Part 2: Once Strangers, Again Friends
Bruce heard the doorbell ring. A rarity these days. But he figured it wouldn't be so much for a while. When he got to the door and opened it, he found a man of about sixty-years-old standing there.
Bruce smiled, "Haven't you worn this one before?"
"Not exactly," the man answered. "I'm now that man's son."
"Clever."
"I learned from you."
Bruce smiled. "It's good to see you, J'onn." He invited J'onn in and closed the door behind him.
J'onn reverted to his standard Martian Manhunter form. "It's good to see you, as well, Bruce."
"Can I get you anything?"
"No. Thank you."
"I have sandwich cookies," Bruce suggested.
"Well…" J'onn smiled. "If you insist."
They walked into the kitchen and Bruce retrieved the cookies. They ate in silence for a while.
"Where is Diana?" J'onn asked.
"Out with Max and Helena," Bruce answered.
"And… Terry?"
"Patrol with the team."
"Batman with a team," J'onn mused. "I never thought I'd see the day again."
"For a while, neither did I," Bruce admitted.
J'onn fell silent again. "I… don't know what else to say."
Bruce smiled. "You don't have to. Milk?"
"Please."
They sat in silence for the next few hours. Old friends. Once strangers, again friends. Enjoying a peace together they never thought they would see again.
