hi, Roxanne. My name is Suzie.'

Roxanne's face lit up when she recognized that Suzie understood her. 'Nice to meet you, Suzie,' she responded with a sheepish grin.

"Of course you know sign language," Chris muttered to Suzie. "I really shouldn't be surprised." He did look relieved though. "Still, this saves me the trouble of replacing that intern. I'll make sure you two end up on the same team so that translating her isn't a problem."

Both Roxanne and Suzie clearly liked that idea as they smiled at each other.

"That sounds great!" Suzie exclaimed, hoping this means she's already made her first friend. "I think you and I are going to get along just fine, Roxanne!"

'I think so too,' Roxanne signed as she picked up her stuff and followed Suzie over to the other campers. She waved at them. 'Sup my homies,' she signed as Suzie translated.

"I'm surprised to see another Roxanne here," Roxie admitted. "Don't worry though, I prefer to go by Roxie so I don't think we should have a problem. Maybe we can even talk about music sometime."

As Roxanne nodded at that idea, the second to last boat arrived. Off of it stepped a scrawny Japanese boy with gray eyes along with short and messy black hair. He wore a gray shirt with long black sleeves and blue jeans.

"Chris!" he said excitedly as he got off the boat. He went up to the host and offered him a fist bump.

"Leon!" Chris said as he fist bumped the teen. "Are you excited to be here?"

"Thrilled," Leon said as he casually looked around. "Is everyone else already here?"

"Almost," Chris answered. "After you there's only one person left."

"Cool," Leon nodded as he walked past Chris and went over to his fellow campers. He stood next to Kai while looking over the other teens.

"Hey, check out this eye candy," he whispered to Kai, who was confused.

"You mean the girls?" Kai asked.

"What?" Leon asked while turning to Kai. "No, I was talking about these candy eyeballs, they're pretty tasty." He held up a bag of candy eyeballs while giving a shit-eating grin. "Do you want any?"

"Ooh, I would like some," Eli said, overhearing the conversation.

Finally, the last boat arrived. Standing on top of it was a skinny white girl with green eyes and black hair that was dyed purple and green, one side being purple and the other side being green, and done up in spiky pigtails. She wore a black tank top with a skull and crossbones on it, along with black ripped pants as well as black fur trimmed boots. To clash with this all black ensemble, she also wore a red and green tutu along with rainbow colored arm sleeves. Additionally she wore a beaded necklace around her neck with a rabbit's foot, a pacifier, and a flower pin attached to it, as well as two pink bows that held up her spiky pigtails.

However, she didn't wait for the boat to pull into the dock. Instead, she took a running leap off of it. Clearly, she was aiming for the water. But instead she ended up face-planting on the dock, causing Chris and a few of the other campers to cringe, since that looked like it hurt. For a few seconds of silence, the body didn't move. Then her arms were raised in the air.

"That. Was. AWESOME!" the girl said as she got up and gave a big smile.

"Woah, are you okay?" Bill asked. "Because that must have not felt good."

"Nah, I'm great," the girl said as she gave a thumbs up. "I do this all the time. I'm Zabrina, by the way. Though I will be known as the Amazing Zabi once I get my stunt work recognized, which should be soon enough."

"Did you say stunt work?" Xenon asked, intrigued.

Zabrina nodded. "Oh yeah, I do all sorts of crazy stunts. It's my calling. I found it one day while I was driving my dirt bike through town. I was going underneath a bunch of ladders that had been set up earlier that morning. But I was focusing so hard on going under the ladders that I accidentally drove through a couple tables of salt shakers that were on the other side, spilling salt everywhere. While attempting to regain control of my bike, I accidently drove into a mirror warehouse, breaking all of the mirrors inside. When I finally emerged out of the mirror, I came to a stop by crashing into the front entrance of a black cat sanctuary. It was the coolest accidental thing that I had ever pulled off!"

It was safe to say that all of the other campers were left speechless by Zabrina's story.

"You gotta be kidding us, right?" Tony asked in disbelief, only for Zabrina to shake her head.

"Nope!" she answered cheerfully. "I know, crazy, right?"

