Part 7: One More Forgiveness

Bruce was sitting in his study when he heard a knock on the open door. He looked to see Helena Bertinelli standing in the doorway.

Helena B. smiled at Bruce. "God, I you look even older."

"Dying will do that to you," Bruce replied.

"You never know how to ease into a conversation," Helena B. walked into the study.

"Diana let you in?"

"Her and Helena."

"They didn't tell me you were coming," Bruce raised an eyebrow.

"Told them to keep it quiet," Helena B. replied. "Wanted to surprise you." She walked to the window. "Only been here once. Do you remember that?"

"After I cut ties with the League. With a lot of people."

"Yep. That witness and mafia case. Rocco Stangetti."

"Rocco Stangetti."

Helena B. looked Bruce over. "Thanks for your help with that."

"You're welcome," Bruce replied.

Helena B. stared at Bruce for a while. "It's killing Helena to know you're dying."

"I know."

"I'd give my life to give you two more time."

"Don't. She'll need you after I'm gone."

"What can I do for you?" Helena B. asked, trying to keep the desperation out of her voice. "How can I… say I'm sorry for everything?"

Bruce smiled. "You already have. Multiple times."

"But still…"

"I understand, but believe me, Helena. We're fine."

"You promise?"

"You have my word."

Helena B. nodded, "Okay. Thank you." She chuckled a bit. "I guess I… just needed to hear it one more time." Her smile fell away. "Before… you know."

"I understand." Bruce sat, contemplatively. "As for what you can do for me… I can think of one thing."

"Anything. Name it."

"Be there for Helena. And Terry."

Helena B. studied Bruce, her eyes beginning to mist. "As long as I can, as often as I can… you got it."
