Universal Cloth
In the universal cloth, the stitches are all undone,
and the edges of every player frayed and torn
through the seams. Clinging to unravelled destinies
like threadbare blankets in a winter's night,
characters play their parts on a tapestry mended once
too often, patched and mismatched, speaking torn lines
where the words have come undone in a multitude of
colored string, all tangled and spliced unevenly together.
In the storyteller's too oft rewoven skein,
where slashing is as apt to mend as skilled repair,
a world hanging by a loose stitch pulled too far
might find salvation in a twisting needle.