"Incredible," Camila said in awe. "I can't tell whether I should be impressed or feel sorry for you…"

Chris cleared his throat. "Now that everybody is here, we need a group photo for the promo. Everyone go to the end of the dock."

As the twenty-two campers moved to the end of the dock, Roxanne opened up her bag and pulled out a purple Daft Punk helmet.

"Hey, what's that?" Suzie asked, noticing.

'My Daft Punk helmet,' Roxanne signed. 'Back home I'm a DJ. I call myself DJ Glitch.' She placed on the helmet and turned it on, the helmet projecting a thumbs up. She and Suzie then joined the other campers for the group photo.

Chris jumped onto the last boat as he got ready to take a picture. "One, two, three…" A snap sound was heard. "Oops, forgot the lens cap." He corrected it. "Okay, hold that pose. One, tw- Oh no, wait, card's full. Hang on."

Camila rolled her eyes. "Come on, my face is starting to freeze."

"Got it," Chris informed them. "Okay, everyone say 'Wawanakwa!'"

"Wawanakwa!" the campers said.

However, the dock collapsed as Chris took the photo, sending all twenty-two campers into the water below.

"Okay, guys, dry off and meet at the campfire pit in ten," Chris informed the campers as they were struggling to stay afloat, including Roxanne trying to keep her head above the water while her helmet projected an alarm.

Ten minutes later, the twenty-two campers had gathered at the campfire pit. Eleven of them sat while the other eleven stood. All twenty-two listened to Chris as he talked.

"This is Camp Wawanakwa, your home for the next eight weeks," Chris explained. "The campers sitting around you will be your cabin mates, your competition and maybe even your friends. You dig?"

Roxanne and Suzie shared a smile while Nate narrowed his eyes, obviously seeing the others as competition instead of potential friends. The gears in his head were already turning, as they were for several of the teens.

"The camper who manages to stay on Total Drama Island the longest without getting voted off will win $100,000!" Chris concluded. He saw a hand. "Yes, Rae?"

"Um, sir," Rae began. "What will the sleeping arrangements be like? They're not co-ed, are they?"

"No," Chris answered. "Girls get one side of each cabin and dudes get the other."

This brought relief to many of the girls.

"This is going to be so much fun!" Suzie said excitedly. "It'll be just like the summers I spent with my fellow Posies!"

"I can't wait either!" Chloe added. "I love summer camp!"

"Me too!" Suzie agreed.

They both squealed in excitement.

However, not everyone was as excited as them.

"Great," Xenon said while looking around. "Just great…"

"Not a fan of nature?" Tony asked her.

Xenon shook her head. "I mean, nature is fine. I'm just not good at working in it. I'm a skater. When I'm on hard cold concrete is when I'm in my element. I guess I'm just more of a city girl."

Tony nodded. "And I'm a city boy myself," he added while gesturing to himself. "You can take the Boss out of Brooklyn but you can't take the Brooklyn out of the Boss, capisce?" Xenon nodded. "But I think we'll manage just fine. If we can survive in New York, we can survive anywhere."

Chris called for their attention again. "Here's the deal. We're gonna split you into two teams if I call your name out, go stand over there." He pointed to a spot next to him.

"Aztaroth… Eli… Iris… Kai… Kennedy… Leon… Miriam… Nate… Roxanne… Susie… and Zabrina," Chris called out. "From this moment on, you are officially known as-" He tossed them a banner with a logo of a gopher screaming. "-the Screaming Gophers!"

"Woo!" Susie cheered. "We are Gophers!"

"The rest of you over here," Chris instructed, pointing to another spot. "Ashton… Bill… Camila… Chloe… Joseph… Rae… Rico… Roxie… Sid… Tony… and Xenon. You guys will officially be known as-" He tossed them a banner with a logo of an angry bass. "-the Killer Bass!"

"Are you sure we're not the… bass players?" Joseph asked, causing his new teammates to groan in annoyance.

"All right, campers, you and your team will be on camera in all public areas during this competition," Chris informed them.

