"Paige, honey, we have something to talk about with you," said Mrs. Michealchuck from the doorway of Paige's room.

"Uh, yeah, I'll be there in a second," replied Paige, absorbed in her CosmoGirl magazine. When she was finished her article she got off of her bed and went downstairs to the living room.

Her dad was reading the paper, and her mom was arranging and re-arranging her ornaments on the fireplace mantle. "You said you wanted something or other?" asked Paige, unconcerned. Her parents looked at each other, then her mom sat next to her dad and motioned for Paige to sit in the chair across from them. When she was seated her mom began.

"We just wanted to let you know," her mom hesitated, "We're going to have a new addition to our family." Paige, filing her nails while she listened to her mom, stopped all movement, and looked up at her mom.

"Oh. My. God. You're having a baby?" Paige squealed with excitement, and without letting her parents say anything, she continued, "If it's a girl I can give her manicures, do her hair, teach her how to dress like me, put makeup on her, and teach her how to.." Her dad held up his hand, stopping Paige from saying anything else.

"No," he said, "We're not having a baby, we're going to have someone move in with us." "Oh," said Paige, her face falling, "Who is going to move in with us?" Mrs. Michealchuck beamed brightly, "Your cousin Madison!" Paige just stared at her mom, completely clueless, so she continued,

"She's your aunt Margie's girl, and she's coming to live with us while her parents go on a trip to Russia." Paige just shrugged and continued filing her nails. This wasn't huge news, she'd had relatives come and stay over for before. With a lack of response from Paige, Mrs. Michealchuck went on,

"Madison is 13, she's very bright, but very disciplined, you could learn a thing or two from her!" Paige rolled her eyes and decided to ignore that comment. "How long is she staying with us again?" she asked, still carefully examining her nails. "Well," her dad began, "She'll stay with us probably for a year or so."

Whoa, thought Paige, that's like, forever!"
