A/N: You just knew this song was coming. It's the name of the chapter title, and it fits Jenny to a tee.

You will soon see...

Jenny waited until NNY had left through the door, and the moment he was gone, she squealed, clasping her hands.

She couldn't believe it. Jenny finally got to meet the mysterious dark figure.

Jenny had been obsessed with NNY ever since she first laid eyes on him. But she didn't know his name back then. He was just the mysterious stranger across the street.

She could still remember the day as if it were yesterday: she had been working in the shop, arranging a bouquet until she glanced out the window, and there he was, standing out amongst the crowd.

Jenny had thought he'd looked so interesting at the time. Yet what struck her the most was how sad he looked.

Johnny, or NNY, had the look of a man who had given up on ever finding happiness, and it broke her heart.

Even though he was a complete stranger, she had felt an instant connection. After all, it wasn't that long ago when Jenny herself had given up on finding happiness, too.

It was the reason why Johnny had featured in all of her paintings lately. Only as a small, indecipherable shape, though, but he had become her perfect muse.

Best of all, he finally noticed her. Jenny had seen NNY several times around the city, such as at the park or the city zoo, and each time, he completely ignored her. Though it wasn't as if she had made an attempt to make herself known to him.

She had been too scared to even try and start a conversation. Besides, he had looked as if he'd wanted to be left alone. So when she finally got her chance to talk to him at the CD Cesspool, she seized her moment.

Now she knew the colour of his eyes...

Clapping her hands in glee, she rushed out back to tell her friends. She had a small greenhouse where she grew all her favourite flowers. Nine Inch Heels played on a radio in the corner to help them grow, but she switched it off, coughing for attention.

"Ladies, I have a special announcement. I'm going on a date!"

No one answered her at first. All was quiet in the lonely greenhouse.

But then a rose spoke. Splendid, my dear. Simply marvellous!

Rose didn't have any obvious mouthparts to speak from. But after a while, Jenny could make out the face of an elegant lady. She waved her leaves around as if they were a pair of hands, and she spoke in a refined accent.

Jenny giggled, twirling her pink hair around her finger. "I know! I'm so excited. My heart's pounding!"

I'm not surprised. He sounds like the keeper. Hold on... is it the same boy whom you met at the CD store, dear? The one who asked about us?

It was Lily who spoke just now, and like Rose, she waved her leaves, speaking through her petals.

Jenny was so lucky to have such supportive friends. They were the only friends she had in the world, which was why she nurtured them and helped them grow.

In return, they gave her their friendship.

All the flowers started talking next, and now Rose, Lily, Marigold, Violet, Lavender, and Hyacinth debated on what Jenny should wear.

You should wear something violet, dear, Violet said.

No, marigold! Marigold chimed in.

Wear lavender, sweetheart. You'll simply look divine in lavender, Lavender interjected.

Jenny tittered, tucking her hair behind her ear. "Oh, you're too kind, Lavender. But no matter what I wear, I will never look good enough. Johnny's so edgy and cool, while I'm just... well, me... He'll never like me. In fact... I wasn't sure if he even liked me at first. He... thought I was stealing his place in line..."

She thought back to the day they met at the CD Cesspool, and NNY looked as if he wanted to murder her.

She was convinced that she'd blown her chances at getting to know him after that. But then he struck up a conversation and had even turned up at her shop today to buy some flowers.

Oh, pish posh, Rose said, interrupting her ruminations. He'd be crazy not to fall head over heels for you, dear.

Yes, you are beautiful, Jenny. Inside and outside, Lily said.

Jenny blushed bright pink. "Thank you...I can always count on you all to make me feel better..."

You're most welcome, dear.

Now go on, get ready. You have a date to prepare...

Jenny smiled, grabbing a pair of clippers. "Thank you all for being so kind to me. Ms. Rose? I'm awfully sorry, but... I have to clip a few stems from you now. NNY bought a handful of pink roses today, and... I need to replenish my stock."

Rose nodded her head, falling back to sleep. No problem, dear. Do what you must. Just don't forget to put that heavy metal back on the radio. Very soothing...

"Of course," Jenny replied sweetly, snipping off a few stems from Ms. Rose.

Guilt flooded her veins instantly. The rose told her it was just like getting her hair cut, but Jenny still felt horrible.