Static

Chris was now seated in an outhouse with a camera in it. "You will also be able to share your innermost thoughts on tape with video diaries anytime you want in our confessional. Let the audience at home know what you're really thinking. Or just get something off your chest."

Static

Rae sat on the confessional and took a deep breath. "This will be fine, right? I mean, I'm on a team, and the challenges will probably require teamwork. That's not really something that I'm good at." She clasped her hands and attempted to smile. "But this will be fine," she said, more to herself than to the viewers.

Static

Kennedy was sitting on the confessional next. "I suggest paying close attention to what's to come," she told the viewers. "Because soon enough, you'll be seeing stars." She grinned evilly. "Maybe literally."

Static

It was Roxie's turn. "You know, my twin sister wanted to sign up too," she mentioned. "I'm actually kinda glad that she didn't get accepted though. She's something of a… religious fanatic." She winced at the thought. "But it is great to be here. Hopefully I'll win some moolah, get a sweet girl, and have some fun. I guess we'll see, won't we?"

Static

Now Leon was sitting in the confessional. "I might make some friends," he admitted. "But my chief goal is to get the money. Right now my plan is to hide under the radar so that they don't think I'm a threat for most of the game. I'll enjoy watching the inevitable shitload of drama unload, then I'll plow their asses like a cornfield." He grinned.

Static

"All right," Chris said back at the campfire pit. "Any questions? Cool. Let's find your cabins. Gophers, you're in the east cabin. Bass, you're in the west."

On the girl side of the east cabin, Susie was the first one in. "Bunk beds?" she asked, looking around. "Yes! I call first dibs!" She rushed forward to claim her bunk.

Outside of the west cabin, Rico went over to Chris. "Hey Chris, where do we go to take care of our, um, personal hygiene?"

Chris gestured behind him. "There are communal bathrooms, just across the way."

Rico looked at the building Chris was pointing to. "Wait, communal bathrooms? You mean-"

"That you shower together?" Chris asked. "Yep."

Rico's face blushed at the thought of that and he quickly rushed into his side of the cabin.

"Excuse me, Chris?" Bill asked as he walked up to the host. "Uh, is there a chaperone of any kind in this facility here?"

"You're all at least sixteen years old, aren't you?" Chris asked. "That's as old as a counselor in training at a regular summer camp. So other than myself, you'll be unsupervised. You've got half an hour to unpack and meet me back at the main lodge, starting now." He then started to walk away.

Inside the girl side of the west cabin, Xenon was worriedly checking her helmet, pockets, and bag. "No, no, no…"

"Hey, what's wrong?" Chloe asked, noticing her cabinmate's distress. "You look like you've lost something."

"I have," Xenon confirmed. "Oh, this is not good. This is not good at all…"

Before Chloe could ask Xenon what she lost, they both heard a very feminine scream coming from the other side of the cabin. This brought members of both teams to the boy side of the west cabin, just to see what had caused such a scream.

Rico had been the one to scream and he was standing on top of a stool, pointing at the floor. "R-r-rat!"

Sure enough, there was a rat on the room's floor, squeaking innocently as it looked up at the cowardly Rico.

"Kill it!" Sid shouted as he rushed into the room and attempted to stomp on the rat with his foot. The rat evaded his foot, but Sid continued to try and stomp on the rat while it continued to avoid his shoe.

Before anyone else could think of going in to help Sid, a voice caused them all to pause.

"STOP!" Xenon screamed as she ran in and pushed Sid aside. "You'll hurt her!" She bent down to look at the scared rat. "You okay, Ulala?" She gestured for the rat to come to her. "Come here. It's alright, nobody's going to hurt you."

To everyone's surprise, the rat listened to Xenon and climbed into her hand. Xenon smiled as she stood up with the rat, placing it in her pocket.

"Wait, is that rat yours?" Rae asked and Xenon nodded.

"She's my pet, Ulala," Xenon explained. "I planned on keeping her in my pocket or my helmet, but I guess she got out." She turned to Rico. "Sorry, Rico. I think she was just curious."

"I-it's okay," Rico said as he stepped down from the stool. "Don't worry about it."

