Chapter 2
Sonic was on the run looking for eggman in Toronto Canada while Tails was flying in the air observing Sonic.
Tails: Sonic anything down there?
Sonic: No nothing Tails still no sign of eggman.
Tails: Here I'll scan the entire city with my scanner.
Tails flies higher to get to higher ground to scan the entire city. Then his scanner starts scanning.
Sonic: Anything on your scanner Tails?
Tails: My scanner is picking up...nothing.
Sonic: If he's not in anyplace in this city where could eggman be?
Tails: I don't know I guess we should wait until he strikes that way we can stop him and save this world.
Sonic: Yeah your right but what does he want with this world and why did he come here in the first place?
Tails: Will find out soon enough don't worry sonic.
Sonic: It's getting dark Tails where can we go to pass the night?
Tails: I already got that cover Sonic.
As soon as Tails said that, he pulled out a button from his bag and pressed it to transport his house from there home world along with the lab.
Sonic: Whoah!!!!
Tails: I know right.
They both entered the house, Sonic was in the couch of the living room while Tails went down stairs to his lab, Tails sat his bag down and took out the chaos emeralds and placed them on some holders.
Tails started working on a drone that he can use to see the entire city from above, he equipped it with an alert system that triggers if there's trouble.
Tails: Ok time to see if this invention of mine really works.
Tails goes outside with sonic to see his drone go into action. Tails launches his drone into the air controlling it with a controller so it can go high enough to cover the entire city.
Sonic: Ok Tails you head to the lab and monitor the drones camera so you can see what's going on while I head into the city to keep looking around.
Before Tails went to the lab, he gave Sonic a wrist watch so he can communicate with Tails
Tails: Here sonic it's a communicator so I can contact you wherever you go.
Sonic: Nice well I'm off, see ya.
Sonic was on top of a building waiting until his wrist watch can give him an alarm or Tails for him to communicate. Then his watch started giving out a signal nearby there was danger, Tails contacted Sonic.
Tails: Sonic Eggman's badniks are attacking a store with civilians inside.
Sonic: I'm on it Tails.
Sonic ran to the store that was under attack by Eggman's badniks holding the civilians hostage. Eggman's robots trapped eight hostages. One of the robots pulled out a screen and Eggman showed up in it.
Eggman: Nobody move.
Then Sonic was right behind the robots.
Sonic: What about me Egghead.
The badnik with the screen and the rest turned around to see Sonic.
Eggman: Sonic. Destroy him.
The badnik's pulled out laser guns and started shooting. Civilians took cover under things while Sonic dodged the shoots with ease and homing attacked three of them rapidly before jumping into the air dive kicking the fourth robot. Sonic was standing in front of the fifth robot with the screen that showed Eggman.
Eggman : You may have won but I'll be back.
The last badnik flee from the store and Sonic ran out of the store before he could blow his cover. Sonic homing attacked the last robot before it could get away.
Sonic was on top of a roof and contacted Tails.
Sonic: Tails the situation has been taken care of.
Tails: Excellent comeback to the house will continue tomorrow.
Sonic: Roger that buddy.
The next day...
Sonic was on the top of a building observing the streets until a mysterious figure tapped him in the arm and turned around. The mysterious figure was a guy wearing a green jacket, green shirt, green pants, green glasses, and green shoes.
Sonic: Who are you?
?: My name is Peke, what's your name?
Sonic: My name is Sonic, Sonic the Hedgehog.
They both handshake each other and say.
Peke: Nice to meet you Sonic.
Sonic: Nice to meet you Peke.
Peke: So what are you doing up here Sonic?
Sonic: I'm watching the streets in case there's only trouble.
Peke: So are you a hero too just like me? What kind of powers do you have?
Sonic: Yes I am a hero and I have super speed which is why they call me the fastest thing alive.
Peke: Sonic, You know your watching a school right?
Sonic was confused at what he was staring at? Then a car pulled over in front of the school, a mother dropping her daughter in front of the school, the mother was wearing a blue and green, wrapped dress with a green blazer, tights, and green heels. The daughter was wearing a blue skirt over burgundy leggings with a pink collared shirt, red-orange sweater and a red beanie. The little girl was acting a bit weird and strange that got Sonic and Peke concerned.
