I want to say I don't own Star Wars or any of it's characters. One day Uncle George may see sense and give it all to me, but for now it's all his.

Please R&R. I will take flames as constructive criticism.

As Ben lifted up his sabre, Vader lunged forward, Ben offering no resistance.  It cut through him like a hot knife through butter. "No!"  The stormtroopers who had been so engrossed in the fight turned and started firing.  Luke just stood there immobilised with shock.  All he could see was Vader prodding the empty robes with his foot, checking for any remains.  He could only vaguely hear Han and the Princess yelling at him to blast them, and then he heard Ben.  "Run, Luke!  Run!"

But he couldn't.  There were blaster shots all around him now, but Luke could do nothing but stare.  The Dark Lord was coming towards him now.  And all of a sudden there was a burning pain as his left leg collapsed beneath him.  He heard Leia shout his name, and then the Falcon taking off.  Luke looked down at his leg, and saw a small hole in his thigh.  It was strange how such a little thing could cause so much pain.

There were red daggers in his vision now and through the mire he heard laboured breathing.  He looked up and saw Kenobi's killer.  And then darkness took him.

As Vader looked down on the captured Rebel, it stirred memories of things long forgotten.  Looking into the boys face was like looking into a mirror some 22 years ago.  He glanced at the stormtroopers.  "Put him into a cell and do something about his leg.  I want to talk with him when he comes round.  The stormtroopers picked up the prone form and took it away to the detention area.  Vader turned and went to the control room to meet Tarkin.

As the Millennium Falcon sped away from the Death Star, there were some concerns over which way they should be heading.

"We should go back!"

"Look your Highnessness.  I appreciate your sentiment but we can't.  if we went back, we'll all die.  We gave the kid a chance, but he didn't come.  I ain't risking my neck, again, going back for him."

"Why you cold, heartless-"

"Hey less of it.  I care about the kid aswell.  I stayed as long as I could, but I did what he would have wanted me to, and got you out."

"But we can't just leave him…"

"I don't want to anymore than you do, but the-"

*We're coming up to their patrol ships.* Chewie growled softly.

"Thanks Chewie.  Hey you're Highnessness, do ya know how to handle a quad?"

"Stop calling me that!"

"If ya do, take the dorsal one.  We have TIE's incoming.  Chewie, angle the deflectors and get the navi comp working on our exit route."  With that Han left the cockpit and made his way to the gun turrets.  Flinging himself into the ventral turret, he turned on the targeting computer and charged up the batteries.

"Are they away?" asked Tarkin, barely acknowledging Vader's presence.

"They have just made the jump into hyperspace."  Vader rumbled.

"You're sure the homing beacon is secure aboard their ship?  I'm taking an awful risk, Vader.  This had better work."

"It will work.  Of that I am sure."

A young officer approached, "My lord, the prisoner has regained consciousness."

"Good, see to it he remains that way.  I will be along shortly to question him."

"Yes, my lord."  And with that the Dark Lord turned and left.

Luke was cold.  What ever he was lying on was cold and hard too.  He cautiously opened one eye and saw a blank wall staring back at him.  Pain!  His leg hurt.  He looked down and saw that part of his left thigh was covered in a bacta patch.  The previous events came rushing back to him.  The Princess!  Was she alright?  Ben!  Ben was dead.  Struck down by Vader.  The merest thought of that name made him angry.  First Vader had taken his Father and now Ben!  Luke felt the need to hit something.  Hard.

And then the door to his cell, that's where he was he thought an Imperial detention cell like the one Leia had been in, shushed open.  There was the telltale shush-whoosh off an artificial respirator.  Vader.  Blearily Luke propped himself up and looked at the murderer, with hate rushing through his veins.  He could end it all no.  He could kill Vader; all he had to do was…

Vader found himself again disturbed by images of the past.  The boy's eyes were exactly the same shade of ice blue.  "What is your name." demanded Vader, unable to keep his curiosity at bay any longer.  The boy remained silent, his eyes centred on Vader, his rage hot enough to fuel a supernova.  "Why do you not speak?  Are you stupid in some way?"

"Maybe I don't feel all that chatty."  Ah so it had teeth.

"Maybe I could loosen that insolent tongue of yours?  Now what is your name?  It's a simple enough question."

"Skywalker, my name is Luke Skywalker."

Skywalker…

Could it be possible?  The boy was strong in the Force.  He shone like a beacon.  And he had been with Obi-Wan.  Could Padmé of been pregnant when he had left her?  Surely he would have known?  But she could only have been a couple of weeks gone.  Anyone this strong in the Force he should have been able to sense, in the womb or not.  Could it be possible he had a son?

"Hear something you didn't like?" snapped Luke, his son.  Vader realised he had been so engrossed in his own thoughts he had forgotten about the matter in hand.  He had a prisoner to question.  "Thinking about the last time you hear that name?" snapped Luke.

In a blink of an eye Luke had raised himself of his bunk and had launched himself at Vader.  He was barely able to react in time.  Vader caught Luke and pushed him back onto the bunk.  Luke tried again but this time Vader was ready for him.  He caught Luke and pinned him.  Luke began to try and break the grip but Vader held him firm.  "You animal," Luke spat, "you killed my father."

Vader was so shocked he almost released the boy.  "Who was your father boy?  I might remember him."

"Anakin Skywalker."  This time Vader did let go.  Luke collapsed to the floor and crawled back to the bunk.  His bacta patch had come loose and exposed the small neat hole the blaster bolt had made in his sons leg.  So it was true.  Vader did have a son.  And he was a Rebel.  The irony of the situation was not lost on Vader.  Turning back to Luke he said, "I was not the one who killed your father boy.  If it was anyone it was your beloved Obi-Wan who struck the blow.  So don't try to exact your vengeance on me for a crime I didn't commit."

