ACT 2
SCENE 1: AUDITORIUM
The faint sounds of the GLEE CAST VERSION of 'DON'T STOP BELIEVIN'' beings to play with the original 6 NEW DIRECTIONS onstage and they turn around as followed: ARTIE, KURT, MERCEDES, TINA, FINN, and finally RACHEL as the club begins to sing. There is a desk on the side where their director: WILL is watching their performance grooving along to it
As we get to the second verse one by one the new recruits walk out onstage: BRITTANY, MIKE, SANTANA, SAM, QUINN, and PUCK as they join in on the performance.
Will soon applauds them as they finish the song.
WILL:
Great job guys, you really nailed it this time!
RACHEL (annoyed):
Mr. Schue if I may object!
MERCEDES:
Here she goes again…
MERCEDES rolls her eyes as RACHEL speaks
RACHEL:
While the performance was good, I think our original performance of 'Don't Stop Believin'' was much better.
MERCEDES:
Why? Because you had the female lead the entire time?
RACHEL (seriously):
Yes.
SANTANA (rolls her eyes):
Can it dwarf. My voice is clearly superior to your nasal tone, which by the way I can barely tolerate.
Some of the NEW DIRECTIONS chuckle
RACHEL (scoffs):
My voice isn't that nasally!
SANTANA:
Whatever you say.
WILL:
Guys! We need to stop fighting and come together as a team if we want to beat Vocal Adrenaline. They are the team to beat at Regionals. With all this infighting we're taking away time from rehearsals and giving them the edge to win.
The NEW DIRECTIONS nod in agreement knowing they have to come together.
WILL (smiles):
Alright from the top!
SCENE 2: HALLWAY
JACOB BEN ISAREL, the school gossip approaches RACHEL at her locker after practice.
JACOB (dreamily):
The independent polling company in my Dockers has determined you're the hottest girl in this school.
RACHEL:
Ew.
RACHEL makes a disgusted face and tries to walk off but JACOB follows her.
JACOB:
Have you been reading my blog?
RACHEL (annoyed):
Of course not. You're a gossipmonger and your blog is nothing but trash and lies, many of them about me.
JACOB:
Well you'll be happy to know the one I'm working on right now has nothing to do with you or your rumored lust for Jew-fros. It's about Quinn Fabray.
This stops RACHEL in her tracks as she turns to face JACOB
JACOB (cont.):
Word on the street is that she's in trouble.
JACOB rubs his belly as RACHEL looks upset.
RACHEL:
Where did you hear that?
JACOB:
Are you denying it?
RACHEL (confidently):
Yes.
RACHEL begins to walk away about JACOB calls after her.
JACOB:
Because the same birdie told me you're heartbroken Finn Hudson didn't choose you to carry his litter.
RACHEL turns back around to confront JACOB
RACHEL:
What is it gonna take for you to not run the story?
A smile creeps across JACOB's face knowing he was going to get something out of this.
QUINN is walking through the halls still in her cheerios uniform but fearing her pregnancy being outed, she has a slight stomach that uniform seems to cover but she wonders how long it will be until the school finds out her secret. SANTANA and BRITTANY are standing together watching her walk past as SANTANA notices a lack of confidence in QUINN, something she's never had.
SANTANA:
Is it me or is something up with Fabray?
BRITTANY shrugs.
BRITTANY:
Maybe having Glee Club and Cheerios is putting a ton of pressure on her.
SANTANA:
It seems like something else. Her knee jerked at practice this morning.
BRITTANY (innocently):
Maybe her shoe almost fell off.
SANTANA:
That's not it. If she doesn't step it up I'm taking that captain spot off her.
BRITTANY:
Isn't that Coach Sylvester's decision?
SANTANA:
Please. I'm the obvious choice. I've been picking up Fabray's slack and Sue knows it.
BRITTANY nods
SANTANA (cont):
Come on Britts we've got to get to practice.
SANTANA holds out her pinky to BRITTANY they links pinkies as they walk to Cheerios practice.
SCENE 3: FOOTBALL FIELD
The CHEERIOS are once again running through a routine and QUINN is struggling to keep up. SUE notices this and after the routine is over she signals for QUINN to come over.
SUE:
Everything alright Quinn?
QUINN (lying):
I'm just really tired from glee club.
SUE looks enraged
SUE:
You're only there to sabotage, don't push yourself too hard.
QUINN:
I won't
SUE nods.
SUE:
I'm counting on you Q.
QUINN:
I won't let you down.
SUE lets QUINN head back but still is unsure of what's gotten into her. QUINN looks relieved as she takes a sip of water as the Cheerios go back to practicing.
