That's Our Boy
Our boy. Our beautiful baby boy. Even though we're gone, we still watched you grow up.
We saw you as a toddler, getting picked on by Dudley and his friends. We saw Vernon and Petunia belittle you into insecurities. We wanted nothing more than to take you in our arms and hold you until you cried no more. We wanted to be there and tell you everything would be alright and that we love you.
Then you became a child, naive and cautious around your 'family'. You were in elementary school with no friends and being made fun of. You were picked on by adults and children. People can be so cruel. This pained us to watch. If only you had known the things you could accomplish, would accomplish.
When you got your Hogwarts letter, nothing made us happier, at that point in your life. We knew you would get it but that didn't mean we couldn't be happy. You were rejected by muggles and worshiped by wizarding folk. When you became a Gryffindor, we said "That's our boy".
Your first year went by and you made two wonderful friends. You overcame obstacles, learned more about magic, and learned that there is good in this world. Not everyone was like the Dursleys. You survived Voldemort again, along with ridicule from your enemies. You learned to play Quidditch and were better than we thought. So to be captain, we thought.
Into your second year, your friendship became stronger, your enemies became fouler, and you found out what it was like to have admirers. Holding up the Potter charm, huh? You amazed us yet again ass you saved a girl's life and defeated the heir of Slytherin.
You found a couple of old friends when you entered your third year. They were ours too. You helped uncover the truth of our death. You helped see who was the true traitor. You helped save our best friends life. It was a difficult and emotional task for you but you helped him escape and helped people see he was innocent. Thank you.
Onto your fourth year. You saw Voldemort came back. We saw you. You saw us. It frightened us to know that you may be killed. We couldn't let that happen to you. You were too young. You had too much to do. We just had to help you live. You did. You escaped and lived.
Fifth year was hard on you. You saw your godfather die after just helping him come back. We cried with you and felt sad when you did. We love you too much to see this happen to you, again. You found the truth on why you're so special also. You found the burden of what you had to do. We're so sorry. You should've never had to do this.
Sixth year you found a little happiness. You found a girlfriend. We were so happy for you. We wanted to meet her and get to know her but that couldn't happen. You met Voldemort again and escaped again, but your girlfriend wasn't so lucky. We are very sorry. This just keeps happening to you. We love you so much and it kills us to see you like this.
Your last and final year at Hogwarts was special. You defeated Voldemort when he finally died. Too many people you cared about died at his hands. We were so proud of you. We wanted to be with you when you recovered form the attack, when you celebrated, and when you cried at what you had lost. You managed what no one else could and for that we were proud more than ever.
We love you son. We're your parents and nothing can ever change that love. We were- and always- watching over you. No matter what we will always be proud of you. We can always say, "That's our boy".
