A young woman lay sleeping in peaceful and happy dreams, a slight smile on her face.
Slowly, the woman opened her eyes, blinked a moment and sat up. It felt like she'd been in a very long and very deep sleep. The kind of sleep where you don't quite know where you are or who you are when you awake. Indeed, the young woman couldn't remember who she was.
She looked down at herself. A sleeveless black bodysuit scattered with stars covered her from her neck to where it disappeared into a pair of silver boots. With a flash, she saw someone giving her the starry material, to always be able to find the smiling people that gave her the gift. Who were they? Why couldn't she remember?
The young woman rubbed her eyes, then held her hands out in front of her. There were silver bracers running from her wrists to a bit below her elbows. A slight frown settled on the woman's face as she ran one hand lightly along one of the bracers. There was another flash, and she could see a beautiful woman with long black hair and sparkling blue eyes. The woman in her vision is wearing a costume of some sort in red, white and blue, and had the same silver bracers on her wrists. She could tell that this woman was important to her, but she still couldn't remember anything.
As the woman sighed in frustration, she felt a sudden, sharp pain in her chest. She brought one hand up to find a small hole in the fabric of her suit in the center of her chest. There was a another flash larger than the previous two and images began coming almost faster than she could register them.
There was a conference room with several other costumed heroes. Another conference room with a younger group of heroes, including a girl who wore the same symbol and silver bracers as the woman in her last vision. An attack by a mysterious android girl. Another android, this one of a man clad in red and blue with an "S" symbol on his chest, attacking the group of heroes. One by one the heroes fell, until only she was left. As if in slow motion she saw her fists pummeling the android over and over. She paused, and she could see the beam shoot out from the android's remaining eye towards her.
"No!"
Donna forced herself to open her eyes and take one shuddering breath after another. She remembered. She was here, she was NOT dead, and she remembered everything!
The young Amazon finally took a good look at her surroundings. She seemed to be in the ruins of a Greek temple, but all she could see beyond the columns was an endless expanse of stars. What must have happened to her friends when that beam hit her? For that matter, what had happened to her? Donna fingered the hole in her costume. Those androids were designed to mimic Superman's abilities. By all rights she should be dead. But she wasn't, was she?
Looking up to the stars, Donna's eyes welled up with tears of frustration. "I have to get home." she whispered. "To Diana… and my friends…"
The stars twinkled as if in response and a soft voice whispered to her. "All will be well again, Child of Titans. Lay down and rest."
All at once, it was all Donna could do to hold herself up. She lowered herself to the ground and pillowed her head on one arm. She thought idly that she probably ought to be more concerned with getting home, but it was so hard to be concerned with that soothing voice telling her what to do
"Rest yourself and all will be well," the mysterious voice assured her. "You will be back with your family in time."
Donna smiled as she fell back into a deep sleep. "I will be back…" she murmured before she was again lost to dreams.