SCENE 4: CHOIR ROOM
The NEW DIRECTIONS are in their respective groups, The UNHOLY TRINITY are talking together with QUINN holding onto FINN while giving RACHEL a glare. PUCK is on FINN's other side constantly trying to catch QUINN's eye which QUINN promptly ignores but RACHEL notices. SAM and MIKE are chatting together and KURT, MERCEDES, ARTIE, and TINA are grouped together talking as WILL enters.
WILL:
Alright guys. As you know Regionals are coming up and Vocal Adrenaline is THE team to beat.
SANTANA:
We know Mr. Schue, it's all you can talk about. It's exhausting.
WILL:
Well Santana, I keep mentioning it because I want you to take this seriously. If we don't win at Regionals, Glee Club is over. We won't have a next year to try again.
Most of the NEW DIRECTIONS specifically the ORIGINAL MEMBERS get upset by this. RACHEL gets up to take over.
RACHEL:
Fear not my fellow Glee Clubbers, I have the perfect Ballad that will send us over the top at Regionals.
MERCEDES annoyed gets up.
MERCEDES:
Who says you're going to have yet another solo?
RACHEL scoffs.
MERCEDES (cont):
I am sick and tired of you demanding everything. It's about time someone else gets a chance.
RACHEL:
And you really think you can keep up with me?
MERCEDES flashes a knowing smirk as she makes her way down to the front of the choir room and hands BRAD, the piano player the sheet music.
MERCEDES:
Watch and learn little Miss I'm Better than Everyone else.
MERCEDES begins to belt out 'AND I AM TELLING YOU' from DREAMGIRLS as everyone watches her stunned and impressed, including RACHEL. As she finishes everyone cheers thrilled by her performance as MERCEDES approaches RACHEL hands on hips.
MERCEDES:
Thoughts?
RACHEL (somewhat humbly):
It's clear the room adores you. I think if you do this solo it would be a real hit for us at Regionals.
MERCEDES smiles a bit as RACHEL smiles back as the two embrace as the club cheers, the NEW DIRECTIONS are finally on the right track.
SCENE 5: HALLWAY
JACOB is walking down the hallway when he is stopped by Sue who motions for him to go into her office as JACOB does so somewhat reluctantly.
SCENE 6: SUE'S OFFICE
JACOB is seated before SUE who is pacing around him, knowing he has some information that could be useful to her.
SUE:
Do you know why I brought you into my office?
JACOB:
Uh... does it have something to do with my blog?
SUE:
Precisely. Now what story did you have about my head cheerio?
JACOB:
Quinn Fabray is pregnant. I have at least 3 sources confirming it.
SUE is baffled.
SUE:
That's ridiculous. Quinn Fabray would never betray me like that.
JACOB:
Ask her yourself.
JACOB gets up nervously.
JACOB (cont.):
Can I go now?
SUE glares at him
JACOB:
You just really freak me out.
SUE:
Fine. Get the hell out of my office
JACOB runs out of SUE'S OFFICE as QUINN notices him. SUE walks towards the door and motions for QUINN to come inside which she hesitantly does. QUINN takes a seat in front of SUE who is glaring into her soul.
SUE (surprisingly calm):
Q. Why am I getting reports saying that my head cheerio is pregnant?
QUINN tears up getting emotional
QUINN:
I'm sorry Coach Sylvester. I wanted to tell you but I…
SUE holds a finger up to QUINN and she stops talking.
SUE:
You are a disgrace. You're off the cheerios. I can't have a pregnant girl on my squad. I expected so much better than this from you. Return you uniform at once.
QUINN tears up nodding as she goes to change out of the uniform.
While waiting SUE is livid. How could this happen to her squad? And just when she was on the path to winning Nationals 7 years in a row. QUINN enters back in with a box containing her cheerios uniform and hands it to Sue emotionally. SUE takes the uniform.
SUE:
And Q? Get the hell out of my office.
QUINN walks off ashamed with tears in her eyes leaving SUE and the CHEERIOS behind for good, something she never expected to do. Just then the tune of 'KEEP HOLDING ON' begins to play as QUINN walks to the auditorium in tears as the NEW DIRECTIONS are performing the song.
SCENE 7: AUDITIORIUM
RACHEL and FINN take the leads as QUINN stands onstage with them in shock as the NEW DIRECTIONS sing to her, having found out about her being kicked off the squad. QUINN is clearly emotional throughout the number and starts to sob as the song ends. QUINN walks offstage last emotional after the number as she tries to pull herself together to face another day.
SCENE 8: HALLWAY
KAROFSKY is walking through the halls with a slushie passing by many members of the Glee Club who duck, thinking they're about to be slushied. However, KAROFSKY walks towards his target FINN and slushies him. FINN then pins KAROFSKY into a corner.
