The raven flicka opens her petite oval eyes and blinks them several times.
The dream-like fog lifts from her fuzzy vision as she looks around briefly. She
erupted with a bit of a coughing fit trying to rid herself from the birthing
fluids. Where was she? It was so cold outside. Fluids dribbled from her
nostrils as she feels her blood star to course through her veins. Someone was
licking her...Who? She looked up and saw a large mass hovering over her as if it
were to say 'I'll protect you.' The filly struggled to see this female better
and awkwardly tried to stand. She failed the first time collapsing onto the
fresh stick-like materials. Frustrated she tries again and makes it. She stood
in a saw horse position afraid to move any one of her gangly limbs. She starts
to bleat softly to the gray one, afraid to take a step. The mare nickered
encouragingly and nudge the filly gently as if to say 'It's okay, you can do
it.' One limb, then the other the filly slowly makes her way towards the mare
and is guided for her first milk.
Getting her fill of the mare's milk she began to understand that this one would
protect her and would tell her right from wrong. She ungracefully fell into a
heap onto the straw and nestled her muzzle against her chest. Brown eyes
hide as sleep succumbs the exhausted filly.

Mat Browner walked down to the the next morning to check on his mare Skydancer.
They had recently just bought her and found out that she had been bred to the
famous Black Stallion. She was heavily in foal when she arrived and seemed to be
due any moment. He started to fill the feed buckets of annoyed schooling mounts
and sighed. Work and horses should not go together he though. He chuckled at
himself for complaining and fed the horses. At last he arrived at Skydancer's
stall with her feed and poured it into her bucket. He did a double take and saw
the coal black filly between the mare's legs. He looks at the mare and shook his
head. He was not ready for this. He went to call the vet and returned gazing at
the napping filly. She would be named later.. He had to get his schooling charts
set up for the riders.
An hour later, the door to his office opened as a tall wiry built woman enters
the room. He looked up from his stack of papers and smiled. "Susie, how are
they?" He looked at her beautiful frame and thought how cute she was
wearing her glasses. She leaned against the door frame and held her supplies in
hand. "Mat, both mother and filly are fine, but she's a big one I'll tell
you." He smiled and said his thanks. "I guess you'll just bill
me...." She interrupted and shook her head. "It's fine, this one's on
me. I got to go to the Jacoben's and check out their cattle I'll see you
around." She smiled and left the office as Mat made his way towards the
foaling stall he had set up for Skydancer. He saw the little filly and laughed
as she had hay all over her soft downy fur. She was perfect.

What is it? The funny looking thing earlier had rubbed it's hands over my back
and sides. She did the same thing to the gray one and she didn't mind. The filly
looked at the man that stood at the partition of the stall doors. Curiosity got
the best of the filly as she bumped her nose lightly against the man's hand. Interesting,
he had a sandy brown coloring on top of his head unlike the rest of his body
where he wore a white pelt. She backed away from him and hid behind the mare.
Her lobes flicker in every which direction hearing the soft crooning voice of
the man. She twitches her brush like tail and nickers lightly as if to say, here
I am.
