Author's Notes: This fic was written a while ago for Sen-chan (or Lady Kasen, whichever), and it's my shortest fic ever. I kinda like it though... Oh well. R&R.

Disclaimer: I will not own Teen Titans or any of its characters for about half an hour, when I go to bed. And then it'll only be because I'm dreaming. ;_; Please do not sue.

Meant To Be By Margarita Neko

It wasn't fate. It wasn't destiny. It wasn't written in the stars.

Hell, I'll admit it: It wasn't meant to be at all.

When he was crying, scared to death from a nightmare—or rather, a memory, watching his parents die—it wasn't meant to be that he came to me for comfort.

When he fell asleep, tired from the sobs that had wracked his body so brutally, it wasn't meant to be that my arms and chest were his pillow.

When we woke up the next morning, it wasn't meant to be that we were curled up together, so comfortably, so warm.

When he came back to me, one random night about a week later, saying that he couldn't stop thinking about how safe he'd felt that night, that wasn't meant to be.

When I found myself agreeing, that wasn't meant to be.

When he told me he loved me, when he kissed me, when he held me close and refused to let me go, like I was the only thing keeping him alive, that wasn't meant to be.

And when I told him I loved him, too...

It wasn't meant to be.

But to hell with fate. To hell with destiny. To hell with the stars.

I've spent my entire life following the rules. I protect the rules, I keep order in this world... I'm a fucking *superhero*, for Christ sake.

But I'm still only human.

And humans are only chaos given an earthly, mortal form. So, when for the first time in my life breaking the rules felt good and right and wonderful, I broke them. Shattered them into a million shiny little pieces, just like those stars that any astrologer or fortune teller would say spelled me and Starfire, and Beast Boy and Raven, all over the heavens. And God, it felt amazing.

So tomorrow, when I kneel before him and give him that ring that I had picked out from the best jewelry store in town, it won't be meant to be.

If he says yes, it won't be meant to be.

But it's what we both want, what we both need...

Our love wasn't meant to be.

And that's why it will last forever.