FINN (annoyed):
What the hell Karofsky?
KAROFSKY (smirking):
Oh, I've wanted to do that ever since fifth grade when you made fun of me for getting pubes. Now that you've joined Lullaby Lee's and insperminated the queen of the Chastity Ball - it's open season.
QUINN (pissed off):
Screw you Karofsky! You're nothing!
FINN grabs KAROFSKY by the shirt enraged.
FINN:
You're going to pay for this dude!
KAROFSKY (matter of factly):
No I'm not.
KAROFSKY smirks looking between FINN and QUINN
KAROFSKY (cont.):
You two don't have the juice anymore. Welcome to the new world order.
With that KAROFSKY exits as FINN and QUINN stand there in shock, they couldn't be unpopular, right?
SCENE 9: CHOIR ROOM
The NEW DIRECTIONS are talking amongst themselves as QUINN is cleaning FINN off with a towel.
QUINN (whispering):
This is a disaster. Our reputation as McKinley High's 'it' couple is in serious jeopardy if we don't find some way to be cool again, Finn
FINN (sighing):
I know…look I'll try to figure something out okay?
QUINN (annoyed, still whispering):
You better. Ever since I got kicked off the Cheerios I lost my rep. You still need yours.
FINN nods, somewhat nervous as PUCK overhears knowing that this is his chance to make a move. WILL then enters the choir room passing out sheet music.
WILL:
Okay guys, as you know Regionals is only a few weeks away and we need to come together as a team. And the best way to do that is to have fun.
SANTANA (making a face):
Fun? Really?
WILL passes out the sheet music.
WILL:
This song is an old school rap classic.
KURT (with distain):
Bust a Move?
MERCEDES:
That really is old school.
WILL:
Would anyone want to take the lead?
The NEW DIRECTIONS are mostly silent until ARTIE speaks up.
ARTIE:
I think I can handle. I have a mad spit game.
WILL:
Alright!
WILL signals to the band as YOUNG MC's 'BUST A MOVE' plays. ARTIE takes the lead but has some help from WILL on the song. KURT rolls his eyes, clearly not as into the performance as everyone else. QUINN is also somewhat hesitant to join on the performance but soon joins in on the performance and dances around. PUCK soon dances with her as the two seem closer than they should be, something RACHEL takes note of. The song soon ends as the NEW DIRECTIONS all cheer.
SCENE 10: HALLWAY
RACHEL is leaving Glee Practice with an oblivious FINN who seems excited about what's to come.
FINN:
You know I'm really pumped about Regionals. If we win, I feel like everything will be okay again. And I definitely need everything to be okay again with the way my popularity's been falling. But it'll be worth it to have Quinn and the baby in the end.
RACHEL, unable to stay silent anymore decides to speak.
RACHEL:
Finn, I need to tell you something.
FINN:
What is it?
RACHEL takes a deep breath, still unsure if this is what she should do.
RACHEL:
I've been noticing some signs…
FINN:
Like posters or something?
RACHEL:
What? No! Like indications that something is very wrong.
FINN (confused):
What do you mean?
RACHEL:
It's about Quinn and the baby…I'm just not sure you're the father.
FINN:
What? I mean who else's could it be?
RACHEL takes a deep breath and says the name that changes everything.
RACHEL:
I think Puck is.
FINN enraged storms back to the choir room, knowing that RACHEL's suspicions might be accurate.
SCENE 11: CHOIR ROOM
PUCK walks in as FINN starts to attack him, demanding to know the truth about Quinn's pregnancy.
FINN (says while attacking PUCK):
You took her didn't you! Just like you take everyone else!
PUCK (defensively):
I don't know what the hell you're talking about!
FINN (yelling):
Don't lie to me! You're the father aren't you!
QUINN (emotionally):
Who told you this Finn?
KURT:
It had to be Rachel.
RACHEL (in fake shock):
What? I didn't say anything.
FINN:
Yeah. It was Rachel. But it doesn't matter. Because you shouldn't have lied to me! Either of you!
QUINN:
Finn…
FINN takes a deep breath.
FINN (trying to be calm):
Just tell me is it true?
QUINN comes forward nodding with tears flowing down her face.
QUINN:
Yes. Yes it's true.
FINN is taken a back and is clearly getting upset and emotional as he backs away.
FINN (pointing towards QUINN):
I'm done with you. I'm done with… I'm done with all of you!
FINN storms out of the choir room as QUINN sobs to herself wondering what's to come next for her as RACHEL looks somewhat guilty for revealing the long kept secret.
