Never Again
The horrified blonde vampire looked at his love. She died to save the world, to save Dawn. He knew he should have protected both women, but he failed. He knew he could never do it over and save them. It was her fate, her destiny. No will ever know what happened that day or any other day when
she saved some innocent bystander or when she saved the world. Over and over she did her job, to fight evil, to put her life before others. Yes,
her Mother died, it was horrible. The pain and the suffering was unbearable, but she made it through. Buffy Summers, The Slayer, The Chosen One, what did it mean now that her limb lifeless body was before him. He knew she would never wake up from that deep sleep. He knew he could never
save her now. He knew a lot but it didn't help the pain the feeling of emptiness and helplessness. He hurt and he ached. He wanted it to end. He would wake up any minute knowing that Buffy was still alive. He would find her and take it all in, he scent, the clothes she wore, her blonde hair, the look of betrayal and pain in her eyes of all the years she had been The Slayer, he would just take it all in. But deep down in his unbeating heart he knew. He knew he would never do it again. To see her smiling face, to see her fight another vampire or demon, to give Dawn a big hug and tell her how much she loves her, to ask him to watch Dawn, to ask him if he would go patrolling with her, maybe one day to hold her in his arms, and to save the world once more. Yes, most of the time she hated being The Chosen One, to fight demons and always put her life on the line for people she didn't even know, but she did. She did it everyday. Spike, the vampire, looked at her friends as tears came from his eyes. None of them could actually believe Buffy was gone, forever. They just stood there as Dawn came down from the Tower. She knew Buffy was gone, it was her fault, but no one would let her believe that. She walked slowly over to the rest of the group, not wanting to see her sister's body. She just lost her Mother and now her sister was gone. She had no family. She looked at everyone as tears welled up in her eyes, her sister was gone. Spike knew he should have saved Dawn, but dreams
and fantasies would not help Buffy now, it would help no one. He didn't want for it to end this way. He never thought Buffy would do something like
this. After all she didn't like death, even though it was her Gift. He would have killed everyone on earth to save her life or just have one more chance to save Dawn. The tears spilled and spilled. Their beloved Buffy was
gone, they didn't know where, all they knew was that she was gone from
their lives, never to return. Who would save their lives now? Was there anyone who could make the pain stop and goes backwards? Was there anyone
who could help them find the pathway back to sanity? They all hoped the pain would vanish, but it wouldn't, it couldn't, their loss had been too great. Spike trembled as he saw the body again. He felt so guilty. He would
have staked himself, but he knew Dawn needed him, to at least try to protect her now that he failed in all tasks but one. They all tried to keep from dying as they saw Buffy's pale, cold, lifeless and soulless body into
the cold ground only wearing black, the color of death. Even though it wasn't there and they couldn't see it they knew her soul was bright with
pride and dignity. They watched for as long as they could and went home crying, never stopping to think never stopping to breath. They never again want to see that cold lifeless body that once held a young courageous woman
full of life and power.
Ashes to Ashes, Dust to Dust.
