The only sounds in the house were him sanding his boat and her heels clacking as she descended them.
"Jen, what are you doing here?" He asked, not turning his head to look at her as she walked closer to him. She saw him sanding his boat, his back muscles rippling as his arms moved back and forth.
"How did you know it was me if you didn't look up to see it was me?" She asked him as she walked over to his workbench and stole the mason jar that housed his regular drink of bourbon and downed all of it in one swallow, leaving Jethro looking at her in shock and surprise.
"Damn, Jen, where did you learn to do that?" Jethro asked, not sounding the least bit pissed she just drank all his bourbon in one go. Jen shrugged before sitting on the chair in the corner of the basement and taking off her stilettos. "Don't know, don't care." The Director told her agent in a bored tone, something that had Jethro frowning.
"Okay, back to my earlier question: what are you doing here Jen?" He repeated. Jen held back a sigh.
"I'm sick of being alone at night, I'm sick of walking into an empty house and crawling into an empty bed every night." She admitted to him, as she lifted her green eyes to meet his blue ones. She didn't know she just told him that: it's not like he could fix her loneliness, after all, she's been alone at night for the past six years and it had never bothered her before as she'd liked her own company. But that was before she saw him again two weeks ago in MTAC after six years. After she left him with only a letter in the pocket of the cream coloured coat he bought her.
"What do you want me to do about it?" Jethro asked her as he put his sander down to look at her, his arms were crossed over his chest and his blue eyes were locked on hers, like a boss staring at his employee until she did something he asked if her, which he did quite frequently back in her probie days as an agent on his team.
"I don't know, but I want the loneliness to stop but I don't know how to make it stop!" Jen exclaimed at her former boss as she pinned him with a glare of her own that had most agents scurrying back to their mommies but not Jethro, he never ran away her, she ran from him. Jen sighs.
"This was a mistake, I shouldn't have come here." She said as she slipped her heels back onto her feet and stood up, making her way to the basement steps when she felt his hand clamp around her upper arm gently as he spun her around to look at him.
"Jen, I can't do anything to stop the loneliness that you've been feeling but if you ever need me, I'm here, just remember that." He told her gently. As she blinked away the burning tears behind her green eyes, Jen slid her Director's mask back on and nodded her curtly.
"I will, Agent Gibbs." She says to her agent, her Director persona back in place. She held her head up high as she walked back up the steps and exited her agent's house.
Jen had just poured herself a cup of sugary coffee and had started to do the mountain of paperwork that she had brought home from the office with her earlier that evening when she heard a knock, well pounding really, on her front door. She groaned and walked to her front door where Jethro was leaning against the brick wall, the smirk on his face.
"Jethro, what-" Jen began to ask before she found his hands cupping her face and his lips onto hers in a passionate kiss. She didn't know how long they kissed but what she did know is that she didn't want it to end.
"Jen, when you told me how lonely you were, I realised that I've also been lonely since you left me in Paris, and when you came down to my basement and told me how lonely you are and how you wanted it to stop but you didn't know how to stop it, the second I saw you walk up the stairs and left my house, I felt the loneliness take over me that I hadn't felt that since the day you left me in Paris, and I don't want you to feel lonely ever again." Jethro told her as he stared into her green eyes. Jen smiled before she kissed him again, wrapping her legs around his waist as he lifted into his arms and proceeded to take her upstairs to her bedroom.
"You'll never be alone again, Jen." Jehtro whispered into Jen's hair as he held her naked body in his arms after she'd fallen asleep in his arms after their fourth round of lovemaking. He didn't get a response from her but she muttered something unintelligible and he chuckled before he allowed sleep to claim him.
For the first time in six years, both Director and Special Agent slept until their alarms went off mere hours later.
There wouldn't be any more lonely nights, not if they could help it but due to their jobs they both knew they'd have at least more than 1 lonely night but that didn't matter as long as the other one came back home, no matter if they were bruised or scraped, as long as they were safe and had a house full of love and light.