SCENE 12: REGIONALS
The NEW DIRECTIONS arrive minus Finn only leaving them at 12 members. WILL is clearly nervous about how the New Directions are going to do without their strong male lead. The rest of the NEW DIRECTIONS seem to be in the same mindset minus RACHEL.
TINA:
Let's face it we're d-d-doomed.
RACHEL, sick of all the negative talk stands up.
RACHEL:
No we're not. Guys we worked so hard to get here and we're not going to let it all fall by the wayside.
BRITTANY:
Maybe we should pay Finn to come back. Money solves everything.
The NEW DIRECTIONS look at BRITTANY in disbelief, BRITTANY smiles back at them innocently.
WILL:
Enough! Guys, Rachel is right. We need to stay positive and let all our hard work speak for itself in our performances.
The NEW DIRECTIONS nod somewhat reluctantly.
WILL (cont.):
Now we're second so we need to put on the best show we can and take this victory home. Okay?
RACHEL nods feverishly as the others agree that they need to do their best.
WILL:
Alright everyone show circle.
The NEW DIRECTIONS get into a show circle putting their hands in together.
WILL:
On 3. One, two, three.
WILL and the NEW DIRECTIONS:
New Directions!
As WILL and the NEW DIRECTIONS are doing their show circle BLAINE ANDERSON, a curly haired warbler is walking with his group when he accidentally bumps into KURT.
BLAINE:
Oh sorry about that.
KURT and BLAINE's eyes meet and there is an instant connection between them.
KURT:
It's alright.
BLAINE:
I should go. But I'll be more careful next time.
KURT (somewhat flirtatiously):
I'm counting on that.
BLAINE smiles back at KURT before heading onstage with the WARBLERS.
ANNOUNCER:
Up first tonight at the Midwestern Regionals give it up for the Dalton Academy Warblers!
The CROWD cheers as BLAINE begins to perform the KATY PERRY hit 'Teenage Dream'. The NEW DIRECTIONS exchange concerned looks throughout the performance. They're good. Too good. KURT is really into the performance, especially because of the lead Warbler. As they finish the NEW DIRECTIONS head backstage.
The NEW DIRECTIONS seem nervous as the WARBLERS are still performing. RACHEL decided to take it upon herself to call FINN knowing the NEW DIRECTIONS are lost without him.
SCENE 13: REGIONALS/FINN's ROOM
FINN is in his room tossing a football up in the air when he hears his phone go off. He looks and sees it's RACHEL so he decides to answer.
FINN:
Look, Rachel if this is about me coming back for the competition, I just don't think I can do that.
RACHEL sighs.
RACHEL:
Look I know you're still healing from what happened between you and Quinn but we really need you Finn. You're the glue that holds this club together.
FINN sighs shaking his head.
FINN:
Maybe I don't want to be the glue. Maybe I just want to be normal.
RACHEL:
Being a star comes with a price. I know that better than anyone.
FINN listens knowing RACHEL's right.
RACHEL (cont.):
But you can't let other people hold you back from doing what you were meant to do.
FINN:
And what's that?
RACHEL:
To be a leader, our leader. I used to think it was me but you're the only one who could help us win this competition and keep the Glee Club alive. You were the one who made this all possible.
FINN once again knows RACHEL's right and takes a deep breath pondering if he's strong enough to face them.
RACHEL (cont.):
I know it's not going to be easy. But you're strong enough to do this Finn. I believe in you.
FINN nods as he hears RACHEL say this.
FINN:
Okay.
RACHEL squeals excitedly.
FINN (cont.):
I'll do it. For the Glee Club. Screw Puck and Quinn.
FINN hangs up the phone as RACHEL celebrates. FINN then grabs his things before rushing to the venue hoping he will get there in time.
SCENE 14: REGIONALS
RACHEL is standing behind the curtain nervously as are the rest of the NEW DIRECTIONS as they await being called out but FINN arrives as many of the NEW DIRECTIONS gasp. RACHEL rushes over to FINN beaming.
RACHEL:
I'm proud of you Finn.
FINN smiles down at RACHEL
FINN:
Just kill it out there.
RACHEL nods as the ANNOUNCER begins to talk again.
ANNOUNCER:
And now from William McKinley High School give it up for the New Directions!
The CROWD begins to cheer as RACHEL takes a deep breath before beginning her performance of 'DON'T RAIN ON MY PARADE'. As RACHEL performs she makes her way through the crowd soon heading onstage. RACHEL then motions towards the curtains during the 'I'll march my band out' line as the NEW DIRECTIONS walk in and head onstage behind her as RACHEL completes the song. The CROWD goes wild.