"Ben.  No it wasn't Ben, it couldn't have been.  He told me you did."

"People don't always tell the truth boy."  And at that the Dark Lord turned and left.  When he found the stormtrooper who had been standing guard he said, "Give the prisoners leg some proper medical attention."  He then went to meditate on the situation.

*****

No, it couldn't be true.  Ben wouldn't lie to him.  Would he?  The door shushed open again.  Luke looked up.  Stormies.  Probably here to kill him, like Ben, no, Vader killed his father.  "Get up." one of the stormtroopers barked from under his helmet.  Slowly, putting all his weight on his good leg, he got up.  "Now move."  Luke tried to comply, but almost collapsed again.  It was becoming obvious that he couldn't use the left one.  One of the stormies went to support him, and Luke accepted gratefully.  The slowly, laboriously, they got him to the med centre.  As they went in a medic cast his cool calculating gaze over Luke and rested it on his leg.  "Get him up on the table so I can examine the wound."  The troopers helped Luke up and he gazes suspiciously at the doctor.  Was this some trick concocted by Vader to gain his trust?  "Blaster wound."

"I could have told you that."

"I'm a trained medical professional.  You are a prisoner on board this station.  I advise you keep quiet."  Luke decided it would be wise to keep quiet.  "Now Lord Vader has commanded that you be attended to, although why I can't fathom.  Now hold still."  The medic applied some salve to the burn and put a bacta patch over it.  "It should heal better now, but it will take a few days.  Don't do anything strenuous or put unnecessary weight on it."

"Thank you."

"Don't thank me boy.  I'm just following orders.  No matter how strange they may be."  And with that he motioned for the troopers to get Luke again.  As they took him back to his cell, Luke wondered why Vader had ordered his medical treatment.  Why couldn't he just kill him get on with it?

*****

When they arrived at his cell, the troopers shoved Luke in.  After they closed the door, Luke managed to get himself up on the bunk and shut his eyes.  "Ben.  Do you know?  Did you kill my father?  Why?  I wish you were here."

"I'm always here, you just don't notice me."  Luke's

Eyes flew open.  There just in front of him, stood the shimmering, blue form of Ben Kenobi.

"What are you doing here?  Wait.  You're dead.  I saw Vader kill you."

"I am dead, in the sense that I'm not alive, but I am here."

"How?"

"When we die, our spirits become one with the Force, but our identities and personalities linger for a few years, and we are able to appear in a manner such as this."

"Oh.  Why is Vader doing this?"

"Doing what?"

"Not killing me.  Getting me stuff to heal my leg."

"I have my suspicions, but none I would care to voice."

"Is… is what he said true?  Did you kill my father?"

"Luke, I knew your father as Anakin Skywalker.  I first met him when he was nine years old.  We were stranded on Tatooine, your father won us the parts we needed to fix our ship, and in return my master Qui-Gon Jinn freed him."

"Freed him?"

"Yes, Luke.  Your father was a slave owned by a Toydarian named Watto.  We took him back to Coruscant and he was tested by the Jedi Council.  They refused to train him at first, said his future was clouded.  He came with us to Naboo; we had been accompanying the Queen.  Her planet had been invaded by the Trade Federation and we had helped her escape, that was why we were on Tatooine.  Anyway after she had pleaded her case to the Senate, she decided to return.  When she got there she made peace with the Gungans-"

"The Gungans?"

"They were an amphibian race that shared the planet with the Naboo.  There had been an enmity between the two races for centuries.  Amidala ended all that.  Anyway, they made a plan to retake the planet.  The Gungans would occupy the droid army whilst the Queen would capture the Viceroy.  To help the Gungans the Queen would send pilots to knock out the droid controlship.  We would accompany the Queen, we being Qui-Gon, your father and me.  When we got to the palace where the Viceroy was staying, there was a Sith.  My Master and I had to fight him, Qui-Gon told Anakin to hide, and he chose the cockpit of fighter for some reason.  Anyhow, Anakin somehow managed to get airborne and destroy the droid controlship."

"What happened to the Sith?"

"I killed him, but not before he killed Qui-Gon."

"I'm sorry.  I didn't know."

"It's okay Luke.  It happened," he paused for a brief mental calculation, "32 years ago.  My time has flown."

"What happened after that?"

"I was knighted and I took on Anakin as my padawan."

"Padawan?"

"It's the formal term for a Jedi apprentice."

"Oh."

Just then the door opened and in walked Vader.  "Kenobi…" he spat.

"Darth."  Ben replied curtly.

"Does nobody stay dead round here?  Is this a social call?  Or did you just come to fill the boy's head with more lies."

"Lies?  What do you mean?"  Luke said confused.

"Luke, I couldn't kill you father, because I am your father."

"No.  No.  That's not true.  That's impossible.  Ben, it's not true is it?"

"Luke… I'm sorry.   I wanted you to find it out later, not now."

"Why Ben?  Why did you lie?"

"Yes, I'm sure we all want to know why the omniscient Obi-Wan Kenobi lied.  Luke, it was him that put me in this armour.  It's because of him you grew up not knowing me or your mother.  He is the one that has lied to you, not me."

"Luke don't listen to him.  He's just a cruel shadow of Anakin Skywalker, your real father.  Don't listen.  Please."

Luke just sat there with to much information to absorb.  I have a father.  Ben lied to me, I have a father.  Ben lied.  Hate blossomed in him.  Ben lied.  He glared at Ben.  "Go away.  Never appear to me again."

"Luke-"

"Leave.  Me.  Alone."

"You heard my son."  Luke's heart leapt at the word son.  "Leave him now."  With his eyes full of sorrow, the ghost of Ben Kenobi faded away.