"Seriously, you have a pet rat?" Sid asked with an obnoxious snort. "And you let it sit on your head? Weirdo…"

Tony also thought it was a bit weird, though he didn't say as such. Instead, he kept quiet.

Miriam walked up to Xenon, who was looking down at Ulala. "I don't think it was a good idea to bring up," she told Xenon. "Any number of bad things could happen to her while she's here. She almost got squished right now, but there are also all the other wild animals that could get her…"

Xenon sighed. "Yeah," she admitted. "It probably wasn't the smartest thing that I could have done. It's just… we're here for eight weeks and I knew that I was really going to miss her and that she was going to miss me. I guess I didn't really think it through…"

"I actually get it," Miriam said to Xenon. "I have pet rats as well."

"You do?" Xenon asked Miriam in surprise.

Miriam nodded. "I have two. Scruffles and Betsy. I left them hope under the care of my siblings."

"Woah," Xenon said. "You have got to tell me more about them."

The other campers, meanwhile, just left the two girls be as they talked about their rats. It was a conversation that they knew better than to get involved in.

Later, the campers had gathered inside the cafeteria. They were being addressed by a hulking black man in a chef's hat and apron.

"Listen up!" he shouted. "I serve it three times a day and you'll eat it three times a day! Grab a tray, get your food, and sit your butts down NOW!"

The campers quickly lined up for lunch, which was a reddish-brown meat-like substance between buns.

"Uh, what exactly is this?" Iris asked, looking down at the meat on her platter with some concern. "Is it sloppy joes? Please tell me it's sloppy joes."

"There's no one named Joe in it… this time," the chef said and Iris couldn't tell if he was joking or not. "NEXT!"

When Rico got his own food, he could barely look at it. He had a weak stomach and was incredibly squeamish.

"Disgusting…" he whispered under his breath.

"WHAT WAS THAT?" the chef asked him.

"N-nothing!" Rico insisted. He started to leave, but the chef stopped him.

"Not so fast, kid!" the chef told him. "You're slim, you need meat on your bones! So here!" He added more of the meat-like substance to Rico's plate.

"Oh," Rico said, looking down at his plate in horror. "You shouldn't have…"

Rae stared at her plate when it was her turn. "Uh… chef? I think mine is still moving."

The chef looked down at Rae's plate. Sure enough, the meat-like substance was still twitching. To fix that, the chef picked up a mallet and brought it down on the meat-like substance, getting some on Rae's face. "Anything else I can help you with."

"No thank you," Rae said as she quickly moved away.

After getting their food, the campers sat at their tables and attempted to eat their lunch to their best ability.

"I feel like there is a joke I should be making with this," Joseph said while looking down at his meat. "But for some reason it's escaped me…"

"Welcome to the Main Lodge," Chris said as he walked into the cafeteria.

"Hey, Chris," Nate said, standing up. "Can we please order a pizza or something?"

As soon as he said this, a butcher's knife was thrown across the room and was embedded in the wall. Nate saw that it had been thrown by the chef, who was brandishing another knife. He quickly raised his arms in defense. "I mean, brown slop is cool! I love brown slop! Isn't that right, guys?"

Everyone else nodded in nervous agreement.

Joseph then remembered something. "You know what tastes better than sloppy joes?" he asked everyone, but nobody responded. "Joe Mama!"

The chef started to aim his other knife at Joseph's head, but then he saw Chris quickly shaking his head and he reluctantly lowered the knife.

"I'm just here to say that your first challenge begins in one hour, so when one hour is up, be ready!" he said before leaving.

"I wonder what they'll make us do," Eli said while sitting next to Leon.

"I mean, it's our first day," Leon pointed out. "It can't be too hard right out of the gate, right?"

Roughly one hour later, the twenty-two campers were in their bathing suits and standing on top of a cliff, the largest in the area, that hung over the lake below. Leon looked down at the huge drop that was before them.

"Oh, fuck."

I hope everyone is happy with how I wrote their characters. This is my first time writing something like this and it's twenty-two characters, but I did try my best to give everyone a moment or two. I will try to make sure that plenty of characters have their moments in future chapters. I welcome your feedback and hopefully I'll be able to write the next chapter soon.
