Two of A Kind
by Dreamstarmaker
This is one of first fully written fan-fiction, that I made years ago. It was based around a character I had made for a theoretical Mario-Sonic Crossover. A half-robot mobian who acted as a bounty-hunter. She was originally just a small side character, but I realized that she had a lot in common with Bunnie, being decidedly inspired by her, and began imagining what might happen if they met. I based the story around the Archie Sonic Comics series (which were a bit past issue 150), that I was reading at the time.
Content Warning: Blood references.
Part 1
It was a warm day at Knothole Village, a little too warm. The sun shone down mercilessly, not caring about all the discomfort it caused. Anybody that could stay inside did. Only those who had to work, or those who were sun lovers bothered to stay outdoors and risk evaporation.
One being in particular, a Bunnie Rabbot, hardly even noticed the heat was frying her fur and cooking her metallic limbs. She was, as far as anybody need be concerned, far away, sailing over the clouds. She had just been with Antione, her 'Honey-boy', in less Southern terms, 'her boyfriend'.
Now Antione had never gained reputation among the freedom fighters for his 'eengrish', but Bunnie found that he knew how to use those words beautifully when he wanted to romance a girl. His occasional spurts of French only added to the beauty of it. Their loving each other, certainly didn't hurt its effect. But, since both were active in the protection of the Kingdom of Acorn, they ended up not having very much time together. Thankfully, the extremely hot weather was so unbearable that King Elias had allowed most of the court to take a much appreciated break. It was doubted that even Robotnik would try to do something, for a few hours anyway.
Both had enjoyed their time together.
"Oh it's such ah lovely day," Bunnie sang out of pure happiness as she walked down the pathway.
Bunnie kept walking, lost in everlasting bliss for several minutes. Finally, she noticed that she was a bit warmer than she should be- by several degrees. She then saw a nearby pond with a large willow tree leaning over it. That water looked so cool and refreshing...
It didn't take long for Bunnie to decide what to do.
"Lovely ol' waterin hole, here I come!"
She ran and jumped into the pond- clothes and all- making a large splash as she hit the water. Bunnie swam up to the surface to retrieve her hat, which was floating on the surface, and tossed it to shore. Taking a breath of air, she then dived back under the oh so refreshing water. For several minutes she lost herself to swimming, enjoying every second of it.
After a while Bunnie came to herself, and reluctantly got out of the pond. It had reminded her of when she had been a young rabbit...
But she needed to get back to Knothole, before some problem or other came up. Besides, all her friends would be there. And she was sure they would find something to do. Not to mention be worried, if she didn't show up.
After Bunnie climbed out, to retrieve her hat, something flashed in the corner of her eye, catching her attention and curiosity. She turned, and caught sight of another flash, coming from the metallic body of a robot. It was sitting right by the willow tree, seemingly unaware of her presence. Bunnie stifled a gasp of surprise, and quickly assumed a defensive position. However, the robot still sat under the willow, not moving in the slightest. Bunnie used the jets installed in her robotic legs to quietly hover closer to the robot, hoping to get a better view of it, while also sneaking carefully up to it. If Robotnik was making more robots, there was no telling what sort of nasty features he'd installed in that thing.
Bunnie carefully studied the metallic creature from a distance, looking for strengths and weaknesses. It bore some resemblance to a roboticized mobian fox- with several modifications. Long jagged spikes protruded from its arms, and long sharp looking claws from its fingertips. Sharp enough to even rip through Bunnies metal joints. It's 'pupils' weren't visible, a sign that it was 'asleep', though it might be faking.
Bunnie decided to attack first, hopefully taking it out of commission. In a split second, she had jumped right at the mecha-fox, her right foot extended in a deadly karate kick.
Before the second was even over, the robots sky-blue 'eyes' blipped open, and it jumped straight up into the willow's branches with an amazing burst of speed.
Bunnie couldn't stop herself in time, and hit the tree hard, putting a very large hole into it. The resulting shock knocked the mecha-fox right out of the tree, and it hit the ground with a crash. Bunnie jerked her foot from the tree and turned to the robot, which had landed on all fours.
Bunnie was furious at the mecha, she had always held a great respect for trees, and hated to hurt one unless she had too.
Her eyes blazed with fury, "Thats it rusty, Ya'lls going down!"
The fox quickly jumped up, and rotated its arm spikes, so they now faced outward like small lethal daggers. Both of their eyes met for a second, then the battle really began.
Bunnie began by soaring into the sky with her rocket boosters, until she was practically out of sight. Before the mecha-fox had time to react, Bunnie descended- feet first.
Wham! She hit the fox with enough force to take out a dozen robots. But even though Bunnie cringed from the force of the impact, the fox was still standing. It had activated a thick metal shield as a last second defence. Not something most robots had. Bunnie immediately jumped off the shield, and gasped as she saw it suddenly dissolve into nothing, the robots clawed hands reappearing in its place.
Sensing that its guard was momentarily down, and not caring about how it had created the shield, Bunnie rushed in and punched hard.
"Take that!" she yelled as the mecha-fox flew backwards from the force.
Bunnie immediately rushed after the 'flying fox' to finish it off, before it could cause trouble. Once she caught up to it, she got ready to deliver the destructive blow.
However, as she went to attack, she felt two very strong hands grip her elbows tightly. The robot jerked hard, sending Bunnie flying away chaotically before she had fully realized what happened. Unlike Bunnie, it didn't chase her down, it simply stood there and waited for her to recover.
Once she realized the robot wasn't chasing her. Bunnie lay where she had fallen, pretending she was more dazed than she was, so she could think of a way to beat her tough and speedy opponent. Then an idea came to her. It was a move she reserved for exceptionally tough opponents, but she figured the mecha-fox was worth the trouble.
She got up from where she had crash-landed and faced the 'fox'. It did nothing, seeming to prefer defensive tactics over offensive.
Bunnie charged up her attack, a full powered laser blast, until her metallic hand glowed with the power of the stored up energy. With one quick motion she blasts out the frenzied energy, right at the mecha-foxes chest.
It hit right on target. The mechanical fox surged from the amount of power hitting it, and then slumped over. As dead as a machine could get.
"Oh yeah, " Bunnie growled in pleasure. "That takes care of ol' foxy. Ah just hope there ain't any more of the stupid things."
Bunnie walked towards the mecha fox, intending to make sure that it was permanently offline. Also, Tails and Rotor might want to have to a look at it, along with King Elias and several of the royal scientists.
When she got about ten steps away from the mecha-fox, it did the last thing Bunnie would have expected. Its eyes flashed back on, only this time the 'pupils' were a furious red, instead of sky blue. The robot then leaped up and unleashed a powerful surge of energy, right at Bunnie. It had stored the energy from Bunnies attack.
The counter-attack caught her by surprise. Unable to get out of the way, she was thrust backwards by its force. Then Bunnie slammed into something, hard.
"Everything going...black..." she mumbled before fainting into the endless darkness.
