Ch 13: conomi islands
"Ok guys, we need to head to conomi islands." Luffy tells his crew as they set sail on one of the Baraties boats. "Why do we need to go there?" Usopp asks.
"It's the island Nami is from, and the current location of the arlong pirates." Luffy explains. "The Arlong pirates, who are they?" Usopp asks curiously.
"They're a crew of fishmen." Johnny decides to explain. "They've been in the East blue for a while, terrozing people." He continues.
"What's a fishman?" Usopp asks again, somewhat confused. "How do I put this…" Yamato decides to speak up to answer. "Fishmen are from fishman island like mermaids, and are more fishlike then mermaids.."
"They're incredibly strong, stronger then most humans naturally." Luffy explains. "Though they're not as strong as me, or at least arlong and his crew aren't." Luffy finished.
"I suddenly have cantgotothatisland-itis." Usopp says cowardly. "Shishishi, don't be silly usopp. You'll be fine, besides brave warriors of the sea have to overcome their fears." Luffy says, trying to inspire his cowardly sniper.
"I-I guess you have a point." Usopp relents. "How much longer until we get there?" Zoro asks. "It'll be a few more hours." Sanji replies.
"Good, I'm gonna take a nap." Zoro says, instantly falling asleep.
"Hey what's that?" Usopp says as he spots something in the distance. "Looks like a cow." Luffy replies, his mouth watering at the thought of fresh meat.
"It's getting a little too close!" Usopp says, panicking. "Ohhh it's a sea king!" Luffy says as its within range. "Let's have it drag us the rest of the way to the island." Yamato suggest.
Luffy, sanji and Yamato quickly get to work and beat up the giant cow and tie ropes to it and have it take time to conomi island much faster then they would've arrived otherwise.
"Ok we're here." Luffy says to the crew, waking zoro up in the process. "First let's find her village, see if a doctor can take a look at zoro's wounds."
The five pirates depart, heading deeper into the island to search for Nami. Eventually they run into a young woman with blue hair.
"Who are you, and what are you doing here?" She asks the five. "I'm monkey d Luffy, I'm here with my crew. Zoro, sanji, usopp and Yamato. We're looking for someone named Nami." Luffy explains. The woman's eyes widen. 'They're here for Nami? Why?' She wonders.
"Why are you looking for my sister?" She questions them. "Oh you're her sister?" Luffy asks. At this she nods her head. "Yes, my name is nojiko." At this moment, heart's immediately appear in sanji's eyes as he sees this beauty in front of him.
"She's apart of our crew! Well, kind of. She did take our ship I guess." Luffy says. Nojiko just nods unsure of how to respond.
"Are there any doctors here? Zoro got pretty injured earlier and needs to be looked at." Luffy asks her. Nojiko nods her head and leads them to cocoyashi village.
Nojiko leads them to the village and the doctor patches zoro up better.
"So what is up with Nami?" Usopp decides to ask. "Why would she be stealing from pirates? And why does she seem to dislike them so much?" He asks Nojiko.
"I can explain it to anyone who wants to listen." She offers. Everyone but Luffy agrees, Luffy decides to go for a walk.
While Luffy is walking around the island killing time, Nojiko explains how arlong arrived years ago, taking over the island and killing their adoptive mother. She explains how Nami had to work under arlong to collect money to buy the villages freedom from arlong and his crew.
"That's horrible…." Usopp says, with his eyes wide. "Well knowing Luffy we'll kick arlongs ass soon enough." Zoro states. Usopp gets a look of terror.
"I have cantfightarlongiosis, it's highly contagious!" Usopp says running around in terror. Yamato puts his hand on usopps shoulder stopping him.
"Calm down usopp, you won't be the one fighting arlong. Knowing Luffy, it'll be him that does it." He says causing usopp to calm down a bit.
"You're right, everything will be fine!" Usopp says laughing nervously. Not truly believing it.
As they're talking to eachother the marines arrived, being led by a mouse-like men. "I'm looking for a thief known as Nami, is she here?" The Beady eyed marine asks.
Nojiko shakes her head. "No, Nami isn't here. What do you want?"
"Oh I've heard from a reliable source that there is stolen money here, about a million." He says grinning wickedly. "Men, search everywhere for that money!" He orders.
As the marines begin searching for the money Nami finally arrives and puts 2 and 2 together, he's working with arlong. How else would the slimy rat know the exact amount?
Yamato and sanji assist Nami with stopping the slimy marines from stealing her hard-stolen money. Nami eventually leaves to confront arlong about the marines, before returning and finally asking Luffy for help.
Luffy puts his straw hat on Nani's head as the straw hats head to arlong park.
