"Wake up Rose!"

I shot up in bed expecting something terrible by the urgency in their voice. I looked around my room and there he was. Nathan, my little 8 year old brother. He had was already dressed and was looking excited for some stupid reason probably.

"What is it Nathan?" I mumbled wiping my eyes, "It better be good"

Nathan came around and sat at the foot of my bed, looking at me with those baby blue eyes of his. Nathan got all of the good traits from our parents. At least that is what I thought. He had the dark brown curly hair, baby blue eyes, and a beautiful smile. I, on the other hand, and black straight hair, and hazel eyes, with a nice smile. Not glowing like his.

"Ye promised me ye take me down to the docks! I want to see a pirate!" he whined.

He had that mischievous gleam in his eye, the one he got from me. I could tell that he really wanted to see a pirate. More then likely he will see some drunks, some ragged ship hands, and maybe a captain for a vessel here, no pirates. Just to let him have a little excitement in this boring town I nodded. Nathan ran up to me and threw his arms around my neck.

"If I see a pirate I'll protect ye," Nathan inquired after letting go of my neck.

"That's nice to know," I laughed, "now go on and let me get dressed"

Nathan scrambled out of my room, smiling madly, going to tell Grandpapa. I got out of bed and opened the curtains. The sun shone through.

"Another magical day in Port Royal." I sighed going to look at my dress selection.

After five minutes of looking at all of the varieties of colors I picked out a simple beige colored dress that completed my hair. Ugh, I thought as I shuffled over to the mirror, please don't let it be a total disaster. Luckily, it was only a minor one. I threw it up in a bun with a few strands hanging down. As I was putting on my necklace Nathan came running into my room.

"Ye girls take way to long getting ready," he said smirking.

"It's a curse really." I mumbled smacking him upside the head with a pillow, "C'mon let's go."

"Finally." he said under his breath.

As Nathan ran down the stairs I took my time. I grabbed my purse and put my favorite book in, Romeo and Juliet. Every man I seemed to meet didn't get that I loved my books more then anything. They seem to just think that a women should cook, and clean. Not read nonsense. As I walked down the stairs I saw Grandpapa looking over a map. He looked up and saw me, he put down his map.

"If only your parents were here to see how you matured."

My heart tightened when he said that. I was only 15 when they died, Nathan was only 5. Luckily, Grandpapa didn't see my pain, I didn't want to get all sad and depressed. Nathan ran in the house looking at me anxiously.

"Grandpapa," I said, "Nathan and I are going down to the docks. Then I'm going to make a stop at the bookstore."

On that note Nathan groaned. I shot him a glare that shut him up immediately. No one appreciates me reading, I thought looking at Nathan. All Grandpapa did was smile and nod. His trademark "I'm not really listening but you kids have fun" smile and nod. Nathan ran up and grabbed my hand dragging out the door.

"Be back for lunch!" I yelled as Nathan dragged me out into the street
