I thought I should write a random ficlet to kill off Hermione's parents. I don't know what song the lyrics are from; I was listening to the radio. No, this is not because my parents are being aya right now, it's utterly unrelated.

I got a hole in me now A scar I can talk about

Finally, the Gryffindor genius has experienced tragedy. Her home life is no longer perfect, her grades no longer the only thing that can scare her.

How is she taking it? No one knows. She has no diary to steal, no best friend to cross-examine. There are no clues in her expression to give away whatever she might feel.

I'm all right I'm all right It only hurts when I breathe

No one is quite sure what to do. She doesn't _seem_ upset that her parents are now divorced. Her schoolwork hasn't suffered- but that would be the last thing to go, as it were.

Her teachers are worried. A girl with a stable home life, instead of one Christmas present, got two cards and a notice from the Muggle person called a lawyer asking which parent she wanted to stay with that summer. A bit of a shock to all involved, hey?

It's not often that the head girl faints in the middle of the great hall, or at least not this one. She is known for being levelheaded and taking things well. Maybe the malnutrition from studying for the NEWTS didn't help, but still.

So, they know that she is upset, or was upset, or surprised, or angry. Or something unknown that no one has yet guessed. And she doesn't know why they've split up- there was no forwarding address in the note and the owls don't know where to go.

Her only way to find them again is to visit the lawyer in York; the only members of the staff that can be trusted in Muggle company are few. There is the Headmaster, by his unique everything-is-all-right charm, Professor Snape, (pure snarkiness triumphs), and Professor McGonnagal. And can you see that being anything other than normal?

"An eighty-year old witch has picked up _some_ things in her life, Miss Granger. Don't be silly, I would be delighted to come along with you." Musing out loud to herself, she frowns, "Especially seeing that I don't think the poor Muggles would know what to make of the headmaster- they hardly ever do- and Severus would scare the poor man half to death."

She was obviously nerving herself up to venture out into the horridness of a shire town- and _lawyers._ Although she was a bit happier once she saw the lawyer.

:Damn, he's cute.:

:Please tell me she's not leering.:

A random short for the sake, but I would love reviews; I'll come by and look at yours, too.
