Disclaimer:
I still own nothing pertaining to Dark Angel, but, I like to borrow Max and
Logan occasionally for a little while. The song lyrics belong to Peter
Gabriel. If you would like to archive this story, please ask first. Please
read and review.
"Love, I don't like to see so much pain
So much wasted and this moment keeps slipping away
I get so tired of working so hard for our survival
I look to the time with you to keep me awake and alive."
Peter Gabriel
A "Borrowed Time" ficlet.
"We can't keep doing this", Logan stated, sadly
"I know", Max stated just as sad.
"If I could go back, I'd do things so differently, all that time we wasted," Logan sighs.
"I would do things differently too, but, we can't go back," Max sighs.
"I know," said Logan sadly.
"We can only work on our relationship now, not dwell on the lost time, at least we're trying to be more truthful with each other now... Speaking of which what were you so pressed to tell me before Joshua interrupted us? I know you were trying to tell me something, I could tell by the look in your eyes and by the fact that you weren't sure what to say," Max
smiles.
Logan looks at her like he has no clue what she's talking about, "Whatever, do you mean, Max?"
"Oh, my goodness, the great Logan Cale is at a loss for words, come on, whatever it is, just spill it."
"How much time do we have left, Max?"
"A minute and a half, now, I asked you a question and there you go trying to change the subject," Max sighs growing more impaitent by the second.
"I don't exactly know how to tell you this, Max..."
"Logan, I don't care what it is, you want to be with Asha or you've found out more about my messed up DNA, just tell me, we're running on borrowed time in case you've forgotten."
"I love you, Max, okay? And I don't care about your DNA or where you came from. I know that Asha wants to be more than friends, but, the fact is that I love you, there's no need for you to be jealous, I saw the look in your eyes when you first saw her. I couldn't tell you that I was in love with you, but, that now I was in a relationship with someone else."
"I love you, too, but, why do you love me? You could have any woman you wanted and have a normal life with a home and children," Max, sighed
"With my job and the enemies I've made trying to save this broken world, Max, I don't think I'll ever have a normal life and I love you because you're smart, kind, compassionate and willing to do anything to help those you love. When I see you, I see a beautiful woman with a big heart, not the soldier Manticore wanted you to be."
"We were honest finally, now what do we do, Logan?"
"We have to not give up on us so easily, everyone deserves something to have some happiness in this broken world, right?"
"I guess you're right Logan, but, this isn't going to be easy, Max looks up unsure.
"Nothing is ever simple, Max, but, I think we deal with this virus better together than apart and Manticore wants us to be apart, we can't let that happen because, otherwise Manticore wins the battle and we can't have that now, can we?"
"You're right, Logan, we can't let Manticore and some dumb virus break us apart, because, I will never let them win."
The End.
