Ann........ Ann I love you, what do you think of the revenge for your
death, I'm lying here coughing up blood waiting to die, I'm not the hero
like I was meant to be, hero's don't loose...... Don't break promises.
You've been everything to me in this war which I thought, at my weakest moments when I thought about giving up, stopping the fight and returning home to become a farmer, your speech which you made that day, that beautiful day in the church you spoke the dream of liberty of freedom, you were freedom itself to me that day, you somehow took away the pain and suffering which I saw every time I opened my eyes, every time I stand in line holding my rifle watching men standing thirty feet in front of me aiming there's at me and watching those who stand next to me fall to their knees as the bullets hit.
You took those images away from me and replaced them with light, beauty love.
I knew I loved you that time we met after the meeting, knew one day you would be mine, that all I would have to do would be to try and hunt to succeed in the pursuit of your love.
I feel the life fading from me once again, is this how Thomas felt?
I hope he felt no pain he should not have died for me, he was the hero risking his life for a moment, he was stupid and he was foolish and he was the best man who I've ever known and I hope that I have honoured his memory in everything I have done.
"Father?"
Benjamin Martian stared down at his son; it was his moment, his death. What was he meant to do? Nothing could change this,
"Shss let me take care of you, you'll be fine."
"No father I'm dying"
"Don't say things like that, let me take care of you, you're going to be fine."
But in his heart he knew, had watched one son die and knew what was to happen now. he stroked Gabriel's' face with his hand and watched as the life left his son, Gabriel's eyes closed for a second before bursting open again,
"I can see her father, she was waiting for me, all in white, she's a star father she's my north."
Before closing his eyes and lying dead in his father's arms.
Benjamin held his son close and let his tears fall as his men stood round him not knowing what to say or do only watching the sorrowful scene and mourning.