Peke: That little girl was acting odd we need to head inside that school and find out.
Sonic: How do you suppose we get in the school?
Peke was thinking until he thought of an idea or came up with an idea.
Peke: (With a smirk on his face) Sonic has anyone ever told you that you got the right size of a kid.
Sonic: (Looking confused) ahhhh why?
Sonic was wearing a blue shirt, blue pants, and a blue beanie along with his gloves and shoes.
Sonic: Peke are you sure about this?
Peke: Of course it's our best shot and your the only one with the right size that can go inside the school.
Peke grabs Sonic and jumps across the building in front of them, then jumps on the lamppost and slides down to the ground, then they walk to the front of the school.
Peke: Well Sonic, Good Luck.
Peke shoots a snake from his hand as a grappler to get to the roof, then pulls out his binoculars with x-ray vision to see Sonic from the inside of the school.
Sonic entered the school walking through the hallway and saw the girl with her friends. Her first friend was a girl with light skin, curly, auburn hair tied in braids, freckles on her face, and green eyes. She has pearl earrings as well as braces and a green beanie. She wears a plaid green jumper with a black choker with a light green stone in the middle with what seems to be a flower inside it, and a white t-shirt that reads "SK8R" in light orange, along with leave green pants and dark magenta slip-on shoes that have a checkered pattern by the side. She has a rainbow friendship bracelet on the right arm and a green and light green slap bracelet on the left. Her second friend is a girl with brown eyes, thick eyebrows, and curly, wavy, brownish-black hair that falls right past her shoulders; her bangs are parted and slightly curled. She wears navy glasses with mini gold hoop earrings and a gold nose piercing. Her clothing consists of a stripy yellow shirt with a small zipper on the top of it, baggy pants that feature pockets and grey sneakers that have blue lacings. She also wears a grayish-yellow watch on her right arm, black nail polish and a rainbow friendship bracelet on the left. Her third friend was is a girl with fair skin, brown eyes with bright purple eyeshadow, and long, straight, brownish-black hair that forms into a brown ombre. She wears a glittery, purplish-pink headband, golden-heart earrings, a purplish-pink turtleneck sweater with purple overalls that feature different colored (mostly in the palette of dark pink and orange) flowers on it. She also has the word "cool" in hot pink stitch on one leg above the flower, and a smiley face on the other. She also wears white socks and auburn shoes, while she has a lavender watch on her right arm and a rainbow friendship bracelet on her left.
Mei sees her friends and walks up to them. Then Miriam waves at her.
Miriam: Hey Mei.
Mei: Hey girlfriends. What is up?
Mei's friend's notice her wearing a beanie and they go up to her.
Miriam: Uh, what's with the tuque?
Mei: Uh, bad hair day.
Abby: Did you, like workout this morning.
Priya: I got you girl.
Miriam: Mei, we gotta talk.
Mei tried to stay calm and put some cream in her face in the process and said.
Mei: Okay
Miriam: Tyler's been telling everyone about the Daisy Mart.
Mei: What?
Abby: He said that your mom went nuts.
Priya: And that you're kind of a perv.
Sonic was following them from behind but not to close overhearing there conversation and realized that mei and the woman that was with her were the ones that he saved in the Daisy Mart that was being under attack by Eggman's badniks.
Mei: I am not a...
Mei took a deep breath to calm her anger down.
Mei: Tyler is an unsecured jerkwad. Words were exchanged. Slightly uncomfortable secrets were revealed. End of story...
After she said those things about Tyler. She saw a handsome boy with long hair that caused Mei's eyes to turn cute and sparkly. Miriam snaps her out of it.
Miriam: Uh, Mei. Why are you staring at Carter Murphy-Mayhew?
Mei: I wasn't.
Mei sees a drawing of her and her crush Devon riding a unicorn that says Mei and Devon ride or die. She grabs the paper off the wall and rips it.
