New Rent-a-Girlfriend story by me, this one focusing on Sumi and Mami. One of these characters is extremely popular with the fans while the other is universally hated! If you have those opinions on these two, I hope you like what I have in store for them! ;)
Disclaimer: I don't own Rent-a-Girlfriend.
"Well this has been fun!" Kazuya grinned. "I had a great time with you, Sumi - as always!"
Sumi smiled humbly as her cheeks turned as pink as her hair. She was just finishing spending her entire day with Kazuya. On Chizuru's request, the boy had taken her out on a date to once again help her practice getting into girlfriend mode. Though hardly a word had come out of her all day, she had dedicated it entirely to making her client happy. Hearing that he had enjoyed himself made the shy, quiet girl feel good.
It always made Sumi so happy to hear that Kazuya had enjoyed his date with her. Positive comments from the boy she relished the company of meant the world to her.
"I'll see you again!" Kazuya beamed as he raised a hand. "See ya, Sumi."
"Um, yes…" Sumi squeaked, finding her voice as she lifted her own hand. "See you later, Kazuya!"
Kazuya smiled as he waved to the kind-hearted girl he was always so gentle and protective towards. Then he turned and began to walk away, preparing to leave the park to head back to his college campus. He couldn't wait to tell Chizuru all about what a great time he'd spent with her fellow rental girlfriend.
With her waves coming to an end, Sumi lowered her hand as she watched Kazuya disappear into the night. The smile remained on her blushing face. She had enjoyed every minute she had spent that day with the boy who gave her so much kindness and support. Not a single date of theirs went by without him being so good to her. Never once did he complain about how shy and quiet she was. He was always so patient with her, giving her the encouragement she needed to overcome her shyness.
Sumi placed her hand over her heart. She could feel it racing inside her chest. The colour in her face changed from pink to red over the way she felt towards Kazuya.
"Well hello there, Sumi…"
Sumi blinked, squealed and froze. Someone had just spoken to her behind her back. It was a voice that sounded very familiar to her. She had a feeling she recognised the tone and mannerisms it had just addressed her with; the very kind which made her feel extremely nervous.
Trembling timidly, Sumi turned to look over her shoulder - before letting off a soft gasp as she tensed up upon recognising who had just arrived to speak to her.
There stood Mami. The young lady who had dared Kazuya for a month before abruptly breaking up with him stood before the shy girl. Dressed in a designer outfit with her hands behind her back, the blonde faced Sumi with the very ever sly, cocky smile she often put on.
"It's been a while, hasn't it?" Mami beamed icily. "How have you been?"
Sumi whimpered and shook her head. She was too terrified to find her voice. The girl she had met on the day Kazuya had first dated her made her feel just as uneasy as before.
"Still a girl of few words, are ya?" Mami giggled. "Don't worry. You don't have to be afraid of me. I don't bite."
Sumi stood where she was rigidly. She didn't know why, but there was something about this girl she didn't like. She had no idea how right she was to be wary of Mami.
"So whatcha doing out here in the park? Have you been on a date with a client?"
The last word Mami uttered in her patronising tone perked Sumi's ears up. She stared at the other girl. She did not recall telling her what she did for a living when they had first met.
"Yeah… I have to confess, I know about your job. I looked you up online to try to find you on social media - and that's when I discovered you're a rental girlfriend!"
Sumi gasped. She was bewildered that Mami had discovered what her occupation was. The shy girl wondered if the blonde had seen the negative reviews past clients had given her over her quiet nature.
"It's okay! I'm not gonna judge and criticise you!" Mami held up her hands and waved them in front of her. "Gotta do whatever it takes to pay the bills, right?"
Sumi said nothing.
"You're a cute girl, so any client would be lucky to go on a date with you…" Mami paused as her smile widened. "I'm sure Kazuya enjoys himself with you."
Sumi's eyes widened at the mention of the boy's name. She could tell Mami was recalling when they had met during her first practice date with Kazuya. She was relieved the blonde hadn't arrived earlier to see her spending that very evening with her ex-boyfriend.
"But if you ask me, you can do a lot better than Kazu."
"Hm?!" Sumi made the single sound upon hearing what Mami had just said about Kazuya in her constant arrogant tone. "Wha-"
"A cute girl like you can have any guy you like?" Mami chuckled, her eyes narrowing. "So why waste your time on Kazuya? Take it from someone who's had a whole month's experience with dating him, Sumi. Don't miss out on getting yourself the perfect guy - by dating a loser like Kazu."
Something inside Sumi snapped. How Mami had used her voice made her find her own. Her hands closed into fists as a frown filled her sweet face. She was not going to stand back and say nothing while this girl said such horrible things about the boy who was always so kind and good to her.
"He-" Sumi uttered, building up her voice as best she could before firing it with full force at Mami. "He's not a loser!"
Mami's smile was instantly wiped off her face as she was taken aback by the quiet girl yelling at her. "Huh?!"
"Kazuya is not a loser!" Sumi insisted, fighting aside her fear of Mami to defend her ex-boyfriend from her cruel remarks. "I will not let you say such a horrible untrue thing about him!"
Mami was stunned. This was the first time she had ever heard Sumi speak. She had never expected to hear the quiet girl's voice, let alone be called out by her.
"Kazuya is kind and caring and generous!" Sumi went on, unable to stop shouting now that she had started. "He is always so good to others and thinking of their needs before his own! He's good to me, good to Chizuru - and I'll bet he was good to you before you broke up with him! You had such a loving boyfriend, Mami - and you threw him away!"
It was Mami's turn to be quiet. For once, she had nothing to say, too staggered over being chewed out by the shy girl.
"And yet, no matter how good Kazuy is to others, he's doesn't see it! He's always berating himself and calling himself a loser - which he is most certainly not!" Sumi's glare deepened. "I realise now why that poor boy has such low self-confidence! It's because he's always being brought down by such vile people like you!"
Mami's mouth hung open. It was shocking enough that someone was daring to criticise up her treatment of her ex-boyfriend. The last person she expected it from was this quiet, mousey girl.
"So if anything, Mami, Kazuya can do better than you! He doesn't need someone as malicious and nasty and condensing as you to damage him the way you so casually do!"
With all her timid, fearful nature brushed aside, Sumi marched straight up to Mami until she was right in her face, her narrowed eyes levelling with the blonde's astonished ones.
"I won't be leaving Kazuya. I'll be staying by his side to protect him from such awful, cruel people who try to bring him down - like youI will never let you speak about him in such a way! Not ever! You try to tear apart Kazuya - and I promise you'll have to deal with me, Mami!"
Having said all she needed to say, Sumi walked off, marching straight past Mami. The pink-haired girl prepared to make her way out of the park, filled with adrenaline over all she had just done. Her heart was hammering at a rapid speed while her cheeks were as red as they could possibly get.
It did not matter how shy, how quiet and how wary of other people she was. Sumi was more than willing to push her timid nature aside to call out anyone who dared say such bad things about Kazuya.
That was how precious the kind-hearted boy was to her.
Mami stood where she was, utterly staggered. The smug smile she had been wearing in Sumi's presense had long been wiped from her face. She was so stunned that she couldn't speak. The shrinking violet managing to find her voice had caused the blonde to lose hers.
She was not feeling angry of vengeful; just completely shocked.
Never had Mami expected badmouthing Kazuya like she always did would result in a shy girl like Sumi ripping her a new one.
Thanks for reading! Hope you guys liked seeing Mami get roasted! Especially by Sumi of all people! XD
See ya! :)
