In one of the office rooms of Mother Base, Bug Boss waited for the avatar. The fishing trawler Jetfly had dock and the avatar and her traveling companion, Killa are now heading his way. Killa turns out to be a Airbender, like many who have been showing up since the Harmonic Convergence event, that also brought him and his people to this world. And his hopes of returning home is one the avatar being able to do something about it.
Lily the water and blood bender had told them much of this world, and of the spirit world. The spirits are old and know much of this world that have long been forgotten. The one interested him the most is the spirit of knowledge Wan Shi Tong who took the form of an owl. He is an ancient, wise, and powerful spirit who collects information for his Spirit Library. He is the most knowledgeable being among humans and spirits, never missing an opportunity to learn new facts or boast about his vast intelligence. He would be the one who would know about traveling to other worlds, and if not would know where to look. The avatar would be the best bet in getting to the spirit world and speaking with Wan Shi Tong.
The knock on his door drew his attention.
"Come in," Big Boss said.
The door open with one of the soldiers, Henry opening it allowing the avatar Korra to enter. The avatar is a tall young woman who looks like Lily with her dark brown hair and brown skin. She has a proportioned athlete's build with wide shoulders of a swimmer, with a bulky mass to help protect her from the cold of her homeland.
"Hi, so you're Big Boss?" Korra ask her eyes scanning the room. Since coming to the base, she's been seeing lots of stuff that she had never seen before.
"Yes and you're the avatar?" Big Boss ask.
"Yes, I am," Korra said walking in and Henry closed the door behind her.
Korra took the chair in front of the desk
"From what, I understand you came here to find out more about me and my people?" Big Boss asked.
"Yes after news reach us about your people showing up, the leaders of Republic City are worried about your people. So, I'm here to find out more about you people," Korra explains.
"From what we can figure, it's thanks to the Harmonic Convergence event that caused us to appear on this world. We're hoping that with your help we can return back to our own world," Big Boss said.
"My help?" Korra ask.
"I need your help in getting to the spirit world and talking to the spirit of knowledge Wan Shi Tong. He's the best bet in finding a way for my people to get back home," Big Boss said.
"You need me to guide you to the library," Korra said.
"And having you helping to introduce us to spirits would help get things along in finding what we need," Big Boss said.
"Oh," Korra said understanding that line of logic. "Wan Shi Tong does have a price to use his library, you need to provide new knowledge for his library."
"Well we're from a different world, we should be able to find something to give him," Big Boss said.
"So, how different is my world from yours?" Korra asked.
"From what you seen, we're more technology advance then yours. We never had people with powers like yours, at least not on the scale as it is here," Big Boss said remembering some of the special soldiers he had met over the years who had powers.
Your world have people with powers?" Korra asked.
"I had to deal with a man who could fire lightning from his body and had to deal with a man who could talk with the dead and became one after death," Big Boss said.
"Oh," Korra said. "So how advance is your world?"
"We can send things into space, even landed on the moon," Big Boss said causing Korra eyes to widen.
"Wait you can send people to space and have landed on your moon?" Korra asked as a water tribe member the moon is a big part of her culture.
"Yeah but interest in the space program has died down," Big Boss said. "From what, I have seen your world is about how things were a couple of decades ago. Which is 10 years to make a decade which is 360 days give or take. A hundred years ago we were still using beasts of burden as transportation and stream power is the main way of travel."
"Really? It's pretty much the same here. After the war, advancements just took off," Korra said.
"Yes, some of my people who read stories about traveling to different worlds are very surprised in how different and the same your world is to ours. Thanks to having benders, your people have technology that we don't and lack what we have," Big Boss said. (1)
"Like those weapons you call guns," Korra said.
"What do you know of guns?" Big Boss asked.
"They work like a mix of crossbows and a firebending cannon," Korra said.
"Yes but we use these called bullets instead of bolts," Big Boss said dropping a .45 ACP cartridge for his personal weapon the Mk 23 SOCOM he has kept for years.
"It's so small," Korra said picking it up and feel it with her fingers as she rolled it around using her earth bending to feel what it's made out of. "Brass and lead?"
"Yes, but the brass part use a explosive powder to shoot the lead part at high speed at a target," Big Boss said.
"Using a small explosion?" Korra asked looking at the bullet. "That would be far faster then any bow or crossbow."
"Tell me can earth bendings stop the metal head of an arrow from hitting them?" Big Boss asked.
"Only highly skilled earth benders can pull something like that. I have to see it coming just to be able to stop arrows during training. They're just too small and fast to see most of the time," Korra said. (2)
"That's what, I figured," Big Boss said.
"And I'm guessing there are even bigger and more powerful weapons?" Korra asked.
"The most powerful weapon my world has created to date, is a bomb that can destroy a entire city and poison it for years," Big Boss said.
"What?" Korra asked her eyes widen.
"It's a last resort weapon that has only been used 2 times during the last world war," Big Boss said.
"A world war? Like the war with the Fire Nation?" Korra asked.
"Yes but instead of it lasting a hundred years, ours only lasted less then 10 years. But the numbers of the dead is in the millions," Big Boss said causing Korra's mind to race with the idea that millions died in just 10 years, while the 100 year war had it all spread out. "I'm being blunt with you show that there be no surprises or you feeling betrayed because I didn't tell you something. I been doing what, I can to keep my people together with the hope that we can go back to our world, to hold them all together. Without it, many of my people will desert and our weapons will be popping up. The Earth Queen has been trying to get her hands on some guns so that her people can figure out to make them. "
"That be bad," Korra said as the Earth Queen is a power mad tyrant.
"So will you help us get back home?" Big Boss asked.
"Yes, I will help your people get back home," Korra said.
"Thank you," Big Boss said opening his desk drawer and pulling out a wooden box. "Here's a gift."
Korra opens the box and saw a gun inside.
"The Colt Model 1873 Single Action Army Revolver also known as the Peacemaker or SAA is a powerful single action revolver holding six rounds of .45 Colt ammunition often alternatively referred to as .45 Long Colt. The SAA had some drawbacks, it's much slower to reload than the contemporary Smith & Wesson Schofield revolver a top-break design, and difficult to fire rapidly due to its single-action mechanism. Still, it was widely praised for its balance, ergonomics, simplicity, and the excellent stopping power of the .45LC rounds it fired," Big Boss explains.
"But, I don't know how to use it," Korra said.
"You and your friend can stay on the base for a couple of days while, I assemble a team to go with you. While here you can learn more about my world and you can get some training in how to use a gun. I know of the spirit portal in Republic City, just needed someone who can help my people to get into the city and knows about the spirit world," Big Boss said.
"Yes I can help you there," Korra said offering Big Boss her hand.
"Thank you for agreeing to help us," Big Boss said taking her hand.

Author's Notes -
1 - Technology advancements comes from a need to improve on something. Like why would you need to build vast earth moving machines, when you have people who can move the earth around at will?
2 - Earth benders can stop flying metal from hitting them. But only if they're high level and know it's coming and even then they can just be overwhelmed. Like how in Star Wars the Jedis can stop plasma bolts from hitting them, but they have to be aware of their surroundings for them to do it. As being taken by surprise works on anything. And they can just be overwhelm by sheer volume of bolts beings fired at them, like what happen during order 66.
