"...And here are the papers for you to fill out, while your
waiting."
The nurse handed her a small stack of papers, and she turned and
walked to a seat in the emergency room's waiting area. Quickly she
scanned the papers, and then settled down to fill them out.
About an hour later, another nurse came over and hesitantly taped her
on the shoulder.
"Miss? Would you like to come in and see Daniel now?"
"Oh, yes! Thank you. And how is he feeling?"
"Well, he's going to be alright...but he may have some internal
injuries, we won't know that until the morning."
Tess glanced at the clock that was hanging on the pale pink wall.
2:14a.m. "Oh. Well, I suppose we'll just have to wait and hope then,
won't we." She said it almost to herself, with feigned positivity.
Inside, her stomach twisted into a knot at just the thought of her
beloved Danny being hurt in any way, especially a way that she
couldn't make go away, or that even the doctors couldn't help.
"His room is the second on the right."
"Ok. Thank you."
She hurriedly gathered the papers, and quickly walked to the room.
Suddenly, she was afraid. She didn't know what to expect, and she was
afraid that if Danny looked in to bad a shape, she would burst into
tears right there. Which would worry him, and all he needed to think
was that he was going to get better quickly, so that he would do just
that. Tess took a deep breath, and pushed open the door.