RACHEL:
Ladies and gentlemen, New Directions!
The NEW DIRECTIONS quickly get in place for their second song which is AMY WINEHOUSE's 'VALERIE' which features SANTANA on lead with BRITTANY and MIKE doing a complex dance solo during the performance. The CROWD is once again impressed by the performance cheering as the NEW DIRECTIONS complete their second song.
The NEW DIRECTIONS then get in place for their final song KELLY CLARKSON'S 'MY LIFE WOULD SUCK WITHOUT YOU' which features the dance moves used in the first half of the year. QUINN's mom, JUDY makes her way through the crowd impressed by the performance. The CROWD cheers them on as the NEW DIRECTIONS hug, coming together for the first time.
SCENE 15: REGIONALS - BACKSTAGE
The NEW DIRECTIONS rush backstage chattering excitedly about their performance.
TINA:
We've got second place in the bag.
RACHEL (excitedly):
Screw that we're going to win this thing!
QUINN begins to walk past as JUDY calls out to her.
JUDY:
Quinnie
QUINN turns around surprised to see her mom.
QUINN:
Mom…what are you doing here is dad okay?
JUDY:
I came to hear you sing. You were wonderful. I'm-I'm so sorry I missed all the other times you performed. Were there a lot?
QUINN smiles a bit somewhat in awe that her mom even showed up but her happiness is short lived when she feels something she knows she shouldn't. JUDY notices the expression on her face and looks back at her worriedly.
JUDY:
Sweetie…say something.
QUINN:
I think my water just broke…
JUDY looks horrified and unsure of what to do.
SCENE 16: REGIONALS/HOSPITAL/WAITING ROOM
VOCAL ADRENALINE are now out onstage performing the QUEEN hit 'BOHEMIAN RHAPSODY' with their star JESSE ST. JAMES on lead. As the performance is going on the NEW DIRECTIONS burst into the hospital with QUINN in a wheelchair.
QUINN (whimpering):
Mom, it hurts so bad.
JUDY:
My daughter is having a baby.
NURSE:
Right this way.
The NURSE guides QUINN, JUDY, and PUCK into the delivery room.
VOCAL ADRENALINE's performance continues as QUINN continues screaming in pain and telling PUCK that he sucks. She also follows the 'Let me go' lines as well as the 'No, no, no, no.'.
NURSE:
Okay she's crowning
JUDY:
Push baby push.
QUINN screams one final time in pain as 'BOHEMIAN RHAPSODY' reaches it's climax. As we focus on JESSE and VOCAL ADRENALINE. We then see the NURSE hand QUINN her baby towards the end of the song as QUINN beams down at her baby girl. The song comes to an end.
QUINN (to the baby):
Hi.
SCENE 17: REGIONALS
The groups are all onstage with their directors, The WARBLERS are alone due to them only having a council, VOCAL ADRENALINE are onstage wit their director SHELBY CORCORAN, and of course WILL is onstage with the NEW DIRECTIONS as they all wait anxiously for the results.
ANNOUNCER:
And now to announce the results of the 2010 Midwestern Show Choir Regional Championship, it's local celebrity, Sue Sylvester!
WILL's face falls as SUE walks out onstage confidently holding up her signature 'C' sign.
SUE:
Thank you. It's been an honor to listen to all of these…special groups. Am I right?
The CROWD cheers.
SUE (cont.):
And now we'll start of with the results…in 3rd place…
The GROUPS hold their breaths hoping it would be good news.
SUE:
From Westerville, the Dalton Academy Warblers.
The WARBLERS nod as BLAINE goes up to accept the award as he and KURT share another longing look before the WARBLERS head offstage.
SUE:
And now for the moment you've all been waiting for. The 2010 Midwestern Show Choir Regional Champions are…
VOCAL ADRENALINE look confident as the NEW DIRECTIONS are sweating it out as SUE pauses looking somewhat annoyed as she reads the result.
SUE (unenthusiastically):
From McKinley High, The New Directions.
The NEW DIRECTIONS and WILL celebrate as SUE hands WILL the trophy hesitantly clearly annoyed by her loss. WILL holds up the trophy as the NEW DIRECTIONS celebrate, proud of how far they've come knowing they had good news to bring back to QUINN, who was still recovering in the hospital from giving birth.
SCENE 18: CHOIR ROOM
The NEW DIRECTIONS put the trophy in their trophy case, including QUINN who is newly president as the NEW DIRECTIONS start to perform a song to celebrate 'LOSER LIKE ME'. The NEW DIRECTIONS pretend to throw slushies at the audience as the audience is covered in confetti. The curtain goes down as we go to curtain call.