The flowers were so kind to allow her to snip off a few stems. So long as Jenny promised to read and sing to them, then they were happy.

Once she collected a number of stems, she switched the radio back on and left the greenhouse.

Now the sound of angry, loud music filled the small glass building.

It seemed to put the flowers at ease, though. Jenny sighed, leaving them be as she returned to her shop.

She had to prepare for tonight after all if she wanted to impress NNY.

Guys like him didn't come around often.

Jenny gazed at her reflection in a full-length mirror, hoping that NNY would like her dress.

Who was she kidding? Of course he wouldn't like her dress. He was dark and mysterious, whereas Jenny was bright and cheerful.

But she couldn't help herself. She just loved bright colours.

They made the world a better place.

She opted for a pink tulle dress, going for the ballerina look. She even wore a matching bow and silk pumps with pretty ribbons.

It just wouldn't do. She had to change into something else, but all she had were pastels.

Jenny didn't own anything black at all.

She couldn't mess up her chances with NNY. After all, she wanted to be more than just his friend...

Hopefully, their date would lead to something more.

Before she had a chance to change, someone rang the doorbell downstairs, and it was now or never.

Jenny took several deep breaths, then grabbed her beaded bag. Then she left her bedroom, cutting across the apartment.

Just a flight of stairs kept her away from NNY now, and this was it...

Their first date.

Hopefully, they would become more than just friends after tonight.

She climbed down the stairs, rushing to the door. She actually lived in the apartment above her shop, so it was pretty convenient.

That way, she could get to work much faster every day.

"I'll... be just a moment," she said through the keyhole, hoping he wouldn't mind waiting.

There came a shuffling of feet, and then NNY's voice could be heard loud and clear. "All right. I'll just wait out here."

Jenny sighed, peering up at her reflection in a mirror. Well, no point in dilly dallying. It was too late to change now.

She let the air back in through her nose, saying softly to her reflection. "You can do this, Jenny. It's just one date."

And hopefully many more...

Her heart thumped through her ears, and she tried to calm it down. Why was she so afraid? It wasn't as if NNY was going to kill her anything.

No. She was more afraid of his rejection. What if he changed his mind about her and decided he didn't want to go on a date with her after all?

However, she knew he would let her down gently, or just never call her again like all those other guys.

Finally, she opened the door.

NNY waited on her front stoop, turning her way. If she wasn't mistaken, he looked as nervous as she was.

Nonsense. What did he have to be so nervous about? Especially someone as bold as him.

The way he'd stood up to that mean cashier at the CD Cesspool... Jenny never would have been able to do such a thing.

She was a true coward, letting everyone walk all over her.

NNY was everything she aspired to be.

"H-hey..." NNY greeted sheepishly, glancing down at his feet.

Jenny closed the door a little, peering at him through a small gap. "Hi..."

An awkward silence followed. NNY sighed, stepping down the stoop. "Well, ready to go?"

She shut her eyes, taking another deep breath. "Yes."

Jenny opened the door the whole way now, and NNY completely froze. She hugged herself, wishing to disappear.

Why was he staring at her like that? Did he not like her dress after all?

He stammered, and then his pupils turned the size of saucers as he wouldn't stop staring at her. "You... you look..."

She squeezed her eyes. "I know. Ridiculous. It's okay. We don't have to do this if you don't want to. I'll... go back inside."

And cry by myself all night.

NNY crashed back to earth, and an incredulous expression took over his face. "What? Don't be so stupid. You look amazing!"

Jenny blinked in surprise. "I do?"

He stammered, unsure of what to say. Then he turned bright crimson.

It appeared she'd left him tongue-tied.

Jenny looked at the floor. "Sorry. I didn't mean to put you on the spot. I just... I was just making sure you still wanted to go out with me."

NNY lifted his head, and he truly looked at her this time. The smallest of smiles spread across his face.

"Of course I do, Jenny. Nothing has changed."

Her heart fluttered. "That's such a relief. I was really looking forward to tonight."

His grin widened. "Yeah... me too."

Now crickets chirped.

NNY turned up the street. "Well... guess we should get going, then."

Jenny followed him, and now they walked side by side.

There were a number of people hanging around the streets tonight. It was one of the reasons she seldom left her apartment.

The people of the city were scary.

But she had NNY by her side now. He would keep her safe from the denizens of the world.
