Warriors and Assassins
Link opened one eye warily and watched the dark figure creep closer to him. It moved with unnerving grace and ease. 'Assassin.' Link thought to himself. Recently several attempts had been made on his life and he had already destroyed several other assassins. He really felt no guilt in eliminating them; they were mercenaries of death and deserved to rot in the deepest levels of hell.
Just as the assassin brought his blade crashing down Link rolled off his bed and kicked at the assassins legs, successfully knocking him down. In a flash Link flipped him over and pinned his hands behind his back. "Be still!" Link hissed and cuffed his opponent lightly in the head causing him to momentarily cease his struggling. "Exactly what were you doing in my house?" Link smirked slightly; it was always nice to hear someone admit their actions before disposing of them. Upon receiving no answer Link cursed at his prisoner and punched him in the back with his free hand. A small cry escaped the assassin's lips.
"Alright, calm yourself warrior I'll tell you what I was doing even though you probably already know. I was sent to kill you and take your sword. Happy?" Link scowled. This assassin did not seem worried.
"Who sent you?" Link had asked this question to every other assassin sent to destroy and had yet to receive an answer from anyone. ' Must be some stupid assassin code, don't reveal the employer.' Link thought bitterly and gave a growl of frustration, as he, as usual, did not get his question answered. Link rapped the assassin on the head forcefully knocking him into unconsciousness.
Link went and shuffled around his small Kokiri home until he found some rope and bound the assassin's wrists and ankles also removing any weapons that the would-be murderer carried. "Never leave anything to chance with the likes of them." Link mumbled. Normally he would have killed the assassin and be done with it but Zelda had asked that he bring the next assassin that tried to kill him to her. Alive. Link grinned as he remembered the way she had emphasized the word. She knew him well. Link dragged the assassin to a corner and dumped him there until morning. He then decided to have a quick walk to calm his slightly unstable nerves.
Outside
Link took a deep breath and smelled the forest around him with all of its vegetation. Link's thoughts drifted to the assassin and whoever sent him. ' I wonder who it could be? Who the hell hates me enough to try and kill me? And who would go to all the effort after failing so many times?' One thing Link was certain of however was that whoever it was definitely had something against him.
He slowly climbed the ladder back into his house and barely managed to kick his boots off before he collapsed into bed. A voice laden with hate caused Link to scowl.
"Why am I still alive?" Link sat up so he could see the dark form of the assassin.
" 'Cause I didn't feel like killing you." Link lied. It would be best not to let him know that he had to be kept alive until at least tomorrow night. The assassin snorted.
"Yes, I believe that." Link grabbed a book that was on his nightstand and hurled it at the assassin and was rewarded with a distinct clunking noise and loud curses.
"Now get some sleep because we are getting up early tomorrow." With that Link lay back down and let slumber claim him for the night.
A/N: So? Whatcha think? Good, bad, overly dramatic? Reviews are appreciated. So are ideas and requests for the next chapter.
