Notes: I have to admit, I;m a Zabuza/Haku fan. At the same time, I always wondered how a guy like Zabuza put up with such a cute, innocent little kid like Haku. Thinking of that, I wondered about certain things...and this just popped up. I'm sorry.

Zabuza had expected some things when he decided to take the little boy off of the streets.

He had expected, of course, that he had to feed and clothe the child, that was obvious. No matter how innately good a child was at jutsu, there was no way that they could bring much money into the house, and he would have to compensate for that.

He had also thought of the possibilty that the kid might become attached to him. Solving this problem had seemed so much easier in his head, just telling the kid to bug off, but it was hard to resist someone who, as Haku had put it when they first met, had eyes like his. It also didn't help that Haku's eyes were large and obviously full of innocence, and it was even harder each time that Haku wanted something. Besides, the kid was always so damn cute about everything. Like that goddamn rabbit. He had planned to just leave the rabbit behind in Water Country, but Haku had begged and begged, and for some reason, Zabuza had given in. They had even gotten a cage for the little beast. Zabuza still hadn't figured out why he had let Haku keep the stupid thing, or for that matter, why he had let Haku get away with so many things in general.

However, that was not Zabuza's problem right now. His current problem was much bigger, something he had never expected coming. For the first time, Haku had caught him completely off guard.

He looked again at the boy, who was patiently waiting for his answer. "Haku," he began, "are you sure nobody explained this to you?"

Haku scrunched up his face in the way many children did when they were thinking deeply. After a while, he turned back to Zabuza, and shook his head. "Someone may have, Zabuza-san, but I think I forgot." He smiled. "Besides, I know you are very smart, so you could explain real good to me."

If Haku hadn't been there, Zabuza would have cursed. This was very, very bad. However, he supposed this was another thing that would have come up sooner or later...he supposed he had just hoped for later...much later. He took a deep breath

"Well, Haku, when a man and a woman love eachother very much..."
