Tears of Farewell
Minas Tirith, Gondor
I stand here on the balcony of the highest tower of Minas Tirith, watching my father fade into the distance. Memories invade my head. I remember my childhood, when my mother and father were both here in Arda. My mother long ago passed into the west; my father goes now to join her.
I also remember that day, more than thrice twenty years ago, when I met Aragorn. I still laugh remembering how he called me Tinuviel. Then an image of my father snakes its way to the front of my mind. I see again the sadness in his eyes as we embrace for the last time. I realized long ago what my choice meant. I would die and pass beyond the Halls of Mandos. My father and I are separated forever.
A tears slides down my cheek. The air suddenly seems cold to me. Perhaps it is the feeling you have when you no the past has slipped away and can never be changed, but I do not regret my choice. I will find love and hope in the future. I have a daughter now who is two. I am thankful she met her grandfather and yet sad for she will never remember him.
I am looking west now, into the annĂșn. The world is no longer as it was when I was a child. Most of my elfin kin are gone, though some remain.
My eyes glisten in the failing light of Anor. I watch the horizon and say:
I amar prestar aen
Han mathon ne nen Han mathon ne chae A han noston ned gwilith
The world is changed. I feel it in the water. I feel it in the Earth. I smell it in the air.
* The poem comes from the Fellowshp of the Ring movie. I didn't write it.*
