AN: Oh look, another short Axl fic from me! No, I'm not obsessed with him. Honestly. If I was these would be longer and in far more detail. This is just... I don't know. Something that randomly popped into my head, so here I is writing and posting it.

I suppose if you want you can say it's a continuation of 'Just A Child' but there's no mention of that in this. Oh, and there's yaoi ahead.

It wasn't supposed to be this way, but nothing ever happened the way it was supposed to. The goal was reached in the end, but there really were no fairytale endings. There were no white knights sweeping beautiful maidens off their feet. There were only people, horribly clumsy people who held hopes, dreams, and emotions in their hands. And, occasionally, these people managed not to crush them.

Sweat covered his body from their previous activity and he knew that, like any human, he had to smell, but that didn't matter at this moment. He wasn't supposed to be in bed with him of all people, but nothing ever happened the way it was supposed to. Life always had an expected twist in it, something that always kept you on your guard. If you weren't paying attention you would never catch all the details but maybe you weren't supposed to. Maybe life was supposed to be this way, and maybe it was supposed to be spontaneous, and maybe it was never meant to be planned out.

"Hmm… Axl?"

"Yeah?"

"No one's going to believe this. And even if they did… they're going to hate us for this."

"Hmm… probably."

"Do you regret it?"

He smiled and laughed. "No. If I regretted it I wouldn't have stayed afterwards. I'm glad it happened. I… expected it to happen with someone else but… I'm glad it happened this way."

Strong arms wrapped around the waist of the red-head, and a face was pressed against his chest, chocolate-brown strands of hair falling down onto the bare skin. Smiling, Axl stroked the other man's hair, amazed at how simply childlike he could be, how innocent he was, how fragile and delicate this fighter could be.

"I think I may be falling in love with you X."

Story books told lies – those endings simply weren't possible. Snow White wouldn't fall in love with the Prince and ride off with him, happily ever after. She would marry the hunter who had been sent to kill her. Cinderella would meet a man at the ball and they would go off together. Life was completely unexpected and confusing and nothing ever happened the way it was supposed to.

But, then again, maybe this was how it was always meant to be. Maybe this was their storybook ending. Maybe this was the way that life was supposed to happen.
