Roads and paths long gone untrodden

Memories and events better left forgotten

Lives and things more important lost

Souls and all for one large cost

I listen now to the waves of the sea

It pains me so to know I will never be

Happy again, though I long to once more

And the only way is to sail to Western Shores

To leave my friends, my family, my home

My uncle and I the only of our race, we will be alone

I see the tears, the hurt in their eyes

They smile, but it doesn't help when I know how they're feeling inside

Merry, dear Merry, my best friend through all

I look upon you now and I can see the changes that you did befall

You were once as carefree as I

That was before all this, the great Eye

You will live a full life, though we will never meet again

To you and whomever you wed my blessings I give

And Pippin, good Pippin, my young Thain to be

May you live your life to the fullest and put me safe in memory

For there I am certain I shall forever be

My dear sweet Took, I love you so,

As brother in blood and friendship you know

Never again will I hear you laughter ring

To you and your children blessings I bring

And finally I turn and look upon the one dearest to me

Sam, faithful Sam, more than once you saved me

I cannot find words to express what I feel

You were there for me, though my wounds could never heal

To you, and your Rosie, to Elanor fair,

I shall pass to the West, and await you there

Farewell my friends, my home, my land

I go now to be happy again

The clouds will part and the sun shall shine

And I go the land where all is divine

A/N: The end scene of RotK, both in the book and in the movie, made me tear up. I read this after I wrote it and I felt the same way. I wanted to express what Frodo is thinking as he tells his dearest companions, his home, and his life goodbye for the last time. I like it, though I think revisions will still be made. R&R, tell me what you think. Good or bad.
