Chapter One - Grow Up

It was a warm day, the sun glistened through the Hogwarts Castle windows. Students all around the castle were chatting animatedly in the presence of the beautiful weather.

Lily Evan, a sixth year, was, however, sat at a table in the school library trying to study in peace. Her head was buried within the pages of a book as she tried to grasp the concept of apparition.

Her long, red hair draped over her face shielding the world from her discomforting frowns and alarmingly green, almond shaped eyes.

"Pst" someone whispered behind her. She ignored them and turned another page in the book. "Pst, Lily!" The voice tried again, hopefully.

Lily growled at being disturbed and swung, violently, around in her chair. She looked ahead to see who was calling her. In the shadow of a tall bookshelf stood James Potter. Tall with black hair and glasses, James Potter.

"What do you want?" Lily hissed angrily.

"You, Lily," James said hopefully.

"Get lost, Potter," oh how Lily hated that attention-seeking boy.

"With you, Lily? I'd get lost with you anyday."

"Shut it, Potter."

"Come on Miss Evans. Give me a chance," James pleaded.

"Go away! I'm studying," growled Lily. How she despised the way everyone loved him just because he flew around on a broom and scored goals and won house points. To Lily he'd always be the bad guy who got Gryffindor into trouble. Who lost them house points and who never seemed to care. He'd always be the one who caused Lily to become annoyed and angry. He'd always be the useless James Potter. Always.

"I'll help you, Evans," James didn't want to take her hints to leave. His persistence never seemed to get him anywhere but, nethertheless, he always tried.

He smiled at her and walked towards Lily. She got up. "No need for a standing ovation, Evans," he joked.

"Leave me alone, Potter! I don't need your stupid help!"

Just then Madam Pince, the school librarian, appeared beside them looking frustrated.

"Now really. Miss Evans, I expected better of you," she looked at James. "Erm-" she turned back to Lily. "Please go outside and enjoy the weather dear. Come back when you want to be quiet. This is a library, you know?" She said tiredly. "Now please leave and take him-" she pointed at James "with you."

"But, Madam Pince, I-"

"Now, now dear. Hurry along. The weather is lovely outside." Lily grabbed her things frustratedly as Madam Pince ushered them out of the library.

James followed behind Lily like a shadow.

"Thanks a lot, Potter," Lily said angrily.

"Your welcome, Lily."

"You're not funny. Anyway, don't you have anything better to do? Where's the rest of your "gang"? Do they not need you anymore?"

"They're outside. Anyway, I wanted to see you, Lily."

"Yeah? Well I didn't want to see you! I've got a lot of work to do, Potter. Can't you just leave me alone?"

"Can't we just be friends?" Lily looked at him for a sign of his lying. James looked at her eagerly. "And then," he said slowly. "Maybe I could take you out some time..." Lily frowned.

"You're no good, Potter," she shook her head.

"Come on, Lily. I'll do anything. Just go out with me," he pleaded with her.

"Just grow up, Potter. Grow up." And with that, Lily turned and walked away.