Mei: No!
Miriam: Tyler keeps putting these up. (Sees Tyler) Knock it off, butthead. Not funny, Tyler.
Tyler is a boy with a mole on his left cheek, very faint freckles across his nose, curly dark brown hair, thick eyebrows and brown eyes. He has braces, diamond earrings, and a plaster on his right cheek. He wearsa headband, a white t-shirt underneath a purple basketball jersey displaying the number "15".
Tyler: (Making fun of and imitating Mei) Devon, my precious manly man.
Sonic sees this and cracks his hands and decides to confront Tyler. Sonic rips the paper off the wall and confronts Tyler.
Sonic: Hey Tyler what does this represent?
Tyler: Oh that, that's Mei Lee which is the girl that's right behind you (points at Mei and laughs).
Sonic: Oh and who's this guy? (points at Devon in the picture)
Tyler: And that Mei's secret crushhhhhh.
Before Tyler could finish, Sonic grabs his finger he used to point at Mei and squeeze it hard that it gets him to hold his breath so he won't scream in pain while struggling to release his finger from Sonic's hand.
Sonic: It's not right to bully little girls like her you should always show respect to others unless you don't want to be on the good side.
With that Sonic let's go off Tyler causing him to fall to the ground.
Sonic: Now go before I give you another lesson.
(Tyler runs away crying)
Sonic ran at normal speed so he won't reveal his powers and picked up every paper from the wall and ripping them all up and dumped it in the trash. Mei, Miriam, Priya and Abby went up to Sonic and said.
Mei: That...
Miriam: Was...
Priya: Totally...
Abby: Awesome!!!!
Miriam went up to Sonic and wrapped her arm around him and said.
Miriam: Dude that was amazing. I have never seen anyone scare Tyler like that.
Mei: That was really brave of you. What's your name?
Sonic smiled and said.
Sonic: It's Sonic.
Abby: "Sonic wow". Are you new around here?
Priya: Are you from Toronto?
Sonic: Uhh...
Before Sonic could say something the school bell rings.
Sonic: Oh it's time for class. I'll see you all at lunch.
Sonic went to a classroom and sat in a desk. Mei and Miriam joined him by each sitting right beside him.
Miriam grabs a little piece of paper and writes on it. She then passes it to Sonic. Sonic looks at the piece of paper and reads it.
(piece of paper): Are you from around here?
Sonic writes on it then passes it back to Miriam.
(piece of paper): Yes I am from here.
Miriam writes on it and passes it to Sonic and reads it.
(piece of paper): Flip it over and give it to Mei.
Sonic flips it. Then he gives it to Mei.
Mei takes the paper but gives it back to Sonic because she's trying to focus on math. Sonic gives the paper back to Mei then points at the paper with his finger and that forces Mei to look at it.
(piece of paper): Your mom is outside.
Mei had a shocking look on her face then she turned to the window to see that her mom was watching her from behind a tree.
Mei: No No No. This isn't happening.
A police officer see's Mei's mother and confronted her and said.
Officer: Hi. Uh, ma'am? Hi.
Ming: My child goes to this school.
Officer: Why don't you come to the front office. I'm sure someone can...
The officer grabs Ming's shoulder but Ming backed him off and said.
Ming: Keep your hands off me.
Ming knocks the officer's hand aside then kicks the officer in the leg then said.
Ming: I pay my taxes.
The students in the classroom see this and they get up off there desks to get close to the windows to hear and see. Except for Mei and Sonic. Mei's mother calls out her name while the officer tries to make contact with her but keeps going opposite side of the tree to avoid the man.
Peke oversees this then decides to help Ming.
Ming: Mei-Mei. Mei-Mei help. Mei-Mei, tell him it's me! Mei-Mei!
Peke: I gotta help that woman.
Peke summons a snake from his hand turning it into a boomerang snake.
Officer: I will report you for trespassing.
Before the officer could get any closer to Ming. Peke throws the boomerang at the officer hitting him in the head and falling unconscious. The boomerang returns to him.
Peke: Well that's the end of that.
