Disclaimer: I don't own Yu-Gi-Oh!, I think that's pretty obvious..
A/N: This is just an excercise that I'm doing, I don't know why I decided to post it. This chapter is pretty boring, but it should get more exciting. At least I hope it should. =P I'm trying to develop characters through dialogue.. and don't ask me why I picked a trial. I know nothing about trials. Anyways, here's the fic..
Supreme Court Justice William Smith calls Mr. Seto Kaiba, president of the Kaiba corporation, to the stand.
Seto nods in Justice Smith's direction and begins to walk. He is a tall man, quite handsome, looking to be about 17 or 18 years old. The blue-eyed duelist has on a black suit, and is wearing a look on his face that says he has somewhere better to be, and to please let this be short. He steps slowly and confidently onto the first of the three metal steps. It rocks back and forth slightly under his weight, echoing eerily throughout the large, windowless room.
Mr. Kaiba, do you swear to tell the truth, the whole truth, and nothing but the truth, so help you God?
Are you saying that you doubt me, Mr. Smith? Seto asks, resting his left elbow on the small wooden stand. His large shadow falls backwards across the floor to the stiff mahogany chairs where the eleven jury members are sitting
Mr. Kaiba, I believe that I will be the one to do the interrogation. Mr. Smith says, unfazed by Seto's cool demeanor.
Very well. Seto agrees, placing his hand upon the Bible. He smirks slightly.
Where were you, Mr. Kaiba, at 4:30 PM on July 12th?
I was at the Domino City Pool with my brother Mokuba. Seto replies easily. The jury begins to pay attention. Some of them jot down notes.
What were you doing there?
Surely you know that all minors at the Domino City Pool must be accompanied by an adult? he says with obvious hauteur in his voice, then pauses, but Justice Smith makes no comment. Mokuba wished to go swimming, so I escorted him to the pool.
Were you swimming as well?
No. I was sitting on one of the benches-
Which bench? Justice Smith asks, walking a little closer to Seto and squinting at him intently.
The one to the left of the hot dog stand. Seto replies, looking down condescendingly at Justice Smith.
What were you doing there? Just sitting?
I was improving my dueling tactics.
Justice Smith looks up. Dueling, Mr. Kaiba?
It's a card game. Seto says, insulted. If you had researched my company enough, you would know what it was. As it is, you are inadequately prepared for this trial.
Mr. Kaiba. I am not here to discuss this card game of yours. I am here to confirm that you witnessed the murder of Ms. Mai Valentine.
No, that is not the truth,Seto says, pausing to see what the Jury's reaction will be. I did not witness her death. I only heard the sound of her voice as she screamed.
And you did not look up?
No. As I told you, I was busy.
Did you notice anyone else at the pool?
Yes. Yugi Motou and his friends were also there.
Can you name them?
Joey Wheeler, Tristan Taylor, and Tea Gardner. They were with Ms. Valentine.
Thank you, Mr. Kaiba. That will be all. Justice Smith turns back to face the audience. Mr. Joey Wheeler, please come to the stand.
