Sokka flipped through TV channels, not really paying attention to what was on. His thoughts were elsewhere, toying around with a silly idea that he heard about recently.
"You know how some people do open relationships?"
Sitting on the couch across the room, Suki looked up from the book she'd been reading.
"Uh huh. Why?"
He shrugged, settling on a channel that played sitcom reruns all day before tossing the remote onto a reclining chair. "Could you ever see us doing something like that? They say that regular people do it all the time but-"
"Yeah let's try it." Suki nodded and set aside her book.
Stunned, Sokka watched as she pulled out her phone and began texting. He was blindsided by her answer. The idea had only been a hypothetical to him, but his girlfriend didn't need to be sold on it at all. Truthfully, he wasn't sure if he had thought about it enough himself. If Suki was ready to try an open relationship though, he was willing to try as well.
"What're you doing?" he asked, surprised by the sudden disinterest in her book and how quickly her fingers were moving.
"Texting."
"Texting who?"
"Aang."
"Aang? Why Aang?"
When Sokka thought of his longtime friend, he always pictured a short, scrawny little boy who liked to play pranks and goof around all the time. He still liked to pull pranks, but Sokka had to remind himself that Aang wasn't twelve years old, and he had grown tall and muscular. Some girls even thought he was handsome and charming, which was hilarious in his eyes.
"Oh, he texted me back already!" Suki said with delight. She stood from the couch and hurried towards their bedroom down the hall. "I'd better go pack my toothbrush and lingerie."
"Okay…" Sokka stared at her in open mouthed shock. He didn't understand what the rush was, why she was going away overnight, why she needed lingerie, or what any of that had to do with Aang.
Ten minutes later, Suki left their apartment with a duffel bag over her shoulder, wearing a short backless dress and high heels.
"Have fun!" Sokka said, but he frowned as he watched her go, confused as to her choice of clothing and where exactly she was going.
"I will!" she replied with a smile. "I'll see you Monday morning!"
The front door closed, and Sokka flipped to another channel.