Back in the classroom Mei was trying so hard not to get angry until her mother presented her with her pads. This cause Mei to get angry until the classroom gets covered in pink dust. This causes Sonic to cough until he uses his super speed to wipe the dust out of the classroom. He then sees a giant red panda in front of him. Mei sees her mom then runs away, Sonic goes after her. Ming opens the window of the classroom to go after her as well. Peke instead grapples himself to the top of the school then tracks Sonic with his x-ray binoculars. Peke uses his communicator watch to talk to Sonic.
Peke: Sonic what's going on in there?
Sonic: Peke your never gonna believe this but I'm in pursuit of a giant red panda
Peke: Wait what? Did you just say a giant red panda? Keep pursuing it don't let it outta your sight.
Sonic: Roger that.
Mei starts running through the hallways while in panda form until she reaches the girls restroom. Sonic sees her runs at normal speed to catch up to the red panda. Mei barricades the girls restroom.
A girl comes out of the stall and gasps loud while seeing Mei in her red panda form.
Girl: O-M-G.
Mei covers the girls face with her hand and slowly pushes her back into the restroom stall to close the door. Another girl knocks on the outside the girl's restroom and said.
Girl: Hey, I gotta go! Open up.
Sonic offers the girl some help.
Sonic: Allow me.
Sonic rams down the door and sees Mei in red panda form climbing out the restroom window.
Sonic: Hey stop!
Red panda Mei jumps out the restroom then runs away. Sonic jump out the window to ditch the cloths that he was wearing for undercover then followed the red panda. Ming also saw Mei out the window from a classroom. Mei was running through the streets while Sonic was chasing her. Peke sees the red panda and Sonic. Ming runs out of the school and calls out to Mei.
Ming: Mei-Mei! Stop!
But Mei didn't stop she kept running. Ming gets to her car and starts it. Peke sees this too and said.
Peke: Crap! I gotta move it.
Peke jumps of the roof. He uses his snakes to swing to catch up to Sonic.
Ming calls her husband on the phone and said.
Ming: Jin. Jin, get home now. There's been an emergency.
Mei was still running through the streets then into an alleyway. She ran in front of two citizens scared and terrified. Mei ran to another direction and found a tight space. She ran in to try to squeeze through. Sonic ran through the alleyway and Peke caught up to him and said.
Peke: Sonic stick to the rooftops to avoid being detected.
Sonic nodded and ran up to the rooftops.
Peke: Sonic I see the red panda.
Sonic: Me too.
Mei got out of the tight space and started running again and saw his crush Devon.
Mei: Awooga.
Before Devon could see her, she ran to the streets. She saw some side stairs on a building and attempted to climb it. Peke and Sonic saw her climb the side stairs of a building. The side stairs were breaking while Mei was climbing it in her red panda form.
Sonic: She's gonna fall.
Peke: I got this Sonic.
Peke shot two snakes one in the upper and lower of the side stairs to keep it from falling. Mei jumps across onto a cafe sign. Peke realizes him and Sonic could get spotted.
Peke: Sonic get to the streets I'll get to the other building.
Peke got to the other building and Sonic ran down from the top of the building to the streets.
Peke: Sonic I'll take the rooftops. You take the streets we can't let her see us.
Sonic nodded and gave Peke a thumbs up.
Peke saw the coffee sign falling. He shot a snake from his hand to grab it before it fell on top of a car.
Peke: I gotta catch up to Sonic.
Ming got out of her car because the coffee sign was blocking the road and took off her heels and ran to catch up to Mei.
Mei was on the run and jumping through the rooftops.
Mei: Gotta get home! Gotta hide!
Peke was pursuing on the rooftops. Sonic was pursuing on the streets. Ming was pursuing through an alleyway.
Peke: You still got eyes the panda.
Sonic: Yeah. But I don't know where it's going?
Mei saw her house and jumped so high to get to it. Peke sees this and decides to stop on the building that he was on. Mei went through the front door of her house to hide. Peke sees Sonic, he summons a snake from his hand to use it like a rope to catch Sonic and bring him up to the roof.
