Buffy and Giles trudged through the main hallway of Sunnydale High School, covered in a light film of dust from head to toe. Crossbows on arm and stakes in hand, they both pushed open the double swinging doors and walked into the Library.
Buffy coughed and exhaled a large cloud of dust then dropped all of her armorments on the table in the middle of the room. She then hoisted herself up onto the checkout counter and said with an exhausted sigh,
"Ten vamps in one night... TEN! What is the Hellmouth coming to?!" She was cut off from anymore whining as Jenny leapt up from the chair at the table.
"Rupert!" She quickly hurried across the floor to him, lacing her fingers with his, she let a smile flash across her face. "So you're okay? We were all worried when everyone got separated. We looked all over, so when we couldn't find you we decided to come back and wait for you. Took long enough," She poked him in the chest.
"Well, I – we... but," he stuttered over his words as he tried to think of a good enough excuse. "You see – " he never got a chance to finish what he meant for her to see.
Jenny, moving her hands up to the collar of his shirt, wrapped her fingers around the material and pulled him down to her. His head bent down willingly as she locked her lips with his in a kiss deep enough to fully embarrass Buffy.
She opened her mouth to protest, then simply averted her eyes to the far wall. Xander, Cordelia, and Willow all followed suit, hiding nervous chuckles and snickers behind their hands.
A few seconds later, Jenny broke off the kiss, leaving an extremely flustered Giles standing rooted to the spot. "I'm going home. Walk me outside?" She moved to her previously occupied chair and picked up her purse, then headed for the doors. As she walked past him, she flashed the smile she had thrown his way only one time before. The devilish grin she had astounded him with after claiming it wasn't from her ear that she dangled the corkscrew he had found.
He remembered their conversation perfectly, as well as that smile. The one good thing that came out of the battle with Moloch had been meeting her. He grinned as the doors swung shut and rambled off the first thing that came to mind, a poem from an old book:
"Jenny kissed me when we met, Jumping from the chair she sat in. Time, you thief, who love to get Sweets into your list, put that in! Say I'm weary, say I'm sad, Say that health and wealth have missed me, Say I'm growing old, but add, Jenny kissed me."
His grin widened and he followed after her through the doors. Buffy simply shook her head and muttered, "Man, does he got it bad. He's reciting poetry about her."
The others laughed and they all made their way out of the Library to go home as well.
