INTERLUDE...

The cavernous room gleamed dimly as the light of a flickering candle bounced of the shimmering pearls that graced the clam shell bed. "Sesshoumaru-Sama," a tiny voice came from beneath a mountain of satin pillows.
Golden eyes observed the small person huddling in bed and clutching his tail. "Hai,"
"Arigato, If you had not saved me when you had, Kohaku would have killed me for sure. I do not want to die again, Sesshoumaru-Sama," The tiny fingers clenched against the abundant fluffiness that was Sesshoumaru's tail.
"Rin," Sesshoumaru said and brought his right hand to rest upon the child's small head. His long elegant fingers could have easily crushed the delicate skull. "You need to rest."
"Can you tell."The child paused as a yawn captured her interest. "Can you tell me the story of the great King who fell in love with a." Another yawn slowed down the bleary eyed cutie. "A commoner and had a wild son. With a big mouth and a bad attitude? Can you tell me that one again?"

"You need sleep now. Perhaps some other time," Sesshoumaru said.
The child clamored out of her cocoon of blankets and raised her arms expectantly. Sesshoumaru obligingly wrapped his right arm around her before tucking her back into the mountainous heap of blankets. Oddly he was worried about the draft in the castle, even though he had covered the large picture windows with velvet curtains.. "Good night." The child yawned and sighed, "Papa," Rin smiled and drifted off to sleep.
Sesshoumaru blew out the candle and walked tot he door. His slippered feet were soundless on the marbled floor. As he paused and looked back at the bed, the moon shone brightly on the innocent babe lying asleep in the opulent room. "Hmmmmm," He thought, "Papa." Sesshoumaru smiled and quietly shut the door.