Sonic: Hey what gives why did you stop me.
Peke: I saw the panda enter that building. I assume that's where it lives.
Peke sees Ming running into the building in front of them.
Ming gets too the front door to find Mei.
Ming: Mei-Mei.
Ming runs inside her house to find that the house was a mess. She runs to Mei's room and finds her in panda form hiding under a blanket brushing her fur.
Mei: Don't look at me! Stay away!
Ming: Sweetie it's okay. Mommy is here.
Mei: What's happening to me?
Ming's husband Jin comes in the room.
Jin: What is it? What... What...
Jin gasps as he sees Mei in panda form.
Jin: It's happened already?
Mei stops crying and looks at her parents.
Mei: What did you say?
Jin looks at her wife and said.
Jin: Ming? It's time.
The three of them head inside the temple that's right beside her house. Peke throws a snake with video camera attached to it to listen in on what there saying. Peke puts on an ear phone to hear. Ming opens a small chest then tells the story.
Ming: As you know, our ancestor, Sun Yee, had a mystical connection with red pandas. In fact, she loved them so much that she asked the gods to turn her into one.
She reveals the scroll that was in the small chest.
Ming: It was wartime. The men were all gone. Sun Yee was desperate for a way to protect herself and her daughters. Then one night, during a red moon, the gods granted her wish. They gave her the ability to harness her emotions to transform into a powerful, mystical beast. She was able to fend off bandits, protect her village, and save her family from ruin. Sun Yee passed this gift to her daughters, for when they came of age. And they passed it to theirs. But over time, our family chose to come to a new world. And what was a blessing became...an inconvenience.
Ming smirked.
Mei: Are you serious?
Mei got angry and tried to destroy the portrait that it's part of her ancestor.
Ming and Jin were holding Mei back from destroying it.
Mei: It's a curse!
Jin: No!
Ming: Mei-Mei, no! She meant it as a blessing.
Mei: You cursed us! It's all your fault!
Ming: Mei-Mei, stop! Listen to me. Listen! There's a cure.
When Mei heard her mom say that she calmed down.
Mei: Really? How do you know?
Ming: Because it happened to me.
Mei: Why didn't you warn me?
Ming: I thought I had more time! You're just a child. I thought if I watched you like a hawk, I'd see the signs and be able to prepare. But it's going to be fine. I overcame it and you will too. On the next red moon, you'll undergo a ritual that will seal your red panda spirit into one of these.
Ming shows a red amulet to Mei.
Ming: And then you'll be cured for good. Just like me. But any strong emotion will release the panda. And the more you release it, the more difficult the ritual will be. There is the darkness to the panda, Mei-Mei. You only have one chance to banish it, and you cannot fail. Otherwise, you'll never be free.
Jin looks at the calendar to find when the next red moon will be.
Jin: Let's see the next red moon will be the 25th of May.
Mei: That's a whole month away.
Ming: We'll wait it out together. And I'll be with you every step of the way.
Later that night...
Mei was back in human form.
Mei and her parents were helping her set up her bed after clearing up her room entirely. Jin gave her a plushie toy to sleep with. Mei was laying in her bed to go to sleep.
Ming and Jin: goodnight Mei-Mei.
Ming and Jin left and closed the door.
Ming: This is awful. What are we gonna do?
Jin: Don't worry. We'll get through this.
Ming: No one can see her like this. I never wanted this for her. Did you see how she was in the temple?
Mei overheard everything and started crying transforming her back into a red panda.
Peke and Sonic watch everything from Mei's window. Peke was tearing up a little bit.
Sonic: Peke are you okay buddy.
Peke wiped the tears of his eyes and said.
Peke: Yeah I'm fine Sonic, It was just hard to hear and see that.
Sonic: Hey look on the bright side at least we've gathered a lot of information of what's going on with Mei.
Peke: Yeah we did, but what are we gonna do with it.
Sonic: We should go to my base best for all the answers there.
Peke: Wait you have your own house?
Sonic: If you want you can crash with me and my friend there.
Peke: That sounds great, lead the way.
