Annoyance

Max pouted into her beer, beer bought by Alec.  She almost didn't want to drink it just because he'd purchased it.  But, she never did give up free beer.  Original Cindy was eyeing several girls that had entered the back room; she'd apparently given up on their conversation about the merits of Alec getting that job at Jam Pony.  She just didn't understand how obnoxious he truly was.  Always popping up and putting his nose where it didn't belong, messing everything up.  It was what he did.  Of course, Cindy didn't see that side of Alec.  In fact, the only thing she saw was the charming transgenic.  Max could see charming Alec.  But mostly, she saw annoying Alec.  She wasn't quite sure what it was that annoyed her about him.  He was overly confident, sure.  He was trained to be that way.  He had an opinion about everything, unfortunately, and he was never too shy to share it with her.  Still, those were the obvious things that bothered her.  Really, she thought it was much deeper than that.  And as much as she hated to admit it, most of it he had no control over.  He was Ben.  All she saw when she looked at him was Ben's head, lying in her lap, lifeless.  Lifeless because of her.  What could she do?  He was around all the time, and every time Alec was there, Ben was.  Plus, Alec was Manticore.  Everything she and her brothers and sisters despised.  It was everything he despised.  He was her breeding partner, a clone, a soldier.  She didn't want to be reminded of that life.  She didn't want to be reminded of the feelings he brought up inside of her.  Girly feelings.  Confusing feelings.  His smirk was slowly worming its way into her heart.  His bluntness was something she'd never gotten from anyone else before.  He wasn't afraid to hurt her, but he wasn't mean about it.  He only fought her when she fought first.  Yes, that was exactly what the problem was.  She was starting to like Alec more than she wanted to.  And for that she hated him.
