"He will amount to little, if not nothing." The father sneered at the newborn baby in the midwife's arms. It was foolish, but he blamed the baby for his wife's death.

The little boy of seven standing next to him looked at his father, then at the baby. "Why, father? He looks like he could become strong. I can help him-"

"No." His father said firmly, eyeing the baby distastefully. "He will train on his own. I will be surprised indeed if he becomes as great as I know you'll be." He smiled down at the boy at his side, then turned and walked out of the room, leaving the seven-year-old frowning after him.

The young boy turned back to the midwife and walked up to her, taking the baby awkwardly, but carefully, from her and climbing into the rocking chair behind her. Looking down at the baby boy in his arms, Boromir stroked the baby's cheek with a finger, murmuring softly, "Don't worry, Faramir. I'll love you enough to make up for him."
