Session 27:

Memories

By Matt

I am now a Gackt fan. Blame Jacey. She got me wanting to hear Hoshi no Suna, and I got Dybbuk and Orenji no Taiyou along with it. Anyway, yes, the title, as per Bebop norm, is from a song title (Gackt, actually). And this was written to get over my HP writer's block. So far, no good. Oh well. So, onward to the fic!

Disclaimer: I don't own Cowboy Bebop (I wish...) or Gackt (I'd give him to Jacey) or any of his songs. So follow the path of the ancient Chinese lawyer, Dun Su Mi. I thank you. (And yes, I do in fact know the difference between China and Japan :-P)

Prologue: Genzai Mo

Fukaku fukaku genzai mo,

Sou... Aishiteiru.

Deeply deeply even now,

Yes... I love you.

-------------Hoshi no Suna (Gackt, Crescent album)

            It had been ten years.

Ten long years since Spike had died. Shortly afterward, Jet and Faye had drifted apart. She, to the casinos, he, to who-knows-where. Faye sometimes wondered what would have happened had she not left again. What if she had paid more attention to those twinges she was getting, instead of running away from the cause?

She would never know, now. Jet was missing, nowhere to be found. She had searched everywhere, checked with acquaintances, even scoured Ganymede for information. But unfortunately, he was nowhere to be found. Her best lead came from Bob with the ISSP, who had told her Jet had resigned bounty hunting... even turned his resignation in to Bob.

"You must be joking," she had said. "That's his livelihood!"

"Unfortunately, I'm not," Bob had replied. "Maybe..." he had hesitated here. "Maybe he decided he didn't need a job anymore. He always talked about what he would do when he grew up when we were kids together. He said he'd put aside a secret stash of money so he could disappear and live off of it." He had shaken himself out of the memory of days long past. "But neither a job with the ISSP nor bounty hunting would give him enough money to do that."

Faye had left him to his thoughts and gone straight to Tijuana. She questioned everyone living there, but Jet was nowhere to be found there.

Faye sat up suddenly, jerking out of her memories and thwacking her head on the ship's cockpit roof. She didn't even feel the pain in her head. What if, she thought, he went to an abandoned settlement? She knew for a fact that there was one on Pluto, and its air reserves and energy supply would last much longer than Jet's lifetime.

She took of and set course for Pluto. When she had entered hyperspace and was finally on her way, the delayed reaction from hitting her head caught up with her. "OW!"

But pain was nothing much. She was on the way to finding her love again.
