When It All Makes Sense

~*~*~*~*~*~

"Keiko."

The summoned looked up from her book. "Yes?"

"You and Yusuke are a couple, right?"

Keiko blinked and tilted her head ever so slightly. "Yes, of course we are. You know that Yukina," Keiko said, her honey colored eyes regarding the little koorime curiously.

Yukina nodded slowly as she folded her hands neatly into her lap and cast her crimson eyes upward toward the clear, azure afternoon sky. She sighed. "Yes, I know."

Keiko carefully folded and creased the top corner of the page she had been reading; she closed the book, setting it down beside her. "Come now, Yukina. You know very well that you can't say such things and not continue. What's on your mind, dear?"

Yukina's pale, slender fingers petted a chosen patch of green grass. She observed the way each blade bent easily under her touch and sprang back up right when she passed over it. 'So persistent,' she thought.

"Yukina," Keiko called. Her voice made the name sound like the missing word in some ancient song. It sounded as though the wind had whistled it.

The koorime finally gave her attention to the one seated next to her. She regarded her with confused, saddened eyes. "I was wondering, Keiko, how did you know that you were in love with him?"

Keiko seemed a little surprised by the question, but the moment passed, and she smiled softly at her friend. "I knew because that's when it all made sense."

Yukina shook her head. "I don't understand."

The latter girl laughed a little. "Of course not. You're not supposed to, it would be senseless."

"But you said that you knew you were in love when it all made sense," replied Yukina, her voice timid.

Keiko grinned. "Yes, I did."

"Then your other statement doesn't . . . make sense."

"It certainly does."

Yukina stared, obviously lost. "Uh . . ."

Keiko leaned back and cast her eyes upward. "I knew because all at once I hated Yusuke, but I didn't want to be without him. It's like when the rain ruins a perfectly lovely day, but you can't bring yourself to be sad about it, or when you trip and fall, and you don't want anyone to have noticed, but you still want someone to help you up. It's love Yukina. It's crazy, yet it makes just enough senseless sense to work." Keiko said, and she looked over to Yukina and smiled.

Yukina sighed softly, her saddened eyes now sparkling with happiness. "Keiko, may I tell you a secret?" She asked.

Keiko nodded, and Yukina leaned toward her to whisper, "I think I'm in love."

Keiko grinned. "You should tell him that, he'll be happy to know it."
